I turned 65 years old in December. I started reading romance novels when I was a teenager. Those novels were Harlequin and similar books where the love scenes were suggestive and always “faded to black” when the couples were about to make love to each other. That’s the way I felt when I got the scene where Dante and Imani had sex for the first time and the next couple of times. Don’t get me wrong because the story was good. But I have gotten used to romance novels that described in detail what the main couple were feeling and doing to each other especially when they are intense. This is a dark mafia romance where Dante is a dangerous unapologetic man who kills to protect Imani. She isn’t a shrinking violet who clutches her pearls when faced with Dante’s world, his violence or his personality. I did decide to continue to read their story and the intimacy between them did eventually get hot and intense which is why gave it 4 Stars (3 and 1/2 is closer). I was also very curious about how it would end.
