The first story in a new series can sometimes feel a little clunky while the author introduces you to the new world and people who inhabit it. By the time the second story comes around, if the author is good, they have smoothed out and the stories flow. You revisit characters and the over-arcing storyline. You are sucked in to the new couples’ story line and the troubles they face on their way to their HEA. When the story is a novella, the action is condensed by 10!
Lori Laker once again works her magic. Tice has been obsessed (in a mostly good way) with his partner’s sister Bethany since he first saw her picture during the background check he ran on Kane. He proceeded to learn everything about her using legal and not-so-legal means. When she calls her brother in a panic cause someone had broken into her house while she was sleeping, Tice loses his s#!t and races to her side.
The story goes 5-alarm scorching hot and sexy while Tice and his crew find the person responsible for the problems Bethany is having.
These novellas are insta-love, 0-1000, seriously hot and explosive. Just the perfect snack for a couple of hours at the beach, waiting for an appointment, or waiting on your kids. A spicy, 50 on the Scoville scale, you will need an ice bath when you are done snack.
But what makes Lori Laker so special is that her novellas may be short and super spicy, but her characters actually have depth. She manages to create a world you want to visit again and again with characters you fall in love with and are invested in within 85 pages.

Tice knows he shouldn’t want Bethany because she is his friend’s little sister but when she finds herself in danger he knows he must protect her at all cost. Bethany is on edge after someone breaks into her home. She doesn’t expect Tice to become her protector but she quickly learns that is exactly what he intends. Danger and attractions mix but will it end in love?
This is a simple story of a man deciding he is wildly attracted to his friend’s younger sister but she doesn’t realize that he’s already in deep. Tice thinks he’s too broken to ever get attached to a nice woman. He is a hyper protective alpha type that can’t stop himself from running to Bethany’s rescue when she’s in trouble. Bethany runs an animal rescue. She is sweet and kind. She is immediately attracted to Tice. They don’t have character development as part of the story. They meet, there’s danger, Tice protects her, they develop feelings, they stop the bad guy and they fall in love. And done.
There is a bad guy. He is the catalyst that forces Tice into close quarters with Bethany. I thought the author was going to go one way with the story but I was pleasantly surprised by the conclusion. It actually felt real and I can imagine it happening in real life.
This is an instant love story. Both of the main characters have demanding jobs they love. It is sweet and simple. If would recommend this if you are looking for a fast read. I will read more from this author in the future.

This is a very short story but Lori Laker has managed to give it so much content and her characters depth.
Ex navy SEAL, Tice Wolfe, is working with his partner Kane Mathews, unbeknown to Kane, Trice has obsessed over a photograph of his sister Bethany that hangs in Kane's office, he had fallen in love with her, he knew everything about her but the rule is that sisters are out of bounds.
Kane gets a phone call from a hysterical Bethany, someone had broken into her house while she was asleep, the rules go out of the window, Trice is onto it, he is incandescent, pushing Kane to one side he is out of the door and in his truck.
Gentle, sweet Bethany runs an animal rescue sanctuary, she obviously had something that someone wanted but what and who ?
Tice is in full protective mode and, although Bethany had never met the six foot four, handsome ex SEAL, she is soon in his arms.
This story goes from 0 to 100 in 60 seconds, they have only just met but the attraction is combustive and it doesn't take long before it gets steamy.
This is the second book in this series and it is just as compelling as the first one, a quick, enjoyable read.

Jenna knows how to write a protective hero, that's for sure! I recommend some ice to go with your book however! I love Jenna Gunn's stories and she is writing with a new name for this series so far. The story is there for you, no hiding, no waiting for something and anything to happen to get you going. Not with this author! Exciting start to finish and we always get 100% committed men for their ladies.

He is a former Navy seal, having recently gotten into business with his brothers and arms. When he hears that his friend sister is in trouble he rushes in. He has been biting his time to meet her, the second he saw her photo he knew she was going to be his, and now that she is in danger, he’s ready to step up and claim her. She runs an animal sanctuary, and has been focused on her work. The person that seems to be stalking her is terrifying but the man who has shown up to claim her is formidable. This is a quick read, high heat low plot story. It is completely over the top from him riding in to save her to making her his woman, it will give you a quick shot of butterfly tummy when you read about the obsessed alpha. This one definitely feels more his story than hers. A little danger… and a little dirty .. with a happily ever after.

Someone has broken into Bethany's house during the night, and although she wasn't attacked or injured, she is understandably upset. Tice sees this as his opportunity to make his feelings known to Bethany, and by extension, Kane, and takes over the call.

Tice's best friend Kane has a sister named Bethany. Bethany's home was broken into more than once, and Tice takes it upon himself to protect her. He takes her home, and decides then and there that he will marry her, and build her a new animal rescue. Bethany works at an animal rescue that is run down and in need of repair. She loves animals, and Tice even adopts a puppy for her. Once the threat is gone, with Tice's SEAL friends they marry.
Tice is a strong protective man who will do anything to protect Bethany. He does whatever he has to to guarantee her safety. Bethany loves Tice's protection and care, she treasures how he looks out for her, puts her first. They compliment each other.
This is a very enjoyable series.

This is a super quick and spicy romance. We first heard about Bethany in the first book about Kane, her older brother. Now Bethany is in trouble. There was somebody in her house, and she had to escape to feel safe, and when Tice hears what happens on the phone when she’s telling her brother, he races to protect her.. Tice has been in love with her since he first saw her picture and now he has come to her rescue, Bethany also falls in love with him. There is a happily ever after, and the introduction to the next story in the series with Chase and the waitress.

this is fast paced, action-packed and hot, hot, hot! Give is big, burly, super possessive and over-the-top protective when it comes to Bethany, hs best friend’s gorgeous baby sister. The minute he hears Bethany say she is in trouble, there is no stopping Tice until she is safe in his arms, not her brother’s who looks ready to tear him apart for even looking at his sweet, innocent sister. Bethany is more than happy to have Tice step up to protect her. It is a case of instant love and superheated chemistry for both Tice and Bethany. It doesn’t take long for them to claim each other.

This series is a quick read all the way around.
Bethany is Kane’s sister which means she is off-limits but Tice just couldn’t get her picture out of him mind.
Bethany wakes up to see that someone has broken into her home, scared, she grabs clothes and flees her home running to the nearest coffee shop and calls her brother.
Tice sees the tension when Kane answers his phone and when he hears there is trouble, he take matters in his own hands.
Determined to keep her safe, Bethany and Tice are always together, leaving nothing but desire to flourish between them and that is exactly what happens!

Tice falls in love with Bethany after seeing her picture in her brother Kane’s file. He and Kane were both Navy SEALs and now they work together. Bethany’s place got broken into at night. It gives Tice an opportunity to meet her in person. His possessiveness takes over. He takes Bethany to his new house. When Kane comes over and questions his intent, they figure things out with their fists. He goes to work with Bethany and sticks with her before they figure out who broke into her place. Bethany loves it. She finally gets a man who is completely protective and devoted to her. It takes two to tangle. It is an over-the-top instalove story.

This is the second book of this series following Kane’s Kind Of Trouble. Tice is another former SEAL who is now partnered with Kane in their security business. He falls for Kane’s sister during his vetting process of Kane and she becomes his obsession. When Bethany calls Kane in tears saying someone broke into her house Tice grabs the phone to get her location and races to her. Love at first sight is a thing even when there’s danger. Bethany knows Tice will protect her after all obsession can go both ways.

Great book. Short sweet and a little dramatic with a wonderful romance.

Obsessive and ultra protective Tice is over Bethany. He is very over the top with her and a little scary how much he wants her. Bethany and Tice have that rare chemistry that pulls hot l you into the story.
Great writing and characters that work so well. Can't wait for the next book in the series.

Wow, with a protector like Tice on the scene, Bethany has no need to worry any more about her safety, especially when he has had plans to get to know her more than as just his friend’s younger sister.. A fast paced short story, second in the series that has the suspense of who did the break in at Bethany’s home and why but then also the steamy make out sessions as Bethany and Tice get together.
There was some fun reading especially where Bethany’s brother was involved.

The second book in this hot and spicy series definitely does not disappoint. It involves Tice, a friend of Kane (from the first book in the series) and Kane’s sister Bethany. Although they have never actually met Tice races to Bethany’s side when she calls her brother after her home is broken into.
Sparks fly as they get to know each other whilst Tice ensures her safety - if you want a hot quick read with lots of chemistry then this book is definitely for you.

Tice's story picks up where Kane's left off, Kane's sister in trouble. Tice is a man on a mission, get to Bethany, protect her and never let her go. The instant attraction between these two was very obvious, they felt a connection and neither one was willing to let go of it, even if Kane had something to say about it. I liked seeing them come together and be so in tune with each other, they had good support from friends and family and worked hard to get their HEA.

Bethany and Trice's story was fantastic. He comes to her aid when her house is broken into and he notices Kane's sister is panicking. Nothing stops him, and he does what his heart and Seal training dictate: protect, keep safe, and secure the one he loves most: Bethany. He's obsessed with her. And it doesn't take long for sparks to fly between them. A delightful story with characters who draw you into their lives.
