Occult societies, murder, brothels, London – and a young debauched Victorian on the loose.
From Bram Stoker Award winner Douglas Clegg comes a gaslamp horror gothic right out of "the Marquis de Sade and Charles Dickens...Scintillatingly brilliant."* For fans of Victorian debauchery, Lovecraftian occultism plus a twist of degeneracy among the upper classes. Not for the faint of heart!
The man who created Harrow had a secret history.
In The Necromancer, Douglas Clegg explores the story of Justin Gravesend's youth and his induction into the organization known as the Chymera Magick.
From a Welsh village to the back alleys of London, university student Justin meets his destiny in the underworld known as The Pandemonium.
This book is vile, disgusting, and evil, and perfectly sets up the reasoning for the Harrow series of books. If you are sensitive or easily offended, leave this book out of your reading. Nevertheless, it is appropos to the evils that follow in the book series. Well-written, twisted as it is, there is nothing redeeming in this book.
first off Douglas Clegg is a sick twisted little man which I is a good thing when writing this genre. the mecromancer is an excellent read. storytelling at its best. the only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is the length of the book. it comes in at only 134 pages. a quick read. even so I can definitely recommend this awesome book. good job Mr Clegg.
Horror expansions begin Rose: I've read the first title on my horror expansion list, and it was a corker. Douglas Clegg never fails to bring the fear, and this prequel to the Harrow House series was hallucinatorily terrifying. It's must-read if you are fascinated by cults, Magick, and the idea of esoteric knowledges. Caveat: if you do not enjoy sexual horror, this book is not for you. At all.
Harrow House:
prequels: The Necromancer Isis
1. Nightmare House 2. Mischief 3. The Infinite 4. The Abandoned
Thorn: I have the flu. As I have mentioned, I also have an autoimmune disorder. So I am going to hide under the covers, and read, and try not to think about the damage my immune system is currently doing to itself, or what twisted remix of illness the flu will become. That's my own private horror show, and I don't wanna participate.
This is a very, very short read. I guess I was expecting way more for what I paid for it.
The majority of the journal entries talk about him leaving his family and making friends at University. Not exactly the evil man of Harrow house that I was expecting. You see how he was initiated into this secret society, but then the journal abruptly stops...... So I was expecting the story and didn't get the story. You see more of the story before the story.
