Rate this book
Welcome to Greenleaf Lane, a racehorse breeding facility.

Theodora Green processes stress through one night stands. Safe one night stands that never come back to bite her, that make the stress slip away and leave her able to completely focus on her job managing the stallions at Greenleaf. Until one of those one night stands does come back to bite her with an accidental pregnancy and a handsome billionaire willing to do anything just to make Theodora even look at him.

But Theodora has rules even though Gabriel Hawthorne is slowly chipping away at them by just being kind.

One of my favourite parts of reading is learning about new jobs or hobbies through the eyes of people who are passionate about them. This contemporary romance is one of these book, focusing around horse breeder Theodora Green.

Theo has a no-nonsense approach to love: it isn’t for her. She guards her private life tightly, only letting her close knit family in. If she has needs, she will find the relief she needs for one night only. Her system works perfectly.

Until Gabriel. He’s the one who wants more…and they get it, in the form of a positive pregnancy test. The book is mostly about their growth individually and as a couple in the lead-up to their baby’s arrival. There’s some wonderful mental health rep (Bipolar type one and anxiety), First Nations rep (both the FMC and the author) and LGBTQ rep. It definitely had me thinking about Knocked Up as I read it.

I have to say in all fairness, the horses of Greenleaf Lane stole the show. I loved reading about the mannerisms and personalities of individual horses, the day-to-day business of caring for them, and the outlandish names they all seem to have. It is so clear that Ms Lambert is devoted to horses and you can’t help but fall in love with them too.

The story is open door and clearly *not* slow burn. There are several themes that may be challenging for some readers, including sexual assault (not the main characters), stigma surrounding mental health, parental abandonment, and self doubt.

This book is a standalone but has links to a previously written series. It’s an easy read and would be happy stabled (ha) on any contemporary romance reader’s TBR.

✨ARC Review✨

This book had me giggling and kicking my feet like I was falling in love for the first time again. Definitely my favorite one so far and I loved the nod to Nowhere Town in it. Theo and Gabriel just had my heart right away. I could read 16 book about them, seriously. I don’t want to give away any tropes but the one in this book is one of my favorites so I may be a liiiittle bias 🤪 I took my sweet time with this one because I didn’t want it to end. Thank you again for sending me this ARC, I can’t wait to get my physical copy to add to my collection.

First edition, signed copy of The Hobbit (my dream)

This one is the perfect accidental pregnancy book, with amazing representation of the struggles of dealing other mental health disorders. I will be back for more J Lambert books. Theo really just speaks to me in a special kind of way.
