The stars whispered her name. Their magic pulls them together—to rise—to fall.

Ever since the Queen’s death, Princess Aelira’s father, King Ardyn of Bailoc, has been cold and cruel to her. He reminds her of her purpose—to silently secure a future for her suffering people.
A magical blight has destroyed their lands for over two decades—the consequence of a war between the humans and fae.

Aelira will be traded for supplies the Kingdom of Bailoc is desperate for. When her future husband arrives to solidify the pact, Aelira uncovers a dangerous secret. One that’s been kept for 25 years.

The secret is her. Everything she’s been told about the war—about her birth—is a lie.
They’re not just trading her for supplies; they’re hiding her.

Her magic is awakening. It’s calling to a prince in the fae realm. He’s never questioned his duty until he meets her.

Will she sacrifice everything she wants for her people or step into a future she chooses for herself?

Thank you SO much Netgalley and Onyx & Ink Press for an ARC of this book!!

Someone wanna ring Maury Povich and ask him if he'd like to come out of retirement for a hot second? Cause how is this a debut author?!?! HOW!?!?!?

This was so good! From the first to the last page. It's not similar to ACOTAR but I think it's safe to say it's ACOTAR adjacent, like they don't live on the same street but they definitely have the same area code. The lush , vivid world building, the forbidden love, and of course the fae. I absolutely LOVED it here and I can not WAIT for the second book!

Until next time,
Hades

What an absolutely brilliant debut romantasy novel, by an indie author! I did receive a gifted copy of the book from the author, in exchange for my honest review. Thank you, Brit!

This book was absolutely lovely. It’s a fast-pace, high-stakes fantasy, with romance (but closed door spice, so not smutty), that takes place in a fae world. Let’s talk about it!

Bryndell does a beautiful job laying Easter eggs in this book, so you have to pay attention. Little details may seem insignificant, but they are all so intentional. I really liked that about Bryndell’s authorship.- the intention. Not only are there little details sprinkled throughout, but you can really feel her excitement and passion about the world she’s created. There are so many little detail as that are disguised as gentle moments, light touches, or just “background noise,” but they are all so important and lend to the larger story.

The start of the book begins in the human world, and then transitions to the fae realm. Once we hit fae soil, this book just takes off. There’s very little “downtime,” but when it seems like there is, it’s really developing the stories and the characters. I am exceptionally excited for book 2 (yes, this is going to be a duology), because I feel like she’s created a really solid foundation for things to just POP. OFF. Not that they haven’t already. So much happens in this book, and you really want to just keep reading and never put the book down, because you NEED to know how it ends.

There’s a whole host of personalities, and I’m obviously obsessed with Fyn (not the MMC, but the best friend, and he’s giving massive Cassian vibes!). The characters are complex - the bad characters aren’t all “bad” - they have moments of softness, which is a really astute observation on the human race (even though we’re talking about fae here).

The magic system is unique and interesting to learn about. The reader learns about it alongside the FMC, which is nice. It allows the author the space to explain and flesh things out, without it feeling out of place.

And the cliffhanger! Yes, this book does end on a cliffhanger, so obviously, I need book two (even though book one isn’t officially out yet! - Take your time, Brit, I’m just excited!).

Overall, a really great debut romantasy novel!!

EDITED TO ADD: Ok, so I keep thinking about this book and have some things I would like to add, mainly around the MMC. He is loosely structured around a cinnamon roll Disney prince, but I want to highlight something that Bryndell does incredibly well - we have this notion as romantasy readers & people who are fans of Disney, that the MMC and/or prince is perfect. They come in and save the day. That isn’t the case in this book. Lioran would fight to the death or disinheritance for Aelira, but he isn’t perfect. This book takes place from Aelira’s point of view, so we don’t get the same internal monologue or have a similar front row seat to Lioran’s growth, but he definitely develops over the course of the book. He isn’t just this static placeholder of a perfect fae male - no, he’s a person, with flaws and opportunities to grow from and alongside the FMC. They’re both on parallel journeys that intersect, but to continue on, they have to learn and grow together.

In a word: wow. I was able to read this book early as an ARC reader and now all I can think is: I have to wait longer than everyone else for the next one?! I read a ton of romantasy and fantasy and often, it takes a bit to get into the world and the characters- which is understandable due to the building. But this one caught me IMMEDIATELY. The author had such a way of hooking you in from the first page that I simply couldn’t put the book down. I actually found myself awake until 3:30am finishing it from 40% because I simply had to keep reading the story.

If you’re looking for a world that will hook you right away with magic, a strong female lead, friendship and of course a male that you’ll swoon over, this is the book for you don’t even think twice. And the best part? There’s already a publish date for the next book so even though the end left me wanting more, it didn’t end with me angry, confused, and questioning how many years it could be before I had answers.

I actually am already thinking about reading it again. Read it now- you won’t regret it.

Huge thank you to Netgalley and Brit herself for this romantasy read.

Every piece of this was magical. Not only is Brit and amazing author but also an amazing person which made this an event better read for me to dive into. It had such an incredible blend of fae intrigue, forbidden love, and emotional depth. Aelira shines as a heroine whose quiet strength lies in resilience and self-determination, while her romance with Lioran is sweet and full of longing. The worldbuilding is vivid, with magic tied to emotion and more. And while action takes a backseat to atmosphere and character growth, Brit delivers a heartfelt masterpiece perfect for fans of the slow burn romantasy trope. From the characters to the details and the premise of the stars being such an integral part really made this a read that I'll recommend forever.

Brit, you have managed to rip Romeo and Juliet out of the 15th century and plant them into a fae world and give me ALL OF THE EMOTIONAL DAMAGE! I don’t know how my heart will recover. This book is 5 stars of pure yearning and heartbreak.

An absolute roller coaster to read! I almost couldn’t bear anything else happening to Aelira. I don’t think I’ve ever been this invested in what was going to happen to a FMC!

There’s forbidden love and yearning by the truck load, and honestly no MMC yearns better in my opinion than a fae prince. They have a peculiar talent to want what they know they can’t have. Lioran is no different. Bound by duty and the weight of the fae court’s expectations, he tries to hide how he feels about beautiful damaged Aelira.

Aelira is a FMC who is half fae and half human, and she is just destined by the stars to break. She has been through so much loss and yet she is still facing challenges that would utterly devastate and break anyone else. She has this insane self sacrificing nature and yet she still dreams of her happily ever after.

I thought the pacing of this book was great. I was so drawn into this world but this isn’t a typical romantasy story. My heart was hurting at every single moment that Aelira felt crushed by Lioran, and there were plenty. Aelira finds it almost impossible to trust anyone could love her. There are a couple of closed door romance scenes and after all the yearning it’s a good little reward for the reader.

This book has a beautiful found family. Most of the time Fyn, Prince Lioran’s best friend, was my favourite character. He had excellent banter and provided the jokes that I sorely needed after having my heart absolutely trampled by the tragic love story of Aelira and Lorian.

The magic is this book was really interesting. I adored that Aelira and Lioran had grounding earth magic and the way Aelira could grow flower blooms tied to her emotional state. That spoke to my soul and I would love that magic.

This is book 1 of a duology and ends on a cliff but I am really looking forward to seeing how Aelira, Lioran and Fyn will face all the enemies and challenges to come.

My thoughts are that this would be a definite mood read. You have to be in the headspace to handle heartbreak because honestly this book is intense, with Aelira and Lioran’s forbidden love lending itself to a seemingly inevitable tragic outcome. If you enjoy the stars controlling the MC’s fate, impossible end game of our lovers moving towards their doom and yet you can still somehow cling to lingering hope, you will lap this book up like a cat with a bowl of cream! It’s deliciously heart wrenching.

Thank you to Crowns & Chaos PR and Brit Bryndell for the eARC and this is my honest review.

This lush, beautiful, yet heart wrenching Romantasy was a joy to read!

Aelira not only discovers that her mother left behind secrets after her death, but that her father, the King of Bailoc has arranged a marriage for her to Lord Thalen of the Vale, who harbors motives and secrets of his own. Aelira finds herself torn between discovering who she truly is, and to go through with this marriage to save her kingdom. When the fate woven by the stars compels Aelira to cross the divide that keeps the fae and human realms separate, she meets Lioran, a fae prince and guardian of Lythira. As the truth of Aelira’s heritage unfolds, and the forces of the blight destroying both the fae and human land, Aelira and Lioran find themselves falling in love as their fates are entwined and destined by the stars-but will their love be enough? Will it be the ray of hope to overcome the darkness destroying the lands they love?

I very much enjoyed this story and absolutely loved Aelira as a main female character. Her resilience even in the midst of fear and anxiety was so raw, real, and truly resonated with me. I loved the magic system and the little bit of lore and politics woven throughout, and because I loved it so much, I wish the magic and ethereal world that was created was explored even more. There is something about a blonde ruthless fae male character that I can’t get enough of (even though Thalen is technically a villian in this story). I will say that Fyn’s sense of humor brought a smile to my face, and as the story progressed, I fell in love with Aelira and Lioran as a couple, but they definitely put me through the ringer emotionally from beginning to end.

I am excited to continue and conclude Aelira and Lioran’s story in The Starwoven Crown!

I liked the names used in this book and appreciated the pronunciation guide so much! Names can really make or break a book for me. I really enjoyed the sweet moments with the horses and Aelira’s archery skills. I hope we get to see her take out some enemies with her bow in the second book. The magic system was interesting and I would love to learn more about why some fae have magic while others don’t. Aelira’s enchanted book was a neat twist. If I had a magic book providing guidance in a world of turmoil, I probably would have opened it more often than Aelira did.

The plot definitely progressed quickly with the book being under 400 pages, which made for a nice easy read.

However, the writing did feel abrupt at times leaving me wanting so much more. I would have loved to read more descriptions of everything - characters, rooms in the castle, creatures, landscapes, etc. I felt there was an overall lack of depth in the world building that could have been added while maintaining the whimsical simplicity of it all. The cabins in the trees were a lovely touch, but give us more!

Several times I found myself unaware of who was in a room/scene. It was startling when characters spoke that I assumed weren’t there. I had to backtrack a few paragraphs at times to understand where the characters were spatially. Like how did we go from being in a meadow, to on a bridge, and then Fyn would show up out of nowhere? He reminded me of the very sneaky butler in Mr. Deeds.

I really liked Fyn and connected with his personality the most. He kept the jokes and banter going which really brought out Aelira’s personality. Aelira’s overall behavior made sense for a Romeo and Juliet retelling. She’s been through a lot of change and goes from being controlled to having the freedom to choose her fate. I honestly didn’t want her to end up with anyone romantically. Our girl needs some time on her own as a free lady to figure out who she is and what she wants in life. She was crying, sobbing, and tearing up the majority of the book and really just needed to work through her self worth and daddy issues. But time wasn’t on her side.

Overall, I enjoyed the quick read that this was and look forward to spending more time with our characters in The Starwoven Crown.

Ahhhh this was such an amazing and magical romantasy read!!! I was so emotionally invested and boy did it take my emotions for a ride. The writing is absolutely captivating. I felt like I was discovering the twists and world right there with the FMC. I LOVE Aelira and found myself hanging on every next line just to see how things would turn out for her.

Wow! This book had me hooked from the first pages. I felt the FMCs emotions and curiosity right from the start and could not put the book down!! You get a princess being sold into a marriage she doesn’t want, but will save her people. And we always love that!! ❤️‍🔥 And then some twists along the way with a found family you can’t help but love and a total cinnamon roll for her MMC.

I will definitely be reading book two as soon as it’s available 🙌🏻

This one is a softer kind of romantasy, and it hooked me right away. The premise of Aelira being guided across the fae border to escape her arranged marriage by an unseen voice was one of my favorite parts; it carried this wonderful tension, and the reveal of who was speaking to her absolutely delivered. It’s Romeo and Juliet–inspired, but not in the most obvious ways, and I appreciated how Bryndell added some fresh twists that made it feel unique rather than just a retelling.

The characters are layered, intriguing, and fun to follow, even if I didn’t feel a strong emotional resonance with them. The world-building was lighter than I’d hoped; it hints at something expansive and magical, but never quite dives as deeply as I wanted. The romance carried much of the story, and it’s full of that aching, yearning sweetness fans of softer romantasy will love. I wanted a little bit more, but it was still fun.

That said, I struggled with the ending. It leans on one of my least favorite tropes It’s very much a personal pet peeve, but it did sour the conclusion for me.

Overall, I wish it had gone deeper with its world-building and didn't enjoy the ending, but it’s still a sweet, romantasy that will appeal to readers who enjoy a softer take on fae stories.

Thanks so much to Crowns and Chaos PR and the author for the complimentary pre-released copy. This review is voluntary and all opinions are my own.

I feel so lucky I was chosen to be an ARC reader for The Starwoven Song. It is a sweet story of sacrifice, bravery, friendship, love & enchantment. I loved having a pronunciation guide in the beginning of the book. I liked the strength portrayed in the FMC & how she fought to decide her own fate. The plot was accurately described by the author as “if Romeo & Juliet was a romantasy, & they didn’t go quietly”. It was romantic but not spicy, suggestive but not explicit. I was left on the edge of my seat at the cliffhanger ending & cannot wait to read the second book to see how the story continues!

A strong FMC, a let the world burn for her MMC, and a land full of fae, humans and magic, what more could I ask for in a romantasy. This book follows princess Aelira of the human realm as she is faced with marriage in order to help save her kingdom, when a mysterious lord comes to sweep her off her feet. But everything is not as it seems and she has a hidden magic over the land she shouldn’t possess. When she escapes her own wedding and makes her way to the fae realm, and crosses the divide, it turns out since she survived she’s not really fully human at all and might explain all of the strange and complicated parts of her life. She must now work with the crown prince of the fae to train her powers and try to save both realms from the blight on the land, while fighting the tension she has for the prince who should be her enemy.

This book was an exciting fast paced read. It gave very much Romeo and Juliet vibes where they couldn’t help but fall for each other even though they are on opposite sides of the conflict. There were lots of exciting twists and a prophecy that couldn’t seem to be stopped. I loved the found family that the FMC found within the fae world she stepped into and the tension and relationship she built with prince Lioran, though I do hope he learns not to doubt her. There was quite a cliffhanger at the end and I cannot wait to see what happens in the next book!

Thanks to the author and crowns and chaos pr for the gifted arc of this book, all opinions given are my own!

This book felt like being swept into a cozy, magical world. It’s a character-driven fantasy romance with a gentle pacing that carries you smoothly from point to point, never rushing, never dragging.

From the very first pages, there’s magic woven into the story, which I loved. The romance is absolutely central, leaning more toward romance than fantasy, and while it’s closed-door, the tension is so well-written it practically crackles off the page. The FMC, Aelira, is 25 years old and navigating duty, love, and her own self-discovery. She faces war and a magical blight threatening her world.

And for my fellow horse girls, you’ll adore the way horses are woven into this story. Wait till you meet Veylar and Gaia! They’re not just background details, but companions with heart and purpose. There’s even a one horse trope moment!

If you love political intrigue, tender romance, and a magical world that feels alive, this book is an enchanting read.

Thank you for this ARC Crowns&ChaosPR and Britt! I was honored to read and review!

I was gifted an advanced reader e-copy of The Starwoven Song from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.

I feel like it’s rare to find a fantasy novel that keeps you in suspense along with the main character, but that’s exactly what this novel did. As Aelira moves throughout her new world, she is unable to distinguish up from down or right from wrong. Her instincts are rendered useless against the magic and confusion she faces. The entire time I was reading, I was trying to figure out the ending, but Brit did a fantastic job of keeping the reader exactly in tune with only what Aelira was feeling, which meant I had no clue where the story would take me. No spoilers here, but what a fantastic ending and cliffhanger for book 2 which comes out in 2026. As soon as I hear of a publish date, you know I’ll be signing up for that ARC again!

I liked the story, but felt myself wanting more. More world building, more character development, more depth within the story.

The pace felt a bit choppy without any lead up to certain scenes. I also didn’t feel connected to the characters. I wish I knew more about Aelira’s backstory and relationship with her family. I feel like that would have helped connecting with her more.

I also felt her relationship MMC was rushed, especially given that she was not one to trust easily. But I do think his devotion to her is sweet.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The Starwoven Song is a beautifully written, fast-paced romantasy that hooked me from the start and didn’t let go. I’m always a sucker for a fae romance, and this one delivered yearning, magic, and heartbreak in equal measure.

Princess Aelira is such a compelling heroine - torn between duty, survival, and love. Her journey is filled with secrets, impossible choices, and that perfect blend of hope and devastation that keeps you turning the pages. The romance had me swooning (and aching), and the worldbuilding was vivid and layered with detail.

This book has everything I love: forbidden romance, found family, enchanting heirlooms, and a fae prince who made me fall hard. And that cliffhanger? It has me desperate for book two already!

A stunning debut - I highly recommend this for fans of high-stakes romantasy with star-crossed love, magic rooted in emotion, and all the feels.

Thank you to NetGalley and the Author for the ARC.

With nods to Romeo and Juliette 🎭❤️ and a love story so fierce it rivals any Romantasy tale 🌌✨, you won’t want to put this one down!

👑 Princess Aelira’s very birth catapults her world into war ⚔️, strife 💔, and a magical pestilence 🌿✨ that brings both the human and fae realms into desperation. Ever the good daughter, she considers marrying into a nearby kingdom to secure protection for her people. But when she stumbles upon an enchanted heirloom 🌟🔮, she realizes the stars may have a different plan for her fate.

🧝‍♂️ Prince Lioran, the future fae leader, already has his hands full with strategy and survival. Yet when he meets the daughter of his archenemy, he tumbles headfirst into a star-crossed love.

💫 This tale is filled with pining, persistence, and the overwhelming urgency to survive the blight. How could love ever take center stage?
It must surely be… Starwoven. ✨

I found myself instantly drawn into the story line. The comparisons to Romeo and Juliet were 👌🏻 and the fae vs human (or 1/2 and 1/2 😉) made it easy to sink into.

A couple negatives though:
It was a “quick” novel, despite its length, feeling like we never got too deep into each scene. It almost felt rushed?
Then the ending was too predictable. Even with the cliffhanger.

Bottom line: enjoyed it. Will check out book 2. But needs a little more depth with each character to sink in more deeply

A book mixed between ACOTAR and Romeo and juliet... throw in some Mr. Darcy type speech? SOLD.

Solid 5/5. it was a quick read and had you hooked from the beginning. A *tad* cheese in some points, but that tracks with the Romeo and Juliet aspect of it.

This was such a lovely debut novel by Brit Bryndell, and I am thankful to have been chosen as an ARC reader. Starwoven Song is a perfect cozy fantasy to read while curled with a cup of tea. I am a sucker for an emotional, yearning MMC, and also stories with a charming found family… so, I think I have crush on both the MMC and his best friend, Fyn 😆

I can’t wait for the second novel of the duology! I am hoping to get to know all the characters on an even deeper level and to learn more magical lore of the beautiful world that Brit has created!

For a debut book from an author, I think it was really enjoyable and interesting. Brit continued to keep you guessing where the story was going and what will happen.

Plot: The story is told from Aelira’s POV. She is a royal princess in a human kingdom struggling to feel like she belongs there. She ends up finding, or rather stealing, a book from her father that reveals her life may not be as she grew up being told. Learning more about her family’s history she accepts her fate by leaving her betrothed on her wedding day and venturing into the fae realm. She immediately meets Lioren and comes to find out he is the heir to the fae throne. Can their forbidden love survive royal customs and expectations? What happens when your past comes face to face with your future?

Main Characters: Lioren was a nice change for a fantasy book boyfriend. He isn’t portrayed as a 1000 year old fae waiting for his fated mate as you see so much in fantasy novels and stories. Although sometimes I felt their relationship was a little fast and rushed, it was filled with tender moments and plenty of yearning. I loved seeing a green flag man in a story! Aelira kind of whiplashes you while trying to figure out her feelings and working through her anxiety. Despite her struggles, she is strong and fearless.
Fyn and Cora as secondary characters are written very well. Fyn is a fun character with a jokester personality who is loyal to a fault. Cora is inquisitive and a little quirky, but never faults in her friendship to all of them.

The ending has a very big surprise revealed and it’s hinting at something even bigger for the next book! I love how the book ends with a standoff between the kingdoms and sets up beautifully for book 2! If you’re looking for a YA fantasy story with a magical world, a Romeo and Juliet vibe, all the yearning, and a group of found family I think you’ll enjoy the book!

Couldn't put it down. The pacing is fast and the dialogue feels alive, both are totally immersive. The love story between the two main characters is rich and sweet. The push and pull of their relationship and the yearning had me wanting more. I also really loved the side characters as well, like Fyn. His playful charm was great. Can't wait to see what happens in the next book.

If I could give the stars in the sky to add to my rating I would. The Starwoven Song had me by my heart from the start of the story. I finished it in six hours… That is six hours of many facial expressions, gasping, yelling, sobbing, and clutching my Kindle like it could save me. I had to force myself to slow down because I did not want the story to end.

Brit Bryndell built a world that is enchanting but real, I could picture myself in the grove, and riding like the wind to the divide. I could feel the warmth from the horses, the love and devotion the characters have to each other, the devastation that takes hold when the villains walk in, and the desperation to hold on when things are falling apart. The pacing that holds all these feelings together is just right, it’s a perfect rhythm. The magic system was refreshing as it was smooth and not complicated, it complemented the story without overwhelming it. I never had to go back and reread chapters to see what I missed.

Let’s talk about the romance shall we? The Starwoven Song is a closed door romance done right. The chemistry you feel between the characters, the banter (I’m a sucker for banter and Fyn.. chef’s kiss!) The care that was given to the love scenes had a tenderness that wrecked me. The MMC loves the FMC so deep it’s soul binding and made my heart ache at times and scream at others. The FMC’s backstory is tragic at first but as you turn the page it unfolds beautifully. I was sobbing, literally ugly crying wiping my face with my sleeves trying not to wake the house.

Then we have the villains who show up at the times they can be the most dramatic causing chaos and leaving you screaming, leaning forward throwing the blanket off your legs ready to fight..

I loved how falconry was woven into the story. Every time a falcon appeared, I was trying to piece together who it was, was it a shifter, or a spy, was it sent to watch over and protect the FMC? Annnnd, just when I thought I had it figured out, plot twist… … Oh it didn’t stop there, I was thrown this way and that, I felt like I was on a carnival ride from my childhood. The plot twists were everywhere, and they were Brilliant!

Brit Bryndell crafted a masterpiece, it was immersive, and wow, was it emotionally charged. If you like fantasy with romantic elements, pacing that keeps you addicted, and plot twists that have you gasping this is a great read.. I need the next book asap!

This book was PHENOMENAL! The only thing I'm mad about is that the 2nd book doesn't release until March.

This story follows our FMC, Aelira, who has been promised by her father, the King of Bailoc, to wed in exchange for help to keep his kingdom alive. Aelira finds a book that the king has hidden from her, and in that book, she's encouraged to leave and find her own destiny. Aelira leaves the night before her wedding, and finds herself on the other side of the "divide," in the land of faes. There she encounters Lioran, future king of the Faes, and discovers that she, herself, is not only part fae, but possesses magic that can help Lioran save his world from the blight that's destroying the land.

Bottom line, if you love a fantasy story, you have to read this. Especially if you're not into a spicy romance, as this is appropriate for most ages.

Can't wait for the conclusion in The Starwoven Crown. Looking forward to what's to come.

Starwoven Song - OUT NOW
Oh my goodness. What an amazing debut. Brit hit a home run with this Romantasy. The slow burn 🔥 was on fire, but the BANTER may have stolen the show. All of the characters were lovable… well except Agan, he can kick rocks (and a few other character, but I digress). The way the STARS were a focal point in this story had me in all of the feels AND the journal. This story constantly pulled at my heartstrings and had me DM’ing the author. I will go on record that I said “it’s giving ACOTAR … but BETTER!” One of my favorite quotes: “She will mend what’s broken.” Seriously, 10 of 10. Give her all of the stars. I highlighted ENTIRE PAGES. I CRIED. I kicked my feet. I squealed. I had to take deep breaths. I can’t fully convey all of the things this book made me feel, but I can say with my whole chest that this was in my top 3 ARC reads this year.

Blurb:

Speechless

Wow - I haven’t been left speechless at the end of a book in a while! Did I also find myself trying not to cry while reading (listening) at work? Yes I did!

Aelira is faced with a princess’s worst fear, being married off to satisfy a political agenda. Despite this, she gathers the courage to run even though the unknown awaits her. Drawn to her fated mate, she must navigate through a foreign kingdom that intends to use her for their own purposes. In the end, she must make a decision — allow herself to be used as a pawn or make the choice herself.

Spice 🌶️
Plot ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I cannot wait for the second book to come out!!

The Starwoven Song is Brit Bryndell's debut romantasy novel, and just... wow.
Aelira, the FMC, is the definition of a strong, empowering female. She isn't afraid to stand up for herself, and have a say in her future. She fights for what, and who she believes in, and won't back down when others try to make life altering decisions for her.
This book is filled with magic, love, friendship, twists and turns, and you're captivated from one chapter to the next.
I enjoyed the MMC, Lioran, who has a pure heart, and will do anything for his country, and those he loves. He fights for Aelira, even when her family, and his, try to intervene. He shows courage, strength, and valor.
The supporting characters, such as Cora, Fyn, and Elric, were also quite likable, and important throughout the story.
The book ended on a cliff hanger that left my jaw dropped on the floor, and I can't get the second book soon enough!

Thank you, Brit Bryndell, for allowing me to be an ARC reader!

This story pulled me in completely. The main character Aelira has so many obstacles she has to overcome throughout the book and moments where she’s having panic attacks, but also getting through them. As someone who struggles with anxiety, I really related to her.

Lioran is a breath of fresh air too. He's described as a cinnamon roll, but honestly that fae is just totally devoted to her and fierce too. And can we talk about Fyn for a moment? Because I’m going to need him to have his own book ASAP…or at least after book 2 is finished, because I NEED to know what happens next. I loved the banter, the magic, and their love story. Can't wait for book 2.

This is my honest review in exchange for an ARC.

“I would stop the entire world for a moment with you.”

Britt Bryndell’s debut novel The Starwoven Song did make me want to stop the world for a while. I had been looking forward to it for a while, as the author had teased a few tropes I really like (my favourite: “Only one bed… but he sleeps in a chair” )

The beginning of the novel really drew me in. It reminded me of the historical romances I used to devour : Aelira by many aspects seems to be your typical medieval heroine, bound by feudal customs, at the mercy of her father and brother’s decisions and trapped by the game of political alliances.

Except… she’ll soon discover that she’s anything but your typical princess. As a magical heirloom leads her to a different world, she discovers the lies that have been used to control her, and she will have to decide what path to follow.

I loved Aelira’s voice, her vulnerability, hopes, despair sometimes, and her courage and willingness to stand up for herself and others. I’m a fan of the “woman coming into her power” trope, so this was very satisfying. And although I am usually partial to dual POVs, I felt that here, staying with Aelira’s allowed us to really connect with her.

The romance was lovely, a really sweet take on the Romeo and Juliet trope.
While it did have its fair share of miscommunication (which I’m not always keen on), I really liked that they’re respected each other and actually TALKED to each other, tried to resolve misunderstandings, and forgave each other’s mistakes.

If I had to find one thing to critique : the ending felt a tad abrupt, but this might just be me (hate any semblance of cliff-hanger, as I definitely lack patience). This is a duology though so I will have to wait!

What I like best : the writing is very lyrical, with a soft, nearly spellbinding tone to it. I felt this was rather unique in the many romantasy books I’ve read, and I really enjoyed getting lulled by it.

Thank you Britt for letting me ARC-read this lovely story, looking forward to book 2!
