Homicide Detective Stanford Carter uses Zen meditation to deal with the gruesome crimes of humanity. But his composure is severely tested when an unfaithful husband and stripper are not only murdered but showcased for their immoral lives. To test his mettle further, department policy is jeopardizing his romance with his CSI colleague Jill Seacrest. Marrying colleagues is prohibited and Carter must either end his romance or have Jill put in for transfer. The private detective hired by the family of the victims becomes the only suspect. Carter theorizes someone with knowledge in law enforcement is responsible for leaving clean but disturbing crime scenes. Further investigation leads him to believe a pair of killers might be working as serials. As Jill goes undercover to investigate the PI's social life, Carter fears he might not only fail to stop the vigilante killings but lose the love of his life.

Bravo! A good fast read! now i am hooked. This was such a great, easy and creative book. i was hooked after the first page.
The characters were easy to fall in love with and follow, along with the story. the author made the mental visions so easy and vivid of the surroundings and the characters actions felt so real.
i would highly recommend this author and this book.
This was a really good book.I enjoyed it. We have good guys, bad guys, some I really couldn;t tell who they were for. Stanford Carter wants to marry his love,Jill, who is a colleague and it is against regulations. In the end, regulations won't matter. Thomas Pedrosa was a fine narrator.I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

I am working my way through this series and quite enjoying it. The lead characters are different (very zen) and it works very well. There was the focus on whether or not they were going to be able to get married or if Jill had to leave.
The crime itself was entertaining and got me thinking and I liked it. I liked the narration style once I got used to it.
This is, unfortunately, not an enjoyable book to read. If you were to skip few chapters, could be in a different book due to lack of coherence. New characters are introduced (eg the psychic) to get to the next story point, and then forgotten. The story meanders. Disappointing.
This is the first book I have listened to by Gary Starta The suspense and thriller kept me on the edge of my seat, with well-defined characters. The narration is clear.
Review of Kindred Killers by Gary Starta A Stanford Carter Murder Mystery 5 stars
Readers who have read any of author Gary Starta’s series about FBI Special Agent Caitlin Diggs, who underwent a mysterious experience, gaining psychic powers, will be familiar with her good friend and occasional colleague, Stanford Carter of the Bureau of Investigative Services in Boston. Here he is in a series of his own, and does he have a lot on his plate to deal with, both professional and personal. On the investigative side, Carter must track down the killer, or killers, of, consecutively, a real estate agent who took his marital vows lightly; a runaway who danced as an exotic stripper at a low-rate Boston club; and the son, and presumptive heir, of a Massachusetts crime family-not the biggest, but one of the runners-up. Was it one killer, or is there no connection? Carter suspects an answer, but he needs factual evidence. Meanwhile, his engagement to his beloved colleague, forensic technician Jill Seacrest, has been outed; and Carter and Seacrest are informed that, according to Bureau policy, they must either not marry, or one or both must transfer out.
As in any book by this author, what meets the eye is never all there is to know; and by the time we reach the end, secrets upon untold secrets will have been rooted out and exposed, and the reader will have gained an education into certain aspects of forensics, detection, and psychology.
Gary Strata is a new author to me, and I truly enjoyed Kindred Killers. I read a wide variety of genres, but alongside romance, crime and mystery thrillers are at the top of my favorite reads.
Kindred Killers had so many twists and turns in the plot, I really never suspected who the real murderer was until Detective Carter began to suspect him, and usually I have an idea when I read a book.
I loved the idea of Carter using Zen meditation to help himself cope with the horrors that he encountered in his work. I loved his dedication to his work, but also his commitment to his love, Jill Seacrest. And PI Jay Fishburne captured my attention as well. It really threw me for a loop when his friend and confidant Sid Auerback (who is a cop) turned him in as a possible suspect for the serial killings. I began to wonder—could it be true??
Kindred Killers is not only a murder mystery, it is a psychological thriller involving a murdered who didn’t know he was a murder. Wow—talk about a shocker.
I found this book to be a terrific read, and Gary Strata is on my list of authors to follow. After I read the book I discovered that he has several others.
This book sat on my mystery list for a long time. Today, I suddenly decided to buy it and read it. And it was really good!
Jill Seacrest, a forensic scientist, and Stanford Carter, homicide detective, are engaged. The wedding day is set, but is sadly in limbo because of department policy. No marriages between persons in the BIS, even though they are in different units. Then a serial killer takes their minds off of their personal problems. Victims are being killed in different ways, but they are all connected to a PI, Jay Fishburne. Is he punishing the victims for the anguish they have heaped on their families?
The book was really interesting and the killer was not easy to catch. As the case went on, more suspects popped up. Soon, there was a plethora of suspects. I really enjoyed this book and I think you would, too. I think there's a sequell. You can be sure that I will be reading that.
While Stanford Carter, the main character and a character from the Caitlin Diggs FBI series, is searching for a killer, or killers, while dealing with a break in his engagement to fellow officer, Jill Seacrest.
This is a quick read and an entertaining story. Sometimes the characters' roles seemed cliché but the characters themselves had all the flaws and capabilities we expect we find real people.
The plot did have any twists but there were pieces of evidence (or, secrets) that were interesting once revealed, but it was basically easy to follow.
Sometimes it's fun to read purely for pleasure...this book satisfied that need.
I really enjoyed this novel and feel Gary Starta does an amazing job telling a murder mystery. He seems to know a lot about procedures of law, but more importantly he seems to know a lot about killers. Jay Fishburne is a private eye and his friend Sid Auerback is a cop. When Jay's clients start dying something doesn't feel quite right about Jay's being close to the victim's. Is it more than just a coincidence? It will take the work of Investigator Stanford Carter and his fiance Jill Seacrest to dig into the mystery and find out what's really happening. Gary Starta rights a great mystery with enough twists to keep readers on the edge of their seats and trying to out guess the investigators.
IT WASN’T BADLY WRITTEN JUST KINDA BORING DIDN’T HOLD MY INTEREST. THE REHASHING JUST ABOU EVERTHING WAS WAY TOO MUCH HAVING A DIFFERENT CHARACTER REPEATING THE SAME STUFF OVER GETS BORING. AT ABOUT 50% I STARTED TO STOP READING BUT I STRUGGLED ON. SCREAM! TO MANY BACK STORIES THEY STARED TO CONFUSE THE STORY LINE. I DID AGREE WITH CARTER’S THINKING ABOUT VIOLENCE ON HOW IT MAY OR MAY NOT EFFECT CHILDREN. PARENTS DON’T WANT TO DO THEIR JOBS THEY ALWAYS WANT TO BLAME THEIR SHORT COMINGS ON SOMEONE ELSE. BEING A PARENT ISN’T EASY AT ALL. ;[
Too many ideas in one book. You have the strange murders, police problems, mob problem, psychological problems and relationship problems. None of which are completely explained. How did the killer actually manage to do what he did by himself, why were there problems in the police department, why were there problems with the mob. Too much in one book that didn't really completely explain anything. Won't be reading any more of Stanford Carter stories.
Kindred Killers by Gary Starta is a good mystery. It has terrific characters and a well imagined story line. For some reason, it just didn't reach out and grab my attention. It took a long time to read and became repetitive towards the end. I enjoyed it well enough.
This is the first book I have read of Gary Starta's. Reading the suspense/thriller kept me on the edge of my seat, with well-defined characters. I have to read the Caitlin Digg series after being exposed to her on this book.
PI Jay Fishburne (aka Sugarman) & Sergeant Sid Auerbach (Jay’s BMF, Boston PD) were at their favorite hangout Brian’s Bar. Denise (barmaid) made sure the fellows were never empty. Jay was telling him about Lucy (hooker GF). He continued to make her an offer to get off the streets. She just wasn’t buying it. Lynn (city). Therese Collins (Dan’s wife) had hired Jay to tail her husband Dan Collins. Jay went to see Therese he thought for the last time. Things didn’t go quite as he had planned. Dan (37) had been found in a dumpster,
Officer Jamieson had arrived on the murder scene. Lieutenant Detective Stanford Carter (Boston PD, BIS: homicide, Jill’s fiancé) arrived shortly after. Detective Carter & Officer Jamieson went to speak with Therese (widow). Cheryl “Cherry” Thomas (18, runaway, aka Cherry Sorbet, stripper, prostitute) was the next brutally murdered victim. It seems Spread Eagle bar (strip club) was the choice. Sherry Thomas (mom), & Darryl Thomas (dad) were notified of their daughter’s death. She had been found at the Fenway HS. Timothy Tim Pressler was now unemployed. Cherry’s last known residence was living with Timothy “Tim” Pressler (unemployed).
Jill Seacrest (Boston PD CSI) was helping with the investigations. Will the murder mysteries get solved & someone brought to justice? Rarely is someone diagnosed DID.

A very awesome book cover, great font & writing style. A very well written Murder Mystery book. It was very easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a great set of unique characters to keep track of. This could also make another great Murder Mystery movie, or better yet a mini TV series. There is no doubt in my mind this is a very easy rating of 5 stars.
