An interesting part 2 in this duet! Enjoy the dynamic between Elliot and Lucian. Lots of passion between these two! Elliot has been turned into a vampire so she wouldn’t die, and she is just not handling things well. Poor Lucien is trying to help, but that is proving difficult. There’s some outside forces causing drama besides Elliot’s troubles as a newbie vampire. Elliot’s attitude can be grating at times, but I like that she has some sass. It was good to have more background on Lucien too; nice to understand him a bit more. Overall, an entertaining duet!

Elliot has tasted his blood which has turned her to a vampire and she should hate him. There are also loves him at times and the more she fights the more she is pulled in. Things from his past will rise its ugly head and she may just be by his side to help him fight his fight for their future. See how it will all go

When I say this book couldn't come fast enough, I mean it with every ioto of every cell! After the gobsmacking events in the final chapter of book 1, I dove into this book the moment I got it. I just HAD to know what Elliott is feeling, doing, experiencing, how she was coping ... and she's not, coping, I mean. She's changed, forever, and that's what blew my mind and hers. She didn't want it, she didn't ask for it but heck, there wasn't much of an alternative. For Lucian anyway...he had no choice, he just had to...The author's portrayal of Elliott's disbelief, anger, uncertainty and horror is 100% credible, her reaction is so credible.
Things definitely are not smooth sailing for Elliott and Lucian in this book, between Elliott's new status, Lucian chastising himself, the mafia still after him, yeah, there's a whole lotta action going on! Golly did I feel for Elliott, her entire being trying to adjust, understand, the uncertainty about Lucian raging through her head, "if he touches me now, will he be the one making my heartbeat skip because he’s manipulating me?" This young woman only wanted to find out what happened to her friend, she could never have assumed she'd be gaga over Lucian nor that she'd be drawn into a very dangerous world. Her entire purpose has been snatched from her. But, when she discovers the truth, a hidden truth, she makes all sorts of assumptions, and we all know, assumptions are the mother of all f*@kups! Elliott is one snarky, fierce yet very vulnerable young lady, the dimensions to her character were exceptionally portrayed. I simply adore her connection to Lucian, and his to hers, and heck did my glasses fog up with the steam!
Oh heck do I love Lucian! He has the most beautiful soul. Ok, yes, he IS deadly but he's not a crazed killer, even as a vamp. He cares, about his people, about order for camps, though he's badassed if it's calls for. He's a complex man, his restraint is out of this world, never more so than with Elliott. I just loved the dual POV, I just loved seeing how his emotions churned in him and I absolutely adore the romance that percolated between him and Elliott. And when he realises she's more than just another woman, my heart wanted to burst with joy!
The author got my knickers in a knot many a time, there were many points throughout this read where my heart was in my throat, my gosh, just the way the plot unfolded with all the action, the allure was beguiling, fully absorbing me into this world. A very fascinating world. A world Ms Brooks handled superbly, giving a twist on vampires that was riveting. She added intrigue and suspicion, heck, I was second guessing myself, if a character was or wasn't pure evil. Like Vittoria, I disliked her arrogance from the beginning, I was convinced she was a bad apple. Was she? Well, you'll have to read it to find out...but, Santiago, a smooth taking, kind of charming vamp, undisputedly sent out alarm signals from the beginning. And muddied the waters big time! Cudoes to the author in capturing all the nuances of each character! She managed to surprise me on numerous occasions, geez, she just had me opening and closing my mouth like a fish out of water with the unexpected! The magmatism of the two MCs is off the charts magnificent, none too subtle and the banter was once more awesome! I loved that Elliott is no wallflower, she was given an excellent voice by the author, and heck did she use it!
This book and series isn't about 'sex with flex', although there is a fair amount graphically and beautifully showcased, this is about inner fears, adaptation, learning to forgive. It also cast a light on how easy it is to manipulate, just a few choice sentences can set off a chain reaction of thoughts, none true, but with a very plausible 'it could be' Once again, Ms Brooks handled the entire narrative perfectly, highlighting the process of thought, playing on insecurities but, as always, she brings the most gorgeous HEA! This duology is a great, spicy and very cool read! I'll even venture to say, my favourite series by this amazing author and I've loved all her books....

A Death So Lovely is a fast-paced, emotionally charged conclusion to the Kisses by Darkness duology and it wastes absolutely no time throwing you back into Elliott and Lucian’s complicated, volatile world.
Picking up after Lucian turns Elliott to save her life, the tension between them is thick. Elliott is struggling with betrayal, loss of control, and a complete lack of trust, while Lucian is barely holding himself together as he tries to help her navigate a transformation he never wanted for her. Their push and pull dynamic is raw, frustrating, and incredibly compelling. The banter alone had me smiling even when everything else was falling apart.
This book moves much faster than the first, and I loved how much deeper we went into Lucian’s backstory. Understanding what shaped him and why he is the way he is added so much depth to his character. And finally getting answers about what happened to Kayla? So satisfying.
The story kept me guessing. I fully expected certain characters (looking at you, Vittoria 👀) to show their darker side, and I was genuinely surprised by how things played out. That said, there were a few threads that felt wrapped up a little too neatly, and I did wish we’d gotten more closure for Santiago.
The romance is very spicy, so if heat isn’t your thing, this may not be for you. At times, Lucian felt more emotionally invested than Elliott, but overall their relationship still worked for me messy, passionate, and intense in all the right ways.
My only real complaint is the ending. While not bad, it felt abrupt, and I kept expecting the conflict to stretch out longer or lead into another book. I think I was craving just a bit more suspense before saying goodbye to this world.
Still, A Death So Lovely delivers high tension, emotional depth, and scorching romance, making it a solid and engaging finale to the duology.

This fast-paced story is the sequel to A Love So Deadly by Harper A. Brooks. A Death So Lovely takes up immediately after the events of the first book left Lucian with the impossible choice to either let his love Elliott die or to turn her into a vampire without her consent. The book opens with Elliott waking to her new nature and realizing what Lucian did to her. Can she ever forgive him for doing the unthinkable?
This series is a fun cross between a vampire love story and a mafia takedown thriller. I love the interplay between Elliott and Lucian as she gives the ancient vampire all kinds of grief. If he wasn’t fascinated by her he would have strangled her by now. Elliott is still determined to find her vanished roommate Kayla and doesn’t trust anyone at VMR, most of all Lucian and his partner Vittoria.
Lucian is a great MMC, a little bit kinky and a lot mafioso. He has his hands full with Elliott’s transition as he battles the factions trying to fill the void left by the takedown of the mafia don in the last book. I love how he is flummoxed by a little ex-human and her effect on him. We also get to see a lot more of the human side of him in this book as we meet important characters from his past.
Elliott has a lot of growing to do to accept her new vampire nature and work her way towards forgiving Lucian. She always surprises me with her questionable choices and the scrapes she gets in, but she is so much fun to watch. I was sorry to see this action packed series come to an end but happy to see her and Lucian get to their HEA.
This book has spice and bondage scenes so people may want to read the trigger warnings before reading the series. This book is for mature audiences only. I read an advance copy and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This is the second and final book for Lucian and Elliott. It picks up where book one left off with Elliott getting shot trying to save Lucian. Then Lucian turns her to save her. This is a very fast paced book and we dive deeper into Lucian's back story which helps us understand why he is the way he is.
I went back and forth between giving this book a 3 or a 4 for two reasons. One, I felt like it was a totally different author that wrote this one as it was more of a smut with a tiny plot unlike the first book. I get that Lucian doesn't have to hold back now that Elliott is a vampire but that was almost half the book. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the smut, there just wasn't much plot. Plus there was so much " I don't deserve her" and "He doesn't deserve me" that at times I didn't want to finish the book.
Which leads me to the second reason, Lucian and Elliott are so busy with each other or deep in self loathing that Harper just glances over the ending. There is this build-up about how much Lucian hates Santiago and that Santiago has been planning to be bigger than VMR for awhile. Santiago tries to burn them alive then poof! Elliott copies some of Santiago's files and sends them to Lucian. That's all we hear about it. Where is the epic battle between Santiago and Lucian? Did Santiago get what he deserved? I have so many questions!
Needless to say I was a bit disappointed with this book. You do get your HEA but there was so much that was left out or glossed over.

A Death So Lovely by Harper A. Brooks absolutely pulled me under in the best way. This story doesn’t just continue the series—it deepens it, darkens it, and makes every emotional thread feel sharper.
Lucian is everything I want in a morally gray vampire hero—intense, possessive, powerful, yet layered with vulnerability that slowly cracks through his hardened exterior. Every scene with him carries weight. You can feel the tension simmering beneath his control, and that push-and-pull dynamic had me completely hooked.
And then there’s Elliott. Her presence adds such an important emotional counterbalance. Where Lucian burns, Elliott lingers. The contrast between them creates this undercurrent of tension that makes the heroine’s journey feel even more complicated and real. I genuinely found myself torn at moments, which is exactly what I love in a paranormal romance.

A Death So Lovely: Kissed By Darkness Part 2 by Harper A Brooks is a contemporary paranormal romance. Elliot must deal with being changed into a vampire. However her feelings for Lucian make things complicated. She hates what she's become and the fact she was given no choice unlike Nell but she also still.has an attraction that her turning seems to have amplified. A true love and hate dynamic.
I enjoyed part 2. It was fast paced and a quick read for me. I enjoyed the dance between Elliot and Lucien. There was also a realistic way in which Elliot dealt woth the change questions amd feeling that were all over the place. I LOVED Vittoria's comment “Be careful, Lucian, that one had teeth before you turned her. She's going to be a monster.” That says it all about Elliott's strength, determination, and of course mouth and attitude. Lucian has his hands full with Elliot. This was a really entertaining and interesting addition. This authour really put us through it at times! There were times I was at the edge of my seat, holding my breath. I was completely pulled into this world and these character , the authour has done such an incredible job with the world bullying and character development. I really enjoyed the unpredictability the authour pulled off! The twists and turns, some of the characters, all of it blended together to form a really entertaining read. I quite like Lucien’s character, the depth and detail into his creation is really great. He is a complex character with so many interesting characteristics, caring, but tough and the dual POV really lets us see that. Elliot is another phenomenal character and understanding her struggles as we adjust to her new life was so heartbreaking at times, and as she processes all the changes to her life, she continues to be her sharp, brave and strong self. This was a great read filled with drama, spice and suspense. Well written and engrossing. I always look forward to what this authour will treat us with next!

Just WOW, this is an intense second half. If I thought book one held a punch I was wrong. Lucy and Monty are some of my favorite vampires. The drama and intensity between them is like no other. The draw they have towards each other is intense. This is a very spicy book and has a few triggers to look out for so be mindful of them before continuing forward. It is a tasty menu though. They feel fated, yet so much happens between them. This book made me want to yell and cry in frustration at times because those two needed to get their business worked out. I can theoretically understand both sides though. There are a great deal of big feelings and they get hurt and it takes some time for them to work through. Read on to see what happens. It can be hard to see which side is the right side to be on. Mafia style vampire groups and mortal dramas aside. I highly recommend this book. The Duet is incredible, a must read.

Welcome one and all to the final part of this dazzling duet.
Get ready for a fast paced, angsty, emotional rollercoaster. If you like heightened emotions then you'll love this 😉. There's also LOTS + LOTS of heat 🌶️🌶️🔥 - soooooo not a slow burn my friends.
Lucian (MMC) + Elliot (FMC) eventually get their HEA at the very end. However we must get through a great deal in between to arrive there. These characters were *beyond* colorful, complex, filled with oh so many layers, and rich story. This dark romance + the characters within, drew this reader in immediately. However, I wish the story was fleshed out a bit better toward the end. It felt like certain story threads either weren't explored or got dropped at certain points? Overall I enjoyed this story so much. It just didn't feel quite complete? I'm giving 4 ⭐, but probably should've given 3.5? I still enjoyed this book though- I was fully in on the journey of Lucian + Elliot. Definitely worth taking a chance on this enjoyable duet 🍷.

Harper Brooks's Kissed by Darkness duology concludes with A Death So Lovely. This book was quick and dirty and a little topsy-turvy. Elliot is a vampire now, and she's not perfect little Bella Swan. No, Elliot can give Vittoria (Lucian's second) a run for her money in the viciousness and anger department. Elliot is now one big bundle of rage, and I don't see the fire calming down anytime soon. Oddly enough, Lucian seems less like the cold vampire he was before; more of his humanity made an appearance. The role reversal was a little trippy.
Most of the book was about the sexual tension and aggression between Elliot and Lucian. Things were complicated for sure. New characters were introduced, vampire politics were still at play, but then the plot twist happened. I couldn't believe it! In all honesty, I'm feeling a certain kind of way about it. Things wrapped up pretty quickly after that. Overall, I enjoyed the ending to Elliot's story.

I had read the first book in this series before I had started my new reading “terms” but had to read this second book. Elliot is trying to face and come to terms with her new reality, and she isn’t sure she can trust Lucian. That is all put to the test when someone from Lucian’s past comes to visit and wants Elliot for his own along with everything Lucian has. The romance in this is very hot, so if you don’t like spicy, stay clear. Sometimes I felt Lucian was much more attached to Elliot than vice versa. However, it’s still a good romance. While not bad, I did find the ending rather abrupt as I was expecting another book for some reason. I think it’s because I like more suspense, and I just automatically expected the conflict to last longer. Fans of the author will very much enjoy this. Recommend. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.

The second part of the Kiss of Darkness duet. Part one ended with Lucian saving Elliot’s life by turning her into a vampire so I was excited to see how the story would continue in part two.
I love the FMC Elliot she was always a sassy, take me how I am character and add in the addition of the change to a vampire and now she’s got vampire strength and bloodlust too and nothing is stopping her.
Lucian is your typical possessive, touch her and die MMC but there’s nothing wrong with that. Loved learning more about his backstory and seeing more to his character too though.
Vittoria proves it’s possible to love and hate a character at the same time. And who knew it, the ice queen actually does have a heart.
Story was good with the mafia esq storyline, spice level was good. Definitely recommend.

This is book two of the Kissed by Darkness duo. Picks up right where book one leaves off. Even though it was short as well, it sure did not feel like it. I felt like I was all over the place. Fast paced and emotionally great read. We get right back into Elliott and Lucians world.
I do not want to give much away but the tension between Elliott and Lucian are tense. He had to turn her to save her life. There is so much Elliott has to deal with. Who can she trust, she has to control herself and dealing with betrayal. While Lucian is trying to help her navigate everything with something he never wanted for her. Honestly I love their relationship.
This is a just a really great read that was so good emotionally, romance wise and a great plot. I did not want it to end, but I am happy with the series.

I’m always a sucker for a good vampire world, and this one definitely delivered. The paranormal elements were strong, and I loved being pulled into that darker, seductive atmosphere that only a good vampire story can create.
Yes, it’s spicy — but it’s not spice without substance. There’s actually a solid storyline woven through the heat, with intrigue and tension that kept me turning the pages. I appreciated that the plot didn’t get lost behind the romance. There’s enough mystery and drama to keep things interesting.
The character dynamics were one of my favorite parts. It has that enemies-to-lovers vibe — or at least tension that feels close to it — even if they weren’t true enemies. The push and pull between them made everything more intense and fun to read. I genuinely liked the characters and found myself invested in where their relationship would go.

This series is delightfully spicy, utterly decadent, and such a fantastic read. One of the things I appreciated most is how deeply you feel everything the heroine goes through. The emotional turmoil never feels forced or overdramatic—it unfolds naturally and rings completely true for her character.

It's been a while since I read a vampire romance that I could really sink my teeth into!
This checked absolutely every single box for me - I vibes really took me back to when I first started reading the genre and everything felt super cool and niche.
The plot isn't out there by any means but it's incredibly well done and the pacing was amazing! Sometimes I feel like these types of romances just cram as much as they can into the novel and this is not that at all!
I love that Lucian saved her by turning her, which in turn caused some issues, but sort of alleviated others.
We get to see old enemies reappear and our couple fight for their HEA!

I was so excited to see this book finally came out. 4 months felt like 4 years with the cliffhanger we were left on. We got some backstory on Lucien in this book, as well as plenty of answers. And seeing Elliot help Lucien take on a blast from the past, without being asked, even while mad at him? Chefs kiss.
The steam and electricity between Elliot and Lucien was clear as day and magnetic. They had such good chemistry, and their spicy scenes were done fantastically.
I was a little sad at how short it was, however the author seemed to manage to give us some pretty good closure even in this short book. And so much came together without feeling rushed or like things were skipped. It was truly well written.

I wanted to love this book, since it's a continuation of the previous one I had high hopes for what was coming next. However, while this book did wrap everything up; it didn't feel like we got all of the information that we needed to really feel like the book was wrapped up completely.
With all of that being said, I really was on the edge of my seat to see what would happen between Lucian and Elliot. I wanted them to work out, wanted them to find a way to each other where both of them felt loved and appreciated. So that did give me the motivation to continue through the book. There was a lot of waffling throughout the book that made their love story a little hard to read. But who doesn't love a HEA.

We are back in the world with Lucian and Elliott. The story continues where book 1 leaves off. We have so much that happened in the first book that was shocking only for us to continue throughout this one. The chemistry between the two of them is felt throughout the story. At times you can understand Elliott’s anger but then other times you wanted to shake her to get her think. I absolutely loved Lucian and his personality and demeanor. The story is packed with action, drama, suspense and mystery. It drew me in and kept me glued to it. I would have loved a little more at the end but I still loved how it ends. Definitely a fantastic read.

The second book in this duet follows Lucian and Elliot after her turning into a vampire, battling hunger, rage, and new instincts. Elliot learns what it means to be a vampire and uncovers Lucian's secrets. There is a lot of steam in this second book, lots of drama and strong emotional responses. It is difficult for Lucian and Elliot to find the way to trust each other. It is a fast read with quick development and twists, focused mostly on the main characters, which left me kind of dissatisfied with the whole situation with Santiago and very little attention to Vittoria, but all in all as a distraction from everyday stress this little escape into fantasy was a nice one.

I started this one really not liking how Elliott was thinking/acting towards Lucian. Then I facepalmed myself and realized that was the point. The shift in her nature, the initial change due to te bloodlust, was very well done. It was fast paced with a great plot and plenty of heat. I especially loved the final chapter.
I highly recommend.

A Death So Lovely is the second and final book in the Kissed by Darkness duet. With the intensity of how things were left at the end of book 1, readers know this book will be a doozy. Now that Elliott is a vampire, changed by Lucien to save her life after she took a bullet trying to save him, the dynamic between the two has shifted. And oh boy, does it get spicy! There is so much heat between the two in this book, and it was great seeing their relationship grow. We still have the challenges from Santiago, but with the two working together, it becomes apparent they are ready to fight for each other. A deliciously and dangerously beautiful duet!

We get even more back story on Lucian and I love it because it helps us understand him more.
