Practising the Piano is an interactive, multimedia eBook series which shows you exactly what you need to do to get the most out of your practice time. The series is the culmination of years of experience by Graham Fitch, one of the UK’s leading independent piano teachers. There are surprisingly few books that deal with the art of practising. Given the amount of time an aspiring pianist needs to spend practising, it is very important to know exactly what to do in order to make the best use of this time. Practising the Piano will equip you with specific tools to help you every step of the way and will give you concrete skills to learn pieces, solve problems, memorise, and much more. You’ll notice real results in your playing – guaranteed! Practising the Piano - Part 1 (in three volumes of which this is the first) is a foundation course on practice methodology or what could be called techniques of learning. It shows you how to organise your practise sessions for maximum effect, enabling you to learn new pieces quickly and efficiently. It also provides a number of specific practise tools which will improve your confidence and the overall quality of your playing. Please note that this book contains video, audio and downloads that require an internet connection and a multimedia capable device (e.g. tablet or computer) to play back or access.
Excellent book. It is clear that Graham Fitch is not only a master of the piano but also avidly interested in pedagogy. Many of his examples of how to practice I think apply to areas outside of the piano. I can’t wait to try his practice ideas. Definitely a must read for anyone serious about learning the piano.
Concise and practical, while acknowledging reality: “There is always that nagging feeling we could have done more - all we need is a few more days and we’d be fine.” Only wish that the half dozen mini books he has written were available as one larger volume.
“If it were easy to play the piano, then everyone would be doing it!”
Graham has a unique approach to practising. This book, alongside with the linked videos, is very suitable to amateur, self-taught piano players and returnees like myself.
