Don't miss this fan-favorite tale from New York Times bestselling author Sherryl Woods of finding love in unexpected places… Marilou Stockton frequently saw some odd things at her job as a postal worker in the dead-letter office. But when she stumbled across a grandmother's heartrending missive, one glance convinced her she had to seek out the writer's little grandson. But Cal Rivers was no child! He was a man—a sexy, stubborn rancher with no intention of honorably mending his fences. As far as Marilou could tell, all of Cal's intentions were strictly dishonorable…and aimed at her. But while his anger might be valid, she knew there was more to life than holding grudges. There was forgiveness…and love.
With two other careers to her credit before becoming a novelist and four states in which she's lived for extended periods of time, Sherryl Woods has collected friends and memories, along with way too much unnecessary junk.
"The friends are the only things I've brought with me through the years that really matter," she says. "I could probably live without one more chintz teacup, another tin-litho sandpail or another snowglobe, but I need those friends."
The theme of enduring friendships and families is always central to Sherryl's books, including her latest Chesapeake Shores series — THE INN AT EAGLE POINT, FLOWERS ON MAIN and HARBOR LIGHTS.
Author of more than 100 romance and mystery novels, Sherryl Woods grew up in Virginia. Over the years she had lived in Ohio and Florida, as well as California. Currently she divides her time between Key Biscayne, Florida and Colonial Beach, Virginia, the small, river-front town where she spent her childhood summers.
A graduate of Ohio State University School of Journalism, Sherryl spent more than ten years as a journalist, most of them as a television critic for newspapers in Ohio and Florida. For several years she also coordinated a motivational program for the more than 8,000 employees at the University of Miami-Jackson Memorial Medical Center.
Her first book, RESTORING LOVE, was published in 1982 by Dell Candlelight Ecstasy under the pseudonym of Suzanne Sherrill. Her second book, SAND CASTLES, under the pseudonym of Alexandra Kirk, was published later that same year by Bantam. She began using her own name when she moved to the Second Chance at Love line at Berkley Publishing. In 1986, she began writing full-time and also began her long career at Silhouette Books with the Desire title NOT AT EIGHT, DARLING, set in the world of television which she covered for so many years.
In addition to her more than 75 romances for Silhouette Desire and Special Edition, she has written thirteen mysteries — nine in the Amanda Roberts series and four in the Molly DeWitt series.
When she's not writing or reading, Sherryl loves to garden, though she's not at her best on a riding lawn mower. She also loves tennis, theater, and ballet, even though her top spin has long since vanished, she's never set foot on a stage, and she's way too uncoordinated to dance. She also loves baseball and claims anyone who's ever seen Kevin Costner in "Bull Durham" can understand why.
Cleaning out my book box .. found this book and remembered how much I loved this story ! Just re-read this .. What a treat to have it now on my Kindle.
Excellent premise, the dead letter from his dying grandmother and the postal employee who decides to track Cal down to return it. But I had trouble with the beginning when he walks away and she virtually invades his home and starts doing his laundry???? What! You have got to be kidding. Of course she stays and the story proceeds from there. Good writing, interesting characters. Nice read. I couldn't get past the female invasive beginning. Others may enjoy the takeover, not me.
This book has something for everyone. Romance, family problems and the wide open spaces with horses and cattle. It was great to see Cal finally find the love of a wonderful woman. All in all, the book was very enjoyable.
Entertaining, fun, and just loved the characters of this book. Marilou works in the dead letter office of the post office and tracks down the grandson of dying grandmother to discover the grandson is all grown up. Sparks fly for Marilou and Cal from the moment they meet when Marilou captures Cal's heart and leads him on a merry chase to find the meaning of family. Don't miss this story as it will charm you to pieces.
Marilou works in the "dead" letter department of the U.S. Post Office and sometimes she comes across some very interesting letters. Normally Marilou just does her best to trace the address and get the letter on its way but this time she rads one from a grandmother trying to find her grandson. Marilou is in need of a vacation and decides to follow up on this and do her best to reunite this pair.
Marilou Stockton, a dead-letter postal worker tries to find a way to connect folks with mail that goes a bit astray. Her current work is assist Cal Rivers, a rancher, and a bit of a grudge holder (to say the least). Can she help him get back on track? Read and see!
A good one-day, rainy-day romance read. Typical Sherry Woods story. Strong characters and a feel good ending. Good way to relax between heavier plots/authors.
I was upset and disappointed when I realized that this book was originally published in 1991 and rereleased with a new updated cover but not content. Cal's grandmother, Caroline, who actively runs one of Wyoming's largest, oldest, and most profitable beef ranch calls a 'computer' a "new fangled " gadget...Really in the Wyoming, where livestock and farms are mechanized/modernized if they are to survive in 2016. The content should be redacted and modernized to reflect the times .Also readers/purchasers of the book should have been made aware that it was a rerelease novel. The novel was short, the plot and characters' behavior predictable, and dated. Tsk, tsk, Ms.Woods!! 2.5 /*****
My dearest Cal is a very satisfying read. You hang on, wondering what,s going to happen next, crossing your fingers.that the characters will say and do what you want to.
Wonderful story. I love the fact that Marylou came across a letter from a grandmother searching for her grandson in hopes to reconcile her family, but so much more happened thanks to Marylou's great heart.
