Why Are You Fighting, Davy?

Rate this book
Davy is all set to sail the best bark boat he's ever built. He just needs Eddie to finish making the dam in the brook. Eddie gives the go-ahead, and Davy launches the boat. But the dam breaks and the boat is swept away. Davy is furious! His boat is gone, and it's all Eddie's fault. ""That's it, Eddie!"" he says. ""You're not my friend anymore. I never want to see you again. Never ever!"" But Davy soon discovers that playing alone isn't all that much fun. There must be some way to end the quarrel. In the sixth book featuring the endearing little rabbit Davy, Brigitte Weninger and Eve Tharlet deal with the ups and downs of true friendship with warmth and gentle humor.

Brigitte Weninger’s Why Are You Fighting, Davy? is a heartwarming and thoughtful children’s book that explores the themes of conflict resolution, friendship, and emotional intelligence. Through the lovable character of Davy, a young rabbit, Weninger delivers a relatable story that helps children understand why fights happen and how to make amends.

The story follows Davy and his friends as they find themselves in a disagreement that quickly escalates into a fight. As emotions run high, they learn valuable lessons about communication, empathy, and the importance of resolving conflicts peacefully. Weninger’s storytelling is simple yet effective, making it easy for young readers to grasp the message.

The book’s illustrations, beautifully rendered by Eve Tharlet, bring warmth and depth to the narrative. The soft, expressive artwork captures the characters’ emotions, helping children connect with the story on a deeper level.

One of the book’s greatest strengths is its gentle and non-preachy approach to conflict resolution. Instead of merely telling children that fighting is bad, it guides them through the natural emotions that arise during disagreements and offers practical ways to handle them. Parents and educators will appreciate how the book encourages open discussions about emotions, making it a great tool for teaching social skills.

If there’s any minor drawback, it’s that the resolution might feel a bit too tidy for some real-life conflicts children experience. However, for younger audiences, this simplicity makes the message clearer and easier to apply in their own lives.

Verdict: ★★★★★

A beautifully written and illustrated story that teaches children about conflict resolution in a gentle and relatable way. Perfect for parents and educators looking to encourage emotional growth in young readers.

Citate:

Davy's boat is destroyed and Eddie's dam is part of the cause. Eddie doesn't see this as a big deal and the two pals get in a fight. Shortly after they help each other and are back to being best friends.

The illustrations will keep me looking for more tales of Davy. I hate when I lose something I've been working on too, and sometimes friends are trouble in between lots of fun.
