Dingle Peninsula

Rate this book
"Far and away the best of the many books written about the area.... This book is lovingly rich in information and is not merely an account of what you see when you pass a particular place. Seamed and textured, it recounts history, legend and lore." Many color photographs, along with drawings and maps.

Charming book that I bought on one of my trips in the 1990s, and am rereading because I'm going back later this year. It is organized as something you'd follow while driving around the area, and my only concern is that it might be very dated as the economy of Ireland has changed a lot in 30 years and there are houses everywhere that didn't exist when this book was written. It's also probably not as welcome as it used to be to go through someone's field gate and walk behind their house to look at a standing stone... I plan to pick out a few sections and check them against Google Maps street view to see if you can still get to the things and places he speaks of. I was never focused on the archaeological remains when I was there before, so perhaps I'll try to peek at a few this time.
