Saving Kenna

Rate this book
I knew from the first moment I saw her, Kenna Campbell would be my undoing. I've done my best to stay away from her, but I fail at every turn. Now, she's been taken from me, and I'll stop at nothing to get her back.

Irish born, Sloan Sullivan is a man with a past he can't escape. Everything about him, from his identity to his profession, is a lie.

Until he met Kenna, he didn't think twice about his fraudulent life. Now, his past is threatening his future and preventing him from saving the woman he loves.

I've loved Sloan from the moment I saw him. Though he pushes me away at every turn, and his alpha male tendencies frustrate me, I never leave. I always give him a second chance.

Kenna Campbell fell in love with Sloan Sullivan when she was sixteen. Throughout the years, she's stayed true to him even when it hurt her to do so.

In a heartbreaking turn of events, Kenna falls prey to Marcus Xavier's evil game. Though she's physically survived the brutality she suffered at the hands of two men, her emotional and mental scars refuse to heal, and she wonders if she's broken beyond repair.

Is love enough to keep these two together, or will the monsters from both their pasts destroy them forever?

Saving Kenna is an erotic stand-alone novel with a paranormal twist, a bunch of second chances, and a sweet happy ever after set in the Indulging series world. It is not necessary to read Indulging in Irelyn or Being Zolt, but I hope you'll want to after reading Kenna & Sloan's story.

This was a DNF for me at 68%. This book was marketed as a stand alone story but as someone who hasn't read any of the main series, I don't feel like it's standalone at all.

I didn't click with any of the characters. They were all very flat with no development. I think if I'd read the series this book is from and actually had a clue who people were and what motivated them I would have enjoyed it more. As it is I just didn't care at all.

"The problem is I can't love you and I can't hate you. I need to just nothing you. Loving you hurts too much."
4 mystical emerald stars!! I had heard that this book had a little "paranormal" activity. However, after reading this I would say its more "mystical." I am not going to say anymore because I don't want to spoil it for anyone. Kenna and Sloan meet when Kenna is 16 and he is 24. Creepy right? Well, not really because he is a total gentleman and it takes years before anything actually happens between them. They love each other so desperately but with Sloan's past secret life and Kenna's family they remain a secret. Until one day when everything changes and Kenna is kidnapped. The first half of this story focuses on her kindapping and Sloan doing everything he can to try and find her. Part 2 starts after she is rescued. Nothing after that point is easy for Kenna and she will never be the girl she was before the accident. But is Sloan able help her pull through or will their relationship be lost forever? The "mystical" part of this story still baffles me and the author left so many questions unanswered, and so many new questions formed. There will be at least 3 more books, I am assuming this is where I will get my answers. Saving Kenna can be read as a stand-alone novel or may be read with the Indulging In Irelyn series. I read as a stand-alone and found it very easy to follow. The other characters Zolt and Irelyn do play a major role in this story as well. One thing I wish is that I would have felt a hint more of a connection or "spark" between Kenna and Sloan, I could tell they loved each other but with so many years skipped I felt like the connection was sort of lost. I loved Sloan & Kenna both dearly. The ending was perfect.

"I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads."

I have read both the previous books in this series, and although this is billed as a stand alone, the previous characters do feature. I couldn't wait to read more by this talented author. She has a habit of writing from both the leads' POV, which worked well before, and is very effective here. The desire to get into the book and make them talk to each other, not just reveal their feelings to us, was strong!

This is quite a dark tale, but I think that the back story gives us enough of an understanding that it is manageable. But all flowers and poetry it is not. It forces Sloan and Kenna to dig deep into their reserves of resilience, and at times it is difficult to be optimistic. That said I trust Ms Raver, and once again she does not let the reader down. There is clearly more to come - for which I am grateful.

Saving Kenna, is the first book that I’ve read written by D.L. Raver.
And this book is amazing.
The story and the characters are great.
All of them (not just the main characters, Kenna and Sloan) are easy to love.
The characters, Kenna and Sloan are good.
Both characters are easy to love and like.
Kenna, an woman who has a kind heart and is willing to give all for the person she loves.
But when the unexpected thing happen, her world changed.
Sloan, a mysterious guy who is hot. Dang!
Anyway, the story of Saving Kenna is really amazing.
In the story, everything is perfect, well aside in how Sloan treated Kenna sometimes.
But everything changed when an unexpected thing happened to Kenna (that almost destroyed her).
As the story goes, things get interesting and exciting.
With all the things that made Kenna, she’s not the same girl on who she was before.
Ms. D.L. did an amazing job in making this book really good and made me emotional on some parts

We met Sloan and Kenna in Indulging Irelyn. This book follows the horror of Kenna's abduction and what Sloan goes through to save her. Be prepared for you emotions to be all over the place.

You learn so much about Sloan in this book and it helps you understand why it is so hard for him to be with Kenna. Kenna the horrors that she faced when abducted messes with her head. Can she get over it? Read her struggles and how she faces her fears.

I love that this book was wrote in multiple POV and there were also different chapters for past and present. That helps set the storyline for what is in Sloan's and Kenna's future.

If you want to read a book that will take you on an emotional rollercoaster then read this. It is filled with suspense, abduction, happiness, mystery and the strong love between to strong headed people. Another great read from D.L. Raver.

Kenna played a major role in the previous book. Though we never found out what happened to her. This was an emotional read. I felt for these characters and they were usually strong in nature. This connection that they feel is some what...other wordly? Maybe? I still enjoyed how the author has been setting you up for this book the entire time. Things fall into place nicely. The way Sloan tries to help her. How he never thinks before he leaves!! I read all three books in two days and I am wanting to know about Brody. He has to have a turn and so doe Kiernan! Let's see what happens. I know it can't just end here!

I received an ARC of this book. Thank you so much Dawna!

This book was so good. It takes place in the same time frame as Being Zolt. It is just in Sloan and Kennas POV.I couldn't believe everything that Kenna went through. My heart kept breaking for her. I was happy when Sloan and Kenna finally had no secrets and we're able to be together. They totally deserved their happy ending :) If you haven't read Indulging in Irelyn and Bring Zolt go read them now so you can read this book! ♡

Oh my goodness that story was completely heart wrenching!! I most definitely ugly cried for pretty much all of part two of the story. Kenna’s ordeal just ripped me to shreds and made me root for her happily ever after. This story had me cry and laughing and experiencing every emotion under the sun!

Kenna Campbell is in for a change of a lifetime. Kenna is kidnapped from her home by a dangerous and deranged man. She becomes embroiled in a plot to be used against her loved ones to satisfy Marcus Xavier twisted schemes. Surviving the horrific deeds done to her was only the first part of her journey, overcoming them is the rest. Will she or will she not have the strength to pick herself back up and fight for the future she deserves? Well that question comes down to one man; Sloan Sullivan. Kenna has been in love him since she was sixteen years old and prays that one day he will feel the same way about her as she does him.
description
Sloan Sullivan has lived life as half of a man. Events from his past has shaped his future and he cannot fight to change it. But he wants to. He wants the love of a woman that is his whole world, more than life itself, but he knows he cannot or should not have her. Then she is ruthlessly ripped from his world he realizes too late what his actions and silence has lost him. But he will stop at nothing to get her back and try to make her a part of his life once and for all. Unfortunately the horrific circumstances of her imprisonment push them farther away from each other than ever before. Can they get back what was once lost and build a future?
description
Kenna and Sloan had me begging for a happily ever after. Sloan had me pissed off for a while about his hot/cold and back and forth bullshit but he did right by her in the end! I loved how Kenna loved Sloan through everything. She always gave everything she had and always kept coming back. Her character was one of the best heroines I’ve ever read. She was so strong!! Instead of letting what other people did to her take over her life, she made the decision to make herself better and heal.

This story overall was told extremely well. The delicate parts (her imprisonment) were done with more showing than telling. You felt for Kenna and what she went through. You were right there with her throughout her whole journey. Since I read the first two novels in this series, the rehashing of her kidnapping made me feel like I was reading it for the first time instead of feeling like I was reading something completely regurgitated.

This story was told in a whole bunch of ways. First of all it was told in dual points of view from Sloan and Kenna. As well as past/present points of view about how Kenna and Sloan’s relationship came to be. I loved that part of the story; their history together was great to read! All their stolen moments and memories was what kept both of them sane during Kenna’s kidnapping.

Also there were three parts to the story and the mystery/paranormal part of it came to a head in part three. I didn’t really understand the whole emerald and IRA part of the story, I feel like the author kind of left that open ended and unanswered so that the books she writes in the future answer those questions! It kind of just sailed over my head but didn’t detract from the story at all.

All in all this was another fantastic installment of the Indulging series!! :) Although this can be read as a standalone I recommend reading all of the books so you really get to know all the characters! I’m so freaking excited that Brody and Kieran get to have their own novels! I wasn’t expecting more but I’m happy that they are coming!! I am impatiently waiting to see where this story goes and the twists and turns it throws at us.

If you want a heart wrenching tale of being broken down to rock bottom but finding the strength to make yourself better, please come and check out Sloan and Kenna’s gripping love story!

The Kenna & Sloan's story

A heartbreaking story about two broken souls finding and saving each other.

Kenna and Sloan met when Keena was just 16 and Sloan was 24, that was also the day Keena fell in love with him. Their attraction for each other was electric, but Sloan knew that Kenna was too young for him..so he stayed away. For years they danced around each other, but kept their friendship. When Keena was old enough, she made sure that Sloan knew how much she loved him. And every time she said those three words, Sloan always replied with “I know”. That was the best thing he could do, no mattered how much he loved her, he could never let her know. With Sloan’s past hanging over his shoulder, he never wanted to give all of himself to Keena knowing he could never give her everything she deserved. So he decided being her friend, was best.

No matter how much they shared with each other, Sloan never wanted to pass the line with Keena. No matter how much Keena made clear that she wanted to lose her virginity with Sloan, he never wanted to take advantage of her. Yes, after years of being with each other, all they did was kiss and every day they shared with each other Keena always made sure to take a selfie of their time together to send to Sloan after he leaves. So they would never forget how much their time meant to her. And every time he receives each and every picture, he knew how much she meant to him. And how he wishes that he could be the man she deserves, but with his past and future hanging over him he knew they could never be.

 photo SavingKenna-Teaser.jpg

The night when Sloan finally gave Kenna want she wanted, it was the happiest moment of Kenna’s life. And it should have been Sloan, but instead of enjoying that moment he left when Kenna fell asleep, like he always did. When things get tough and too close to his heart, that’s what he does… he runs. Then Kenna is always left to pick up the pieces of her heart.

When Kenna fell prey to the evil that is Marcus Xavier, she went through the most horrific and heartbreaking things and you can’t help but hope that Sloan will find her quick.

When Sloan finally saves her, will he finally give in to the love he feels for her?
Will Kenna forgive him for all the heartbreak that he put her through?
Will she blame Sloan for what happened to her?
Will their love be strong enough for them to survive everything they both went through?

Read and find out.

This is a long heart breaking story about love and lost. At times you just want to smack some sense into Sloan to wake up and love Kenna as she deserves. I really love Kenna’s character, she knew what she wanted way in the beginning and she fought for everything to get what she deserves. She is a very strong character and doesn’t waver in what she wants. She always knew and stays with what she knows and wants. She never gave up on what she wanted. She is very strong, even when it seems like all hope was lost, she never gave up.

Thx for sharing your book with me DL Raver! =)

Saving Kenna is the third book in D.A. Raver's Indulging series. Even though this can be read as a stand alone novel, she intertwines all the other characters from the previous series books. This is a masterpiece of love, passion, longing, and coming home. As always, D.A. has a way of creating a beautiful story with in-depth characters that you can relate to and understand.

Sloan Sullivan has a past that he can't seem to avoid any longer. He has tried to leave his Irish roots behind him and to take care of his family under a guise of another person. Entangled in his own web, he has fallen in love with a woman that he doesn't deserve, Kenna. He has known her since he moved to America and has longed for her since the day they met. But, she is forbidden.

Kenna Campbell is in love with Sloan Sullivan, the Irish bloke who has stole her heart since she was sixteen years old. Now, with unforeseen circumstances threatening to shadow what they have built, she holds true to the one thing she knows for certain, that she loves Sloan with everything she is.

Will Sloan find Kenna before it's too late? Can Kenna finally convince Sloan that no matter what, they are meant to be together? Read this book to find out all the answers.

What an amazing third book D.A. I was captured by the beautiful words from the very beginning and had to keep going until the very end. I was caught up in the story and felt as if I was part of all the things happening. I was blown away by the plot, with the mysterious order and the tragedy of things happening to the family. This was by far my favorite story yet, D.A. Raver!

Hero - Sloan Sullivan 4.5 stars
Heroine - Kenna Campbell 4.5 stars
Steam Level: 4.5 stars

Cliffhanger: No

Would I recommend this book: Yes! This is a beautiful story of survival, love and forever. If you want to read a story that will take you make you cry, laugh, and fall in love all at the same time then this is the book for you.

Would I read other books by this author: Yes! D.A. Raver rocks! She is an awesome writer and has a gift of the pen. I really enjoy reading anything that she writes. I look forward to reading more from her.

This is a tough one to review. I can't say I outright enjoyed the book or it made me feel good. On the other hand, the book was well written and captivating. Although it is labeled as a standalone, I think it's beneficial to read Irelyn/Zolt's books before this one. It runs parallel to Kenna/Sloan's story after Kenna/Irelyn are kidnapped by Marcus. I had wondered what happened to Kenna during that time and this book answers those questions. I was afraid the worst had happened to Kenna and unfortunately I was right. That's why this is so difficult to say I "enjoyed" the story as it's absolutely heartbreaking.

The book is broken up into 3 parts. The first being her time while kidnapped (making up 50% of the book). It's devastating to see this young woman so innocent and full of life struggle to not lose that part of herself or become broken.

The second part is her dealing (or not dealing) with the aftermath once she's back home and how everyone has moved on.

The third part is her discovering who she is now that she can't go back to her old self (much shorter time is spent on this part of the story). I think the 3rd part confused me a little as to who/what Kieran's role is or will be in her and Sloan's life. At one point I thought she was being manipulated and hypnotized by Kieran. Then the next she seemed to be manic and giddy when she decides to become one of them. There's also hints of a mystical element to the story that left me with questions. A future book for Kieran is listed at the end of this book so I'm left with the impression he's not as bad as I thought.

Rachel and Cory also confused me due to their lack of support for Kenna. Her parents were asses and I didn't expect a come to Jesus resolution for them, but I was sad to see a friend and her brother ignore what was happening and not support her in the end. Bigotry (towards Sloan) comes to mind when thinking about this elitist family.

I did appreciate greatly getting both points of view from Kenna/Sloan. It gave me the full picture as to what both were feeling during a difficult time.

Brody's book is next and I'm excited to hear his story!

I received a copy of this story through NetGalley from the author/publisher (thank you!).

My review for Saving Kenna by D. L. Raver
I got the awesome opportunity to ARC read for the third book in D. L. Ravers Indulging Series, Saving Kenna! I have been completely in deep with this series for the last week and a half and I will just say now that I have a MASSIVE book hangover from this one. This book has everything from HOT and HEAVY romance, mystery, suspense, to a total nail biting thriller that will leave you breaking a sweat or two.
If I connect with characters right off the bat in a book then I know I will fall hard for a book. Let me just say, Sloan Sullivan. Holy sweet Jesus. DARK HOT IRISH MAN. That’s all you need to hear. My heart just ached for this man. You get a little bit of him in the first two books. Which the first two are about another couple, Zolt Hamil and Irelyn Wilkes. Love those two as well! BUT, the third is all about Sloan and his long time love Kenna Campbell. Their story is so beautiful and you’re constantly just rooting for these two to finally get a break and come together and be happy. I definitely shed a few tears in some scenes.
I love it when I can connect with the heroine in the story, and I certainly did with Kenna Campbell. She is just so strong, not your typical weak damsel in distress that I most often read in other books. She deals with some very scary things in this book. I just felt so proud of her!
The back story D. L. Raver did was just amazing. Her character development was so perfect and you just really formed strong emotions for these characters. Some emotions not so good with certain characters, you will want to jump through the pages and punch a few of them at times. The emotions were strong all around. By the end you will feel like you took a crazy wild beautiful ride.
You MUST read this awesome series! I can’t say enough good things about it. It has so much heart and soul in it! I am forever a D. L. Raver fan! She is a beautiful writer and person! I thank her for bringing this story to life and its one I will never forget! I’m looking forward to more! 5 STARS!!!! Loved it

**I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for posting my honest review**

This was the first of D.L. Raver's books I've read, and I really enjoyed the story. Even though I have not read the first two books of the Indulging series, I didn't struggle to understand the plot, characters, or relationships. The book truly functions as a standalone, which is nice.

The characters and plot were well written and kept me engaged throughout the novel. The suspense elements underlined everything, keeping me guessing how things would progress. I thought the flashbacks were written superbly, flowing in and out of them without disrupting the rhythm of the story. My favorite part of the novel was the characters. Mrs Raver develops them so acutely that they truly come to life. I loved her characterization of Sloan. She weaved Gaelic, actions, dialogue, and descriptions seamlessly, and I could picture him completely. Sometimes characters don't stay true to their initial portrayal, and that was never the case in this book.

The only things that kept me from giving 5 stars were editing misses popping up in places that caused me to pause or reread sentences. They weren't excessive, but they stood in stark contrast to the polished writing style and word choices, subsequently interrupting the story's flow. Additionally, I wasn't compelled to read obsessively. I really liked the book and loved the characters, but I could be distracted from finishing. That said, I definitely will read more by this author and within the series.

I received this book from the publisher at netgalley for a honest review.

I suggest before reading this book, please read Indulging in Irelyn and Being Zolt. Parts of this story takes place in Being Zolt.

I really liked how the author made a glossary of all the characters from her previous books for this series. I've read both books and I read them a while back, but the glossary helped me out remember who these characters were.

The events that happened to Keena, will destroy her, if she doesn't overcome what's happened to her. She finds a way to be a better woman than she was before, but she has to able to trust herself and the love she has for Sloan to get herself through. She isn't the same woman that Sloan fell in love with, when he first set eyes on her, but he knows that Keena will get through what's happened to her and he has to trust, what she's chosen to do.

**I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads.**

This can be read as a stand alone but I feel it is better to read after reading Indulging in Irelyn and Being Zolt, considering these characters play such a big role in Saving Kenna.

I have enjoyed this series from the beginning. I love being able to see everything from Sloan and Kenna's POV. To see how much she really went through when she was kidnapped. How Sloan fought to get her back. When his secrets are revealed will Kenna stay by his side? I found it to be an emotional read. My heart broke for Kenna.

I was worried about the paranormal aspect but it really played into the story nicely. I was definitely left with more questions than answers. I'm interested to see where this Ms. Raver goes with this, hopefully all my questions get answered in the next one.

I received a copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads. Sloan is hiding his real life from everyone, including the woman he loves. Kenna first met Sloan when she was 16 and knew he was the man for her. After years of stolen moments, Kenna wants more but Sloan can't tell her about his past. It would put her life in danger. When she is kidnapped, Sloan realizes just how much he loves her. What Marcus and Joe put her through was hell and she didn't think she would ever get her life back. Will Sloan be able to help her heal or will what happened to her destroy them both? This story is heartbreaking, dark, and even suspenseful. I loved it and can't wait for more.

This book begins from the view of Sloan, reliving the kidnapping of Irelyn and Kenna from his point of view.
Once saved from the hands of Marcus, Kenna is no longer the girl she once was.
Sloan is punishing himself for leaving Kenna the day of her kidnapping.
Will they be able to rekindle their love and mend their relationship, or are they both to far to be saved

This is the 3rd book in the indulging series.
I have to say I cringed when I discovered this installment was from Sloan's pint of view/flashback from the past. I hate rehashing a story I already read. Oddly rough this ended up being my favorite book of this series.
I didn't quite grasp the whole "paranormal aspect of this book" but I think there will be more to it in the coming book or books, as I have the feeling more is to come.
Looking forward to the next installment!

I have been hooked on D.L. Raver's books since I first read the synopsis for Indulging Irelyn, and she has continued to not disappoint! I have anxiously been awaiting Kenna and Sloan's story and now I can't wait for Brody's and Kieran's.

This was beautifully done. I have read other stories where the characters have endured rape and honestly it was just too much. I understand it is a horrific event but I believe in books it can be done the way that portrays what happened, how the character felt without getting too overly graphic, and I believe D.L. has done that with Kenna's story.

And then how Kenna never gave up on Sloan and knew he was her one. I could feel their struggles during Indulging in Irelyn and Being Zolt, but not until now was it really revealed how much they meant to each other. I wish I could give it more stars, it was just that good!

I was lucky enough to be asked to preview this book for the author. This is my first go round with DL Raver. While I have NOT read the first two in the series, I was able to follow along with the storyline and understood the characters. I am excited to be able to go back and see how the story all started. The story had enough action to keep me completely interested and waiting impatiently to get to the next chapter. While the main characters endured a ton of crap during the story, it wasn't TOO much for them to handle in a respectable manner. It was BAD, but in reality, it was something that could be lived with and I truly love that they were able to realistically rise above it.

Well written, well edited. I really enjoyed this book and will definitely read more by this author.

This is the 3rd book in the series and takes place during and after the rescue of Irelyn. Sloan and Kenna have been in a secret relationship for years. Their love is put to the test when Kenna is kidnapped by Itelyn's crazy ex kidnaps her to sell her virginity. Kenna goes through a horrible experience while being held captive. It changes her completely. It was very hard reading about her experience and the days after. The author did a good job writing about this in a sensitive manner. Sloan tried to be supportive but he didn't know quite what to do.the story takes an turn when kenna gets help from an unexpected source. The whole emerald and Kieran aspect of the story was a little off. Over I enjoyed the writing.

Another brilliantly written book by this author. Indulging in Irelyn and Being Zolt were fantastic reads. I was glued to these books and to be honest I really didn't think the author could get any better. But I was wrong. The author blew me away with Sloan and Kennas story. I really can't describe how I felt reading this book. Alcohol and chocolate was certainly needed. The twists and turns will have you holding your breath or gasping!

I highly recommend this emotional rollercoster of a story. Yet again thur author has blown me away with her fantastic writing.
Keep on writing Dawna as I'm addicted to your stories.

OMG! Loved this book....what a perfect ending to a great book. I was confused in the very beginning with Paddy O'shea.
Kenna went thru so much torture and emotional abuse that took a toll on her. I'm happy that you gave a little
background since I feel like I read the other 2 books so long ago. I found myself crying at 2 different parts. I cant even imagine
How Kenna or Sloan felt. Received this as an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
D.L. Raver did an amazing job as I knew she would! Thank you for another GREAT Book!

I hadn't read anything by this author but this book was a very pleasant surprise. Loved the story and I would have loved it more if I had read the first two books before starting this one(I would have been more familiar with the characters). I fell in love with Sloan and my heart was torn for Kenna. I thoroughly enjoyed the refreshing storyline and added mysteries in this book. Love, passion & drama. Wonderful combination. I will be reading more from this author.
4 Stars from me.

Saving Kenna is a truly inspiring and fast paced book that keeps you guessing throughout! Without giving the story away I would like to applaud the author on the way Kenna's ordeal was written without too much graphic imagery but enough information for the reader to imagine Kenna's suffering.

Sloan was a well written 'mans man' hard faced, moody and unobtainable until it was right for him... Or so he thought!

Kenna and Sloans story will stick with you and truly inspire you to make your life what you need it to be. Hats off Dawna Raver your a writer to contend with!

i do not even know where to begin! this was by far my most favorite book by D L Raver! so much emotion! sloan and kenna's love was true blue to the core. Kenna has suffered more then any woman ever should, despite it all , sloan was still there for her! the trials that their love gets put through made me cry! you will not be dissapointed by this book!!

An emotional ride that I just couldn’t put down. Kenna is hurt by a tragic event and Sloan will do anything to make it right. Can Kenna convince Sloan that they belong together or will something end up tearing them apart. The characters are fabulous with lots of depth and the story is excellent. I loved it

I received a ARC of this book...and was wowed. Kenna and Sloan go through a lot to get their happy ending. There is enough other twists and turns to leave you waiting for the next two books to wow us just like this one. Gotta read it!
