Kelly is a sweet and clumsy beta girl. Her life plans include graduating college with her B.S. in kinesiology and moving out of her parent’s house. Someplace where her brother won’t use up all the hot water every morning. Instead, she finds herself scent matched to an alpha, Sam, and omega, Teddy, at her bosses mating ceremony.
One whirlwind of family outrage later, she’s all packed-up and moving in with her new mates. At least that was the new plan until two alphas from Teddy’s past roll into town looking for him. Trapped together, will they all learn to play nice and get along, or will Kelly have to enlist the aid of Sam’s dog Jake, to help her bury the bodies in the backyard?
The newly formed Pack Carpenter is in for a bumpy ride trying to figure out how to fit all their lives together, after all, building a pack is ruff.
Galadreal Simmons was born at a very early age. She doesn't remember much of at, as she was tiny and squishy. Regardless, after 45 years…she is still short and squishy.
She was named after an elf proving that nerd genes run in her family. It's spelled differently, because try teaching a five year old how to spell that. When she was of an adult age, she had it legally changed to include the misspelling.
She lives in a not overly remote location in the southern United States with her husband, two small creatures that share her genetic material, and a cat named Nyx.
She enjoys reading, avoiding human interaction, and feeding crows in the hopes that they will form a crow army and do her bidding. So far, that hasn't worked out, but she continues to do it anyway—because they might be hungry.
I am never a fan of one of the harem hating someone within the harem. Yeah okay drama, but it’s going to be an issue the second someone gets pissy or cranky then that’s going to get dragged up to hurt feelings. They WILL have relationship problems later on.
Plus the brothers are opposite sexualities and don’t even want to be in the same room with each other having sex. Maybe it’s to negate potential twincest thinky thoughts in readers, but it’s going to be awkward for the characters when the dust has all settled.
I also believe a homosexual should NOT be in a harem with someone of the opposite sex. They belong in a harem of homosexuals so they have all the options, all the happiness, all the sexy times.
But that’s just me.

Okay. Now I really can’t wait for part 2 of this story. I did not read the first book in this series and haven’t read anything by this author before. I know that some of these characters were introduced in book 1 but I really didn’t feel like I was missing anything. Honestly, I almost immediately fell in love with most of these characters. I love the different set up with a male omega, a female beta, and a male alpha. It’s a combination we don’t get often and it makes for such a powerful dynamic. This book was so full of emotion, good and bad, and I became so invested while I was reading. I wanted…no, I needed to know what was going to happen next. I flew through this book while reading. The fact that the chapters are broken up with different viewpoints helped with the pacing and I appreciated knowing what everyone was thinking in the moment when things were happening. I read a lot of omegaverses and this one just gives me something so different and I feel like this book is toward the top of my list of favorites.
I felt so invested in these characters. Teddy is exactly what I want to see in a male omega. He’s big, built like an alpha, enough so that he is at first mistaken for one. He also shows that he can take control of the situation, something very unomega. But I really felt like sometimes I want to cuddle him so hard. His emotional swings are his biggest omega feature. He will go from dominant to whimpering in seconds. Sam is such am amazing alpha. I felt bad for him at the beginning when he talked down to himself so much. He is sweet and caring and wants to take care of the beta and omega. I love that he is this big burly fireman that works with wood and renovates his house, but he can be just as fragile as the others. There are few words to describe Kelly. She’s sweet and innocent. She’s a beta and was never taught about alphas and omegas. I also love that she’s accident prone because it adds to her sweetness.
I didn’t expect to love this book the way that I did. I know in book two we will get more of the other alphas, but in book 1, I loved Sam, Teddy, and Kelly. There are some fantastic spicy scenes in this book and I feel like the author did such an amazing job writing this story. I can’t wait for book two to see where this cast of characters takes us. This was a book I couldn’t put down.
I had been hesitant to start this book, as the author had warned that it was darker than her first book. And I guess it was, but it definitely doesn’t feel dark. It has a great cast of characters, including the initial 3: a male alpha, a male omega, and a female beta, who are so incredibly adorable! I love them!!
Building a pack is ruff, but they seem to be doing alright. I love the unique dynamics in play. It definitely doesn’t feel like your average omegaverse, in a good way. It kept me guessing, and I’m not sure where they’ll all end up at the end of part two.
The only reason it wasn’t 5 stars for me was that some of the characterizations felt a bid off at times. One of the alphas has yet to grow on me. He seems ok from others’ POVs, but reading his internal thoughts makes me want to punch him for being so self centered and oblivious. Hopefully he’ll come into his own more in part 2. But other than some odd internal monologues that just didn’t hit right for me, this book was fantastic and I’m so excited for part 2!!
This book is so very good. Heartbreaking and emotional, but so well written and worth the read.
A lot of Omegaverse books have readily made packs where the omega hits it off and they all live happily ever after. This is NOT that book. The drama surrounding each of the characters in this book is intense. So much heartbreak at times, and some really horrible people in the families of the main characters.
Kelly is the clueless beta, and FMC in this book. Her devotion to Teddy and Sam is pretty much instantaneous and she is the sweetest character. She is constantly just trying to make everything better for everyone. Sam is my favorite, though. He’s a bit older than everyone else and has his own family drama that he’s dealing with. His brother is a grade A jerk and my heart breaks for Sam more than once.
This book is quite the emotional read, but it is such a good book. I can’t wait to see where these characters end up after Part Two.
I read The Purrfect Pack, and completely expected Kelly and Sal to be together, so learning at the beginning they didn’t work out had me disappointed. However, the meet cute with Teddy, and then Sam had me melting. Joseph being a dick, and Brice’s lack of support did nothing to dull the shine on this pack. The emotional pain each character of this pack carries pulled at me throughout the book.
I have to admit that it took me until I was 90% complete with this book to resolve my dislike of Steve, but Marc stepped right up and became new Enemy #1. I’m hopeful that part 2 shows Garrett and Steve growing as alphas, Steve becoming more likable and less of a dick to Kelly, and the entire pack is able to work through their emotional issues to become better and stronger together.
I hate duologies or duets because I cannot stand waiting! But I’m very grateful for the opportunity to read this and cannot wait for part 2.
This story has humor, real affection, and emotional pain. The characters are fleshed out and come across as real. I couldn’t help but feel sympathy for each of them. There are a lot of family issues for all of the main characters with this pack not being what any of their families think is the correct pack for them despite the biological need to be together. The story is complicated but told in a concise way that allows it to be easily followed. It is only part 1 and does not have closure. I can’t wait for part 2.
I’ve never read a book that was so relatably chaotic, and I mean that in the best way. Galadreal does an amazing job of placing you into her characters heads, and oh boy were they my kind of anxiously adorable. 😂
We’ve got great instalove and build-a-pack vibes going on here, which I’m obsessed with. The characters are nuanced in ways that made them feel so real- not your average perfect book characters. I loved every second of this book and can’t wait for part two! These boys better get themselves together, because I, and the rest of the pack, have high expectations!
I freaking loved it 😍 teddy and Kelly & Sam had me giggling, and the way Teddy met Kelly was so cute, but Joseph was a jerk he got on my nerves 🙄 like you need chill out
Stephanie and Sal were adorable
Oh my lord, the spicy scenes between sam,Teddy and Kelly were melting me away 💦💦 and no jealousy that's beautiful to read then Sarah she fiesty one such an amazing friend to teddy
I've never read one where there is a male omega, which was so great to experience
Then comes Garret and Steve. I wasn't sure what I expected from them with the way Sarah talked about them on the phone for a bit
But who I truly hate and dislike is Marc their horrible abusive father. Ugh, I can't stand him the way he speaks to them and about Teddy 😤
Im obsessed with everything about this book. The whip lash of emotion this book brings is a wild ride. It's fast paced but feels like it's forever from the first day. My heartbreaks for all of these characters I just want to cuddle them and glue them all back together! I'm in love with Teddy and Sam. I don't fully understand my feelings for Steve and Garret yet but I can't wait for more. That ending had me STRESSED! I need the next book like yesterday so I know what happens. Imma fight Joseph and Marc!
Building A Pack Is Ruff, Part One, book 2 of The Pack Pets Omegaverse series, by Galadreal Simmons @galadrealsimmonsauthor. Galadreal is a baby author & is a newer author to me.
This was a great first 1 book about Kelly, Sam, Teddy, Steve & Garet! Tropes: Contemporary, Omegaverse, Why Choose, MM, Jake the Puppy, Scent Matches, Male Omega, Female Beta, Male Alphas, Twins, Age Gap, Family Drama & A Cliffhanger!
I'm in love with Sam! Poor alpha has his hands full! The book was an awesome read. Literally couldn't put it down. The disappointment comes in because I can't wait for their Dad to meet Xan and see how the town and other packs react to that asshole
So I still have a few reservations, but I think that's typical for the first half of a duet. Teddy is such a unique omega character, Kelly is clumsy and adorable but also strong willed, and Sam is the ultimate protector type. Jack is a giant good boy who deserves all the belly rubs. Garret & Steve come into the picture about halfway through the book but timeline wise maybe like 3-4 days after Kelly, Sam & Teddy meet. I think I would have liked for them to get a bit more established, but it does mean the relationships are on decently even footing. So far I like eveyone except Steve. Garret won me over pretty quickly but Steve is gonna have to work for it because honestly if I had to describe him in one word it would be Selfish. There's definitely a lot more angst and family drama than we saw with book ones pack, it's bearable to someone who isn't a fan of angst like me and would probably be pretty delightful to those who get more of a kick out of it. Theres also a lot of separate relationships going on within the pack such as Garret only being into Kelly and Steve being only into men, which would be a lot more tolerable if he stopped being such an asshole to Kelly. I personally like my polly/pack relationships more cohesive. Basically where even if everyone isn't together they should all still care for each other without overt favoritism. I am intrigued to see how eveything develops in part 2. Hopefully, Sam can whip these two new alphas into good pack members.
As a side note- I still really hate the covers. I know it's a style choice but genuinely, I have to try my best to not look at it bc they bug me so much. It was a true miracle that I picked up the first book of this series
I love this book. The dad is written as so mean that you feel for the twins and hate them. Then Joseph, Sam's brother sucks. Then Sam is so protective, Kelly is funnily uncoordinated (just like me), Teddy is fierce, Garrett and Steve are like puppies for their respective beta and omega. Although I am not a fan of how Steve treats Kelly.
This book was the best chaos I have read! There is so much going on and I cannot wait until part 2 comes out. Kelly is the sweetest girl ever and to finally have a pack of her own after she thought she'd never have one because she is a beta. Teddy is a sweet male Omega and hello to daddy Sam! I love growly, possessive Alphas! So many twists and turns! I can't stand Joseph! And I hope Marc gets lost on his way to the twins..ugh! Here's to hoping part 2 has a big happy ending and lots of delicious spice!
I really enjoyed this book a lot. I liked that the pack dynamic was different from any other OV book I’ve read. I feel like you’re really able to get to know the characters pretty well even with Steve and Garett coming in a bit later. I’m really excited for the second part. I want to hear more about teddy’s past and I really hope to see Steve and Kelly form some sort of relationship and I just know telling rude ass Joesph and Marc to shove it is gonna feel so mf good.
Building a Pack is Ruff: Part 1 is the second book in the The Pack Pets Omegaverse Series by Galadreal Simmons. I love meeting Kelly, Teddy, and Sam. I love that they love each other regardless of designation. When the other two arrive - I just want to throat pun(# Stephen - I don't like how he's thinking/talking about Kelly. The rest of the pack better shut that down in the next book. It was so good and I can not wait for part 2!
This book was beyond amazing! I devoured the first book and this one did not disappoint that cliffhanger I need the next one asap! A must read if you love omega verse books
I really enjoyed this book. I love seeing packs come together individually. I loved the different struggles that the characters were going through and how they were trying to overcome their differences for their omega and beta. I cant wait to see what happens in the next one!!
I love these characters. I love their individual stories. I cannot wait for the second one. The cliffhanger on this one… I got questions that need answers!!!
If you enjoy omega-verse like I do, you will enjoy this one. This story is darker but is well-written, drawing the reader into the story and allowing me to get to know and understand the life experiences the characters’ experienced. Kelly attends her bosses mating ceremony and meets her scent match Sam and Teddy They hit it off right away but the transition does not go smoothly. Though the beginning was bumpy, they navigate the complexities of finding love, learning to live together harmoniously, and fostering a strong bond of support and effective communication. Then, Teddy’s past arrives into town disrupting their lives and altering the dynamics. I couldn’t help but laugh at some of the absurd situations that unfolded. Yes, there’s laughter, hugs, tears, intense moments, and plenty of love. This captivating story held my attention and that ending has me yearning like yesterday.
Such a great little group, they have each been through so much. Steve is the best. Great characters, great intermingling. I can't wait to see what happens next. Sweet, steamy, sad, funny.
I loved the first book But this one isn’t really hitting the spot. We have a Alpha that has wanted the beta girl for long but haven’t must up the time to talk to her. We have a beta that have seen her self-meeting a beta man.
Then we have the male omega that ben wrong.
The beginning of the book is okay. But it would have been better if the time had been a bit longer when the 3 meets and the EX comes back. And I would like to have a bit more conversation between beta, alpha and omega so they would have at least learned stuff about each other.
The ex then, he is gay and only want the alpha and the omega, he even thinks he will try to get the omega to give up the beta. And that just feels wrong.
They are all scent matches so I mean to first hurt the omega you have been in love with for years because you are too afraid of your father. And then come back and think you can decide that the girl isn’t worthy of your mate. Without even talking to her or getting to know her.
No, it all feels wrong, and I know it’s a book two coming, but this left too much of a bad taste after reading it. The book has a lot of spice but it is to little conversations between everyone.
Ends in a cliffhanger beware! There's a lot to unpack in this book! You have humor, trauma, emotional baggage. Teddy and Kelly are adorable. Sam is such a considerate alpha. Taking on Steve and Garrett after the pain they gave Teddy? I'm so excited to find out what happens next!

Rude. Just rude. But for real I kind of love the element of toxicity that Galadreal chose for some of the characters. It felt very realistic, because with a relationship with multiple people who aren’t all with eachother sometimes people are gonna be jealous and you’ve gotta work that shit out. I’m excited to see more of this pack ❤️
Kelly, a beta, a sweet if not a bit clumsy girl. She has this life plan of graduating college with her B.S. In Kinesiology, moving out of her parents' house into a place where her brother won't use up all the hot water every morning, maybe finding a nice beta boy/girl settling down and getting married. She's not sure yet if she wants to have kids in the future. But, she finds all her plans derailed and her life thrown to the wind when she is suddenly scent matched (something she didn't know could happen to a beta), to alpha, Sam and Omega, Teddy at her bosses mating ceremony.
She spends that night with her new pack falling in love with her new alpha and omega. Of course, she has one phone call with her parents, where she fights for her right to stay and make her own choices as she is an adult. The next day, she is semi-packed up and has started moving in with her new mates in Sam's home.
At least that is until a new wrench is thrown into her new life plans when the two alphas from Teddy's past come rolling into town searching for him. Suddenly, they are all trapped together in a snow storm, and they all have to learn to play nice and get along. Or, are Kelly and Jake, Sam's dog, going to have to dig holes in the backyard to bury the bodies?
It now seems that newly formed Pack Carpenter is having a bumpy ride trying to put their lives together and fit their lives together. After all, building a pack is ruff after all.
I fell in love with Galadreal's writing with The Purrfect Pack, so when I had the opportunity to continue the story with Building A Pack is Rufff, I jumped at the chance. From the first pages, this book had me giggling and laughing. That is an indicator of a great book for me. I knew from The Purrfect Pack that Galadreal had created some fun and unique characters, so I was expecting the same out of this book, and let me tell you, she didn't disappoint.
For this book, we have an entire set of new MMCs and a new FMC, and everything is new and different so, lets just dig in and see who's who and what's what.
Our FMC in this Omegaverse book is the delightful is not somewhat clumsy Kelly. She works at the towns only garage, and she's become a close and dear friend Pack Asher from The Purrfect Pack, so we find her attending and actually being a part of the bonding ceremony. It's actually at the bonding ceremony that she meets Teddy. He's a rare male omega who's a bit edgy/grungy who looks and comes off as an alpha. Even though she is a beta, her scent calls to Teddy, and he knows from the start that she is his, his mate, his everything. And poor Kelly didn't even know that it was possible for a beta to have a mate.
Then we have our other MMC Sam. He's a bit older than both Teddy and Kelly being in his mid 30's. He's always been drawn to Kelly, and he feels a pull to Teddy when he see's them together.
Because of the age difference some don't like Sam's new pack and there's a confrontation at the ceremony and rather then ruining the ceremony, Sam, Kelly and Teddy choose to go back to Sam's house. Once they are all there, Sam takes the leap and invites them both to stay as long as they want to realize that they were meant to form a pack of three.
Intensity happens when twin brothers show up in town searching for Tedding. Garrett and Steve end up at the garage after ending up with a flat tire. Heading to the grocery store, they spot Kelly. Garrett knows the moment that he sees her that she is the one he's been waiting for.
In all honesty, I do love this because while Teddy and Kelly are matched, Teddy also has Sam and now Steve if things work out there. Now Kelly has another person who loves her. It's been obvious that while she's not been pushed out, she has at times felt somewhat like an outsider as she is a beta, and as a beta she never really expected to be a part of a pack in the first place.
I adore how Kelly now gets with Garret the connection that the 2 alphas and omega have with each other and can still have the relationships she wants with her alpha and omega at the same time. I also love how Teddy can finally have that best friend/brother relationship that he needs to. I don't think that he realizes just how important and beneficial that kind of relationship can be.
Kelly is just too cute in all her little mannerisms and just her entire personality. She is such a little mommy in the making, and she doesn't even realize it. She's always making sure that everyone around her has everything that they want and need and that they are all doing OK.
Teddy is such a little alpha in an Omega designation. He is cheeky, domineering, fun, loving, and just a fun guy. He was the perfect contrast to Sams awkward, serious, gruff demeanor.
Steve kind of pissed me off and really got under my skin for a lot of the time. I didn't really warm up to him till closer to the end of the book. The way he planned and schemed to get Teddy back and then to get him away from Sam and Kelly really bothered me, and I didn't like it. He didn't like the way he refused to accept that Teddy loved his new pack and wanted to stay with Kelly and Sam and didn't want to leave. Steve would only morosely accept that Teddy wouldn't leave without Kelly. There was never a thought for Sam or how Teddy felt for Sam.
Garret was just getting creepy with his obsession with Kelly and not giving her any space to be with her pack. His only redemption with his obsession was that while he gave her very little space at times was that at least he wasn't trying to scheme to get her away from her pack, he was willing to join Sam and Teddy's pack if that's what made Kelly happy.
The ending, I have to talk about that. It's a dozy. It ends on a cliffhanger. We have learned a lot and we end with a lot of news and suddenly it's over. I literately cried out when it ended scaring my husband. This book it heartbreaking and emotional. It's well written, well thought out, well worth the read. And it's different and I really liked that.
Not even 2 minutes into this book, Galadreal’s writing had me cracking up. There are indicators when you know you’re about to read a good book—I’m sure everyone has their own “list” of them—but for me, an author getting me to laugh right away is one of my biggest ones. Galadreal is somehow able to create hilarious and distinct characters and as usual, Jacks continues to be one of my favorite characters of all time. Is he one of the MMCs of this book? Technically no but I like to think Jacks is the main character of any room he walks in and definitely worth mentioning twice.
Kelly is our fmc and she works at the town’s car garage and has become a close friend of Pack Asher from book 1 in this series so she’s attending their bonding ceremony when she meets Teddy, an edgy/grungy male omega who seems to be all alpha. Despite her being a beta, her scent calls to Teddy so strongly he immediately knows she’s his. Also at the ceremony is Sam, a slightly older alpha who is very drawn to Kelly and Teddy. There’s a confrontation at the ceremony and the 3 of them decide to go back to Sam’s house where he invites them to stay as long as they want.
!!!!Some spoilers!!!!!
Things get a little intense when two alpha brothers from Teddy’s past come back into the picture…plot?…and they also end up staying at Sam’s house. One of those brothers, Steve, is obsessed with Teddy. They’re each other’s first loves but haven’t seen each other in along time and the other brother, Garrett, knows immediately that Kelly is the one he’s been waiting for all this time. I loved this because while it’s great that Teddy has so many people to love him, Kelly always feels somewhat like an outsider in their dynamics as she’s a beta and never expected to be in a pack in the first place. Though this is only part 1, and there’s still a lot of ground to cover for these two especially, I think my favorite part of the book is Garret intrinsically knowing Kelly is the only woman he’ll ever need or want the same way he would if she were his omega. This gives Kelly that one person she can feel the sane connection with that alphas and omegas have with each other. I also liked that Garret only sees Teddy as a brother/best friend.
Kelly was so adorable in her mannerisms and personality as a whole. She was always making sure everyone around her was okay and doing whatever she could to help if they weren’t. Teddy’s cheekiness and domineering personality (at times) was such a fun contrast to Sam’s awkward/serious/gruff demeanor. Steve’s plans to scheme to get Teddy away (while begrudgingly accepting Teddy would need his beta) had me laughing while Garret’s borderline creepy obsession with Kelly also had me cracking up. This book ends in a bit of a cliffhanger so I’m really looking forward to part 2! As in, I need it now lol
I did read an ARC copy but these are my honest thoughts. Will add some of my favorite quotes later!
