The Dreamer and the Deep Space Warrior

Rate this book
Predator meets Bridgerton in this alien sci-fi romance.

Isobel Nott isn’t one to obey the rules of polite society.
With a marriage she doesn’t want looming ahead, she spends her remaining time as a spinster in quiet rebellion. Which is exactly how she finds herself in the woods at night investigating two flying objects that crash-land there. What she isn’t expecting to find are people—hulking, well-armored, and battling. When the victor throws her over his shoulder and carries her out of the self-destructing ship, her life is irrevocably changed.
Ved Qon Cleave is brutal and exacting. He has ensured that anything that could make him weak was destroyed long ago. But when he’s led into an ambush, dragged through a tear in space, and stranded on a planet far away, everything changes.
Isobel Nott shouldn’t know that he exists. And he certainly shouldn’t be drawn to her. Nothing good could come from such a connection—they don’t belong in each other’s worlds. His is harsh and brutal, hers is full of rules and manners.
As his enemies close in from all sides, he can’t afford to have any weaknesses.
But it may already be too late.

This was fantastic, loved the banter and the chemistry . The little AI interface bot was adorable and one of my favorite all time side characters. I love watching Isobel grow from feeling like an outcast to finding her place. Love how her and Zed SAW each other. Fantastic story and an epic romance ❤️ thanks to the author, publisher and netgalley for this arc.

I'm not sure what to do with myself now.

The bridgeton vibes crossed with scfi shouldn't go together... but it does. so, so well.

I didn't doubt I'd enjoy this, as I've read T.K Tucker's other series, and this one did not disappoint.

The longing and frustration (to see ved and the expectations of her) from Isobel created the perfect angst that kept me turning the page, wanting more and more!

Ved was brutally charming, and that warrior honour and possessiveness (that let's face it is the reason I wanted to read this book) delivered.

I have a feeling and hope that we may see more of them, and I'm very intrigued by Andrix - maybe the next instalment will be his arc?

Overall, this was a solid steamy scifi romance that, despite me trying to savour it, I just couldn't put down.

There are darker themes in some scenes, and the author does provide a solid content warning at the beginning.

I read this as an arc, and this is my honest review.

Bridgerton meets Star Trek in The Dreamer and Deep Space Warrior. Campy, fun, and way more entertaining than I expected. The second half really picks up, with a damsel-from-a-bodice-ripper thrown into deep space romance with an alien who (spoiler) doesn’t look entirely human. Clunky in spots and a little thin on world-building—some abrupt transitions and missing details about planets and space travel—but still a ride. And yes, the aliens are definitely packing. The starborn mate trope is here too, with all its mystery and longing.

ARC provided by NetGalley; no financial compensation.

I really enjoyed this book.

It was my first venture into the genre and it will not be my last, especially if it is by this author.

I read this in five hours, only stopping to eat and make some tea ( I feel like Isobel would have been ok with this ). I was hooked straight from the end of the first chapter. The story is fast paced and exciting. Never once feeling rushed.

The main characters Ved and Isobel were so well written and the way their relationship developed was perfect. Both characters had me smiling throughout the book and laughing out loud. Isobel was such a great FMC with a love of books, Tea, lavender, was not afraid to ask questions, and had a heart set on adventure . Ved’s was a mysterious Xaal warrior with a very different life. From his first meeting with Isobel to everything he learned and did for her (answering her questions, the dancing, reading her books, having her read to him?!?!) was so well developed. You could see these two progressing from natural curiosity of each other to more.

The side character were also great. Special shout outs to Clara and Exxo. Clara was a great character full of wit and spirit. Exxo was a witty and sometimes sarcastic AI that made me laugh out loud so many times, and I loved his relationship with both Ved and Isobel.

A definite five star rating for me. I can’t wait to see more from this author and/or series… perhaps Andrex popping back up again and finally taking Clara away to see the universe?! 👀

Massive thank you to Netgalley and Victory Editing for allowing me the ARC!

Every sci-fi romance fan needs to read this! It was so fantastic and so unique from anything I've read. T.X. Tucker utilized a lot of beloved tropes in Dreamer and the Deep Space Warrior, but in a way that inserted them so seamlessly. Oftentimes, when reading a romance book, I feel like the tropes are so haphazardly thrown in, there's a flashing red sign wherever they are, almost like product placement. Not this book! Every trope inserted in this book felt incredibly organic and necessary to the plot. As for the characters, they are so dear to me. For readers wanting a soft FMC in fantasy/sci-fi, Isobel is your girl! She reads, daydreams, bakes cookies, but is strong in her resilience and mindset. And our male love interest compliments her perfectly – a brutal, masculine, and violent warrior, who is also gentle and kind, and learns how he can be soft and vulnerable in his own way. I love discovering new authors through ARCS, and T.X. Tucker is one I'm so glad I've found!

RECENZIJA
The dreamer and the deep space warrior - T.K.Tucker
4⭐️
Sad me ovo potaknulo da ponovno pogledam taj film.
Uh što volim ovu hladnu jesen. Noć brzo pada, kreativa se budi.❤️

This book was in many ways not what I typically read, but regardless of that, I thought it was an unbelievably addicting story. I could not put this down and finished it in two days! Isobel and Ved’s love story had me in a literal chokehold. And shoutout to Exxo and Clara because they were Amazing supporting characters. I could honestly see them having their own books.

My favorite quote: “Romance ended in passionate kisses and happily ever afters. In ardent vows and unbreakable connections. They were a genre unto themselves.” It perfectly sums up the hidden gemification of this book. I do not know how the author blended regency era prose so naturally with science fiction atmosphere. She has freakin superpowers!

such an original storyline!

Wow, this book was fantastic! I’ve read hundreds of science fiction romances, but none of them told from this unique perspective. It really brought a difference that I absolutely totally enjoyed. I love that the author said that she created this story because she felt that Alien vs Predator should’ve been a romance. And after reading this book, I totally agree! Thank you to NetGalley for this advanced reader copy. All opinions are my own.

I loved this

I honestly loved every inch of this, but I ESPECIALLY loved that o could see so much of myself in Isobel. She’s so strong in her girlness and I love Veda’s love for her. I cannot wait to dive more into this world, and I hope a certain two characters are the next couple to meet!

This book was a great read! As a fan of both Science fiction and Historical romance, I knew this was right up my alley and was in within the first few pages.

We follow Ved, a warrior from another planet who breeds warriors alike, finds himself sucked into a tear in the universe while doing what he does best, battaling. Crash landing on a strange planet, here he meets Isbobel, our other main character. Isobel is an outcast and happily not within the high society her brother and her niece are involved in. She would much rather be in her lavender gardens or reading a book. Our main characters are vastly different, and that piques Isobel's curiosity to learn more about this deep-space traveler, let alone how it is even possible to travel in space.

I think the author did a great job with the plot and character development, particularly in the way the characters' interest in one another unfolds. I honestly ate this book up! I believe this is a part of a series, and I am down and have T.K. Tuker on my radar for more of their work!

A super cute Predator meets Bridgerton story!

I never knew I needed to experience what a budding romance would be like between an alien warrior and a woman from the Regency era, but I'm very glad that I did. Isobel and Ved's contrasting lives, awkward encounters, and overall entertaining banter all pulled me in to wanting to read more. I'm a pretty slow reader, but I finished it in 3 days to my own astonishment.

I really enjoyed the world building, introduction of other species or characters, and learning more about the Xaal language, which further helped immerse myself in the story. I appreciate that Isobel isn't ever described as being weak, but always described as being gentle and inquisitive. I found myself wanting to know more about Ved myself!

Overall, I loved the book. I'm a huge fan of Predator, Alien, Mass Effect, and other sci-fi media, so this book was right up my alley and exactly the kind of story I was looking for. I'm literally shaking with anticipation for the next one lol.

I received a copy of this book as an ARC read on NetGalley! It was my first and it will probably continue to be my favorite.

Mini review: It’s 2:15am and I need sleep, but I also just finished this book and need to let the world know I loved it while I’m still riding the high of finishing it!!

Spoiler!!

For the first maybe 1/3 of the book I genuinely thought I wasn’t going to enjoy it, I didn’t know what to make of it, I thought maybe 3 ⭐️ at best, nope, I was wrong! Quickest I’ve ever wanted to rate a book after finishing 🙌🏻

The story, it has so many twists and turns. The writing, I loved. The spice, chefs kiss 💋

I will come back and update my review to be more coherent and well structured, but for now just know that if sci-fi romance, forbidden love, regency and muscle bound visitors from outer space are your thing, don’t even hesitate to pick this up.

Thank you so much to NetGalley and T.K Tucker for giving me the opportunity to ARC read this absolute gem!

Isobel & Ved = 🥹💚

I cannot wait to see what the rest of the series brings ☺️

This author looked at sci-fi and Regency and said, “Why not mash them together?” And honestly, why not? Out came this glorious Frankenstein of a novel, and I devoured every bit of it.

Ved has spent his life being as impenetrable as possible (the stronger the qon, the stronger the clan). Isobel has never quite fit in with high society and longs for more. When Ved literally falls from the stars, her quiet dreams turn into startling reality.

This was such a quick, unique read. Was it perfect? No. Did I love every second anyway? Absolutely. The main characters are ridiculously endearing, even with Ved being a terrifying (but surprisingly vulnerable) alien warrior hellbent on a blood vendetta and Isobel being a Regency gentlewoman just trying to live her live as more than chattel.

What really sealed it for me were the little moments: Isobel sneaking off with her salacious romance novels…and Ved eating them up just as eagerly. Isobel baking lavender cookies…and Ved (who would definitely count his macros if that was a thing in his universe) demolishing the entire batch. HOW do you not fall in love with them? 😭

And listen, I need Clara and Andrex in book two. Or book three. Or anywhere. Just give me more of this world, please and thank you.

Quick takeaways:
✨ Sassy AI companion = chef’s kiss
✨ There be knots (yes, the fun kind)
✨ I’m blue da ba dee da ba di
✨ Fated mates 😭

The Dreamer and the Deep Space Warrior is for anyone who wants something both familiar and fresh. Classic romance bones with a cosmic twist.

Thank you to NetGalley, Victory Editing NetGalley Co-op, and T.K. Tucker for the ARC. This review is voluntary, but all opinions (and crying emojis) are my own.

Ved (the deep space warrior) and Isobel (the dreamer) are brought together, torn apart, and fight til the end for their love. I devoured this story in one evening and am already preordering the paperback as a trophy!

The start was a bit confusing with Veds POV and a lot of alien words that I didn't understand, but the first half of the novel takes place on what I can only assume is an earth-adjacent planet so we come to understand his words slowly while he adopts English.

The last 120 pages takes place on distant planets and that's where the adventure really picks up; betrayal, abduction in the night, a twist I thought I saw coming that was actually (thankfully) wrong!

All in all the characters are lovable, well fleshed out, and the storyline is a classic romance novel just like the ones Isobel loves to read. My favorite part was the alien AI known as EXXO, who really stole the show with comedic timing and great explanations for the more alien concepts.

I haven't found a book by this author I haven't loved so definitely eager to read more once they're released!

TK Tucker’s The Dreamer and the Deep Space Warrior was such a unique and fun mash-up of genres, think Bridgerton meets Predator and it actually works. Isobel, a regency spinster determined to carve her own path, finds herself entangled with Ved, a broody sci-fi alien whose presence brings both danger and intrigue. I loved how the story blended the elegance and social tensions of historical romance with the action, mystery, and wild energy of alien romance. Their relationship growth was sweet, funny, and surprisingly heartfelt, making this such a delightful read. It left me excited to dive deeper into TK Tucker’s catalog!

Predator meats Bridgerton is the perfect way to describe this! And I was curious on how it would work, but it was done beautifully! This gives your the Alexa x Scar romance you'd wish they'd done in Alien vs Predator.

Isobel was so adorable and brave, a perfect mashup in my FMCs. Ved was stoic, brash, but so sweet to Isobel. Exactly how I like my MMCs. They blended so well together that not even their outside battles could break them apart.

We got a nice blend of both their worlds and a basic understanding on how things worked. I get lost easily in sci-fi reads a lot so this was refreshing.

I love T.K. Tucker's previous works and this one didn't disappoint!

🛸🛸🛸🛸🛸/5. ARC Review

This book grabbed. me. by. the. throat.
I will be screaming about it for a while.
It had me giggling, blushing, and holding my chest.
I genuinely don’t remember the last time I read something so beautifully written.

Who knew that Alien x Regency Romance would become my new religion?
——————————————————————————————
“I’ve spent my entire life dreaming. I dreamt I was in another world, that I was someone else. That I could find true love like in the stories I read. Because I knew none of that was possible, there were even times I dreamed about not existing at all. You have made dreams a reality. I’ve fallen in love with you. I’m in another world.”

🪐🪐🪐🪐🪐

——————————————————————————————

Isobel is a sharp, brave, feral FMC who doesn’t fit into the world around her. Her family wants her to marry Lord Dick (yes), but all she wants is more. Romance novels. Possibility. Stars. Something to feel like hers.

Then a spaceship crashes into her backyard. And in that spaceship: Ved.

A grumpy, stoic, alien warrior who thinks emotions are a weakness —
until Isobel throws a romance book at his face and starts unraveling his entire existence.

Ved eats lavender cookies.
He reads her romance novels to understand her better.
He protects her like it’s a vow.
And eventually… he kneels.
(And I screamed.)

This is not your standard alien/monster romance.
It’s devastatingly tender.
A soft, gorgeous, slow-burn that remakes the entire galaxy with every page.

Okay… who gave this author the audacity to smash Predator and Bridgerton together and somehow make it WORK?! I went in thinking, alien romance? not my jam. I stayed because apparently I am weak for a hulking, armour-clad alien who against his better judgement befriends a human, who bakes and brings him gifts! By chapter four I went from skeptical to hooked faster than Ved went from “humans are weak” to “actually this one is mine."

I absolutely adored Isobel, her strength, sharp wit, and the way she shoulders the weight of an arranged marriage she doesn’t want made her so easy to root for.....and Ved Qon Cleave (yes, that’s actually his name, not the latest IKEA flat-pack wardrobe) is the perfect mix of terrifying space warlord and secretly-soft-when-it-comes-to-her.

Special shout-out to the little details that made this book unforgettable: Exxo, the AI with attitude, the whole “locking” situation (yes, THAT kind of alien biology 👀) and the deliciously starborn (fated) mates tension. This book had perfectly balanced spice, enough to make me blush, but not so much that I needed an intermission and a glass of water.

This book is ridiculous in the best way possible, equal parts banter, battles, and bodice-ripping (literally, because alien hands don’t mess around). If you’ve ever thought, “What if Jane Austen wrote Alien vs. Predator after one too many glasses of wine?” … this is your book.

I absolutely cannot wait to read more about this universe!

Thanks to NetGalley and Victory Editing for a copy of this ARC and letting me go on this Sci-Fi adventure.

4.4-5 This was a pretty good read, entertaining and with well-written prose. I highlighted a whole lot of passages just from how lovely the words were, and the descriptions. Just when things would tither on slow, it ramped up with a new bit of action. The hero and heroine are interesting and likeable. I'd have liked to see more of the historical setting used, her daily life and her family interactions, plus a bigger push of more romance in the middle to develop their relationship that felt a lot more on the cusp of reaching its depth (so 20-40 more pages of more relationship-building events and emotions?), but it was still an enjoyable read with a well-developed romance and not rushed. Their draw to each other felt natural and their chemistry strong.

I also had some questions about how time flowed. When it comes to space travel, it's often the case that days on earth are years or vice versa!

I'd love to see Clara's story; her niece is just as spunky as her and deserves her happily ever after! There were enough open threads to continue on, which i'm sure it will, and I'll continue reading this series.

I read “scifi meets Bridgerton” & immediately downloaded the ebook.

Right away the reader gets a good idea of how violence is heavily embedded into Ved’s culture, which I liked. Isobel is introduced as a modern rebel of the ton, a woman with too many opinions & too much curiosity for what British society considers proper for a lady.

The characters individually were fine, but their connection was lacking for me. It the typical scenario where there’s obvious interest between the two that’s born of curiosity, but there was an absence of emotional, more personal interactions. Couple of times it was mentioned that “days passed,” which annoyed me because I wanted to witness more of their conversations.

I DNF’d at 40ish%, so I’m not sure if they remained on Earth for the remainder of the story, but the part I read was boring me a bit, since the relationship wasn’t doing anything for me & the plot also wasn’t going anywhere.

Who would have thought that combining Predator and Bridgerton would result in such an exciting and fun read! Full of sweetness, romance and passion, but also action, adventure and tension.

This book was such an easy and pleasant read. The writing style is lovely, the pacing was great. I loved Isobel and how much she grew through the story. I'd definitely read another book about these two. I'm so nervous, but excited for her future.

There were so many great romantic moments and you could really see their relationship build as they spent more time together and went through different things. This has been a bit lacking in a few of my recent reads, so it was really refreshing not to have the instalove! There was definitely instant interest, but the growth of their relationship felt organic.

I really enjoyed this one! :)

This book was really wonderful. I already knew it would be good because T. K. is an excellent writer and I have read her other books. I was a bit on the fence with the Alien/human pairing at first. Never read one like that before but of course, T. K. did it masterfully as always. She has a way of writing emotion that makes them feel so real. I mean sometimes in "real life" I have trouble feeling my own emotions but when I read her work, I feel everything deeply. Just like I am the character in the book. I related so much to Isobel and her feelings of being trapped and like she doesn't belong. I cried and I laughed. I was so absorbed in the story that when I would stop reading, I wouldn't be able to stop thinking about the characters and what would happen next in the book. Masterpiece! That's what it is.

Loved the idea! And I can't help but see the resemblance of the cover with PREDATOR 2's main characters. While I adored the idea, a few chapters in and I struggled to get into it.

Thankfully, it wasn't YA and had very adult scenes that didn't leave me breathless or holding onto my seat. The chemistry and connection between the MCs while plenty of readers attested to being sweet, I agree although I found myself...bored.

Maybe I got impatient but I was waiting for a connection, but still couldn't appreciate the characters and their perhaps 'slow-burn' romance? There's only 2 kinds of alien sci-fi that I know of, the one that's insta-love or close enough to it, OR the one that gives plenty of mystery, has angst, good sexual tension and characters who really make an impact.

Obviously, this falls into the former category for me.

This book had the most unlikely worlds colliding - think the polite, proper society of Bridgerton meets Predator. And oh my god does it work. It is hilarious trying to watch these individuals from such differing worlds trying to navigate not only communicating with each other but also figuring out the other's societal norms. The most unbelievable part of this entire book - the aliens, the different worlds out there, alien and human falling in love - was the delusional spicy scene that was Isobel's first time being with this hulking alien. Despite this, I love them. I found Isobel hilarious and relatable, and Ved surprisingly charming. I loved this book and will definitely be reading more from this author! Thanks Netgalley for the e-ARC!

I saw the promotion on TikTok and was interested because of the “AVP” call out. It’s Bridgerton meets Ice Planet Barbarians more than Predator but I do see where the author was trying to immolate that.

I thought the story was good, and the main characters were likeable. There were some good moments throughout the book and I did overall enjoy it.

Everything else was sort of one and done for me, and I didn’t feel compelled to want to immediately go buy the book itself. I sort of feel that this was a very loose inspiration of Yautjas or Predators, besides they’re both masked warriors from outer space. This may be great for people who like ICB, but if you’re a predator fan, you will be disappointed.

If you loved the Clecanian series BUT you also love some bridgerton era vibes, this one is for you.
Thank you Netgalley for this e- arc!!!
It's super sweet, a little bit spicy (but if you know you know the alien spice is the best), it's got action scenes, dance scene. The FMC is a dreamer, she longes for an epic love story, she's independant. The MMC is a moody violent warrior, territorial with his woman and becomes the sweetest. The pace is really good, not too fast, not too slow, the worldbuilding is great.
Overall I recommend this one 100% if you love scifi romance !!

I like that this book took a different approach to the typical human female meets alien and falls in love. Instead of modern day earth it take place more in regency/vicotian/whatever it's called era. Yet the woman is fairly accepting of a spaceship crashlanding practically in her back yard. Both main characters are pretty likable in my opinion. I thought the first half was promising, and the ending was pretty good. but there was a chunk in there in the middle that felt a bit too much like exactly what I don't like from scifi romance. 3 stars for being ok, just not my thing.
