A swoony billionaire, brother’s best friend romance from USA Today Bestselling Author J.H. Croix!
Nash Reynolds is every woman’s dream. Just not mine.
We’re talking tall, devastatingly hot, richer than sin, with a brain that could rule the world—and that Southern drawl? It could melt steel.
But I’m not every woman, and those aren’t my toes curling. Nope. Definitely not.
I don’t do charming. I don’t do complicated. And I definitely don’t do men like Nash—men who come sweeping in just when I’m trying to piece my life back together.
My ex taught me love makes you stupid, and depending on a man only ends in disaster. So why does Nash keep showing up when I need him most?
Why does his smile make me forget how to breathe? Why do I catch myself wondering… what if?
He’s tempting, maddening, and just maybe, worth the risk.
Because sometimes love isn’t a trap. Sometimes it’s the easiest thing in the world.
For readers who 💘 Sassy meets protective 🔥 Southern charmer with a sinful smirk ⛔ Love after betrayal 🧯 Off-limits (but oh-so-tempting) 🛠️ He shows up when she needs him most
*A full-length, standalone romance.
An earlier version of Mine This Time was previously published as Easy This Time as part of the Boudreaux Universe. It has been out of publication since Dec 2021.
USA Today bestselling author J. H. Croix writes emotionally charged, steamy small town Alaska romance featuring protective firefighter and first responder heroes with big hearts and smart, strong heroines. Best known for her interconnected series set in Willow Brook, Alaska, Croix creates immersive fictional communities where the town itself becomes a character and found family is at the heart of every love story.
Mari is left blindsided when her boyfriend leaves her in a B & B in New Orleans, without paying the bill, paid the bill. Nash is Mari’s brother’s best friend, and she heads to Nash’s office to try and fine Brett. Brett is there when she needs him the most, as they try and work through the mess he left behind. This is a well written story which is a slow burn, easy to read story, with family, friendships, emotions, suspense, challenges, trust, betrayal, temptation, off limits, making choices, undeniable chemistry, and love, which leads to an entertaining, addictive page turner. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.
Mine This Time by JH Croix is a Willow Brook adjacent book, Mari’s brother, Max, lived there, part-time, married to a firefighter named Harlow. Mari woke up to find her boyfriend gone. Where had he gone this early? As she came awake she saw his things were gone, too, and when she went downstairs she was told he had left, without paying the bill, of course. He had chosen the B&B they were at. It had been his idea. Mari had thought the trip was to reawaken their floundering relationship. Now, this? Thankfully she still had his calendar app on her phone and he hadn’t logged out. She discovered his last appointment and resolved to track him there and see what the deal was. When she arrived at Nash’s office, he was immediately taken with her and offered to help. He knew her brother; they had done business together. He knew Brett also, had kicked him out of his office. The man was a scammer. He gave her a place to stay in one of his corporate condos and she got in touch with her editor to get an assignment so she could earns some money. The more they investigated, the worse things got.
Nash wasn’t one of romance. For one, he was too busy. But he loved New Orleans, his home, and he enjoyed showing it to Mari. He was a good man, honest to the core, and knew they would have to call her brother; she knew it, too. Mari had tried for years to be independent of her older, wealthier brother, but she eventually went running back. She had notoriously bad taste in men and that had cost her. They were both falling in love, but struggling against it. She had an ally in her sister-in-law, Harlow, who kept reminding Max that this was her life. This is a terrific book. Different, taking place in New Orleans. Different because of the danger Mari was in. Not different in that the relationship was physical and wild, and the love was growing. Good characters. Great plot. Another Croix hit!
I was invited to read Mine This Time by the author through Bookfunnel. All thoughts and opinions are mine. #Bookfunnel #JHCroix #MineThisTime
This is a Standalone Romance Book and it is Mari and Nash’s story and omg it is definitely a must read. When Mari’s boyfriend suggested they had some time away in New Orleans she decided to go only for everything to go totally sideways when he left and took all of her money while also maxing out all of her cards which left her penny less and in a complete bind with no money or any where to stay including no way home and then she met Nash and things started to change and turn around for her. When Nash met Mari he was instantly attracted to her but his main concern was everything that she was going through so he was determined to help her in anyway that he could especially as Nash and Mari’s brother knew each other and had done some work together. The attraction and chemistry between Mari and Nash grew stronger and when they shared there first kiss it was absolutely explosive and the more time that they spent together the stronger there feelings for each other grew but danger was just around the corner watching and waiting for the right time to strike leaving Marin’s life still on hold while everything is sorted out so where does that leave Marni and Nash in the long run. Marni and Nash are so good together and perfect for each other but relationships have many different ups and downs leaving you wondering if they can find there way back to each other and eventually have the future together that they both want and deserve in the end. This book will take you on a rollercoaster ride of so many different emotions and you will experience all of what they are feeling as if you are there with them and living through it all. I couldn’t put this book down and I have to say that I read it all in one sitting and it is one of my favourite books by this author. I definitely recommend you read this book and you will not be disappointed.
I always get excited when it’s time to read a new J.H. Croix book!
Mari is in New Orleans for a much needed getaway, when her loser boyfriend, Brett leaves her stranded. Now she doesn’t know what she’s going to do. She did know she wasn’t going to call her brother Max to bail her out of this situation!
Nash is a friend of her brother Max, and Mari goes to see him because she found out Brett was going to try and scam Nash into a fake investment plan, and Mari thought that perhaps Nash might know where Brett is. When he looks at Mari, it takes his breath away. Brett certainly is an idiot if he left Mari stranded!
As for a place to stay since she has no money, Nash suggests she stay in one of the condos in his building while she figures things out. And it doesn’t take Nash long to realize that he really wants her to stay! When it looks like Mari might be in trouble because of Brett, Nash goes into protective mode.
Things start moving between them…and at one point she decides she needs to have some time to work out her feelings. He gives her some time…and then he finally goes after her! He needs to show her that he’s all in on this relationship. He calls Max and his wife, Harlow takes the phone from him and tells Nash to meet Mari at the airport in Seattle. He meets her at the airport and she is so happy to see him she swears she hears the heavens sing!
Sometimes you meet someone and realize they are exactly what you didn’t know you were looking for. Nash found his someone and he was never letting her go!
This was a most excellent book! The characters are awesome and the writing is superb. I encourage you to go ahead and get this book…you are going to love it! Another winning book for the incomparable J.H. Croix!.

This captivating book touched my heart, made me laugh and took my breath away. When Mari is betrayed and left financially devastated by her boyfriend, it is Nash, a friend of her brother, who steps in to help. Handsome, charming, protective and super sexy, Nash is most definitely a guy any woman would want by her side. Mari is still reeling from her ex and trusting any man again doesn’t seem possible. Oh she is attracted all right, and kissing Nash is divine, but opening her heart again ….not going to happen. When Nash keeps showing up for her, especially when he ex reappears and brings danger into her life, Mari’s resistance begins to fade. Soon enough his kisses are everything she could want. Despite his friendship with her brother and a warning by a concerned friend, Nash is done being a gentleman when it comes to kissing and touching Mari. That doesn’t mean everything is smooth sailing from then on, though, as Mari’s trust issues come into play.
I loved Mari and Nash’s scorching chemistry, their connection and their banter. Her stubborn, feisty I-will-survive attitude is so enjoyable. So is his protectiveness and southern gentleman manners and charm. I very much appreciated the way the author blended humour, suspense and romance. I didn’t want to put this extraordinary book down and I am very happy to recommend it.
Nash and Mari's story is, in my opinion, one of the best books by J.H. Croix to date. I had a really hard time putting the book down because the plot is quite twisted and kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time. Part thriller, part romance novel, part rom-com, this book had me either holding my breath, swooning madly, or laughing out loud. Nash is the epitome of a Southern gentleman, and Mari, with her torn feelings after breaking up with her ex, is his perfect counterpart. Their story is explosive from the start, fast-paced yet romantic, full of mixed emotions, suspense, witty banter, and laugh-out-loud moments that kept me glued to the pages. Their chemistry and passion for each other are out of this world that I often felt like an intruder just reading their story, lol. I absolutely love these strong, warm-hearted, and authentic characters and was really, really sad—not to say disappointed—when their fantastic story came to an end. I wish they weren't just fictional characters, because I would love to meet and get to know them in person. Mine This Time is top-notch entertainment and a page-turner par excellence, and I wish there were more stories by Ms. Croix set in New Orleans so I could meet these phenomenal characters again and learn more about their lives.
This is a great romantic suspense story set in New Orleans. Mari and her boyfriend, Brett, have gone to New Orleans to get reconnected after not really being together for a few months. But she wakes up to an empty place next to her and all of his things gone. Not only that but she finds out that he has cleared out her bank account and used all her credit on her cards. She remembers that he was to meet with an investor, Nash. She looks up his address to see if Brett has been there. Nash meets her and has an instant attraction to her. Unfortunately, he figured out that Brett was a scammer and didn't invest in his scheme. Nash takes Mari to lunch and finds out that she doesn't have a place to stay so he puts her up in one of his empty apartments. As they work together, Nash and Mari get to know each other. They begin to have feelings for each other. Brett isn't gone since he has put Mari in danger. This story has such wonderful descriptions of the areas around New Orleans that I could really see the places. I liked how Nash felt protective of Mari and immediately began to take care of her and figure out how to fix her problems without being overbearing. I received an early copy to read and review by Booksprout. I'm leaving my honest review.
Mari wakes up at their weekend retreat in New Orleans to discover her boyfriend gone. Leaving her penniless in a strange city. Fortunately the handsome and charming Nash is available to help.
"I managed a tight smile. I forced my feet to move because I couldn’t let myself get caught in the quicksand of Nash’s melting hot eyes. They made my body go a little crazy."
Nash, a local self-made real estate billionaire is enchanted by Mari and he gives her the Southern gentleman version of a generous helping hand.
"Being born and raised in New Orleans, my manners had been drilled into me by my mama. She always said manners were like butter— that they made every moment a little bit better just the way butter made food better."
This story is packed with intrigue, betrayal and danger plus a budding romance, but will it get off the ground?
Being set mainly in New Orleans, this is a departure for the author. A well calculated departure as the description, sounds and smell of the city were beautifully captured.
Despite the antics of Kendall's ex and the serious topics resulting from that, this book left me with a strengthened faith in human kindness. This is definitely one of my favourite books from this author.
I really enjoyed this story! It pulled me in from beginning to end and held my attention throughout the story. I loved getting to know Mari and Nash and seeing them get through everything that was being thrown. Mari meets Nash at a time where she could really use some help, though she is leery about it considering the betrayal that she just went through with her ex. Nash is a billionaire and seeing the situation that Mari is in, he wants to help. He is instantly drawn to her and wants more but he wants to help her first. I loved his protective southern charm as he is a great southern gentleman. I enjoyed seeing them get to know each other and navigating the budding feelings in the midst of the situations that they find themselves in. When things start to balance out and it looks like things are good to go, another twist gets thrown in as all the trouble Mari's ex caused her, isn't over quite yet. I thought this story did a great job of blending the relationship and plot together well. It is a bit of rom com mixed with a little action/suspense and was an entertaining story. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
To say Mari is down on her luck is a bit vague but when you wake up on holiday and the person you went with has just up and vanished, taking all your money with them, I don't know what else to call it.
What was supposed to be a re-connect and a fun vacation quickly takes a turn. Determined to find him, she follows his calendar to Nash's office looking for him. Nash is quick to see the struggles that Mari is having and wants to step in and help her. Knowing her older brother, he feels like stepping in is the right thing to do.
As Mari take one hit after another thanks to her now ex-boyfriend, Nash seems to be in the right place at the right time. When he offers her a place to stay while she sorts through things, she reluctantly agrees. The more time she spends with Nash the more pull is there for her to give in and enjoy, but isn't it too soon?
Grab your copy and see if Mari overcomes her disaster in New Orleans. Maybe it was all meant to happen that way and the busy business mogul might just get the girl also.

Mari is stranded in New Orleans when her ex leaves her in the middle of the night, maxes out her credit cards, leaves her footing the bill for the Inn they were staying in and to top it of, gets a refund on her plane ticket so he could get the money. Luckily she met Nash, a man her ex was meeting while there and goes to Nash’s office to find the no good ex. Nash is instantly drawn to Mari, he knows her brother through business and offers her help with a place to stay and to track her ex down, especially when they figure out that he has gotten her involved in a dangerous gang and Nash vows to protect her no matter what...what happens when it’s all over. A great read that has all the feels and little to no drama between the couple, steam, a bit of suspense and amazing characters that I couldn’t get enough of. I loved Nash, he was sweet, down to earth, patient and didn’t run away from his feelings. Mari was independent, too independent and too stubborn at times that I wanted to shake her but I did like the little to no drama with her and the ending in the airport. *I voluntarily read an advanced copy and expressed my honest opinion*

J.H. Croix once again delivers an unmissable romance with Mine This Time—a perfectly delicious billionaire, brother’s best friend love story that hits all the right notes.
Billionaire Nash Reynolds, with his irresistible Southern charm, is the kind of hero who’ll have your toes curling from the very first page. Add in Mari—witty, sassy, and still reeling from a devastating betrayal—and sparks fly in the most intoxicating way.
What makes this story even more addictive is the suspense woven seamlessly into the romance, along with banter that’s equal parts playful and heartfelt. Mari isn’t looking for love after the hurt she’s endured, but when Nash steps in to protect his best friend’s sister, hearts are put on the line and everything gets deliciously complicated.
If you love protective heroes who show up when it matters most, sizzling chemistry, and the magic of finding love after heartbreak, then Nash and Mari’s story is going to steal your heart.

Will Mari run from her feelings for Nash? Will Nash go after Mari and lay his heart on the line? Will Mari realize Brett did her a favor by deserting her in New Orleans, so she could find Nash? I enjoyed Mine This Time by J.H. Croix. Nash and Mari are a great couple with amazing chemistry. I would definitely recommend getting Mine This Time by J.H. Croix. Mari finds herself left in New Orleans alone by her scheming boyfriend. She meets Nash in the process of trying to find out where her boyfriend has gone and remembered that her boyfriend had Nash put into his calendar for the day. Mari finds out that her now ex boyfriend has maxed out her credit cards, cancelled her lease in San Francisco, and cashed in her return flight for the refund. Nash helps her out with a place to stay as well as offering to show her the sights around town. In the process, they realize her ex has borrowed money from a lone shark and has now placed her in danger. As their feelings grow for one another in a short time, Mari wonders if it was too quick of a relationship to go anywhere.
I felt like I was in New Orleans with this book and the descriptions by the author. I loved the slow burn of the characters as well as the ending. Couldn’t put the book down!.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
The book starts with Mari, the main female character, spending some time with her so called boyfriend in New Orleans. However, all is not what it seems and things deteriorate pretty quickly for Mari. Although in a desperate situation, she is determined to work things out which leads her to Nash Reynolds. He then turns up at most opportune moments and proves to be just what Mari needs. He can’t keep away from her either! As well as the developing romance between the two main characters, there’s also some mystery with an element of danger and tension thrown in. As “Mine This Time” is set in New Orleans, it took me a little while to adjust as the previous books I’ve read by this author have been set in Willow Brook and Fireweed, Alaska. Having said that, I was pleased when I discovered there was a link between the two locations!
Thank you for the early copy and I have chosen to leave a review.
Mari is left in New Orleans by her boyfriend, Brett without paying for their bed and breakfast room. He has also run up all her credit cards and fraudulently opened more in her name. Mari discovered that Brett had a meeting with Nash during this trip so she went to see him to see if he knew where Brett was now. However, Nash had met with Brett about a possible investment but sent him on his way without a deal being made. Nash is also a business acquaintance of Mari's older brother, Max. When Mari finds out Brett has cancelled her return flight to San Francisco and that she has lost her home too, Nash offers her some staff accommodation while she tries to sort out her life and he and Max make sure Brett pays for his treatment of Mari. There is undeniable chemistry between Nash and Mari despite it being totally the wrong time to start a relationship. But as their feelings for each other develop they both realise they definitely have a future together.
Mine This Time Is Nash and Mari’s romantic suspense set in New Orleans. It’s a well written, captivating read that I quickly became invested in. Mari believes she is in New Orleans to reconnect with her boyfriend Brett but she wakes up to a cold bed, bank accounts empty and a return ticket home that’s been cashed in for a refund……. Mari contacts Nash because she remembers Brett had an appointment with him and she is shocked when she is told Nash believes Brett is a scammer but he offers to help and she isn’t in a position to turn help down. The attraction is instant and it’s not before feelings come into lay but will Mari take another chance on love. What follows is an entertaining read with characters I fell hard and fast for. I swooned, I smiled and I sat on the edge of my seat as I cheered for this couple but more importantly I was left smiling after this quick and engaging story.
We thoroughly enjoyed the story featuring Mari and Nash, which had a sweet meet-cute vibe. The focus on their developing romance, fueled by explosive chemistry, was engaging. Despite facing heartbreak, Mari's character remained strong and focused on seeking answers and ensuring her safety.
Mari's character was portrayed as sweet, genuine, kind, loving, and fiercely independent, with sparks of fire in her personality.
Nash shared similar qualities, and their connection was intense and passionate. Nash's respectful and knight-in-shining-armor demeanor added to his swoon-worthy character. The involvement of Max and Harlow, with Harlow's humor, added depth to the story. Hannah's sweet nature was also a highlight.
The story beautifully portrayed the idea that something beautiful can emerge from tragedy. Mari's resilience and determination not to let her past define her were inspiring. Overall, the story was a heartwarming tale of love and strength.
Oh my. After a few distanced months Mari’s boyfriend asks her to go away for a weekend. Then ghosts her, leaves her with the bill, and basically wreaks havoc on all her finances. Brett’s phone is “no longer in service”. Her brother Max is quite well off, but she doesn’t want to bother him.
Mari goes to the last appointment she knew Brett had, to a Nash Reynolds. He knows Mari’s brother Max, and had done a background check on Brett, so had refused to deal with him. He sees her distress and offers to give her a place to stay and a tour of New Orleans.
We have quaint diners, hospitable bars, and beautiful vistas. There is also much more going on than either knows.
A rapport builds, but they are from different worlds and different parts of the country. An entertaining read.
***** I am voluntarily leaving my honest review of this book *****
Mari wakes up in an empty hotel room after she finds her boyfriend must have left in the middle of the night and it’s like he vanished off planet earth. After doing some digging she finds herself at Nash Reynolds real-estate office. Nashe had actually received a visit this morning from him about a job offer. Nash didn’t waste his time on him because he knew he was not on the up and up. When Nash hears Mari’s story, he feels the need to help her especially when he finds out he and her brother are friends. Super sweet story about finding love when least expected. Nash is a busy man and wasn’t looking for love but from the moment he met Mari he knew there was something there. Mari is skeptical about Nash because he seems too good to be true and after being burned by Brett, she is not ready for a relationship but the chemistry is there but will they a I really enjoyed this book!!

A favorite author of mine has done it once again. We went from Willowbrook to this new book in New Orleans. Mari is Max’s sister from one of the previous books in Willowbrook and Nash is a businessman from New Orleans. He and Max have done work together previously. When Mari finds out that her “boyfriend” ducks out on her and then runs all of her credit among other things through the roof what is she to do? When she meets Nash, there is an instant chemistry between these two but things aren’t going well for Mari at the moment. When Nash offers to help and things go from bad to worse, will Nash and Max be able to help her and keep her safe? Out of respect for the author, that’s all your going to get form me. If you enjoy a good book with enjoyable characters and a great storyline, look no further. This book is for you. #badboyupdate
It all started with a weekend in New Orleans that went horribly wrong and ended with finding their HEA.
I was pulled right away into the story with the hope that there was a good mystery with the ghosting of Mari by her boyfriend that disappeared.
While I normally gobble up J.H. Croix’s books, I wasn't as absorbed with this book as I had hoped due to too much repetition. The storyline with Brett seemed more like a side story instead of part of the main story. I understand that it's how Nash and Mari come together and the story with Brett had a lot of promise but never really went into the depth needed.
Even with that said, I enjoyed Nash and Mari’s story and I'm sure you will too.
My favorite line from the book that really hit home for me was “The way people treat each other is a reflection of them, not you.”.
This was a quick and satisfying read by one of my comfort-authors.
Mari wakes up one morning on a weekend trip to New Orleans to find her boyfriend has ghosted her, but not before ensnaring her in his deep financial troubles. Basically penniless, she turns to Nash Reynolds, a friend of her brother's living in New Orleans, for help tracking down and figuring out what the hell her deceitful ex has done to her.
Sparks fly, of course, and Mari and Nash are now faced with navigating what they are to each other as Mari finds herself being threatened by the people her ex-boyfriend owes money to.
I enjoyed the interesting premise of this book, the cameos from Harlowe and Max (and Janet!!!) and the sizzling romps between Mari and Nash.
Thank you to the author for an advanced copy of this book!
Oh, don’t you worry! Have you ever put your trust in someone only to be proven wrong? Mari thinks that she’s less than smart for allowing Brett into her life. When her big brother Max told her that Brett was bad news she dug in and refused to back off as lots of kid sisters do. Going from meh to dangerous while being in a new place has put Mari in a not so positive position and Brett is making everything worse. Welcome to the circus Nash. While Nash is a true Southern Gentleman, he’s also a friend of Max so he jumps in to assist the fair damsel Mari. While this is out of the ordinary for Nash he never stops looking at, touching and protecting Mari. Getting the danger away from Mari while permanently removing Brett proves insane. Will this be a rebound or has Fate decided that they’ve both had enough duds and are now ready for happiness?
From disaster comes love This story captivated me from the start, poor Mari had been treated appallingly by her partner whilst away on holidays. On trying to find him she meets the rather attractive Nash who just happens to be friends with her brother. Finding out how evil and manipulative Mari’s partner had been to her he steps in to help. But when danger comes her way, Nash comes to the rescue. Will Nash be able to protect Mari and then persuade her to stay in New Orleans for good? He couldn’t bare losing her when he’d just found her. Whilst spending so much time with Nash, are her feelings for him real or a rebound? Through all her turmoil will she be able to work it out and finally find a man worthy of her love? Loved this quick, steamy at times read plus I also enjoyed all of the characters that appeared in the story.
Poor Mari is totally blindsided when her boyfriend, Brett, leaves her stranded in a bed and breakfast in New Orleans. He hasn’t paid the bill and she realizes he has sabotaged her financially in other ways too. She meets Nash when she goes to his office looking for Brett. Nash is pretty much a workaholic and has no time for romance or relationships, but there’s just something about Mari that has him wanting to help her. He knows her older brother Max through business and between the two of them they are going to figure out what is going on. Mari is understandably wary after the fiasco with Brett, but there’s just something about Nash that pushes through all her defenses. Nash was such a good guy and so patient. It was really good seeing these two find their ways around the obstacles on their way to HEA. I received an ARC from the author and this is my honest opinion,
J. H. Croix does not disappoint! Nash and Mari don’t have a what you’d call a normal start. Mari is in New Orleans after her boyfriend bails on her in the middle of the night leaving her broke and owing for their stay at the bed & breakfast they were staying at. She meets Nash after figuring out that her now ex-boyfriend was supposed to meet with him that morning. Turns out that Nash knows and has worked with her older brother. Nash decides and offers to help her with her situation along with her brother. While she is in New Orleans, Nash shows her the city and shares his favorite places with her. The chemistry between them I becomes too hard for them to fight and they finally let it take over. A fan may be required while on the road towards their HEA. I absolutely enjoyed their story and could not put it down. Definitely a must read.
What a cute story! Poor Mari is unlucky in love. Her sleazy boyfriend has taken her on a “romantic” trip to New Orleans but it sure doesn’t go as expected. While looking for him one morning she meets Nash. Smooth, sexy and charming Nash sweeps her off her feet just a little. Mari is confused and embarrassed by her situation but Nash feels like the luckiest guy in the world. These two have amazing chemistry and I loved their back and forth. Mari is an independent woman but Nash is so smooth he catches her off guard. He definitely wants more with Mari but she’s less sure. There’s an interesting twist of danger that spices it up a little too. You’ll really like this sweet romance. I received an ARC of this book and am happily leaving my review.
