He broke her heart in high school, and these days he’s her coworker, as well as the expert on getting on her nerves.
She earned his resentment, too, all those years ago, and now she’s a regular pain in his ass that he can never ignore.
Forgive, forget, and find a way to get along? Not these two.
Until a threat arises with Maggie in its sights, that is. Then Luke is someone whose foot she’d like to stomp on and he’s the only person who can help her—but for him to do that, they’ll have to agree to the unthinkable.
A fake relationship between a couple of people who can’t stand each other because their first relationship got wrecked. What could go wrong?
…Or maybe the question should be, ‘What could go right?’
Because sometimes, things find room to change. Sometimes, people are given an unexpected second chance—and sometimes, so is love.
Maggie and Luke have long believed their future was ruined by their past. Now they’ll have to decide whether they want to stay fallen apart or take the leap to fall back together.
K. L. Cottrell is a writer of romance. She loves turning daydreams, real-life experiences, and unexpected moments of inspiration into something she can use to bring both healing and entertainment to herself and others. She loves reading, has an addiction to music (and to her husband), is a child at heart, and could eat Tex-Mex every day of her life.
I LOVED reading Maggie and Luke’s story. It’s lovers to enemies to lovers, fake dating, slow burn, protective mmc, self-love, the BEST friendships, a touch of miscommunication (or non-communication), no third act break up, and all the gummy worms.
Maggie and Luke have history, they’ve broken each other’s hearts and never got the closure that they needed. They work together and barely tolerate each other but when Maggie finds herself in a scary and potentially dangerous situation they agree to ignore their past so Luke can help Maggie feel safe.
These two had me all up in my feels. I laughed, I yelled at them, I swooned, I wanted to punch certain characters *cough* Kyle *cough* and hug others and tell them it’s going to be ok.
K’s writing style is delicious, it’s so full of heart it makes me want to devour her words every time.
Congratulations K on writing another masterpiece that continues to live rent free in my head (and heart)
K. L. Cottrell did it again! Maggie and Luke’s story is one of her best to date. A second chance, enemies to lovers romance, Falling Backwards is incredibly well written and a beautiful story. Maggie and Luke are absolutely everything! HIGHLY RECOMMEND
Such a delightfully sweet and heartwrenching story. I enjoyed following Maggie and Luke on their journies of self-discovery. Maturing, learning, and falling in love are so painful, funny, and lovely for them. You can really feel their deep understandings of themselves and each other growing on every page. Truly a wonderful read.
I just finished Falling Backwards and I genuinely loved this book so much. The romance was emotional, heartfelt, and filled with so much yearning that I could feel every moment building between the characters. The slow tension, the longing, and the way they kept finding their way back to each other made it impossible to put down. That yearning is honestly one of the biggest reasons I chose to give this book 5 stars. What made the story even more special to me was the relationship between the characters. They truly cared for each other in a deep and meaningful way, especially during the hardest moments. I loved seeing him stand up for her and be there for her in her time of need instead of walking away when things got difficult. Their relationship felt supportive, protective, and real, which made me even more emotionally invested in their story. This book balanced heartbreak, healing, vulnerability, and love beautifully. I would absolutely recommend Falling Backwards to anyone who loves emotional romance stories with strong character growth, genuine connection, and a love story that stays with you long after you finish reading. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
