The Asphodel Project: Slated Jade

Rate this book
Levi Ward was born wrong—or so they told him.

In a world crawling toward collapse, where the government hunts down people like him, Levi has always known there was something inside him, something powerful, dangerous, and ancient. He hears a voice in his head, feels lightning in his veins, and sees things no one else can. But whatever he is… it isn’t normal. And it sure as hell isn’t safe.

Amanda Reyes has been by his side through every breakdown, every blackout, and every body left behind. Sarcastic, curvy, and never afraid to throw a punch, she’s the only one who really knows him, or thinks she does. But when a mission goes sideways, and they stumble onto a deadly truth buried by the government’s secret program, The Asphodel Project. Their fragile world fractures for good.

As new allies emerge and Levi’s powers spiral out of control, the lines between man, monster, and weapon begin to blur. The voice in his head has a name. And it’s no longer just whispering.

📍 Post-apocalyptic survival with a superpowered edge
⚡ Enemies in lab coats, monsters in the dark, and one hell of a found family
🔥 Slow-burn romantasy, unfiltered sarcasm, and devastating truths

Slated Jade kicks off a gritty, cinematic series perfect for fans of Vicious, The Umbrella Academy, and The Last of Us. Strap in this isn’t the end of the world. It’s the beginning of something worse.

This is the first fantasy meets sci-fi that I've read where ALL my needs for a book were met. And that ending?! I NEED all the other books, but this one. Not only as trophies, but to finish the story!!!

Cheesy, spicy and absolutely brilliant

The Asphodel project is the perfect cocktail of a book. The masterful mix of sarcasm, spice, adventure and the fact that it is dripping with just the right amount of gooey cheese. (The real deal, not the powdered stuff)
As I read it, my cheeks hurt in the best possible way. The banter was so refreshing, it quickly sucked me in. The bonus in T.A.P, is that beneath the smirky sarcasm and memorable one liners, there is a beautiful poetic heartbeat to this story and the way Jonathan writes. This book delivers on laughs, suspense, spice and one liners that stack so high I am an instant fan.

I wish I could put into words how much I loved this book while it completely wrecked me.

I fell in love with Levi from the jump, and Amanda was that character that I couldn’t help but relate to. The way she would do whatever it took to protect her best friend and person.

The story line draws you in so fast and you can’t help but binge it all as fast as possible. I may be slightly biased because I love the series in general. But hands down one of my favorite reads and so excited to see how it all ends.

The spice is just the perfect amount, the characters are lovable and full of the greatest quirks. And the plot twist the last chapters? Never saw it coming which is rare!

This was the perfect mix of sarcasm, wit, romance, smut, and action that I didn’t realize I needed in my life. I started off thinking it was going to be some nice comedic relief amongst all the angst filled romances I read, but damn that ending got me good. Definitely a must read for all those that don’t take life (or their books) too seriously.

Must love smut!

This book is definitely what my family would call smut. If thats not your thing then its not for you, but it is powerful and provocative. Sarcastic and witty

I received this book as an arc. I saw this story originally on TikTok. I wasn't sure if this was going to be a genre I was going to like, I am not normally a sci-fi kind of reader. However I was so pleasantly surprised. I enjoyed this book from start to finish. Levi the mmc is witty, charismatic, and hunk in his own mind among other things. His best friend Amanda seems to be the brains of the operation. Levi keeps her on her toes and she keeps him humble. Then there is the narrator inside of Levi's head(the man in the mask). As the story progresses you learn that Levi had a love interest and she betrays them. Throughout the story they come across more and more people like them. I will label them the Band of Misfits. There are a lot of twists and turns in this story, but I feel if I give any of it away it will spoil it. Most of the time if I accidentally get a spoiler I am ok. However with this book if I give even one thing away you would not get the enjoyment of reading all of Levi's quips. I laughed so many times in with this book. There is a plot twist I did not see coming and was shocked I did not realize it sooner. I look forward to reading the next book in the series. Jonathan Fitzgerald gives you comedy, tension, and spice all mixed into one. I encourage you to go out of your comfort zone and read this story it will not disappoint.

I went into Slated Jade knowing Jon from BookTok—his sarcasm, his wit, his way of building community—and let me tell you… it translated to the page perfectly.

The one-liners? Spot-fucking-on.
The banter? Constant and sharp.
The sarcasm? Overflowing in the best way.
The Spice? Ok Jon, didn’t know you had it all

This book had me actually laughing out loud, not just the polite nose-exhale kind. It’s fast, fun, and wildly readable, but what surprised me most was the depth behind all that humor.

The found family Jon pulls together feels eerily similar to his BookTok community—chaotic, loyal, supportive, and led by someone who genuinely wants others to succeed. You can feel the love, the intention, and the heart behind it all, which makes the humor land even harder.

It’s a quick, feel-good read that still manages to mean something. Love, laughter, sarcasm, and connection all wrapped into one.

And that ending??
Absolutely devastated.
Immediately starting book two.
Hoping the way it ended leads to something incredible—because I’m fully invested now.

This is just… a good book. Full stop.

I really wasn't sure what to expect going into this one and wasn't sure if I was going to like it. I am friends with the author on TikTok and kept seeing all of his posts and figured I would take the leap and check it out. I wasn't disappointed.

This book is full of banter, sarcasm, action, and some spice (which I wasn't expecting at all)! It is a fast-paced and quick read with some great characters. Levi, our MMC, is a traumatic, sarcastic disaster that is learning what he truly is and you cannot help but love him. Then we have Amanda, the FMC, and his best friend. She has been there through everything for him, and you can't help but love her too. Oh, and Jade, she can kick rocks.

Even though there's lots of one liners, sarcasm, and humor in this story, there's also depth behind it all. The found family component is amazing. While it's a bit chaotic, they are all loyal and supportive and all Liam wants to do is see them succeed.

The ending? Yeah, I wanted to throw my kindle across the room. And I may have sat there saying WTF just happened? Devasted to say the least. Can't wait to start book 2 and see where this story continues.

I usually like my books with a little more spice and a lot more smut, but Levi? Levi made me forget all my rules. His sarcasm is a weapon, his wit is foreplay, and the way he worships curves? I’d let him emotionally rearrange my insides and then ask him to do it again - slowly, this time, with snacks.

I don’t normally reach for apocalyptic fiction (I prefer my end-of-the-world scenarios with less dust and more um…kissing), but The Asphodel Project: Slated Jade felt like watching my favorite action movie while being flirted with by the lead. The pacing was tight, the comedic punches landed, and the side characters? Fully fleshed out, emotionally resonant, and ready for their own spin-offs.

Levi falls fast and hard, and I fell right with him. Chapter 23 lives rent-free in my head. I want to pull him out of the book, hand him a weighted blanket and a playlist, and let him ruin me with tenderness. Jonathan Fitzgerald, you’ve created a man who makes me want to spiral, sob, and send a thirst trap. Five stars, no notes - except maybe: more Levi. More chaos. More curve-loving devastation.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4/5

Gritty, emotional sci-fi that punches hard and then asks why you look surprised.

This story drops you into a world of engineered soldiers, bad decisions, and feelings no one wants to admit they’re having. The protagonist is the kind of traumatized, sarcastic disaster you can’t help rooting for, and the rest of the cast feels like a chaotic found family held together by duct tape, adrenaline, and mutual trauma.

The action scenes snap, the emotional moments cut deeper than expected, and the pacing makes it way too easy to say, “Just one more chapter,” until you realize you’ve abandoned your responsibilities for the day.

If you like sci-fi that’s intense, character-driven, and laced with moments that make you laugh even as you’re stressed out, this book deserves a spot on your shelf.

This book takes you in right from the start. I really enjoyed T.A.P. Slated Jade. At first I felt like something was missing. There wasn't chapters and chapters of building characters. He didn't need to. It was a very face pace book which made it a quick read. There was action, sci-fi, love, pain and a some spicy in there. The development of the world they are living in made me feel like I was there watching it all happen. The twist at the end was like a "wth" kind of ending. It left me wanting the second book right now

This storyline is captivating, the characters are fantastic and the banter (inner and outer dialogue) is freaking hilarious. That ending left me stunned. Seriously, wtf man! I had to immediately start the next book. There are some minor writing and formatting issues I had, but nothing I couldn’t get past when the story was that good.

Phenomenal Banter and Story line.

Jon created a story that kept me engaged and laughing the entire time. Granted Levi has an unhealthy obsession with raccoons, but honestly I truly enjoyed this story. The found family is what I connected the best with this story. A solid 4.5 ⭐️ and an excellent amount of spicy 🌶️.
