Would y'all believe this is my first time EVER reading an RL Stine book? I know. I feel like a disgrace to my inner child, my love for horror stories, and the literary community in general. But I so thoroughly enjoyed my first endeavor into the world of Fear Street and it's colorful cast of characters. I need to get my hands on more of RL Stine's works... and quick!

3.5 stars. No need for a full review. You either love R. L. Stine's cheese factor, or you don't. Lol. This two in one definitely took me back to my Goosebumps/Fear Street days. It was a major page turner with cheap thrills and corny teenage hormones and plot lines.

Did I expect this to be good? No. Was I correct? Of course. I read this for nostalgia. Will I be reading the next one? Of course.

The best way I can describe this book is to call it an appetizer. I liked it, it was good. But it is YA horror, so some of the darker elements were held back somewhat (because of its intended young adult audience.)
Both stories in the book were good. They were interconnected, taking place in Fear Street and the main character in the first story makes a cameo in the second story. It was neat.
As a horror veteran, having read Stephen King, Joe Hill and Peter Straub, this book did not scare me, but it did intrigue me. It kept me asking "what's next?", and turning the pages, as a good story should.
Pick this up if you're a fan of R.L. Stine or you want a quick thrilling read. But don't go in with high expectations. Again, think of it as an appetizer.

Party Games was the first, and my favorite of the two stories. This one had more of a Halloween vibe and was definitely spookier. It was pretty intense, these kids are dicks. 😂 I would’ve punched somebody, that’s for sure. Remind me to never hang out with a Fear. 😅 This one was just okay. I’m not really a fan of “creature” sightings, so this wasn’t just didn’t really hit home for me. It wasn’t as creepy and not very believable with how the adults were acting. Everyone seemed rather idiotic. It was still a fun and spooky read, though.

Both stories are fast paced and fun. So, if you’re looking for a mildly spooky YA book, this one’s for you! You can never go wrong with RL Stine.

It was pretty okay, I mean two books for the price of one, but the first story, "Party Games" should've been longer with more detail. More backstory for Rachel, build up more to the horror, it felt rushed and like it was missing so much.

It builds up to make it seem like Brendan Fear is a killer, and it turns out to be a huge prank after everyone sees these actual dead bodies, and then Rachel and Brendan are suddenly kidnapped and her abusive ex Mac is in on it but tries to save her and he fakes his death??

And then two officers mysteriously show up and arrest Mac, his dad, and the third accomplice but the officers are actually actors?? And then Rachel WILLINGLY starts dating Brendan after he traumatized her and a whole other group of people for fun??? 🚩🚩🚩🚩 And then had the BALLS to say "Now I have one major problem. What am I going to do for my birthday next year??", implying that he's gonna pull this kind of stunt AGAIN and she's still kind of dating him??

Wake up and smell the fake blood, he's NUTS! Even after everything, and after Amy saying he still plans to do fucked up stuff like that, she's still got a crush??

And instead of ditching that fugly jacket from her aunt, this dumbass goes BACK to Fear island with Brendan to get it, goes ALONE into the house and sees the REAL Victoria Fear, a ghost, wearing her ugly tangerine jacket?! And then when she freaks out, Brendan is like, "Come on, Rachel. You don't believe those crazy stories—do you?"

I'm sorry but if I'm invited to go to a birthday party in October by a boy named Brendan FEAR and the party takes place on a remote, deserted Island with no access to the rest of the world at all, called FEAR Island, you better believe that I am not going there.

Rachel literally says that she's a chronic horror movie fanatic but is still stupid enough to go to that place anyways?? After being warned by two separate people not to go? Yeah....this story was ahh 🥀🥀

--------------

The second story should've also done the same. It should have given more information about Lisa and her family and friends, her life before moving to Shadyside, so on and so forth. And then the end was a whiplash.

It jumped from the police not believing her, to the therapist being in on everything, and Lisa getting a confession from her with the police on a FaceTime call in the waiting room of the therapist's office? It feels rushed and like a chunk of the story was missing.

After Harry transformed and attacked her, Lisa went to see her therapist the next day, who tries to send Lisa to a mental hospital like she did to Joy, and suddenly the police had believed Lisa enough to come down there and sit in the waiting room on a FaceTime call while Lisa provoked the therapist into a confession, but how did she convince the police to do that?

Captain Rivera didn't believe her literally one day ago and now suddenly does?? How did they go from not believing her, to willingly sitting in the waiting room of her therapist on a FaceTime call??? Like major plot hole, I want to know what happened between the attack, and her getting the therapist caught!

And then Harry, after moving away with his mom, suddenly comes back, but his name is Sam now and has the same looks and memories and asks Lisa if they want to be friends and stay up late?? That shit makes ZERO SENSE.

TLDR:

Both stories had huge plot gaps that made no sense, both stories were rushed and missing a lot of information, and the twist of the first story made zero sense either, also, Rachel is dumb as hell. I love R.L.STINE, but dude c'mon.

Overall: 3.5/5 stars
Party Games: 3/5 stars
I would have preferred this if it hadn't all been faked. If there's one story trope I can't stand it's the "It was all a dream" or "It was just a game" bit. That always annoys me. I also somewhat saw it coming. So a little predictable. That being said, .

Don't Stay Up Late: 4/5 stars
This one was so good. I was afraid it would be another one of the "It's all in their heads" trope but I was pleasantly surprised. And Stine does a nice job of turning your brain different directions with trying to figure out who the villain is. Almost instantaneously I thought I knew who it was. Then the crimes started happening I thought it was someone else, but then it turned out I was right the first time! I should have just gone with my gut, knowing Stine wouldn't make it overly obvious. Still great though! Always love false predictability. Totally messes with my head.

Also somewhat made the mistake of finishing this story at night when going to sleep. I was waiting to leave off on a slightly less creepy cliffhanger chapter ending so I could go to sleep more easily, but no! It was literally a creepy cliffhanger ending of the STORY ITSELF! No getting away from it. So I resolved to watching something more lighthearted on YouTube before going to sleep, heehee.

Fear Street Super Thriller by R.L. Stine includes two stories - Party Games and Don’t Stay Up Too Late. In Party Games, Rachel Martin begins to have a crush on Brendan Fear and gets invited to his birthday party on a secluded island known as Fear Island. While at Brendan’s birthday party there are many different party games, however one simple and fun scavenger hunt turns into a deadly game that Bredan’s guests must be able to survive in order to make it off the island alive. In the second novel Don’t Stay Up Too Late - Lisa who has had a very traumatic experience has been faced with nightmares as well as hallucinations. All she wants is to return to the normal life that she had before the terrible accident - starting with returning to school and getting a job as a babysitter. However, when her new babysitting jobs turn out to be on Fear Street everyone around her begins to warn her of all the strange and mysterious things that occurred there. In desperate need of money Lisa still takes the job, but when she still sees things that she saw during her nightmares and hallucinations while babysitting she begins to think that she is not as crazy as she thinks. Will Lisa be able to discover what is happening or will she suffer from hallucinations or can she return to her normal life again?
I enjoyed reading both Party Games and Don’t Stay Up Too Late by R. L. Stine, I liked the latter novel the best. The writing style was very simple and easy to follow throughout both books. There was not any point throughout the book where I became uninterested in the plot. I would recommend this book for teenagers as well as young adults who want a simple thrill read.

I didnt read goosebumps as a kid so i have no nostalgia for Stine’s writing. It was choppy and annoying, many things were written in one sentence and then rephrased in the other three sentences in the paragraph. It was a pain to get through for sure.

Party Games: this story was at least fun, there was an interesting concept here but again i couldnt stand Stine’s writing. The only thing that threw me off was why Rachel’s friend was so adament about her not going to the party. I understand why the ex boyfriend didnt want her there but there was no explanation for the friends insistance besides that the Fear kid was “weird.” Also, liking horror movies doesnt make you weird…like this is just a general comment for both stories.

Dont Stay Up Late: i dont even really know how to describe this one honestly. Like none of this should have happened. The therapist was breaking doctor patient confidentiality by like having the main character work for someone she knows. Also like, Nate knew what was going on in Lisa’s appointments without her telling him, but that was kind of just brushed over. Also there is literally no explanation for how these people are creating demon children. Like they just say the first three were mess ups and the little kid is perfect. But like how did you even figure out you could do this??? How long have you been trying?? Like its wild. Did not like this one at all

This was definitely a super thriller! I have always loved Fear Street and was glad to be back after many years.

Party Games was a good read. I love scary haunted castles and I loved meeting another Fear in Brendan. It's also nice to see how the Fear reputation affects the Fears who are not involved in anything shady - well as unshady as the Fears can get. Brendan is not a terrible person even though his idea of a joke was not funny. I think I suspected the truth behind the party games and the attempted kidnapping was not supernatural but still worrisome. R.L. Stine did a great ending though. He always leaves me wanting more.

However, stories where I can't figure out the mysteries and extra special. It makes the ending spectacular as I find out with the protagonist. Don't Stay Up Late is such a story. I didn't see the reveal coming until it was too late. I think it was more thrilling than the constant terror of Part Games. The feeling that you're going mad is truly terrible and I really felt for Lisa throughout her entire ordeal. And again; Stine game a chilling ending that leaves you wanting more.

3.5/5 overall but 5/5 for enjoyment

This was an incredibly fast-paced quick read of a book. And by all means I was thoroughly entertained, I mean biting my finger nails on the edge of my seat type thing. That being said the writing felt very...childish. I'm well aware that R.L. Stine is renowned for his children's/middle grade books and I remember really enjoying 'Goosebumps' as a kid so I was thrilled to see him write something a little older even if a little older was YA. I always thought 'Goosebumps' was really on the border with it's genre so I was super excited to see this one go "all out". This however just felt like a longer children's book with kissing and a lot more bodily horror. This made for a quick, entertaining read (and the stories were creative, I loved them) but nothing to really write home about for anything but the stories and sometime sthey were a struggle to read. I wouldn't let that discourage you though cause I think if you have an afternoon where you wanna get your heart racing this'll do it.

Side note: Everyone and their mothers sister was blonde and that bothered me for some reason

📖Two Fear Street books relaunched and published together. In Party Games, Rachel is excited to be invited to an exclusive party on Fear Island with the popular kids. Little does she know, this party is about to turn deadly. In Don’t Stay Up Late, Lisa survives a horrifying car accident, but is plagued by hallucinations and nightmares. After accepting a babysitting position, her friends begin dying and she’s not sure what’s real and what’s not.

💭Reading this book was very nostalgic for me. I remember reading Fear Street and Goosebumps books when I was younger, so when I saw this book at my library I knew I wanted to read it. I really enjoyed the first book, Party Games. It was creepy, and suspenseful and I’m a sucker for a locked room mystery, so I really liked the island setting. It also kept me guessing which I liked. The second story wasn’t really my favorite. I didn’t care much for the storyline and I just wasn’t as interested in that particular story. I did like that we don’t know what’s real and what she’s hallucinating. That was pretty unsettling. Overall, I would say these are fun reads if you grew up reading them.

Party Games - 4.0 🌟's ⠀

Rachel, who was invited to Brandon Fear's birthday party and been warned about Fear's curse. I love the plot, it's such like overlapping between their reality or prank because Brandon was a game freak, and he has planned a huge surprise for his guests and I was immersed along into it. Everything is twisted! Not going to lie, it's hard to put it down after you start reading it. However, I'm not a fan of the ending, it's typical Stine's ending style - cliffhanger but, it's sort of interesting ending.⠀

Don't Stay Up Late - 3.5 🌟's ⠀

I'm going to admit that I quite not into this story. The beginning a bit slow and it keeps me waiting long enough for the thriller. Everything begins when Lisa finally gets a babysitting job to a mysterious family at Fear Street. The rule is never let the boy stay up late or something bad happens. I think this story is more suspense than horror because there's a lot of secrets even from her boyfriend. But, I love the ending! The ending is different from the other stories that I've ever read before.⠀

Overall, I do enjoy reading this book and this gonna be my favorite horror read. ⠀

Book:
FEAR STREET SUPER THRILLER by R.L Stine

Review:
3.5⭐
PARTY GAMES was a wild ride of horror and games. It follows Rachel and a group of friends as they embank on to Fear Island. An innocent party begins to go wrong. When things seem to lighten up, everything changes.
This book kept me on the edge of my seat from the beginning. When the characters were freaked out, I found myself freaked out. And when that twist happened, and then that other one, I was as shocked as ever.
DON'T STAY UP LATE wasn't as good as the first PARTY GAMES, but it was just as crazy. Lisa suffers from hallucinations after a car accident, but she believes she's seeing demons. Is she?
This book was interesting, but I thought it was predictable.Except, I was wrong. I thought the person responsible was someone else entirely. What an ending.

What I Liked About It:
*the nostalgia of Fear Street novels
*the first book out of the two

This book was truly amazing. The suspense, the thrills, the type of writing in general. R.L Stine is such a good author; he can make you scared for YOUR life. I have only read three of these books so far, but I am genuinely in love with them. The series drew me into my love of reading and writing and I couldn't be more grateful. I recommend this to anyone who likes horror or thrillers. I read my first 'Fear Street' book at age nine in the fifth grade. You're never too young to start reading and exploring, especially with R.L Stine.

Party Games was an amazing read and the relationship between the characters we're incredible. I didn't see an actual break in happening during a freak one. it was a great plot twist! definitely would recommend reading this!

Don't Stay Up Late was an even better read! I loved Nate's and Lisa's relationship because it was cutesy and lovey dove which is the kind of love I love to read about.

SPOILER!!!

I was upset that she turned in Nate. He had a change of heart and she threw him in the fire. Harry was adorable up u til I realized he was the demon she kept seeing and the fact that her doctor, who should have been helping her, used her to her advantage is really messed up. I really wish she didn't turn Nate in because he did try to protect her and love her. He just didn't know what to do.

This book defiantly has goosebumps vibes, just more drawn out instead of a short story. While both stories in this book were fun reads I enjoyed party games more. Party games is a somewhat funny read. The murder puns are clever and the plot was interesting. The specific cloths description was strange in the beginning half and (maybe this was just me) the beginning plot felt sort of obvious but it was over all it was a nice story and one I definitely enjoyed reading. Don’t stay up late was more psychological horror in the fact that you could never really tell if Lisa was seeing things or hallucinating. The plot felt predictable but it then took a complete left turn at the end that mostly proved me wrong. The writing style wasn’t overly complicated and laid the plot out pretty clearly. I enjoyed the book and will defiantly read it again around Halloween.

I grew up reading RL Stine, but it had been some time since I last read some of his stuff. When I won this little giveaway, I was excited to get my hands on something new!
I almost forgot how efficient of a horror writer Stine really is! There's little time between meeting the characters and getting right into the thick of whatever horror awaits them. This book really is reminiscent of a double feature horror- you get some bloody deaths, supernatural happenings, lots of suspense and you're left wondering what the heck just happened?
Granted, there's a lot left unanswered. Was it real after all? Why did all that happen anyway? What's the deal? But in my opinion, that doesn't really matter. A good horror leaves you wondering and gives you the feeling what else could possibly happen in this world the author created.

Loved these stories, I have never read 550+ pages so quickly in my life.
Party Games is a fast paced, classic jump scare, kind of story but with a plot twist at the ending.
Don't Stay Up Late is a tragic story of loss that turns more to a sci-fi mystery that has little explanation in the ending.

I've only read one other Fair Street book but I barely remember the story (it was about a decade ago). I was curious to know if the characters would be the same between both stories. The main characters from the first story were not reused but they were mentioned subtly in the second story. I enjoyed that we were staying within the Fear Street world and getting away from the main characters but not so far away that they didn't have a connection between the two stories.
