I LOVED Andy's first book so I was excited to get this one. However, I am sad because it's the same thing on every page - I got up, walked my dog, partied with celebrities, had a massage, filmed my show, went on vacation, worked out and told myself how fat I am. It got boring after the 50th page. I was hoping to understand more about his friendships or why he can't find a man (other than him being short and Jewish - whatever Andy.....you're rich. Work your Tinder account a little bit more), but he never really got into it. So yeah - save your money. I quit reading 1/2 way through.

If you know me you know I'll watch almost anything on Bravo (it's my guilty pleasure) and I love Andy Cohen. I've seen a lot of reviews complaining about how shallow this book is, well hello! It says a look at a shallow year. Beware when he says diary he means it. It was very much a diary. There are no chapters just dates. There were some interesting parts, some funny parts, some parts where there was too much information and then parts with not enough information, some parts made me feel like I lost intelligent brain cells and some parts I felt like I was an Hollywood insider.

Overall, this is a pass the time, beachy kind of read that's only good if you're a Bravo tv fan, a Real Housewives fan and an Andy Cohen fan.

Now I'm off in search of a book to regain my smart brain cells...

The Andy Cohen Diaries is the type of book that you have to be in the mood to read. It is basically like a book length gossip column, which can sometimes be exactly the kind of fluff that I want to read. Other times though... it is more annoying than amusing. Andy writes it in a stream of consciousness style- event, event, feeling, event, aside, event, personal thoughts, inside joke, repeat. So, jump into this one if you want a bunch of gossip about the New York scene. Avoid it if you want something with actual substance.

I thought Andy's description of his book was spot on: "Sometimes-like life itself-these chronicles are funny, sometimes dishy, and sometimes even a little sad. And sometimes they are really, really shallow. Because sometimes life is shallow. I understand that and have accepted it. I hope you will too." pgs 7-8 ebook

Andy's life is filled with drama, divas, and emotion laden moments both on and off the screen. I enjoyed watching him juggle it all. He offers this advice for handling the more challenging people in your life: "...I told her I was sorry if I offended her. Sometimes, the only option is to say you're sorry, even if you have no idea what someone is talking about." pg 11 ebook.

I've never watched any of the Real Housewives of (fill in the blank city). So, those gossip bits didn't mean all that much to me. However, the parts about Lady Gaga were a different story! : "Then the weirdest cake arrived from Lady Gaga, red velvet cheesecake with white chocolate on top with Lady Gaga Art Pop written on it... the note said "Love, Gaga" in teeny little capitals. It looked like-I don't know what actually-robot writing?" pg 18 ebook I also learned in this book that Andy Cohen makes a cameo in Gaga's surreal music video, G.U.Y. Who knew?

Andy is from St. Louis, the closest city to my small hometown. So, we had that in common. Anytime he was taking about the weird things that people from St. Louis do, I was nodding my head in sympathy: "Everybody in St. Louis, all they talk about is how great St. Louis is. The hostess lady in the suite asked me if I lived in LA and I said no, I live in New York, and she said to me very earnestly, "Why, may I ask, would you ever leave St. Louis?" pg 38 ebook. Yeah, they do that.

I could go on and on. The Andy Cohen Diaries is just so quotable. Some read alikes: Amish Confidential by "Lebanon" Levi Stoltzfus (tell-all about the Amish Cofidential show and the Amish community) or My Horizontal Life by Chelsea Handler (hilarious recounting of Chelsea's various escapades).

Television host Andy Cohen seems like an affable guy, so I figured a one-year diary of his life might be fun The book is exactly what the title implies - diary entries that detail Andy's everyday activities.

Andy notes up front that he'll be doing a lot of name dropping, and indeed he does. He's acquainted with a wide assortment of celebrities and there's tons of stuff like: had frozen yogurt with SJP (Sarah Jessica Parker); met Matthew (Broderick) at a bar; invited myself to Kelly (Ripa) and Mark (Consuelos) for lunch; got a phone call from Cher; discussed producing a new show with Joan Rivers; went to a party at Jerry and Jessica Seinfeld's house; hobnobbed with Madonna; texted Anderson (Cooper), and so on.

There are also innumerable entries about Andy's frequent visits to Fire Island, where scads of eating, drinking, partying, and hooking up goes on.

In fact Andy constantly talks about drinking, both in his daily life and on his late night talk show.

Andy also admits to flirting with every attractive male he sets eyes on - even if they're straight, too young, married, not interested, etc. In his defense, Andy seems to be seeking a loving long-term partner rather than a series of one night stands. Still, the constant flirting comes off as adolescent, desperate, and icky.

On a different note Andy documents a self-improvement program in which he's determined to eat well, drink less, work out a lot, and lose weight. And Andy does buff up over the year covered by this diary.

My favorite parts of the book are about Andy's dog, Wacha (AKA Norman Reedus...ha ha ha).

It's fun to read about Andy adopting Wacha, a beagle mix, and about Wacha's activities - chasing his shadow for hours, running on the beach, cuddling with Andy, playing with other dogs, etc. These diary entries are sweet and touching.





I also like that Andy is a devoted son, frequently skyping with and visiting his parents. Andy's mom, Evelyn - who sounds like a hoot - even acts as an occasional bartender on her son's late night talk show.

When it comes to work, Andy often mentions his "Real Housewives" series (he's the executive producer). There's apparently a lot of cast juggling on these shows - hirings and firings, demotions from permanent status to guest appearances, and cast members leaving and returning. Andy's descriptions of phone calls from spouses of fired (or downsized) housewives, begging Andy to reconsider because hubby gave up his job to be on the show, are sad and funny. Not too bright to quit your day job, Mr. Housewife!





I think the book probably gives a skewed impression of Andy, who comes off as a shallow, good-natured fellow who's sole concerns in life are eating, drinking, flirting, getting massages, hanging out with celebrities, getting good guests for his talk show, visiting with family members (a bit), and so forth. I imagine, in truth, that Andy also reads books, follows the news, and is concerned with deep issues - but I guess that's a different book.

Since writing this book Andy adopted a baby, and is a happy dad. 😊





I'd recommend this book to fans of Andy Cohen and his TV shows. These readers would probably enjoy the inside look into Andy's life. Other people, not so much.

i'll save you some time:

- andy thinks he's fat every day and obsesses over everything he eats
- only dates people 20 years younger who have perfect bodies
- brings up ferguson and in the next sentence moves onto his favorite ice cream flavor
- gets pissy with almost every non-celeb he runs into (people he perceives to be fans who are actually just waiting for their car, flight attendants, cab drivers, etc)
- mentions that some people thinks he pits women against women and proceeds to do that over and over
- calls the mediterranean "the med"

swap "deep" with "cringe-worthy" and you'd have a more accurate title

I don't understand these negative reviews complaining about how shallow this book is. HELLO!- "shallow" is literally in the title. Andy Cohen has made his money capitalizing on super shallow people. What did ya'll expect?!

I loved this book. I got sucked into Bravo, ironically, through my fiance, who claimed he loved Housewives because "watching a trainwreck is fun". I remember saying I'd never watch this network back in the day, but I am now an avid watcher too, so I can't refute his logic. WWHL is something we often watch together and usually enjoy. We love the wide range of guests. My fiance loves that Andy is a huge Howard Stern fan. I love that Andy is an adorable gay Jewish guy. We're both happy. Especially when Andy's friends are on, which is why I bought the book.

So, I feel like I knew what I was getting into. And I was pleasantly satisfied.

No, Andy does not give any dishy bombshells on housewives. Remember, he's a businessman with a successful career at the end of the day! Of course he's going to protect that! No, Andy is not like you or me. Andy is a rich guy with famous friends, living it up in New York City. If you can put yourself in that frame of mind before opening the book, I think you'll have fun.

For me, this was my airplane read over a Christmas spent commuting to Indiana while I was incredibly sick. It was the sort of silly indulgence I needed and for me, a win. Go in without an agenda, and just enjoy Andy living the sort of life I bet most of us would kill for. Don't think further than that or you'll just end up another one of these whiny reviewers complaining about nothing.

At the end of the day, I wish he did this every year. I would probably keep buying it.

I feel a bit embarrassed for having enjoyed this as much as I did. It's really a book version of US magazine, focuses on Bravo's Andy Cohen (how in the world does he have so many celebrity friends? It makes me a bit curious to read his first book to find out, because a lot of the people mentioned here don't even get last names....they are either THAT close to Andy, or they aren't required. Trust me when I say that Andy sees more of SJP than does her husband and probably her children.)

Overall it's a year in the life of a weight-obsessed, name-dropping, dog-obsessed (that part didn't bother me at all, except for the fact that he probably mentions that Wacha came from a "kill shelter in West Virginia" and makes a number of rather snide remarks about the Mountain State. Andy is what is he is - fairly shallow and happy to own up to it. I hope he continues these diaries and names even more names - it's trash, but really fun trash (especially if you watch a lot of Bravo). No real recommendation needed - if this is a book for you, you'll know it!

Full disclosure: I watch all iterations of The Real Housewives, Top Chef and anything with Jeff Lewis. I also watch WWHL, Andy Cohen's talk show.

Watching Andy's talk show and reunion shows in the past, I often admired the way that he handled the shenanigans of the Real Housewives. I thought his ability to mediate those disputes but still ask tough questions was quite remarkable. That hasn't changed.

I also thought that he seemed like a funny, normal, down-to-earth guy.

However, this book showed a side of Andy in which I was truly disappointed. I have been disillusioned by Hollywood and the people who clamor for it for a long time now. His friendships with Anderson Cooper, Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick, etc., just aren't that impressive to me. I doubt that I would ever want to know people who have been in the Hollywood machine for any length of time.

For someone who produces reality TV (and yes, I get that there truly is no such thing), his reality is quite different from mine. I'm not talking about the money (though of course, how many of us could afford to buy the apartment above us to turn it into a duplex and also have a house in the Hamptons?) I'm talking about the idea that doing drugs is okay - he openly shares his pothead status on WWHL and in the book. As someone who is LEGALLY taking ADD drugs, I was offended by him taking half of one when it was offered to him. Gee, thanks! People like you are the ones that make it so that I have to visit my ADD doc every 8 weeks to get refills on my prescriptions and my insurance has to approve the drug for me every year.

Andy also shares that he has a guy who comes to his home and gives him 2 hour massages on a regular basis. Who doesn't?

For someone who criticizes the 1% so much, he sure seems to live exactly like them.

Were there parts of the book I devoured? Yes, there were. It wasn't a terribly written book, though I've noticed some reviewers thought so. It was just that the man behind the curtain was revealed. And not in an attractive manner.

I'm obsessed with Andy and all things Bravo so I thought I would love this. I was hoping for all kinds of dirt, but found it lacking. The real juicy housewives bits weren't even that juicy. He mentions a couple househusbands calling him and demanding this or that for their wives but he won't mention who. buzzkill! The only friends of his I recognized were Mark, Kelly, Anderson so all the other friends he mentions on every other page were lost on me. I was expecting a lot of celebrity shade but I guess he was too scared to offend celebrities. Oh well. $12 wasted.

I must admit, that this "book" is aptly titled, but I would probably remove the word "Deep". Nothing about this collection of journal entries is deep, but that is to be expected considering its writer lives a life that doesn't scratch below the surface. While I found it entertaining because I find the lives of those with money and the privilege it buys luring, Andy Cohen should re-read his own diary if he truly seeks a life that goes beyond the first layer. He talks about finding love, but repeatedly goes on dates he sets up through a service with men barely out of college and then admits that they are age inappropriate. Newsflash: just by admitting that they too young for you doesn't cancel out the act of setting up subsequent dates with more men that are young enough to be your own kids. I have to give him props for creating the life he desired since childhood, a life spent living in an expensive Manhattan apartment with another home in the Hamptons, parties thrown by celebrities and attended by and with celebrities and best friends that fly him via helicopter to get to said parties. But while he is flitting from one home to the next, eating brunch with the Fallons followed by lunch with Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos, maybe he needs to stop a moment, let a little moss gather and find the "Deep" end of the heated pools in which he swims.

I found this book repetitive and a bit boring in parts. I don't feel like I really got to know Andy Cohen very well nor his cohorts. It's a shame, too, because he really seems like he would be an interesting guy. I wanted more from the book. Instead, it really was "today I walked my dog", "was on conference calls all morning", etc. It was a good peek at a day in his life but not enough depth for me. Even though I zoned out at certain points and had to reread certain entries over and over before they sunk in, it was, overall, a quick read.

I gotta stop reading books written by celebs that I am semi interested in. Something about reading the inside of their thoughts not only distorts the image I have of said celebrity, but makes me ill at myself for wasting so much time liking them and watching their shit. I kinda liked Lena Dunham....then read her book. I have thought Andy Cohen was cute for years........not so much anymore. I don't think I would like him or his friends in real life.

To give him some credit, Cohen tells you up front what the book is like. I mean, the damn tag line says something to the extent of it being a deep look at a shallow year. Damn skippy it was. His writing it is an homage to Warhol's Diaries, so I get the overall jist. He name drops and spends his days living a life of leisure and it is kinda gross.

Maybe pop culture enthusiasts enjoy the ins and outs of reading celebrity info, but I am in my 30s and I hardly care. He is in his 40s and is obsessed with social media and Instagram followers and I don't even have social media aside from this site. So, there is that....and also the fact that I don't think he would date a bear at all, so middle finger to him on that issue. He seems quite obsessed with weight, which is gross. See, all these things remind me of a 12 year old girl, and I don't have time to idolize someone with those priorities.

This was the most self-serving drivel I have ever read in my life.

I adore Andy Cohen the host and producer. The gossipy guy who is smack center in the middle of all the Bravo drama is an adorable, sweet man who you can't help but want to pinch his cheeks. However, The Andy Cohen Diaries is a more like a vacuous look at a shallow man as opposed to a deep look at a shallow year. Andy claims he "names names" and in some cases, he does. But when he names names, it's usually not to reveal anything you don't already know about, but rather, to name drop. He comes across so materialistic, flippant and sort of desperate that it is hard to care about any of his encounters. I didn't think "Most Talkative" was going to win any awards, but this book makes that one seem Nobel Prize worthy.

Don't get me wrong, I still love Andy. I will always love Andy. Just wish he would stay in his lane and leave the writing to people who can actually write about things that matter, even within the world of gossip.

There's just no meat and potatoes to this book. Builds up to a lot of nothing. It's just like if you read a full year of Perez Hilton's blog from start to finish. At least Perez had funny jizz pics to spice up his work.

There are some read worthy moments, like the Lady Gaga "pee story" which is a little amusing, or how he ends up adopting his dog, which is kind of sweet. But, there really is nothing in this book that die hard gossip fans really don't know about. It's a lot of "behind the scenes" conversations about RH episodes that have already aired. I suppose a lot of people would find that interesting, I'm just not one of those people. When someone says they are going to "name names", I always assume that they are going to go for something really spicy, juicy hot. Not really much of that in here. I have to admit, I read half the book in about a day, waiting for something to transpire that would make me go "WHOA!" That never happened. It took me nearly 3 weeks to read the second half of the book because, to be perfectly honest? I was bored to tears, but I cannot leave a book unfinished. I found the second half more torturous than the first.

Sorry, Andy. I will always be a fan of yours and of Bravo, but you are not going to suck me in for a third time with your shenanigans. I'm onto you, Cohen.

Andy Cohen's got the 4-1-1!

You definitely have to love Andy and all things Bravo to enjoy this book. Luckily, I'm obsessed with both! Name dropping is something that happens alot in the book, so if you don't watch The Real Housewives or Watch What Happens Live, you're probably going to be really lost. I started watching one city of Housewives a few years ago and then became obsessed with all cities shortly after. It's not something I would normally be watch, but I'm addicted and have been for a long time. I then started watching WWHL to keep up with the housewives, which turned into me watching every episode housewives or not. And so the cylce continues with pretty much every Bravo show. I have a problem.

This is a diary of a year in the life of Andy Cohen, filled with happy, sad, embarrassing, hilarious, and yes, shallow moments. He's a rich, late night host, who is obsessed with his dog Wacha, his famous friends, and weighing 165 or less. If you think you're going to come out of this book learning a valuable life lesson, you're not. It's a fun, light read about his everyday life, which is way more exciting than mine! He has pee-fume made from Lady GaGa's pee and hangs out with SJP literally all the time. That just scratches the surface.

I try to think back to some of the episodes of WWHL that I've seen that are mentioned and find myself laughing at how opposite things were behind the scenes compared to what I was seeing. Others, were just as I pictured them, from chemistry with the guest to epsiodes where it seems like someone is pulling teeth to get through it. It all makes for a great show. The book seems like a gossip column, or even as Andy says, "a diary about essentially nothing!", but there really isn't any juicy dirt on anyone and it is about something. His life...which is very entertaining! It's so enjoyable to hear how he interacts with people. It's like a backstage pass to his life.

I really enjoyed this book and I needed something that would make me laugh.
This won't make you love Andy Cohen, but if you already love him, you will love him even more after reading this! I can't wait to start the next one.

Really more like 3.5/4 but not as good as daddy diaries! For me! Definitely like micro problematic in these ways that are sooo 2013/2014 which for me? Is fun. Love to see his budding friendship with John Mayer. Absolutely CHILLS when John plays him the XO cover before it’s released. Also die every time he talks about getting free Beats by Dre every other week. I’m Andy pilled! I’m not gonna change!

Andy Cohen set out to write “a pop culture time capsule“, and that’s just what he’s done with this fun, funny book. I have to admit I was out of my pop-culture depth here; I have never watched even a moment of any of the many “Housewives of” series, had never heard of Lisa Vanderpump or NeNe, and I wasn’t even entirely clear who Cohen was when I started the book - something to do with late-night talk shows, maybe? But Cohen had me laughing out loud with his descriptions of both Ralph Lauren’s Olympic sweater and the Google Headquarters in New York, and his general enthusiasm and fanboy excitement about the celebrities he is constantly meeting are endearing. Plus he’s always mentioning the weather - rejoicing in a warm Spring day, depressed when it’s cold and wet; it’s very sweet, somehow. Cohen seems like a guy who has never met a stranger, and his encyclopedic knowledge of pop culture from mid-20th century until now - he’s the guy I’d want on my Pub Quiz team, if I had one - means he could probably find something to talk about with anybody. Although we have almost nothing in common, and our paths will never, ever cross, I now know that Andy and I could chat amiably, glasses of Whispering Angel in hand, about Roz Chast, Downton Abbey, and St. Louis. And if he’d treat me to one of those two-hour(!) massages he’s always enjoying, he’d be my BFF.

Just like Andy and Hickey's phrase from the summer, I loved The Andy Cohen Diaries "one hundred percent"!!!

After a string of mediocre e-books, I was happy to get my hands on this quick witted book by Andy Cohen. Now going into this, I must tell you that I am a true Real Housewives of everything FAN and an avid Watch What Happens Live lover. With that being said, I may just be a tad partial to all things Andy Cohen, including his new book!

I haven't read the Andy Warhol Diaries, which is what inspired Andy Cohen to write his own diary, but I truly enjoyed getting a sneak peek into his daily life. The name dropping was endless (in a good way), and I found myself googling every other page to see who and what Andy was gabbing about each day. I will say that I may have a biased opinion on this book because of my Bravo-loving self, but it was a funny, easy read that was a nice change of pace, and a first for me to read a book in Diary format.

Now I just need to know how Andy's Barbie Dreamhouse turned out, if anything transpired between Andy and the doctor, and just who will be contenders for the new season of Real Housewives of New York #firstworldproblems

***Yawwwwnnnn...** Is the best word I can use to describe this book. I do believe the title, however. A Deep Look at a Shallow Year for sure. I really do wish I could live a life of doing nothing all day, getting massages on a regular basis (I guess it's tough eating out, going to the gym and drinking until whenever after a VERY HARD DAY's work of doing an hour live television show). At least he adopted a dog. His mom ought to slap him upside the head (like Cher in Moonstruck) and just "Get over yourself".

I love Andy Cohen but this book was a bit of a long-winded disappointment. It got better during the middle third but just was no where as good as his first book. More of a 2.5 star read but I rounded up to 3 because of my love for him and Madonna, who was mentioned in this book many times.

Ok yes, this is only fully-enjoyable if you love A) name-dropping B) the St. Louis Cardinals and C) Joan Rivers but thankfully I love all three!
