In a world without electricity, society has been reduced to chaotic and brutal bands of scavengers, hunters, and killers. When I started writing this book, I wasn't trying to express the grief I had been experiencing for two years after my husbands death. And I never thought I would write a love story. But 3/4 in to creating this story, I realized each character had parts of me and Lieutenant Quinn's love for his recruit Katherine 'Kat' Lee was the emotion, energy, and unconditional love that my husband had for me.
During their missions to survive militia, arms dealers, scavengers, and killers, they struggle like we all do with some level of mental demons, doubts, fears, guilt and regret. And sometimes it's hard to forgive one's self for past actions. But when that 'one' person comes along and understands, lets you be you, and gives you a safe space, healing can happen.
And so it is with both Quinn and Kat. One a hardened soldier and one a rebellious but strong willed young woman, together they connect and survive against the odds of a new dystopian world. A world where love is stronger than evil. And together two lost souls can find peace, unity, and self worth. In each other they have found their ONLY, that singular soul who is an exclusive necessary truth.
