Surrogate To An Unhinged Mafia Boss 5 by Brickhouse
Blood made them loyal. Love made them dangerous.
Bankston DeLuca has traded his crown for the battlefield. No longer a prince, he's a warrior fighting fiercely for peace, his family's legacy, and the woman who dared to love him despite his scars. Aurmoni isn't just healing; she's reclaiming her identity, reigniting the strength and passion they tried desperately to extinguish. Their bond, forged through fire and tested by betrayal, war, and loss, is unbreakable—but the ultimate test still awaits.
Warlock lurks in the shadows—calculating, patient, and deadly. His motives run deeper than mere power; he craves something more profound, something that threatens to destroy everything the Flame holds dear.
In this electrifying conclusion, love becomes their greatest weapon, alliances shatter, legacies shift, and the price of loyalty has never been higher.
Is this the end they've feared or the sinister start of something darker?
Surrogate To An Unhinged Mafia Boss 5 delivers a thrilling blend of African American romance, mafia drama, and explosive passion that will leave you breathless and begging for more. If you're a fan of rich and powerful Alpha men, gripping pregnant romance, and captivating love stories with high stakes, this is one finale you absolutely can't miss.
Bricky…… This finale was everything. I love how Uncle Clarence showed up for Moni. I think her postpartum also had to do with not having any family mom and dad was dead and she got close to Banks mom and them she died. Him acknowledging that it was okay to not be okay from her only living relative shifted things for her. Aria hands down ate in this book I can’t wait to see how she grows in Warlock series. Braze learned the hard way you are replaceable and it’s step daddy season. Amazing ending
Stressed me from A to Z you hear me?! I almost wanna read Warlock’s series because I just can’t believe yall got my girl wrapped up in his foolishness!!! She needs a happily ever after!!
My one critique is I wish we had solo scenes from the main couple & not as many from side characters lol. Overall I enjoyed my first Brickhouse reads
Did he characters change and shift from Book 1? Yes. Is that bad? Not really.
Did I sign up for an Unhinged Mafia Boss × Surrogate trope? Yes, Did I get that? Sorta. I mean, I did, but is Banks really the Boss? Well, no, and Moni isn't really technically a surrogate. Some of the different characters' history feels rewritten in this book because emotional beats shifted. This book is set up closer to a Romantic Drama or Suspense. It's a Mafia Soap Opera with Romance as an undertone but that's also why the romance arcs feel a little abbreviated and stilted. Romance is sometimes sacrificed at the altar of drama.
The Series Journey Rereading Book 1 will show just how far all the characters went, but impressions from Book 1 to now are different. None of that is bad off the start. Characters should grow but the beauty of a romance is I have a groudning to how the romance will inform the character's growth. Even though Banks and Moni were dealing with heavy after effects of the dramatic actions, they didn't feel centered (which I was ok with). So that allowed focus to shift to others. But they also haven't felt like the main attraction since Book 2-3. So come for a Mafia Boss story, but stay for family soap opera drama.
Character Arc Moni and Banks felt more like the side characters. Some character storylines concluded too quickly once fresh drama was introduced. It felt like each character's motivations from Book 1 had drastically shifted, which isn't necessarily bad. It made for a high adrenaline fast-paced read. Mannnn can Brickhouse write the hell out of suspenseful action and heavy drama. We can feel the weight of heavy choices. Watching how Aria change was fascinating, her glow up was amazing but I still yearned for that mafia boss romance promise from Book 1.
The Conclusion So, as always, the smut was good. Some series favs got got. Some stepped down. Some got new new close to the end. Some changed gears. The soap opera concluded and now we have Warlock. Warlock was a brilliant addition. Even though he shifted the tone of the story, he also saved it. He's funny with dry sacrasm wrapped up, "gliding like the WWE Undertaker but with locs" style shine . He says what we were all thinking bluntly and he gave not nary 1 fuck. He's the reckoning come to collect. He's intriguing and enigmatic. He has chemistry and really carries himself with mystery BDE. Most of all all the the things that were threatened in earlier books, he gets done. Almost like a snap of his fingers. He ushers in what feels like phase 3 of this universe (Savant/Ze were phase 1, and this series was phase 2). Everything about him is pitch perfect, but did the story as a cohesive unit feel complete? 😬 It felt a little drawn out in parts (like did we really need that other character or 3), some parts felt like drama was revved up instead of winding down (did that person need to be introduced just to fizzle out into nothing) but some parts were sped up (did we need that persons backstory if they were going to be dunzo so soon). It felt like Banks and Moni were sidelined in Books 4 and 5 to make space for all the additions who were popping on page from Jury to Warlock & crew. Some characters were dulled a little bit like Grimm and Drea. Some characters felt like a touch "one too many" (Grimm's wife & son, Aria's lameo love match from Book 4). It also felt like even though I read it quick that there was a pinch of something I wish was there. There were lots of great funny scenes and dramatic moments, but as a cohesive, I was left wondering, "But was it needed?"
Ultimately, I did enjoy the ride! Because Brickhouse knows how to deliver the action in high octave. It was all entertaining.
This finale was everything. All kinds of secrets were revealed! I was clutching my pearls and picking my jaw up off the floor. I couldn’t put this book down. I so can’t wait for the spinoff now! I’m so intrigued by Warlock I know I know!
This series was so frustrating. Messy, yes but there’s nothing more irritating than when you’re supposed to have these hardcore cartel members who are feared… and they do nothing. There were a lot of threats, huffing and puffing, and clenching of jaws and fists. 🙄 Savant and Warlock were giving The Flame the business, and they got the daddy… with everything that was done. It seemed like everybody but his girl forgot about Tae. It was just so, ugh. It wasn’t bad, but it felt like a bunch of people in relationships with people they don’t like, but won’t let go of, all acting like immature fools in the process. It took five books for them to mature, and by then, I was so disconnected from the characters that I didn’t have any favorites except Malynne (who was a child and more mature than all of them), Azusa (who is a dog), and Warlock, because, well… if you’re the big bad wolf, act like it. Oh, and Uncle Clarence.
Note to self: Warlock has a series next. You don’t really feel the need to continue. While he was the only one actually handling business, you don’t want to sit through the back and forth with him and his bride.
Quote: “I was ripping men’s teeth out with pliers before you knew how to tie your bandana.”
This review is bitter sweet for me because this is the FINALE of one of my favorite series of 2025. Brickhouse has literally done it again and is an auto read author for me, because she DOES NOT MISS! Before we get into it, STOP right here!!!! This is the 5th installment. You will need to go back and read all of the craziness from books 1-4, before coming over here to book 5. There are characters in this series that have their own books, so wth read those too for good measure! You will not be disappointed at all! DISCLAIMER: 95% of the things I read have a trigger warning/spice and I love it. Protect your peace and mental health at all cost!!!
So let’s get into it……Like all of my reviews, I won’t spoil it for you, but we resume in the sort of the after math of all the chaos in books 1-4. Don’t get me wrong, there are still a bunch of things that have happened throughout the book, but you are able to feel the tone of this book shift to more of a finality which I loved. (Sometimes when I’m reading series I still have unanswered questions or it doesn’t feel like a true ending) That true ending is just a testament to the writing style of Brickhouse. All I can say is, I am currently living in my own delusional world because of these characters. 😂 We of course still have our FMC and MMC Aurmoni and Banks. When I say their love can’t catch a break!!! I have always admired the love written between them and it is only amplified by the emotional ending or new beginning they experience. (I definitely had the wine and tissues for this read🍷) Our favorite supporting characters have become main characters for me in the grand scheme of things, and I love that for me and you. These characters were written just as strong as our FMC/MMC, so trust you will be just as engulfed in their lives.
In book 4’s review, I talk about the intro to the different factions in the series, so it’s only right that book 5 would give us more detail and ultimately become a segway for greatness. (Just know that new character with the magic is already spoken for so leave him be 😂but fr though 👊🏽) This installment is culmination of more betrayal😂, awareness, family secrets coming to light, resetting, strength, and everything in between.
Brickhouse did her big one with this series and book 5 is another hit in her catalog. My favorite thing about this writing is the character background stories and development. This is exemplified in my favorite character from the beginning Aria!!!(IYKYK❤️) If you love your characters growing and developing this is the author for you. Her writing style is always top tier with her touch of originality and purpose. Overall, this is a must read, BUT I’ll say it louder for the people in the back!! Read and reread the last 4 books before you read this book!
You will love this book if you love plot, family secrets, betrayal, growth, and of course this genre.IYKYK!
Rating:⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (based on my own delu lu scale) Spice:🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ (based on my own delu lu scale)
Never did I think Savant Torres would tuck his tail, run, and end up folding like Laundry. Savant blamed the Black Flame for the death of Angel but if he was being real with him. His father started that war being underhanded. I'm glad Warlock let Felonee and her daughter leave. Even after the beef ending with the Torres. Black Flame still had chaos and war amongst themselves. Braze was mad asf because Nyelle chose Jury. She chose peace. Instead of continuing to deal with Braze toxic, loud, wild, emotional unavailable ass. It hurt him to his core but that was his fault. He played with her for too many years. The ugly truth about Grimm betrayal was out. Bank or Aria didn't take it to well. They realized their mother lied to them but with Isobella deceased. It was nothing they could do. Giovanni was beyond hurt but he was innocent either. Two wrongs don't make a right but evidently Isobella knew about him and Solei. While Bank was trying to recover from getting shot and having a kidney transplant. He recognized that Aurmoni was dealing with postpartum. One thing I can say about Bank. He set his own healing and health to the side and showed up for Aurmoni. Dante was still grieving the Lena death as well as her betrayal. Giovanni getting arrested was shocking but it also showed Warlock didn't come in to clean up the Black Flame. He came to conquer and destroy. Warlock obsession with Aria was a little creepy. I'm still on the fence about his character because I didn't like the fact he low-key manipulated Aria into marrying him. Especially when he showed her them files. Warlock have a story of his own to tell though. He only gave bits and pieces of his past but it was dark. The part's he did tell. Clarified why he's so dark, don't like to be touched, and is always on demon time. When Warlock went after the Federal Agent Rhys. I was sick to my stomach at what he showed that man wife. As crazy as it seems. Aria crazy matches Warlock. He knows that Aria ain't nothing to play with.
Brickhouse delivers an emotionally charged and action-packed finale in Surrogate to an Unhinged Mafia Boss 5—a breathtaking blend of blood ties, unrelenting love, and ruthless legacy.
This final installment picks up the shattered pieces left after Grimm's jaw-dropping revelation in part 4—that he is, in fact, the biological father of Aria and Bankston. That twist alone adds a whole new layer of emotional complexity to the story. What truly shines, though, is how the characters navigate this upheaval. Despite the truth, Aria and Bankston never turned their backs on Giovanni, proving their loyalty runs deeper than DNA. That moment stood out as a poignant reminder of what makes family: not just blood, but choice, honor, and shared battle scars.
The flashbacks were perfectly woven in—offering context without dragging the pace—and gave the story a sharp edge of raw vulnerability. Grimm’s arc came full circle, and it was deeply satisfying to see him not only face his past but stand tall in it. Dante’s growth was another highlight; seeing him find peace was like a calm after a long, violent storm.
But it’s Aria and Warlock’s tension that leaves you breathless. Their dynamic is simmering with danger, betrayal, and unfinished business. Her sacrifice, her strength—it was a full-circle moment watching her step into her own power, not just as someone’s daughter or sister, but as her own woman. Warlock may have lurked in the shadows, but Aria stole the light.
Brickhouse masterfully ties up the major storylines while still leaving enough open to make us hope for more—especially when it comes to Aria and Warlock. This isn't just a love story or a mafia tale; it’s a legacy wrapped in passion, pain, and purpose.
If you love emotionally intense characters, high-stakes family drama, and mafia romance with heart and grit, this finale delivers. It’s explosive, tender, and unforgettable. A near-perfect conclusion to a powerful series.
This wasn't an ending, but the tying up of loose strings to start anew. Sometimes, you have to burn everything down to be "born again." When book 4 ended, we were hit with strays from every direction. Moni went into premature labor, Banks was in between life and death, and the biggest secret of all was revealed. Now, we're navigating the truths, the lies, and the aftermath of The Flame literally going up in smoke. Y'all... Warlock is so unhinged that he walks around Houston in a trench like its not always about to break 100° and he don't walk, he floats. The Hollow definitely has tabs on The Flame, but War's obsession with Aria is what sets everything in motion. He doesn't coddle her like everyone else has, he gives her the raw, and she matches his flame. Aria is the savior this time around and everyone has to respect it! I loved that everyone had their own battles to overcome and everyone had their "come to Jesus" moment. Bank noticing Moni needed help before she realized it was a moment for me. These two came so far in their journey. Even Gio, I was happy with his growth too. Bella wasn't innovent, but he wasn't either. Dante is finally putting himself first. Braze finally got some sense, and hopefully Tae is healing, healing from whatever Savant did to him. I can't wait to get my hands on what's coming next because War and Aria...whew, the world not ready! Happy Reading Y'all!💋
Whew……….Ms. Brickhouse done took us on one hell of a journey!! The way this series ended………pure chefs kiss 🤌🏾 Now, my thoughts: Aurmoni & Bankston: I swear I kept reading this book because of them!! I wish it was more of them in this book but I do understand that other characters needed their stories told too!! But whatever………..having children myself, I never been through postpartum and after reading this, I wouldn’t wish this on any woman!! But my man Bank held Moni down like he should’ve!! Savant, Ze & Layla: Ooop 😂😂😂 A lions meal!! Bout time!!! Grimm, Gio & Solei: Just grimy!! No words!!! SMH but knocking boots on the grave?? Diabolical 😂😂 Braze, Jury & Nyelle: Offset twin still crashing out while Jury pounding Nyelle through the mattress!! He got what he deserved!! But I’m glad he matured enough to move on and stay the hell away from Kalani!! Homegirl was touched in the head!! Dante: I hope he finds his peace!! That man still hurting over loose-cooch Lena!! Now…….Aria & Warlock……..I DID NOT SEE THAT COMING!!! But I’m definitely here for it!! This is definitely gonna be a love story that I wanna watch unfold!! Can’t wait to see what’s next…………
As soon as he stepped on the scene in book 4, I shook. Warlock has a presence and he sees ALL. Love at first read. Bricky got us good with this one. Lawd knows I’ve been holding space for our girl Aria. Hoping she would find someone who would SEE HER! With everything happening in the DeLuca clan. With the Black Flame scrambling to survive the war…Bankston down, fighting for his life, Aurmoni fighting to deliver the twins, Gio fighting to survive grief and the ultimate betrayal, Braze fighting to accept accountability and stand as a man, Jury fighting to see love through AND be a brother to another flame with compassion and understanding, Dante fighting the ghost of love and swallowing the pain of that love’s deception…don’t even get me started on Grimm. Because man…WHY?!
READ. THIS. BOOK!!!!
Warlock came in and leveled the playing field quickly and swiftly. All while sliding right under the radar…right into a set of panties no one expected. 😏 I am sat. I cannot WAIT for Warlock and the Queen of Flame to shake some shish up!!!!
👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 Great job Brickhouse!!! Extremely proud of you. Your mind is a wicked fun place. 😉
This series was great it went out with a bang. Warlock was telling everyone’s business like a family member at thanksgiving. I think warlock deserves love and a chance to be loved properly. Bella was trifling I don’t feel sorry for what happened to her body at the funeral. I still wanted grim to find happiness just like Gio they all did wrong. The Braze situation is an eye opener because a lot of these men really don’t love the woman he goes out his way to sabotage her dating life and control her happiness. They play in your face but a lot of women would lose out because they would go back to a man like braze just because they have a child or children together and he showed he changed a little bit. A lot of women deserve a real man like jury now that’s how you boss up on a man that treats you less than. Great series
Wow Brickhouse Another great Read!! Off this series..this last chapter of Bankston and Moni and the crew was a bang a page turner I couldn’t put down..Arial Always been the queen that never had a chance to win and sit on her throne, the crew or her Father Gio never acknowledge.. her king of Hallow flame Wedlock made sure she sit on her throne now and Queen Arial together their story is going to be unhinged but mysterious and flamed 🔥she is his Queen and really is fire for flame and her crew , and peace for him the man behind the black long leather jacket pants with killer eyes is a man Wedlock.who needs love who had his own past he was dealing with Being molested as a kid is one of the reasons why he didn’t trust all females . Arial was the one for him.I can’t wait to read Wedlock’s story with Arial..
You must read the first 4 books to understand this book.. This was my first series by BrickHouse, and I am so glad I started here! I was about to dive into Warlock, but her suggestion to start with this series was on point. Let me tell you—this isn’t for the faint of heart. The writing immediately pulled me in, captivating my imagination with every scene. I never had to guess at what was happening because everything was crafted so clearly and vividly.
The character development was flawless, and every detail of the plot felt intentional and perfectly executed. I loved how well-rounded the characters were and how the tension and drama kept me hooked from start to finish. I’m obsessed with this series—I’d even watch it as a movie if given the chance! Now, I can’t wait to start Warlock and hope it turns into another epic series.
Denise’s Review of Surrogate To An Unhinged Mafia Boss 5: The Finale
This book lived up to the last four. Excellent book to read with an excellent storyline that follows the first four books of the series. Banks and Moni, with their twins, are survivors. Gio is the boss, but now he has two more lives to protect. The feds arrest Gio; will he get out, or will he spend his time in prison? Will Savant get what’s coming to him, or will he and Ze live on the run? Warlock is coming for what’s his Aria? Warlock gives Aria an ultimatum. Read book 5 to see what happens between Warlock, Aria, The Black Flame, Banks, Moni, and the other characters in the book. You will not be disappointed.
This work was worth the wait and entertainment and in the flame it was a combination of everything good bad and ugly and in the end, steal a family each person went through their own personal struggles ups and downs, but they still stood 10 toes down for each other. I can’t wait for the next chapter of aria and the bogeyman series to start thank you for such an interesting book and more books and more excitement and joy. I loved it the characters the writing the cover everything keep doing what you’re doing and bringing us these wonderful stories
Ok, something happened along the course of this series, and the end product seemed totally disconnected from the first book. When Savant met with his glorious and well deserved demise, the series seemed to come to a screeching halt...and new characters were introduced. Warlock? What's his last name? Bankston cried through the entire book. I don't think he even threw a punch. Uncle Clarence was a hard-core OG, and told the painful truth! 🤣 It seems that the original premise of the series got weeded out. BUT IT STILL GOT FIVE STARS!
I’m new to Brickbouse, but I’m here to stay! For this to be my first read by the author I am kicking my own tail for not picking it up sooner. The way she made the surrogate trope her own is one I haven’t seen before! I’ve read plenty of surrogate themed books and that was what the plot revolved around. This author though…. It just opened up the door to another world that took us on a wild ride! Secrets, betrayal, loyalty, mental health, grief, so many things touched on throughout the series. I loved this series DOWN!
Omg this serial was off the changes! I have read a lots of books but this ones here was the bombs. Every pages was action, drama, unpredictable. Backtson an Monk love stories were the greatest.Savant what can I say he was truly believer of his vowls, tile death us apart.I wanted give up to much Intel. Please read I promise u it will keep u wanting more. Excellent job !!!!
Having just experienced this author's work for the first time, this series has truly solidified my appreciation for her writing. I thoroughly enjoyed all five books in this series, finding the characters to be exceptional and the story itself brilliantly crafted. As always, it leaves me eager for more. I eagerly anticipate reading many more of your books. It has been a genuine pleasure to read your work. 🥰
I loved this whole series but I never saw all these twists and turns The questions were answered whether we liked the answers or not. These characters really lived in my brain for all these months and I think for the most part everyone got a happy ending or something close .I can't wait for the next series Warlocks story .
From book 1 to book 5, I can't get enough. I wish this wasn't the finale but I guess we have to wait for Warlock time. And I know that'll be something serious. I love your books and out of my authors I've read, you're the best and you kept it coming. Thank you. You did a wonderful job.
THIS BOOK! A TIME WAS HAD! This book had the perfect ending. I had been anticipating this book but almost afraid for it to end. Bank loves "His Aurmoni" and his legacy however he had the misfortune of dealing with a unknown fact about Bella and she was not available to answer. Aurmoni was dealing with postpartum depression and this was a hard part of the book to read. People don't realize how postpartum affects each woman differently. Savant maybe you should have bobbed and weaved and Gio - the BIG GIO not the little one. Aria and Warlock is the couple to watch and I CANNOT wait for his book. I love how Aria came into her own and how she made everyone realize her power. It was TIME for Aria to let them all know that she has been there for them all and helped or solved when they could not.
To the author Brickhouse, a job well done. From book one through five, you kept the fire burning. Kept me hooked. Kept me intrigued. Never a dull moment. I could not to put it down. I saw every person, felt every emotion. It was like watching a movie. I laughed, I cried, I held my breath, I prayed. I felt it. I wanted more. Great book.
This book had me in suspense from series 1 til the end. Never dull kept me wanting more. I had sleepless nights staying up reading because I couldn’t put it down. It was all worth it now I’m ready to see what love 💕 story Warlock and Aria going to have everyone deserves a happy ending. Qween Brickhouse you are awesome. Keep shining in your purpose and talents.
The whole series is good. Brickhouse did excellent in making the characters have real emotions. I really like how she touched on postpartum depression and trauma. I didn't expect Aria to have the ending she had. I just knew Moni was going to be the next Don how the writing was craved out on part 2.
Ten stars across the board dam good way to end a series I’m glad moni got the help she needed and banks stood ten toes down for her as did for him but I’m sitting on the edge of my chair waiting for aria and warlocks story please don’t let aria get pregnant lord knows what might happen lol see you soon
Brickhouse’s pen game is LETHAL. Aurmoni’s story line drained me. It literally dragged but overall this series was everything it needed to be. Warlock was the icing on the cake & I cannot wait for his series. I want Aria to fall so in love & live the boss b*tch life she deserves. This last book had me on edge but it came full circle.
Man this series took me on a wild ride and I love every bit of it idk if I’m ready for warlocks damn series that is one scary ass sexy nigga and ik him and Arie are bout to be something else but im here for all of the drama good bad and ugly but beautiful at the same time. Keep these good books coming and I promise u will keep me as a fan.
