Unfortunately, I can't give this book negative stars because Goodreads won't let me. But I want to! Boy do I want to! I was crying for most of the end of it and I pissed the other half!
Omg! I hate hate cheaters and boy there are a lot in this book. Ty our "worthy" (aka cheating asshole) hero first has sex with the heroine thinking she was his love Tara and calling her that name and the heroine a virgin but she does not mind at all! Guess she was so desperate she would except being a substitute for another woman.
I am sorry but the book goes down hill from there as the ASSHOLE HERO marries and has sex with his Beloved Tara while keeping his piece of the side heroine!!! Where was her spine? Come on here he give her a quickie in a car and she is all over his dick whenever he wants her. While he is married here!!!
Omg I hate book with cheaters.
Maggie's death was the most devastation part of this book. I was just in pieces over it and the senseless way her young life was cut short after so much pain and suffering.
Everything about this book, SUCKED!!!
Honestly, to find out how she eventually died young (after I read she story of HEA in another book by this author), I was DONE.
I will never read another book in this series! Thanks a lot for ruining the whole series!!! You suck author and shame on you for doing this to your fans and faithful readers of this series.
I can't stress enough how much this book represents the sad and pathetic excuse of cheaters everywhere the whole "my wife does not understand me." Omg don't waste your time folks, You are worth more.

Wow so far Ty is the worst calder in my opinion. Found this calder a bit on the weak and gullible side. Just had no patience to his willful blindness when it came to Tara.
I had few issues. Tara was Ty’s grand passion but they were not compatible in the long run. There are many stories where the H is blinded by the shallow beauty and has to pay for his mistakes. Often the shallow beauty is the one who cheats and it gives the H an out. That was not the case here. I liked Jessey but I didn’t like that she was the OW in this story. The H slept with both women and chose to stay with his wife. Then the other stuff happened and he got an out . He took it but it felt like he did it because it was convenient. Jessey was definitely low maintenance and more compatible. He still had feelings for his wife though. There was too much about his feelings for Tara but not enough about his feelings for Jessey. The author hinted that she slowly grew on him and he started to feel attracted to her. It still felt pale in comparison to his grand passion. I even had an issue with H’s father. What Chase did with Sally was emotional cheating IMO. The book was long and I felt somehow underwhelmed with the romance.
Started reading this series in the 80's. I think the last one was published just a couple of years ago. I've enjoyed them all, especially the early ones set in the old west. The newer one's are contemporary. It follows a large ranch owning family through the generations.
An okay read. Bittersweet with loads of emotional and actual cheating by H's father and H himself. How dare his father act like he never thought about having an affair with OW when he was spending more time with her than his wife all the time.
Our h was other woman in this story. The H cheated on his wife with h. I didnt like both of them at all. But this story lacked the emotional pull in relationships which I guess is how rural life is so cheating didnt come out as too ewwy for me. Also the way the relationships were portrayed, all types of cheating name sort of naturally. I know if feel weird reading it but that is how I felt.
There was no emotional development of relationship. People just fell into relationships and that was it!
Like the others, this book I have already read many years ago. In this case, I was not able to finish reading it the second time. Once was good enough. I stopped about a third of the way through. I started remembering the book N the portion of that I just reread was not that good and boring. Was an OK read the first time but to me it got a little ridiculous with Chase being upset that his son was going to college and throwing a fit about it and Tyler saying he’s in love and going to get married to a girl that was having fun and going out with different guys every day. Just a little too much for me.
Ty Calder was a stranger to the mighty empire that was his legacy—the ranchlands that rose to meet the Montana skies. He learned the ways of ranch life from young Jessy, who knew the land like her own heart.
But Ty worshiped dark, glamorous Tara, scion of the new “corporate West,” of vast power and big money. Tara lured Ty on, greedy to be mistress of the Calder kingdom. Yet when her world rushed in to plunder the fortune beneath the prairies, it was Jessy who fought for Ty, defying death to save a birthright that was Calder Born, Calder Bred.
You will want to start at the very beginning of this series it is so wonderful insure you get the entire series as each new book compliments the one before and after there is so much history and th trials and drama will keep you wanting to see what's next each story is riveting enjoy the journey
I actually enjoyed this book, it showed a Calder man who has flaws and is not the 'perfect' character. The ups and downs kept me from putting this book down. I am excited for the next in the series.
I enjoyed this book very much. My only complaint is that it is full of typos. Sometimes it takes a minute to figure out what the words were meant to be.
This was a great story. I thought it started out a little slow but then it picked up and I could hardly put it down. I will definitely read this series again.
This book has everything I look for in a good read. Intrigue, romance, beautiful imagery all describe Janet Dailey’s Calder series and the book is the best yet!
Ty Calder é o homem fraco resultado do garoto mimado apresentado no livro anterior.
Ty Calder was not brought up on Calder land. He has had to learn the ways of ranch life. One of those more than willing to teach him is Jessy. Jessy is a tomboy who has grown up on the land and can and will do anything any man can do.
Ty is determined to go off to university and learn about agriscience and new ways of ranching. There he meets Tara, beautiful and wise in the ways of business and politics.
The ranch needs some influx of capital. Will Ty, lured on by Tara agree to let the coal be mined on his property?
Chase Calder is training is newly discovered son Ty to take over the ranch. The company Dyson and Stricklin who help Chase market his cattle. In scouting adjacent properties for possible purchase, coal is discovered just below the grass and in huge quantities. When Chase refuses to have his land involved in this type of development, the firm purchases the adjacent properties and develops it themselves. Meanwhile Ty is intrigued with Dyson's daughter Tara who temps him to betray his father
I read the whole Calder series a few years back after reading one of the newer ones and realizing it was part of a series. I enjoyed them all for the most part; was surprised when a couple of the heroes were killed off in their stories. This book sticks out in my mind because I always thought that the song "I'm Not That Girl" from Wicked was perfectly Jessy's song when Ty is infatuated with Tara.
I actually read an early edition but couldn't find a listing for it. I went through a Janet Daily phase when the kids were young and I really enjoyed the Calder Saga. Daily has added to it over the years and I always enjoy visiting with the Calder's again.
