Grace has always been invisible, the quiet, plus-size girl at the bookstore who writes poetry no one reads and believes she's not worth noticing. When Kai walks into her world with his leather jacket and easy confidence, she doesn't know what to do with his attention. But Kai sees something in Grace that she's never her own worth.
As new people enter her life, Elena, who teaches her to see her own worth, and Marcus, whose gentle wisdom challenges everything Grace thought she knew about herself, Grace discovers there are parts of her she's never explored. Parts that crave surrender, that find strength in vulnerability, that hunger for the kind of trust she's never dared to give.
But Grace carries scars, some visible, some hidden deep inside, and her path to healing is anything but linear. The desires awakening within her feel foreign and frightening, challenging everything she thought she knew about herself. In a world where trust feels dangerous and her own reflection is an enemy, Grace must learn to separate what others have told her she should want from what her heart truly wants.
When danger threatens to destroy the fragile confidence she's building, Grace faces her greatest challenge finding the strength to fight for the life she's building and refusing to let someone else's obsession define her story.
This is a story about reclaiming your voice after it's been silenced, finding strength in submission and power in vulnerability, learning that sometimes the bravest thing you can do is trust someone else to catch you when you fall.
A raw, honest exploration of trauma recovery, BDSM dynamics, and the radical act of learning to love yourself exactly as you are.
"For every woman who has ever felt lost in her own life and wondered if she was asking for too much or too little."
This book contains mature themes including BDSM/kink content, trauma recovery, mental health struggles, and adult situations. Reader discretion advised.
Grace Under Fire is such a well written story that felt so relatable. Grace, the FMC is lovable and believable as a character and her character arc felt realistic!
Many of her thoughts as a plus size woman are the same thoughts I've had, the same self-deprecating humor and behavior felt painfully accurate.
I thoroughly enjoyed the unconventional family dynamic and the BDSM content was so tastefully taught, described, and explored that the cult-raised prude in me didn't feel immediate shame and embarrassment from enjoying this book!
This book was amazing. The author did a great job of writing seemingly 'taboo' or looked down upon topics like BDSM in such a beautifully well crafted way that I think most women and maybe even men will be able to find some part of themselves in this book or be able to understand how to love/care for their partner better even. It handles various aspects of S.H., assault, body image, self worth, dominant/submissive, stalking, trauma, etc. in such a beautiful and relatable way. It was well edited for the length of the book, having only a few noticeable errors. Overall fantastic and I recommend everyone go check it out.
The writing in Grace Under Fire is genuinely touching, moving, emotional and raw. As the reader I was able to feel every emotion that Grace experienced. It was very eye opening to someone almost entirely unfamiliar with the BDSM community and it was interesting to learn about it with such elegant detail and care. Emily did an incredible job, not only making you feel the emotions but to shine a light on a topic that I was unfamiliar with, without it feeling condescending.
