This was a highly enjoyable and thought-provoking read that I strongly recommend to ECE friends. Even though it's been years since I had my own classroom, I was reminded of so many former students as I read Buckley's anecdotes, and I think this book could have strengthened my teaching approaches back in the day.

Buckley strikes just the right note with her book on social/emotional learning and literacy. Part narrative, part application, this text kept me reading. The booklists for integrating s/e learning into the curriculum are on target. Not enough was taught in my pre-service ed classes back in the 80s about this topic, and it is THE most important issue for teacher now as it was then. This book is a great primer for all teachers. The graphics throughout the book that describe the problem behaviors with the strategies will help readers navigate to the parts they need for in-the-moment reference. Buckley is honest and deprecating in her narrative, and readers will appreciate the candid way she reveals her learnings over time.
