Emergence

Rate this book
"Emergence" follows Dr. Veronica Davies dangerous path of enlightenment as she uncovers the devious plot of an international investment conglomerate to hedge the emerging markets surrounding our current global warming contention by producing antithetical scientific papers; one on the imminent, cataclysmic dangers of anthropogenic drivers, and the other on the benign nature of the human species’ effect on the global climate. As she works to uncover the footprints of the Earth’s paleoclimate, Dr. Davies, a Petrologist and Geology Professor at Texas A&M University, is joined by her mentor, Dr. Gary Stone and his colleague, Dr. Huang Quifeng. Together, they set out to extract two ice cores and one stalagmite in order to analyze the isotopic and geologic evidence needed to understand the changes occurring in the Earth Systems. In process, the expedition is torn apart. Dr. Davies is forced into a violent world, fighting for survival while also fighting to maintain the virtues of truth and pure science.

It is an intelligent thriller that began as a senior thesis in partial fulfillment of an Integrated Studies Degree. The form science and philosophies presented have been vigorously and successfully defended before an academic panel of experts. Emergence is divided into five parts. Each part begins with a segment of an allegory analogous to Plato’s Allegory of the Cave and varied emergence mythos. Please keep in mind; the five sections of the allegory have been intentionally constructed in opposition to the main body. The allegory is intended to augment the plot poetically and is not integral. For those of you who enjoy a smoother, more contiguous read, skipping the allegorical sections may be advisable.
