I was born in Teesside but now live in Scarborough on the stunning North Yorkshire Coast. My home inspired the creation of the fictional seaside town of Whitsborough Bay where I set many of my books although the Hedgehog Hollow series takes readers to a gorgeous new countryside setting in the Yorkshire Wolds.

I live with my husband, our teenage daughter and sprocker spaniel, Ella. I'm a self-confessed stationery addict with a ridiculously large collection of notepads who loves chocolate (although it doesn't love me), hedgehogs, 80s music, collectible teddy bears and lighthouses.

Other than a career detour into retail to set up and run my own teddy bear shop (the inspiration for novel Bear With Me), I've always worked in HR, specialising in resourcing, coaching and L&D. Writing always had to take a back seat to the day job until June 2020 when I left the world of HR to become a full-time author. I'm so very grateful to anyone who has bought or borrowed my books in whatever format, helping me fulfil a long-held dream of writing full-time. I still can't believe I get to spend every day chatting to my fictional friends and making stuff up.

I received a free copy of, Tomorrow Starts Today, by Jessica Redland, from the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. Yvonne Kellerman is finally getting her feet under her, after losing her beloved husband, a few years ago. Yvonne decides to join a sewing club.I wish i could sew, I have no creativity in me at all. Yvonne is such a Martha Stewart, with her cakes and quilts, she also has a wonderful friends group. This was a very enjoyable read.

I really enjoyed this book. Even though I hadn't read all of the series, I still enjoyed it and soon understood what was going on. The story was cute and easy to follow and had a great cast of characters. Plus I loved the place settings in the story. The author's writing is brilliant and I will definitely be reading more by them. I highly recommend it.

Jessica Redland: Tomorrow Starts Today
Audio book review.

It’s time to head back to the Lake District for the fifth book in Jessica Redland’s Escape To The Lakes series.
This book is completely readable as a standalone story, but those familiar with the series will notice a few old faces popping in for a welcome catch up.

Yvonne is our main character. She is a lady fast approaching her sixties and since the death of her husband a few years previously, her life has been a rather isolated one.
With only her parrot Trevor for company, Yvonne decides that things need to change.
Braving the local craft group, Yvonne opens the door to a whole new life.
Where will her new friendships take Yvonne?
Can she find love? Can old wounds be healed? And is Trevor a potty-beaked parrot, or will he keep it clean?

I loved the fact that Yvonne and her new gang are of a more mature vintage. Their depth of life experience brings some very interesting layers to this story.
The younger generation are well represented too and the mix of ages blends smoothly together.

The plot flows along at a good pace and JR throws in some interesting curve balls that I wasn’t expecting.

JR’s love of the Lake District is once again evident in her vivid and warm descriptions of the setting in this book.

Tomorrow Starts Today is a gorgeous read that will wrap you up in a quilted blanket made up of love, friendship, community spirit, cake and a parrot called Trevor!

The audio book is well narrated by Rebecca Norfolk.

Simply stunning. I am a huge fan of Jessica's writing and her books just warm my heart. Each of her books is like a soft hug but this book just sits a bit different.

There are so many things ive taken from this book, I wasn't going to bother with a journal in 2026 but after completing this book, ive decided to do one, and I also have some wonderful ideas for journal prompts and pages.

If youve never read anything by Jessica, please make 2026 your year to do so.

I have read and enjoyed previous Jessica Redland books, including others in the series, so I was excited to dive into this one. I recognised a few ‘old friends’ along the way, but there were plenty of new characters too, and this novel works equally well as a stand alone story. Jessica once again proves herself to be the master of the romantic feel good tale, delivering warmth, charm, and heart in abundance.

When he passes away, she is left devastated and lonely. Attempts to reconnect with her sister don’t work, so she joins a local crafting club, bringing along her patchwork quilts. There she finds a group of like minded people who soon become friends for life. Yet, as wonderful as her new friends are, Yvonne can’t help but think about an old flame — the one that got away.

Jessica Redland weaves this story with her trademark warmth and emotional insight. It’s a tale of grief, resilience, friendship, and the possibility of second chances. As always, her characters feel real and relatable, and the crafting club adds a lovely, comforting backdrop to Yvonne’s journey. This was a truly heart warming read. I loved reconnecting with familiar characters while meeting new ones, and I found myself completely absorbed in Yvonne’s story. Jessica Redland is the master of the romantic feel good novel, and Tomorrow Starts Today is another wonderful addition to her collection — a book I would happily recommend.

Thanks to NetGalley and Boldwood for the advanced copy of this title in return for an honest review.

This is book five in Jessica's "Lakes" series, the previous being:

- The Start of Something Wonderful
- A Breath of Fresh Air
- The Best is Yet to Come
- Sunshine After the Rain

It is also my 15th book of hers, and I am yet to not enjoy one.

There are 50 chapters which is roughly 7 pages per chapter, with some shorter and some longer, but overall it's a nice balance.

Oh how I loved Yvonne. She was so sad and lonely but hard working, passionate, and so kind. She was only 59 but she came across as much older, like a traditional squat, kind, permed grey hair kind of grandma-type, and even though I knew she wasn't, I couldn't get that image out of my head.

There are a number of other characters and they're all good, but because I am terrible with names, I did get a bit confused a couple of times but overall they were all very well written and did wonders to support Yvonne's story.

This is a bit of a departure to the others in this series. The previous books have focussed on younger characters in their 20s and 30s, with some older background characters. But in this one, the main group of characters are 50s at the youngest, and it was really interesting to see how Jessica's writing has transcended that age gap.

There are a lot of serious topics touched upon, but I won't spoil them, but Jessica hasn't shied away from touching upon those topics, particularly those that the older generation must face. But she's done what she does every time which is be honest and sensitive about those darker parts of life, but she keeps the tone happy and uplifting and positive.

Where this also differs is that the other books in this series are romance novels. Other stuff happens too but at the crux of it, it is a love story. And don't get me wrong, there is a sprinkle of romance in this one, but it's more about the characters finding themselves, living with grief, loneliness, a sense of self and community, moving on, friendships, and relationships.

There were a lot more twists and turns than I was expecting. I relate twists and surprises to thrillers or crime novels, not uplifting, romance novels, so that was an interesting addition.

I really did enjoy it, don't get me wrong, I love Jessica's work and always will and this is just as good as her previous ones. My one note is it didn't ]feel like part of the series. The previous four, you felt they were in the same world but this one felt a bit more distant, and I think it's because there's not as many cameos by pre-existing characters, which would have helped it blend into the series a bit more.

Jessica once told me that she plans this series to be a rather long one, and I am thrilled b that because I could, and often do, lose myself in this world and community she has created in the Lake District.

This is the next book in the Escape to the Lakes series and features Yvonne, a widow who is feeling lost and lonely.

As we delve into Yvonne's past, there are some shocking revelations and some really emotional moments. My heart went out to her.

When she takes her next step in joining a crafting club, she cannot believe how much her life changes. She meets new people, forms wonderful friendships and really comes into her own. I loved the fellow crafters and their stories too.

I read this when I was not feeling my best and I must say I found it totally uplifting, albeit emotional.

Jessica has a wonderful way of writing, with extremely realistic characters and situations.

This is a book about finding yourself, friendship and new beginnings which I absolutely adored. I can't wait to see who we meet next in the series.

A really sweet story following widow Yvonne as she attempts to pick up her life after being widowed a few years earlier. Joining a craft group & getting to know other members & hearing their problems & life stories literally helps her pick up the pieces again. A well written & constructed story but I personally found it slightly twee. It’s apparently one of a series but reads well as a stand alone. 3.5 stars.

Many thanks to Net Galley & Bowood books for the ARC.

Yvonne has sort of been sleepwalking through her life until she joins a local crafting group.
They’re a good batch of people and she creates her own family with them.
As the histories are shared of the group it’s heartwarming how they support each other.
Yvonne makes some bold moves and even finds a lost love.
I liked the sewing aspect because there is a lot of comfort surrounding it.
This is a feel good read and the title is very appropriate.
Thanks NetGalley and Boldwood Books for the advance copy.

2.5 stars rounded to 3. I found it rather monotonous and dull. I enjoyed some of the characters’ growth but it just didn’t land for me. I can’t put my finger on it yet. I enjoyed that it was in the same area and some of the past characters made appearances.

We have come to expect only the best from Jessica Redland and this book doesn't disappoint in any way.
The Lakes series was already a favourite and this book is no exception. Yvonne's story is definitely heartwarming whilst a little bit heartbreaking, as we learn her backstory.
A decision to join a local Craft and cake group at the Village Hall, five years after her husband Cliff died, is life-changing in so many ways.
The new characters seamlessly interact with those we've met in previous books.
Jessica promised us a ten book Lakes series so thankfully there are more wonderful books to come.

My expectations for books from Jessica Redland are always high, and with this series being my
favourite, the pressure is definitely on. However, those expectations, as usual, have been more than
exceeded, and Tomorrow Starts Today is absolutely perfect!

Yvonne Kellerman, whose story is at the centre of the book, is completely relatable, and I was
immediately drawn into her life and her losses. Accompanied by her delightful parrot, Trevor, her
days have become smaller since the passing of her husband. That said, she is determined to do
something about that, and on seeing an advertisement for a crafting club in neighbouring, Willowdale, she resolves to join. That decision becomes the catalyst for some emotional yet uplifting changes not just in Yvonne’s life but also for the other members of the group.

Although there are some younger characters, it was a pleasure to read about a more mature group
and follow their experiences as they faced the challenges that many of us may take for granted. The building of Yvonne’s friendship network was a joy-filled thread that highlighted the value of community and support. It was, however, a sobering moment when I realised that Yvonne wasn’t that different in age from me. It got me thinking about whether I could be so brave if faced with the same choices. I certainly hope so, but I’m in no hurry to find out.

One thing that remains clear is the author’s love for the Lake District. Each descriptive section feels
like a love letter to the Cumbrian beauty spot, and I adored imagining the sights and sounds. I found
myself moved by some of the story's elements and had to wipe away a couple of stray tears, but this
is a triumphant story, not a tear-jerker. As I mentioned, some parts led me to reflect on how I would
have reacted in similar circumstances, but only for a moment, as the tone was primarily light-hearted
and optimism reigned supreme.

In case it isn’t apparent from my review, I loved this beautiful book and now need to plan another
trip to Keswick!

If you are looking for an author who knows how to bring characters together and create warm bonds, friendships, then this is one for you.

Yvonne Kellerman has been a widow for 5 years; she hasn't really mixed with anyone in the village or the smaller area where she is, as her husband Cliff was her everything. After he died, it was her neighbour who helped get her through those following years, but with her now moving to be closer to family, Yvonne feels lost, left behind, and lonely. She sees a leaflet advertising a Cake & Craft Club, two things Yvonne loves (this Yvonne does as well lol!).

It is a huge step for her, but she makes it, and from that point on, she has found herself in the embrace of like-minded people, with similar experiences, their own troubles, but most of all, she is welcomed. Sher is not judged, just welcomed. This is all she wants, but there is still something that is tugging at her. Something unfinished.

From the outset of the book, it was very easy to connect with the main characters; they are full of fun and soon form friendships. To be honest, if they were not like this, then Yvonne would definitely not have mixed. The story of her relationship with Cliff is gradually revealed throughout the story; there are some genuine surprises along the way as more and more of her past is finally getting the chance to be told.

There are so many things that I want to mention about the different characters and the plots, but that would only ruin it for others. There is quite a lot going on, but the author has kept her cast in order and created a plot that is complex but so well laid out it becomes effortless to read and follow.

The story contains all sorts of different things about crafting, relationships, families, pasts, futures, and they have all been combined to create a story that is just brilliant to lose yourself in for an afternoon or evening.

If you are a fan of community-based contemporary fiction stories with romance, mystery and challenges, then this is one for you. It is part of a series, but I seem to have missed it. So I can say this really does work well as a standalone. It is full of emotion, empathy, and it is a wonderful book that I would definitely recommend.

Four and a half stars rounded up to five. Yvonne Kellerman has been widowed for five years. She spends her days crafting and chatting with Trevor, the parrot. When she receives a flyer about a crafting group at the Willowdale Village Hall, she decides to check it out. Will it be the answer to her loneliness?
I loved this book. It was such a cosy read, and the writing was excellent. Highly, highly recommended.

Another great Jessica Redland book. I don’t think I’ve given a book by this author under 5 stars yet and that streak continues with this one.

What I liked the most about this one is most romances or similar books are based on younger characters so it was nice to have slightly older characters with life experience as the last two escape to the lakes books have had. It proves two things 1 no matter how old you are you can still have issues and 2 it’s never to late to find someone to be happy with no matter your age. They are the two main lessons this book has taught me. As a single man in my early 40s I’ve often thought it’s not lightly to happen for me however books like this prove to me that maybe one day it will and it’s just going to happen when or if it’s meant to.

Yvonne Kellerman is a lady approaching 60 who has been alone for the last 5 years after the loss of her husband Cliff. She spends all her time crafting and in the company of her Parrot Trevor however when she sees an advertisement for a crafting club in the village news letter she decides to give it a go as she realises the need to have some human interaction. As she starts to build friendships through the club her world opens up, when she reconnects with someone from her past will she allow her heart to open and give herself a second chance at love?

That is the basic plot of the book, I try and make all my reviews spoiler free and all this is pretty much in the main blurb so wrote my own description based on that as if I think I can do it justice without giving main aspects of the book away I like to do that rather than keep pasting the book description as I think it’s good when reviewing to use my own words to describe what the book is about.

I loved Yvonne as a character and as I learned more about her through the book I liked her even more. The way she grew throughout the novel was amazing due to joining the crafting club and embracing journelling, that is something I have tried myself in the past however never been able to keep it up so this year my aim is to work on trying to go deeper into the books I’m reading rather than saying simply weather I liked or disliked the book. I could relate a lot to Yvonne because although I’ve not lost a spouse I did lose a friend back in April who meant a lot to me and it was hard for me to continue with my normal activities for a while however I pushed through and did because I knew it was what she’d want.

I loved the supporting characters in the crafting club who ended up being Yvonnes friendship group and how all of them supported each other. It was also lovely to see characters from previous books make appearances as well.

Seeing all the characters grow and deal with changes in their lives was lovely and the way they all supported and helped each other was amazing and wonderful to read about. I also related to Yvonne because of her playing the Piano as I enjoy it myself although I’m no where near the standard Yvonne was. It was lovely to see her redeveloping that interest after so long.

I also really liked Will as a character, the only thing that was a bit sad is the fact he came into the book quite late however despite this his character was very well developed and I loved the way he and Yvonne supported each other. One thing I liked about the characters the most in this book was their loyalty and lack of judgement.

I can’t wait for the other 3 books coming out by this author this year and I’m looking forward to the new setting we’re going to be having a series in. I have fallen in love with the characters in this series and have enjoyed every single book.

Rebecca Norfolk who has been the main audio book narrator for this series was again fantastic, she gave all the characters their own voice and her narration style really suits these types of books. As someone who is totally blind and prefers to read audio books having a good narrator is key as how they portray the book can have a big impact as to weather I enjoy it or not.

This is book five in the series "Escape to the Lakes" by one of my favourite authors Jessica Redland, it's set in the Lake District National Park, England around Derwent Water in the fictional village of Willowdale. It's a story of new lives, new hobbies, new loves, new interests and great friendships.

Yvonne is feeling low and fed up with not seeing anyone apart from the cashier at the supermarket, her best friend and neighbour is moving away, leaving her with just her parrot to talk to. So when the local village newsletter comes through the letterbox advertising a craft group starting up (along with tea and cake) she knows straight away that this is something she would love to attend and she immediately writes the date down on her otherwise blank calendar.
The cake and craft club is held in Willowdale Village Hall, she was really nervous and almost frightened to go in, worried about being a newbie and they might be cliquey and not talk to her. But after bumping into Paulette in the doorway she realises that it's not so scary after all. The club has been running for ten years and everyone is really friendly and when she tells them she enjoys making patchwork quilts, she realises almost immediately that this is a group for her and soon she is tucking into cake and drinking tea and realising that this could be the lifeline she definitely needs. This is the start of lots of friendships, and very soon they are discussing as a group ways in which they can sell some of their lovely creations. When the grandaughter of one of the members Saffy is introduced to everyone, she has some good ideas seen through younger eyes, but will they be able to put them in place? Also Yvonne realises that there's lots of things in her life that she desperately wants to change and now just might be the time to do something about them. One of these is to find love again, but will she be able to find that someone special?

I did appreciate the list of characters at the front of the book, it certainly helps to identify everyone if you are new to the series or just need a refresh.

I was drawn into this storyline straight away and I found myself really identifying with Yvonne, I felt like that when I moved to our village but after joining two knit and knatter groups (even though I don't knit, only cross stitch) I have now made so many friends, just like Yvonne. This is such a lovely story set in a gorgeous location and has really interesting characters that each have stories of their own to tell. As always books written by Jessica Redland are always a superb read with interesting characters that you can't help but care about, each giving their own individual lives and stories to the book. I found myself totally immersed in the lives of everyone from the very first few pages. I would certainly recommend reading this book and would have given it more than a five-star rating if I could, as it's a truly lovely five-star read.

Five years after the loss of her husband, Yvonne is lonely – the only neighbour she really talks to is moving away, and she knows there should be more to her life than her solitary crafting and her exchanges with parrot Trevor. The crafting club at the village hall looks just perfect, although joining in takes a lot of courage – but once she’s made it through the door, she finds a wonderfully welcoming group of people who each have their own issues and concerns, and who are more than happy to embrace her and become the friends she so badly needs. But as her confidence grows, and she embarks on new adventures she’d never have considered possible, she slowly feels able to share deeply hidden secrets – and that leads to the possibility of a happy ending she never would have expected.

And all her friends have their own stories – challenges aplenty, that they’re all more able to deal with when they have the support and friendship of others. I’d love to share some of those other threads – but much of the joy of this lovely book is in discovering those secrets that lie just below the surface, and it would be unforgivable to spoil that for others. But there are certainly issues that will engage every reader at an emotional level, willing on every individual as life delivers its setbacks, cheering them on in their moments of joy.

Something I particularly loved about this book was the age group involved – there are some really well drawn younger characters (especially one – I thought she was so lovely!), but most of them are in the more mature bracket, and that made them particularly easy to identify and empathise with. There is a large cast of characters, central and otherwise to the unfolding story, both recurring ones from earlier books (in largely supporting roles) and the members of the crafting club, and the author helpfully sets them all out in a couple of guides that precede the first chapter – all I’d say is don’t be put off by that, because I never looked back at it once as I so enjoyed getting to know them for myself.

As you’d expect, there’s a lot in the book about crafting – which really isn’t my kind of thing at all but I loved finding out more. And most of the individuals discover the usefulness of journalling (something I’d very much like to try…), but not as an “add on” – Yvonne’s journalling rather drives her personal story, and I thought it was particularly cleverly (and realistically) handled.

As always, the author has the most perfect emotional touch, with a lot of focus on families and friendship – and there are gentle touches of romance too, lost and found, that only brought more enjoyment to the whole book. I really couldn’t recommend it more – and it’s entirely readable as a standalone, with a new cast taking centre stage, so no need to catch up on the earlier books in the series (although I’m sure you’ll find yourself wanting to read more…). Just gorgeous – I really loved it.

I absolutely love Jessica Redland’s writing, and this book was no exception.

This one felt like such a perfect fit for me. I’m a crafter and patchworker myself, so having a main character who loves crafting straight away made me feel at home in the story. But honestly, it was so much more than that.

We follow Yvonne, who lost her husband and has been quietly stuck ever since. Her life feels small, lonely, and very grey. She isn’t falling apart dramatically. She’s just existing, day after day, and that felt incredibly real. The only constant company she really has is her parrot, Trevor, which I found both sad and oddly comforting.

Things begin to change when Yvonne joins the local Cake & Craft Club. I loved this part of the book. The friendships grow naturally, through shared stories, cups of tea, and time spent crafting together. Paulette and Milly were such a joy to read about, and I really liked how the author showed friendship as something that can slowly pull you back into the world.

What stood out most for me is how this story handles starting over. It isn’t rushed. The romance doesn’t magically fix everything. Yvonne has to learn to live again, to be brave, and to believe she deserves happiness. That made her journey feel genuine and earned.

You might be wondering if this can be read as a standalone, as this is the fifth book in the series, and the answer is a big yes. Even though there are characters from previous books, Jessica Redland makes it very easy to follow. There’s a helpful character list at the beginning, and whenever someone from an earlier book appears, there’s enough explanation that you never feel lost. If anything, it just made me excited that I now have more books in this series to look forward to.

If you enjoy stories about second chances, finding yourself later in life, friendship, and starting again when you think it might be too late, I really think you’ll love this one.

I’ll definitely be recommending Tomorrow Starts Today to all my crafty friends and audience. I already know it’s going to be a hit with them.

Overcome by loneliness Yvonne Kellerman takes a chance on joining a local crafting club at Willowdale Village Hall and in doing so allows herself to become part of a group of lovely people who will change the course of her life. I think what this author does best is show the emotional support which comes from friendship groups, especially in rural communities, and brings together characters who each have their own troubles but who are willing to help and support others in need.

There is a genuine warmth to the story which right from the outset me feel included in the crafting group with Yvonne as she tentatively starts to rebuild her life. Thanks to the author’s skill in bringing her lovely characters to life I could well imagine sitting in the village hall with my crochet and sharing cake, and chatter, over cups of tea. However, whilst the story has its wonderful lighthearted moments there are also some difficult issues which the author describes with her usual compassionate skill and fine attention to even the smallest of detail. I have really enjoyed being back in Willowdale again as it is a place I now feel to be amongst friends and making even more new friends amongst the crafting community has been a real joy. Tomorrow Starts Today is a warm and wonderful story of delightful friendships, the tentativeness of second chances and of going forward with renewed hope for the future.

Whilst Tomorrow Starts Today is the fifth book in the Escape to the Lakes series, it can be read as a standalone story as the author cleverly adds a list of recurring characters at the start of the story however, as with any series, it’s best to start at the beginning to appreciate the character development.

I didn't realise that this was part of a series and read the book as a standalone title. It was brilliant and I'll be going back to the start now to read the rest of this series and all the books written by the author.

It covered a delicate topic and throughout the book there were moments of sadness and stress for many of the characters but they were all dealt with in a sympathetic and caring manner. The book is well written and easy to follow. The authors descriptions makes it easy to picture the scenes and the people described. The characters were all so likeable and I wanted to be part of their friendship group and envied what they had! Whilst the majority of the characters are older the inclusion of Saffy shows how differing ages can become close when they share a love of something.

I myself have recently gone through trauma and a very stressful situation and was inspired to research Journalling and although I'm not doing it quite in the sense they do in the book I have found online apps which do the same and I must admit it is helping me and making me feel less stressed. It certainly gives me a focus as it did with the characters in the book. For that I would like to thank the author as not only is it an excellent story but it has health and mental benefits too!

I would highly recommend this book to others and think it can easily be read as a standalone title.

Thank you to the publishers, NetGalley and author for allowing me to read and review a preview copy. I understand the book comes out today and would encourage people to go out and buy it!

Tomorrow Starts Today by Jessica Redland is a warm, comforting, and quietly uplifting story about new beginnings, second chances, and finding connection after loss.

Yvonne is at a crossroads in her life following the death of her husband. As familiar faces in her neighbourhood move away, her loneliness feels more pronounced, and it becomes clear that something needs to change. Her decision to seek out companionship through her love of crafting feels natural and believable, and the crafting group she joins is full of quirky, kind, and welcoming characters who slowly draw her back into the world. Watching these friendships develop is one of the true joys of the book.

The Lake District setting is as beautiful as ever, with Jessica Redland’s descriptions making it easy to picture village life and feel part of the community. There is a gentle humour woven throughout, especially through Yvonne’s parrot companion, who adds lightness and charm at just the right moments. The story builds toward an exciting development for the crafters and a reconnection from Yvonne’s past, which is handled with sensitivity and hope rather than rushing toward an easy resolution.

This is a story about grief, but it is equally a story about resilience and learning to live fully again. The themes of fresh starts and rediscovering joy make this a particularly lovely read, and it feels like the perfect book to begin a new year with. Quietly hopeful and full of heart, it is a reminder that tomorrow really can start today.

Tomorrow Starts Today is the 5th installment in the Escape to the Lakes series by the uber-talented Jessica Redland.

Like many individuals whose lives take unexpected turns in their later years, Yvonne finds herself feeling lonely and uncertain about what to do next. Her passion for quilting inspires her to join a local crafting club, where she discovers joy and forms bonds with several members. As time passes, Yvonne realises she is no longer alone when someone from her past reappears. Unsure of how to proceed, she seeks advice from her friends, who encourage her to trust her instincts. Will she be able to mend old wounds and reconnect with her former friend?

Jessica, I truly admire your ability to weave such compelling narratives! I thoroughly enjoyed this story, especially as I celebrated my 60th birthday last year. Although I’m not particularly lonely — thanks to my volunteering with scouts, which often involves crafting — it was delightful to read a story that highlights connections between people of different ages. I believe that young people often overlook the incredible stories they could learn from older generations through conversation. I sincerely hope your novel raises awareness on the issue of loneliness among the elderly and inspires everyone to make a point of visiting their older family members for regular chats.

If you haven't already, I HIGHLY recommend buying or borrowing (from a library) your copy today!

It's never too late to find yourself... 💫

When she unexpectedly loses her husband, Yvonne Kellerman's world turns quiet and grey. Five years on, her days are filled with the gentle chatter of her loyal parrot, Trevor, and the comfort of her crafting table—but she can’t shake the feeling that life is slipping her by and Yvonne feels lost and lonelier than ever.

When she joins the local crafting club at Willowdale Village Hall, Yvonne expects nothing more than a few afternoons of sewing. Instead, amongst the other local crafters, she discovers friendship, laughter and a renewed appreciation for her gorgeous Lake District home. It’s a reminder that she isn’t alone and, with each new stitch, her confidence returns, and so does her belief that it's never too late for fresh starts and new beginnings.

When a familiar face from her past reappears, Yvonne finds herself standing at a will she protect her heart, or embrace the chance to love—and truly live—again?

My Opinion

Tomorrow Starts Today can easily be read as a standalone. Jessica Redland has written a delightful novel with some lovely characters. A heart-warming read. This is another book by Jessica Redland that I would highly recommend.

Emotional, uplifting, and bursting with heart. Tomorrow Starts Today is such a rich, jam-packed read, filled with just about every emotion under the sun. It’s one of those books that makes you laugh, ache, hope, and reflect all at once. The friendships at the heart of the story are beautifully drawn, and I loved how the book explored both the joy and the complexity of relationships — romantic, platonic, and everything in between. It felt honest and deeply human.

One of my absolute favourite threads was the ‘Made with Love’ storyline. As an avid crafter, this spoke straight to my heart. The sense of creativity, connection, and shared purpose was so beautifully portrayed, and I found myself wishing I could step right into that group and be part of it. There’s something incredibly comforting about people coming together to make things with their hands and their hearts.

Marianne’s storyline was another that stayed with me. I suspected where it was heading from early on, but that didn’t make it any easier to read. It was tragic, handled with care, and added real emotional weight to the story.

This is a book about love in all its forms — the good, the messy, the painful, and the healing. It’s heartfelt, generous, and full of warmth.
A gorgeous, emotionally satisfying read that I absolutely loved.

My thanks go to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for the ARC of this book.

Jessica Redland’s Tomorrow Starts Today is a tender, uplifting story that wraps you in warmth from the very first page. Set against the stunning backdrop of the Lake District, it’s a novel about grief, healing, and the quiet magic of second chances.

Yvonne Kellerman’s journey is deeply moving—five years after losing her husband, her days feel muted and lonely, filled only with the chatter of her parrot Trevor and the comfort of crafting. Yet when she joins a local sewing club, what begins as a simple distraction blossoms into something far richer: friendship, laughter, and a renewed sense of belonging. Redland beautifully captures how community can stitch together the pieces of a broken heart, one gentle moment at a time.

The story shines in its balance of poignancy and hope. Yvonne’s vulnerability is handled with grace, and her rediscovery of joy feels authentic and inspiring. When a familiar face from her past reappears, the novel delicately explores the courage it takes to open your heart again, reminding us that love and renewal can arrive when we least expect it.

This is a book that feels like a cozy embrace—heartfelt, compassionate, and brimming with optimism. Tomorrow Starts Today is a celebration of resilience, friendship, and the belief that it’s never too late to begin again.

Review of advance copy received from Netgalley

This is the fith book in the Escape to the Lakes series, but can readily be read as a standalone book. Five years after the death of her husband Yvonne is living alone with her pet parrot Trevor. She has no family that she is in contact with and is feeling very much alone. By chance she comes across a flyer for a weekly crafting club in a local village and decides to join.
This story covers how dreadful loneliness can be, especially for those of us not in the first flush of youth, but it is a positive, rather than negative, story, deep and slow paced but very rewarding to read. I'm not a particularly crafty person, but the club certainly sounded a great place to meet other people in a friendly surrounding. There are some characters from the previous books in the series and it is good to catch up with them. There is also mention of Yvonne's older sister, with whom she didn't have a good relationship as part of her unhappy childhood, plus Will, who she met very briefly previously. These relationships are an integral part of the story, with some surprises along the way. In a summary a very emotional, but positive feeling, book that I ultimately loved thus 4.5*rounded up to 5 *.
I received an advance copy of this book from the publisher through Netgalley, however this did not influence my review of the book.

Tomorrow Starts Today
by Jessica Redland

After the unexpected loss of her husband, Yvonne Kellerman finds herself in a quiet, colourless, lonely world. Five years later, her routine revolves around the comforting chatter of her loyal parrot, Trevor, and her passion for crafting. When she joins the local crafting club at Willowdale Village Hall, Yvonne anticipates nothing more than a few leisurely afternoons of sewing. However, she soon discovers a vibrant community filled with friendship, laughter, and a renewed appreciation for the stunning Lake District.

When a familiar face from her past returns, Yvonne must confront a vital choice: will she shield her heart or seize the opportunity to love—and truly live—once again?

Jessica Redland’s writing always captivates me, and this book is no exception. The narrative expertly delves into the theme of starting over, without rushing the process. The romance doesn’t simply solve everything; instead, Yvonne embarks on a profound journey of self-discovery, courage, and embracing her right to happiness. This makes her experience feel authentic and well-earned. It’s a powerful reminder that it’s never too late to find yourself. This book is engaging enough to be devoured in one sitting, and it’s undeniably heartwarming.

Lovely story!

I thought this was a book filled with hope, sadness, love and friendship, with a few surprises along the way. Yvonne is lonely since her husband Cliff died, but she feels stuck. She's only 60, but feels like life has passed her by, but doesn't know how to change that, until one day an advertisement in a community newsletter catches her eye.

Being of a certain age myself, I identified with some of Yvonne's emotions. It is hard to be brave enough to make new friends as an older person, I think people are less open to new experiences at that age. In Yvonne's case, she grew up in a very unhappy household, her marriage was not what others would consider conventional, so she was taking a risk the day she walked into the village hall. The reader is drawn into her insecurities and I found myself rooting for her and all the others in the crafty club.

If you enjoy small town UK stories, sweet, clean romance and female friendship tales, this is the book for you.

Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book, but my opinions are my own.
