Highly recommend this book for someone in transition or who is lonely. I’ve been happily retired but found myself starting to isolate after losing friends to moves or passing away. I found this book to be just what I needed to get out and meet new people.
I loved how the author gave challenges and specific ideas with most topics There are also useful links at the end of chapters. The book is written in a conversational way so it’s like talking to a friend. It’s well organized and full of enthusiasm.
Just a few things that I’ve started doing with the help of this book. • Listed things I like and found groups to do them with. • Joined a group that meets weekly for cards. • Hosted a potluck with my new friends. • I love the walking for mindfulness idea. I live near a river so I changed my route to include the river walk. • Emotional wellness through art. Pulled out my photos and decided to make a wall hanging of my cats, and another of my travel adventures. • Always loved pottery so took a pottery class. Hated it but made new friends.
I’m looking forward to trying more of the author’s suggestions and ideas.
I live in the same city as the author, Cuenca, Ecuador. I lead a pretty active social life but this read opened my eyes to many other possibilities to keep me busy in my retirement years. If you are already, or thinking about moving abroad, your eyes will be opened to many possibilities and answers to many questions that are on your mind. You will also be surprised by many ideas that have never crossed your mind. Again, thanks Rick.
