Dear Readers,

The love stories in my family have always been fodder for romance novels.

My maternal grandmother and grandfather simultaneously ran a business together and raised four daughters, long before it was an accepted thing to do.  Grandpa O’Dell ran the gas station and the barber shop; Grandma O’Dell managed the grocery and cooked for customers.  They were true partners and madly in love and parted, tragically, way too soon when he succumbed to cancer when he was in his early fifties.  Grandma grieved deeply but eventually picked herself up, started a new career as a cafeteria chef, and eventually found deep romantic love and happiness again, in the form of a second marriage.

This didn't really hold my interest well. It's part of a series and while it's only book 2, I felt a bit lost on some of the character references. The dialogue used to explain/introduce character relationships seemed forced and awkward for me.
Susie had cancer as a teen and hasn't emotionally healed. She keeps herself busy with work to avoid intimate relationships. She and Tyler are 'crisis buddies' and only reach out to support each other in crisis. That premise seemes odd and it pulled my attention away from the story.
Susie's parents want her to meet a man and live happily ever after so they get her to agree to 5 blind dates. A bit hokey, but I could overlook it. As she goes on the dates she realizes that what she wants has been there the whole time.
There was so much back and forth with feelings in this book and weak reasoning that I didn't enjoy it. Maybe if it were longer some of the issues and character development could have been fleshed out better.
Overall the plot had potential, but 216 pages was not enough to build a great story.

In Thacker’s romance novel, Susie’s family decides to play cupid and the only person she can think of who might be willing to run interference may not be willing. Rancher and vet Tyler McCabe has always been there when she needed someone but Susie isn’t sure he’ll be willing to pretend to be a couple without risking their friendship.

Tyler’s not keen on the whole idea but he refuses to let Susie marry somebody else. This just may be the most interesting Thanksgiving either of them has ever had.

A good Cowboy at Heart love story.
