Such leading directors as Jonathan Miller, Konrad Swinarski, Trevor Nunn, and Adrian Noble discuss the constraints and freedoms implicit in their task of interpreting Shakespeare for modern audiences
Absolutely engaging and inspiring. There are insights on nearly every page, not least because Berry has some consistent, concrete questions he's asking. He certainly lets the interviews have a life of their own, but there's some control here which allows all these directors to respond to similar prompts. I'll return to this often.
While the author spends more than enough time in this book airing his own hypothesis to his famous subjects, this book is worth reading for the Peter Brook and Trevor Nunn interviews alone.
