While traveling through Canada in 1678, a French priest came across the most gigantic waterfalls he'd ever seen. Stricken with both awe and fear, he began to shake, fell to his knees, and prayed. Ever since, people from all over the world have come to explore among them the daredevils determined to tumble down or walk across the falls on tightrope. Kids will get a kick reading about the hare-brained stunts and will also learn how the falls were formed and how--one day--they will disappear.

Ice built up and blocked/dammed it up that water stopped flowing for a day and you could walk across the dry river bed.
Sadly a woman, 61, went over in a barrel but thought the press wouldn't bother writing about it if they knew her age so she had a publicity manager say she was 40-something. And then when she did it and went to cash-in with meet & greets/autographs they didn't believe it was her because she had gray hair. Sad. Ageism is still alive and well though.
A decent book for kids to learn about Niagara Falls. Each chapter is clear and concise about the topics. They range from the history of the falls, when the towns were first made, the first suspension bridge, and the daredevils that visited over time. It goes on to cover the change over the years, the unusual people that visited and challenged the falls - those that lost and those that won. I liked that it also went into the history of Tesla and Edison, and how alternating current came to be utilized by the falls. Great for anywhere between 4th-7th grade or so. Illustrations and side notes on interesting facts, like the Goat Island Hermit, made it an interesting read.
Where Is Niagara Falls by Megan Stine is a quick but loaded with facts read about the origins of Niagara Falls that spans between New York and Ontario. From its early development after the end of the last Ice Age, she explains the forces at work to make the Great Lakes and such masterpieces of nature as Niagara Falls. There are many examples of the more famous daredevils and the tricks they tried such as going over the falls in a barrel, walking a tightrope across the falls, and some accidental tricks as well. Learn about the early western discoverers and their initial impressions upon seeing the falls as well as the impact of erosion over the years and what the future looks like for Niagara Falls. Nicely researched and written, this book packs almost everything you could want to know about this wonder of nature.
I always buy these books when we travel as a family and read them out loud. And this was the perfect book to read while driving to Niagara Falls! Yes, the reading level is geared towards younger children-- but the content is for all! We always like how much more we know than the museums and locations we visit tell us. :) This one was filled with great stories of how people reacted to the falls and after they were discovered and when they became a popular tourist destination.
My kids are teenagers-- these are quick read, information packed books that take 30 minutes to read!
Short but sweet book about Niagara Falls - from where it gets the water is sourced, development of the surrounding area, and how the water is used, to the daredevils and their (crazy) stunts of the years, to the erosion that will slowly decay the Falls to extinction.
I have visited Niagara Falls in the past, but I learned many new interesting tidbits while reading this book. Now I want to go back with my new knowledge and with a new appreciation.
"Where Is Niagara Falls?" explores the past, present, and future of this famous landmark and tourist attraction. The language is accessible for a young audience, and the content is informative and engaging for readers of all ages. I'm not as knowledgeable about U.S. geography as I should be. This book educated me about the facts of Niagara Falls, while strengthening my desire to visit!
They really need to start updating the books! Written in 2015, but it feels much older.
Less of a ‘where’ and more of a business side to the falls. Would’ve been nice to have more information about their formation and the area instead of daredevil stories.
For a book called Where Is Niagara Falls it seems like you’re expected to already know that!!
Apparently people like to risk their life on Niagara Falls. They had tightrope walkers and a man jumped of a platform over Niagara Falls. Even an old lady went over in a barrel and survived! People are crazy.

I really enjoyed this book because it gave me a lot of facts about where is niagara falls. It talked about where it is and then it also talked about who did these dares over niagara falls and who died doing these dares. My favorite part was one of the dares where a girl went over niagara falls in a barrell. I would recommend this book to anybody who doesn't know where niagara falls is located at.
I liked it. There's a whole chapter about daredevils. You can't do daredevils anymore unless you get permission. One person walked across in 2012, but he was a tight rope walker and he got permission.
