Jackson and Bear. A spree killer awakened. An impending hurricane.

The perfect storm.

His legal troubles behind him, Jackson Clay joins his friend and business partner, Bear Beauchamp, for a hunting trip on Virginia’s Eastern Shore. An opportunity for some “R&R”, it’s supposed to be a relaxing getaway to the quiet town of Chincoteague. But when Jackson and Bear’s hunting guide is found dead, things soon change. The police ruled the death a tragic accident, but Jackson isn’t so sure. He starts looking into the beloved local when a tourist is also found dead in the local wildlife refuge. This time, though, there’s no it was murder.

As Jackson and Bear look into the two deaths, a hurricane barrels up the Atlantic coast, thinning out the local population to Jackson, Bear, a skeleton crew of first responders, and an eclectic group of stubborn locals. To make matters worse, the storm soon washes out the only road to the mainland, and those who have stayed behind are trapped.

Determined to find the truth, Jackson and Bear don’t let Mother Nature slow them down. But not everyone who’s stayed behind wants their questions answered, and as the flood waters begin to rise, Jackson and Bear come to a terrifying the killer is on the island with them.

Their only hope of surviving the storm and the unknown slayer is to keep digging, unearthing long-buried secrets the sleepy town has held onto for generations. Can they uncover the truth before either the hurricane or the killer gets to them?

One thing’s for this is no vacation.

Another winner

It was a solid 3.5 star story. But that very last chapter sold it for me. It showed the very human side of two people who suffer from a sadness that never ends. From circumstances that they couldn't control and guilt because they couldn't control it.
Only truly good people feel that. Those are the ones worth knowing.
Well ended B.C.
I'm sad I have to wait almost a year for the next one.

Especially liked this one. Neat location, weather related and, of course, a bad guy. Even if not at the forefront of the story, you know there are wild ponies, ocean waves, smells and breezes. Sandy beaches, shells and on and on. A hurricane. And Jackson and Bear doing what they do best. Only disappointed that this was the last of this series, #5. The info said there are 6 books, not specifying that the sixth book won’t be available until next year…2027! Blah. Say it as it is.

Another fantastic addition to a series I absolutely love! I’ve read every book, and Safe Harbor is one of my favorites yet. The isolated island setting, approaching hurricane, and twist-filled mystery kept me hooked from start to finish. Jackson and Bear are such a great team, and I loved every minute of this story. I already can’t wait for the next book!

Cyclone season

An interesting one, not a lot of action involving Jackson, you get in the mind of the killer. Bailey continues to be the hero. Few people have bad luck being in the wrong place at the wrong time

Terrible

The previous books in this series have been great. Interesting and engaging stories that made sense that Jackson Clay was involved. This book was absurd and ridiculous. I could barely finish it.
I do not recommend.

So far I've enjoyed all of the Clay and Bear novels, until this one.
This was quite boring really and I had to skim the second half just to finish it.

I'll read the next one tho, it can't be any worse than this one.

2.5 stars rounded up to 3.
