Rosemary Wells is an American writer and illustrator of children's books. She often uses animal characters to address real human issues. Some of her most well-known characters are Max & Ruby and Timothy from Timothy Goes To School (both were later adapted into Canadian-animated preschool television series, the former’s airing on Nickelodeon (part of the Nick Jr. block) and the latter’s as part of PBS Kids on PBS).

Here's another gentle, educational work of fiction where children solve problems about how to get along. Rosemary Wells can grace your library with this book.

Once again, the character kids are bunnies.

Ruby is doing her best to write a story. She's actually using a pencil!
I've heard of pencils. Back in the day, I used them in school. Now, as a big grownup Goodreads reviewer, I have a big bunch of freshly sharpened pencils right on my desk.

Back at the story, Max is in the kitchen along with Ruby. He wants to play cowboy. Ruby can't even finish the first sentence of her story because Max keeps interrupting.

Awesome, how Ruby summarizes what Max is doing in objective reality, beginning with, "I'm trying to write a story, but you keep playing around me."

FIVE STARS for the creativity, and the excellent example of using communication to solve spats.

Miss 3 and I like to explore different books and authors at the library, sometimes around particular topics or themes. We try to get different ones out every week or so; it's fun for both of us to have the variety and to look at a mix of new & favourite authors.

I picked up two Max & Ruby books at the same time as I thought the bunnies might appeal. She didn't particularly like Ruby trying to write a story while Max interrupts and was far more endeared with Max trying to find his lunchbox at school.

My nephew is OBSESSED with Max & Ruby. He has watched every YouTube video he could possibly find with them in it and knows the titles backwards and forewords to the point that I can probably recite them in my sleep.

Bossy Ruby decides she wants to write a book, but precocious younger brother Max really wants to play Cowboys. He keeps interrupting Ruby, she keeps sending him somewhere else to play. Finally they decide to work together.

Definitely recommend for young readers, especially those who happen to enjoy the adventures of Ruby and Max!
