For Love & Invisible String

A tragic accident stole my wife from me years ago. Getting back into the dating game hasn't been easy. I like my peace and quiet. Every local knows my story. When I discover my mother has taken a boyfriend after losing my father a few years ago. I make a decision to take a date to the First Responder's Ball in six months. A deadline will force me to dip my toe into the small pool of eligible women in my quaint home town.

As the leader of the town's matchmaking book club, you would think love would be easy for me. Nothing could be farther from the truth. Along with a horrible relationship in my past, the man I've pined over for years refuses to date. I don't have time anyway between my job at the hospital and running charity events for the group.

Recently, the townspeople are getting restless with our successful matchmaking. A few have even begged off our supposedly secret list. The group members agree to continue pairing two first responders despite calls for the meddling to end. What happens when the tables are turned and the matchmaker is set up by an unexpected person?

The Matchmakers' Book Club series are standalone romances with interconnecting characters. This novel is the final story in the series. Each novel focuses on one couple (no cliffhangers!) and can be read in any order, but for maximum enjoyment it is recommended they are read starting with book one.

This is a sweet and poignant second chance at love story. Both Carly and Alden have reason to be wary of love. Carly’s parents are hardy examples of happiness and love as each has been married and divorced and married multiple times. Her own foray into a romantic relationships was a disaster of lies and betrayal. Alden had the love of a lifetime with his high school sweetheart, then he lost her and their unborn child in an accident. In the years since, he been unable to move on, still plagued by grief and guilt.

Though Carly is the head of her town’s book club that not so secretly tries to match couples, with amazing success, she doesn’t believe that love is in her future. The only man she was ever truly interested in dating, Alden, belonged to someone else, and now he mourns losing her. Only recently has Alden decided to try dating again, though he has been disappointed so far. With some sneaky manoeuvring by their family members, Alden and Carly are brought together to work on planning an upcoming charity baseball tournament. Neither expected the sparks and the intense attraction, but decide to take the leap and try dating. They agree to keep it just between them, to take it slow and to be honest with each other. Both are dealing with changes in their careers, tumultuous emotions and doubts as they begin their relationship. Opening their hearts to love again is scary, but proves to be worth it.

This sweet and tender romance has my heartfelt recommendation.

It was my second read in this beautiful series - Matchmakers' Book Club. And so much about first responders private life. Loved this sweet and heartwarming story of Alden and Carly, their pasts, healing and moving forward. So considerate and sweet.
Well written love story, with wonderful characters, community, friends and families, colleagues and, of course, Matchmakers' Book Club. Emotional and engaging.

This was a very charming story to read. Carly and Alden had known each other a long time, but the timing for them was never right. He had dated, married and lost his high school sweetheart and then shut down. Something in Carly woke up his heart again and made him want to try again. The story had friendships, family relationships, and a very sweet romance. I highly recommend.

Carly and Alden's relationship shows how love can transform even the faintest of hearts. Neither thought they would find happiness. He because he had already had it and lost the love of his life and Carly never truly found it. Their paths cross due to some underhanded maneuvering and fate took over from there. This is a well written story that closes out a great series.
