i wish i could dish out negative stars. how dare she? if i read the original, told it to my 8yo, he would relate it then to my 6yo and he would write a book, it would still have more essence than this wretched abomination of a book. perhaps that was Rivera´s intention: dig out some classic, cut it up, let it rot, stitch it back up without love and let it loose on the world. that would be the only way she may have come close to the genius of the original. and i hope her creation comes back to haunt her dreams until it is finally forgotten by all generations of misguided, disillusioned, and bored school children.
and if you think at least her spanish would be at a level that would be meaningful.... no, it is not.
i have never suffered so much reading a book. i dedicate this to my 10yo, for whom i am going to fight tooth and nail in order that she will be spared to read it in class.
