He’s my dad’s best friend. Twice my age. And the only man I’ve ever wanted.

This fall in the Colorado mountains, I’m going to make Wade Lawson mine … rules be damned.

Wade
She’s my best friend’s daughter.
Off-limits. Untouchable.
Except she’s standing in front of me now with her golden hair catching the autumn light, camera in hand, looking nothing like the little girl I remember.
I should keep my distance.
But when the mountain wind cuts sharp and she shivers, all I want is to pull her against me and never let go
Lilah
He’s twice my age. My dad’s best friend and fellow firefighter
The man who taught me how to bait a hook, how to build a campfire… and how a single glance can burn hotter than any flame.
I came home for a photography project. I didn’t expect to fall for the man who’s been the backdrop to my life.
The problem? He still thinks I’m off-limits.
But I’m not leaving these mountains without making Wade Lawson mine
A steamy age-gap, Daddy’s best friend romance set against the gold-and-crimson backdrop of a Colorado fall—full of longing, heat, and the kind of love worth risking everything for.

Lilah and Wade

WILD FOR THE MOUNTAIN MAN is part of the multi-authored Forbidden In Fall Mountain Man Romance series. It's a short and steamy, instalove, OTT, age-gap, forced-proximity, curvy virgin gets her mountain man romance. Lilah is a sweet and curvy photographer who has come home for an assignment. Wade is a 41-year-old hunky retired smoke-jumper turned wilderness guide. He is also her dad's best friend and the man she has crushed on since she was 16. When he helps to guide her for some of her needed wilderness photos, he realizes she is no longer a kid but all woman. She ends up staying with him during a snowstorm and things get hot and S-T-E-A-M-Y. What will her dad say? I loved this couple. They had great chemistry and the ending was so happy. Dave needs a story too! I loved him.

Making the Most of the Situation -
Lilah never thought she would get a chance to make her dreams and fantasies for her father’s best friend a reality, so when an opportunity presented itself, she jumped at the chance to test the waters to see if he was interested. Wade hadn’t really thought about Lilah as anything other than his best friend’s daughter, so he couldn’t understand why his recent interactions with her was setting his body on fire, especially after he witnessed a scene that wasn’t meant for him.

However, everything changed whilst Lilah and Wade were snowbound and the tension between them grew to a level where their willpower was destroyed and they gave in to their attraction. Lilah and Wade finally acknowledged their feelings for each other and considered all the factors involved in them being together, especially issue of telling her father. Fortunately, Lilah and Wade managed to convince her father of their feelings for each other and get his blessings, so they could have the life they wanted.

I quite enjoyed reading this slow burn, steamy, age gap romance, that was an easy read and fell on the good side of taboo, as age gap relationships are usually considered controversial, especially when it is a very close family friend. I was hooked from on the story the first page and unable to take a break, so I believe you will definitely enjoy reading this book just as much as I did.

This was a fun and heartwarming romance for Lilah and Wade. He's her father's best friend, so this is an age-gap romance. However, she's back home from college and suddenly the little girl he remembers is a beautiful woman that pulls at his heart. Lilah has crushed on Wade for years but now, with some help from the weather, they get to spend some quality time together. This lets him see her as she really is and how closely their outlooks on life match. I love that there was humour in this one and that they got their HEA. Loved it!

Trapped by snow, torn by rules, bound by something deeper.

When Lilah returns to Cady Springs to photograph the Colorado fall, the last thing she expects is to crash back into Wade, her dad’s best friend and the man she’s secretly wanted for years. Wade’s rugged, steady, and off-limits, but one look tells her nothing’s really changed. Not the way he watches her. Not the way she wants him to finally cross that line.

Wade’s spent years living by the rules. He’s a single dad, a mountain guide, and a man who keeps his distance where it counts. But Lilah’s not a kid anymore. She’s bold, unshaken, and standing right in front of him. And when a snowstorm traps them in close quarters, there’s no more pretending.

Tension turns into something deeper. Walls come down. Truths slip out. Wade starts to realize love doesn’t always wait for the right time. Sometimes it shows up in the middle of a storm and changes everything.

Lilah grows from a restless artist chasing something undefined into a woman who knows exactly what she wants. Wade, steady and silent for too long, finally lets someone in. What starts as forbidden becomes undeniable, built on trust, vulnerability, and the choice to stop running.

A steamy, age gap, forbidden, single dad, snowed-in, small town, mountain man romance with quiet passion and emotional depth, exploring desire, trust, healing, second chances, and chosen family. It’s about breaking rules to build something real, risking comfort for connection, and choosing the one person you were never meant to have. At its heart, it’s about a man who lets go, a woman who never backs down, and a love that finally gets to stay.

The Elevator Pitch: A steamy, age gap romance where a snowstorm forces two people to face the tension they've tried to ignore. He's her father's best friend, rugged and off-limits. She's done pretending she doesn't want him, and once they're alone, nothing stays hidden for long.

What a wonderful dad’s best friend, age gap telling the story of being /falling in love. Lilah is back home to photograph “Autumn in the High Country” for a gallery series. Wade who has known Lilah her whole life provides his expertise of areas to photograph. As they spend time surveying areas to shoot, the desires start to ignite. When Lilah gets hurt, Wade comes to her rescue. He knows he shouldn’t cross the line but Lilah convinces him that maybe sometimes crossing the line is worth it. Will they take the next step or respect that line shouldn’t be crossed? The chemistry between the characters were fantastic! This story is not only about love, but also a journey of trust, safety and discovering no matter what age you are, love can capture your heart. Readers will love this heart-warming story of two people who complement each other and find love that was meant to be. Highly recommend.

Take a walk on the wild side…

Just an enchanting, lovely story about a love that was meant to be for years - it just needed the right time and place. Besides wonderful characters, there are visual description so compelling you feel you are in the mountains. Wade and Lilah have known each other for years but she was growing up and he’s her’s father best friend. Coming home for a photography gig opens both their hearts. Low angst and some nice heat to round everything out 😊.

Forbidden love, age-gap, an injury that's not, and a snowstorm that traps Wade and Lilah together for a few days. Naturally their relationship blossoms and they realize it's more real than either thought it could be. I absolutely loved the slow burn feel to the story, even though everything happened in just a few days. The picturesque beauty of the landscapes are brilliantly described. I also loved how Dave handles the news of his best friend and his daughter at the end of the story.

When brave and stubborn overlap...

Lilah and Wade have a beautiful chemistry, it's like a flirty dance through the mountains, the snow and the perfect pictures, until the storm gives them permission to finally act and embrace their love. It's not an instalove, it's a love that has built over years, a love they tried to deny as it felt forbidden, but it's a love too deep and too strong. It's a forever love and it's heartwarming to join them on this journey. They are both such lovely characters, you cannot help but fall in love with them, a great read on Kindle Unlimited.

Lilah returns home to Cady Springs, camera in hand, ready to capture the beauty of fall — not to walk straight into the path of Wade Lawson, her dad’s best friend and the man who has lived at the edges of her heart for as long as she can remember. He’s rugged, steady, older — the kind of man who smells like cedar and regret. And now, he’s looking at her like she’s not just the girl who used to follow him around with pigtails and a fishing pole… but a woman he can’t look away from.

Wade has spent years playing by the rules — firefighter, single dad, loyal friend, protector. But when Lilah shows up with golden hair and too much sunshine for his quiet mountain life, every wall he’s built starts to crumble. He knows what’s at stake. She’s his best friend’s daughter. She’s too young. He’s too jaded. But none of that matters when a snowstorm traps them together and the truth can’t stay buried anymore.

What follows is a beautifully emotional slow-burn that turns molten the moment restraint gives way to need. The chemistry between Wade and Lilah is undeniable—that rare kind of tension that feels like coming home after a lifetime of holding your breath.

But what makes Wild for the Mountain Man stand out isn’t just the heat—it’s the heart. This story explores what it means to be seen, fully and without apology. Lilah’s courage to go after what (and who) she wants is inspiring, and Wade’s struggle between loyalty and longing is deeply human. Their connection feels inevitable, but never easy—and that’s exactly what makes it worth it.

By the time the snow melts and secrets are out, this love story has earned every ounce of its happily ever after.

🔥 Why You’ll Fall for This Story:
❤️ Forbidden, but fated — and oh, so worth the wait.
❄️ Snowed-in tension that turns into undeniable passion.
👨‍🚒 A grumpy, loyal, protective mountain man with a heart of gold.
📸 A heroine who’s bold, creative, and unapologetically knows what she wants.

Wild for the Mountain Man is more than a spicy age-gap romance—it’s a story about timing, trust, and the kind of love that feels both forbidden and fated. Opal Nicks delivers a tale that’s as breathtaking as a mountain sunrise and as intimate as a whispered confession by the fire.

When I began writing Wild for the Mountain Man, I wanted to capture that delicate balance between restraint and surrender. This is the kind of love that builds inside you … when every reason says you shouldn’t feel it at all.

Wade Lawson came to me as a man who’d lived by rules his entire life. A former smokejumper and now a mountain guide. He’s a divorced father at age 41, with his son experiencing his last year of high school. Wade is a protector of the mountains and everything precious to him. He’s extremely fit and disciplined.

Then comes Lilah — bright, beautiful and full of life. She’s the daughter of his best friend, which makes her off-limits. Yet her presence challenges every line Wade’s drawn around his heart. Through her lens as a photographer, she doesn’t just capture the mountain’s beauty — she shares it with Wade who recognizes that she sees what he does … and many do not.

Lilah has had a major crush on Wade for quite a while. While she’s been away in the city, she’s even dreamed about him. When a perceived accident and an early snowstorm in autumn place this couple in forced proximity, she bends the truth to stay in Wade’s care.

This story is about trust, timing, and the kind of desire that tests your morals as much as your heartbeat. Set against the golden hues of fall in Cady Springs, it’s both a forbidden love and a healing one. A reminder that sometimes what feels wrong at first glance is exactly what’s meant to be.

If you’ve ever fallen for someone you weren’t supposed to, this story is for you.

Happy Reading,

Opal

A Well-Written Story, but the Age Gap Was Too Much for Me

This Mountain Man romance has a nice story arc and well-developed characters, and the overall plot is engaging and nicely written. It’s a short read — took me about an hour — and I really did enjoy parts of it.

That said, the age-gap trope here was just too extreme for my taste. As far as I understood, it’s around 20 to 25 years, which made it difficult for me to fully enjoy the romance. The male main character also came across as a bit patronizing, which might fit the dynamic but personally didn’t sit well with me.

I honestly think the story didn’t need such a large age gap to be interesting — the plot itself had plenty of charm without it. Still, it’s a decent, well-crafted read overall, especially if you enjoy age-gap romances more than I do.

Lilah has always had a thing for her father's best friend Wade, and when she comes back into town, she needs him as her guide for the mountains, and they are surprised by what they learn about each other. A little snowstorm and some forced proximity later.... well read for yourself to see how Lilah's dad Dave and Wade's son react.

I liked this short, fast paced book with some delicious slow burn. I also liked that the characters had more depth than the usual short stories. They might have somewhat of a taboo relationship, but when Wade proves he can really see things the way Lilah does...surely we can't deny them the relationship?

This book is part of the Forbidden in Falls multi author series about older grumpy men and younger women, and I have also enjoyed several other books by the author. Looking forward to more!.

This is a story of Wade and Lilah. She is a photographer on an assigment back home, but she hides a secret, she has been in love with her dad's best friend for the past few years, and she senses he also has feelings for her. Wade is a retired firefighter divorcee with a teenage son, He has know Lilah her entire life, but now there is a pull that is different, but she is off limits.

However, she is going to do all she can to make sure he sees in her the woman, not the girl. She wants him to be cared, to be loved, and he wants to protect and love her. Their conversations, their chemistry it all leads to their passion and her revealing the white little lies she used to trap him

A great read.

I was not expecting the most important thing to go the way it did. I am not giving spoilers, but wow Opal had me wanting to know how it ended. I had no idea what to expect from this series when I chose to read each book–each book is written by a different author–and so far, each book has been amazing. Even though they are written by different authors you can’t really tell the difference. It could honestly be the same author just using different names–I love that I can’t tell the difference. If they weren’t all part of the same series, it may be a bad thing but since they are, I enjoy not having to wonder what I am reading and why.

Wild For The Mountain Man is the story between Wade and Lilah. This is a forbidden, father's best friend, age-gap romance. Lilah is back in town to do a photo shoot. While she looks forward to seeing her dad, she also REALLY looks forward to seeing his best-friend. Wade has always been her ideal man, and now that she's grown she intends to get him. One way or another. Poor Wade doesn't know what hit him. Lilah used to follow him around as a kid. He's known her her entire life. Now his world has flipped, and his friend will NOT be happy. This is the first book by Opal Nicks that I've read. I enjoyed it and liked the characters.

This is a really good age-gap father's best friend story. Wade has known Lilah since she was four and when she returns to Cady Springs after college and working as a photographer he sees her in a different light. Lilah has crushed on Wade for a while and her feelings deepen on her return. Their HEA is a page-turner.

This book is part of a multi author series called Forbidden in Fall Mountain Man series. Tropes: age gap, father's best friend, single dad, and forced proximity. Lilah has been in love with her dad's best friend Wade for years. Wade is a protective and a caretaker. One of my favorite tropes is age gap and father's best friend. This novella didn't disappoint on these tropes.

Opal Nicks’ Wild for the Mountain Man is a perfect addition to the Forbidden in Fall series. This was my first book by Nicks, and I instantly fell in love with her writing—straightforward yet vivid, perfectly capturing both the tension between the characters and the majestic mountain scenery around them.

Lilah returns to her hometown for a short photography assignment and unexpectedly runs into her dad’s best friend, Wade—the man she’s secretly crushed on for years. Wade feels the same pull toward her, but they both know there are lines they shouldn’t cross… or should they?

Wade’s steady, protective nature makes him an irresistible hero. As Lilah says, “It’s not just the attraction. It’s the way he listens, the quiet care in everything he does.” That line captures the heart of this story perfectly. If you love forbidden, age-gap romances where tenderness meets temptation, this one’s a must-read.
