The Baby on My Doorstep

Rate this book
I thought my sister was killed a year ago. But now her baby is on my doorstep…

I’m drinking a glass of wine in my quiet, empty house, listening to the silence and wondering if I will always be this lonely… And then I hear the knock.

When I open the door, I can’t believe what I see. A small bundle, pink fists waving weakly under a patterned blanket, gorgeous deep blue eyes blinking up at me.

A baby.

I rush to pick her up, clutching her tightly. Who can she belong to? Why would someone abandon her at my door?

I call the police, and social care. But I could never have predicted what happened next. Because when they run DNA, the baby is related to me.

She’s my sister’s child.

But that’s impossible. My sister was murdered a year ago.

Wasn’t she?

A completely gripping and unputdownable thriller from the bestselling author of Not My Mother that will keep you gripped from the first page to the final shocking twist. Perfect for fans of Lisa Jewell, Lucy Foley and Gillian Flynn.

Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC (Advance Reader Copy) of The Baby on My Doorstep by Miranda Smith. This is an author that has crept into my TBR (To be Read) list repeatedly but the first book I have actually read. I loved it so I will have to pursue her other books. I was kept guessing as to what would happen next. There were plenty of twists and the book had me engaged the whole time. This was a quick and easy read and very entertaining! I would definitely recommend this book to others. I gave it a 4 star rating.

This is one that I definitelyyyyyy thought I had figured out! I mean I was confident & of course I was wrong. There was a lot of suspense building as we went on this journey with Emily to discover who left this baby on her doorstep.

The overall premise of this story was intriguing! But to find out that this baby that was dropped off is also related to you, magnified the intensity! I enjoyed the dual POVs that showed Erin & Emily’s points of view as their perspectives were on total opposite ends of the spectrum! This fast paced domestic thriller definitely delivered the thrills & suspense, I thoroughly enjoyed it and would recommend. This was my second read by Miranda Smith, but won’t be my last! Thank you Bookouture and NetGalley for an advanced reader copy. All opinions are my own.

This "utterly unputdownable psychological thriller full of suspense" was surprisingly easy to put down.

It also lacked the suspense promised by the publisher's blurb.

The book's "mysterious infant left abandoned" premise was intriguing, but the storyline's execution fell apart within the first three chapters.

The protagonist's internal monologues took up more space than the actual mystery of the abandoned infant.

Pacing was slow, and repetitive text was plentiful.

The book's "shocking twist" was predictable, and the final chapters were eye-rolling.

I listened to the audiobook, expertly narrated by Madeline Pell.

Although Madeline Pell's performance was oustanding, the book unfolded from two POVs and would have benefited from two narrators.

What a fun psychological thriller! It was twisted until the very end. Many thanks to Bookotoure for my gifted copy and allowing me to take part in their book tour! This was my first Miranda Smith book and now I must read all of the rest of her work! I finished this in about a day and a half because I just couldn't put it down. I guessed the twist incorrectly which I must say is rare for me so I was pleasntly surprised!

Imagine you are going through a divorce and your days are filled with searching for your missing sister who has disappeared a year ago when a mysterious knock at the door occurs and when you open the door you see that *someone* has left a baby on your doorstep. A five month old to be exact. Things begin to get ever more weird when DNA results show that our main character is related to this baby and that the mother of the child is her missing sister.

I recommend going into this one blindly like I did - it made it a lot more enjoyable and kept me on my toes throughout. It kept me interested until the final reveal.

Emily's sister disappeared a year ago and Emily is convinced she's long dead. Imagine her surprise when a baby matching her DNA shows up on her doorstep.

I was intrigued by the premise and like Emily, I wanted to know what really happened to her sister. I related to her inability to let her sister's disappearance go. If this happened to me, no way would I just forget and play happy family with my husband. I did get frustrated several times with Emily as she never wanted to call the police and avoided thinking about practical things like childcare.

This wasn't mind blowing, but it was an entertaining, mysterious read. Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for the ARC.

The Baby on My Doorstep
By: Miranda Smith
Pub Date: October 7, 2025
Publisher: Bookouture

I look forward to every Miranda Smith book because I love her writing style and I know I will have time spent well.

Imagine your home alone and you get a knock on your door? Do you answer? Our protagonist opens the door to the best gift. A little baby wrapped in a blanket. Who could possibly drop off a baby?

The police are called and she soon realizes she is related by DNA to this baby? She finds out it is her sisters, but how can that be?? She believes her sister was killed a year ago?

This story keeps you guessing the motives and wonder what really happened to her sister.
The twists kept coming to a satisfying ending. Smith can’t write them fast enough for me. 😊

The Baby on My Doorstep is so riveting that I finished it in one day! This book grabs you and it's so fast paced that you can't stop reading it! Emily is home alone looking forward to a glass of wine and binging a tv show when there's a knock at her door. When she goes to the door she can't believe her ears. She hears a baby crying, she opens the door, and someone has left a baby in a carrier on her doorstep! What is going on? Whose baby is this and why did they leave it here? Emily calls the police to report it and waits for someone to arrive. Emily was really looking forward to relaxing because her divorce papers arrived today. She wasn't ready to deal with that yet. Bryon and Emily were happy until a year ago. Emily's sister, Erin, disappeared a year ago and Emily became obsessed with finding her. It put a huge strain on the marriage as she wouldn't think of anything else.

The police and paramedics arrive and the baby seems fine and is estimated to be 4-5 months old. They require a DNA test to help identify the family of the baby. Emily has to give a sample as the baby was left at her door. When the results come back it turns out that Emily is related to the baby!! Her sister is the mother and she might still be alive! She was alive 5 months ago so Emily is hoping that she still is. Emily decides to keep the baby even though she's never cared for a baby before. Bryon pitches in to help as he is a natural and always wanted to be a father. Emily needs all the help she can get so accepts his help even though the divorce papers are on the counter.

I was sure I had this book figured out and couldn't wait to see what happened, but I was so wrong! This book has twists that will blow your mind and you will read it way too fast to find out what happens! Is Erin still alive? Will Emily be able to find her if she is? Will Emily's theory on her sister be right? Will the police be more invested in Erin's disappearance now? The Baby on My Doorstep is a thriller that keeps you guessing and I rate it 5 stars with my highest recommendation. Get this book, start reading, and I dare you to put it down! I'd like to thank NetGalley and Bookouture for an advanced copy of The Baby on My Doorstep in exchange for a fair review. #TheBabyOnMyDoorstep

I gave 4 stars, but would have given 4.5 / 5 if half stars were an option.
The thing I liked most about this book was the length and pacing. It's a shorter read and it keeps moving with no slow burns and no side stories or winding sidesteps. There really isn't a lot of subplot either. It's just boom, boom, as each piece of the puzzle slots in. I also really appreciated the shorter length. Not everything has to be 800 pages and it's really nice to be able to flip pages and get to the end, especially since once I was really into it I didn't want to stop. The elements that I was less a fan of were the multi-POV where once POV is the missing sister. I wished the POV had been different. I also wished the characters were more likeable. However, those are preferences. There's nothing craft-wise wrong with the writing. I think the mystery aspect was particularly well-done. I did guess the killer, but I guessed so close to the reveal that I wasn't upset at being able to figure it out. Thanks to the publisher for the ARC.

The Baby On My Doorstep is a very compelling read.
I regularly appreciate a psychological thriller by this favoured author.
Emily is grieving the loss of her sister, Erin.
There’s many unanswered questions to her disappearance and Emily assumes she is dead as it’s be over a year.
One night, home alone there’s a knock at the door.
On the door step is a five month old baby.
The police arrive and a test is conducted.
The baby is related to Emily.
Could she be Erin’s baby and does this mean she is alive……
What comes next will be shocking.
Miranda’s writing style and storytelling is always welcome on my reading radar.
Her books intrigue, engage and entertain.
A great premise, interesting plot, unexpected ending and a good twist.
All this make for a terrific reading experience.

Wow. This was so good! I had no idea what to expect. This book kept me reading and on edge- I had no clue what to expect! The best part of the story was finding out what happened to the sister. There were so many twists and turns! I also thought this book was fabulous because the reveal had me shocked. I had no idea what to expect and was blown away by how it all came together. Genuinely one of the most surprising books I’ve read in so long!

ARC Review for "The Baby On My Doorstep" by Miranda Smith 👀
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ / 5
Release Date: October 7, 2025

First of all, this review wouldn't be possible without NetGalley, Bookouture, and of course, Miranda Smith 🌹 Thank you so much for sending me this Advance Reader Copy and for giving me the opportunity to read and review this wonderful book 🫶🏼

—⋅˚₊‧ 𐙚 ‧₊˚ ⋅—

“the baby on my doorstep” by miranda smith was my first thriller from this author, and i loved it! it was such an absolute page-turner that kept me hooked from the start 🫣

early on, i already had a suspect list in my head. i thought i had it all figured out, but i was wrong 🤣 the book kept throwing plot twist after plot twist at me, one i managed to guess, but another completely caught me off guard 😭 i admit i felt a little disappointed at first, thinking it was too easy to figure out who the culprit was… but then the next twist came and i did NOT see that coming 😳

for me, i wouldn't say this story is predictable. this would be such a great read if you’re new to the thriller genre and still testing the waters. although if you’ve read a lot of thrillers in the past, you might find it easier to piece things together. nonetheless, it still delivers that fun and twisty feeling 🫨

i was satisfied with the ending and all the emotions this book gave me. the storyline was well-written, and i’m definitely planning to check out more of miranda smith’s thrillers in the future! 🙌🏼

The Baby On My Doorstep by Miranda Smith, Emily has had one doozy of the year her sister went missing and as she became obsessed with finding Aaron her marriage fell apart and now she’s received divorce papers. This is why she is sitting at her table getting drunk when a knock comes on her door only for her to open it and find a five month old baby girl crying. this is when the contender for the weirdest year ever in Emily‘s life is introduced she has no idea who this baby is so she calls the police and before she knows it her soon to be ex Byron and best friend Vickie show up worried something happened to Emily. Oh no, Emily is fine all she has to do is take a DNA test and the police and child welfare will take care of the rest. The police lady explains the DNA test is so that women can’t just give birth and pretend to have found a baby and so Emily agrees only for a few days later the child welfare worker is back with news you are not only related to this Baby but we believe it’s your dead sister Aaron’s baby so maybe Aaron isn’t so dead after all. Now Emily goes from obsessing over her dead sister to obsessing over where the hell is she because clearly to give birth you have to be healthy and to be healthy you have to be alive and once again Emily is often running in pursuit of Aaron. Initially she thought Aaron‘s ex-boyfriend a guy named Adam did it and that is who she told the police did it even to the point where she stalked him.. soon however slowly but surely the truth comes out and it causes Emily to become paranoid and untrustful except for her best friend Vicky, she even accused her husband of having something to do with it but when everything is revealed her life will never be the same again. let me just say once again this is a writer whose books I love and despite the fact the writing should’ve been on the wall the revelation threw me. I don’t know if I am slow on the uptake but OMG I really could’ve figured this out this is a twisty well put together story and it’s just so good I definitely recommend it to those who love great twisty stories I think you will definitely enjoy this one. #NetGalley, #Bookoucher, #TheBlindReviewer, #MyHonestReview, #MirandaSmith, #TheBabyOnMyDoorstep,

Miranda Smith delivered an engaging page-turner. The Baby on My Doorstep hooked me from the first chapter with its chilling premise and kept me invested until the very last twist.

The story kicked off with a woman grieving the loss of her sister—until one night she heard a knock and found a baby left outside her door. The shock only deepened when she learned the baby was her sister’s child. As she took in the infant, she was forced to confront painful secrets about her sister’s life and what really happened to her, leading to a tense, twisted search for the truth.

Unlike her previous book, Smile for the Cameras, which didn’t really grab me, The Baby on My Doorstep hooked me right away with its chilling premise and steady suspense. I loved how Smith mixed the emotional weight of family secrets with twisty, fast-paced drama. While a few of the reveals felt a bit far-fetched and some side characters could’ve been more developed, the tension and emotional pull more than made up for it, making this a truly gripping read.

Overall, I really connected with her writing style in this one. It’s quick and easy to fall into—the short chapters, steady twists, and just the right touch of family drama kept things emotional and tense. Smith definitely reeled me in with the cliffhangers and had me flying through the pages.

All said, I’d recommend The Baby on My Doorstep to anyone who loves a fast-paced psychological thriller packed with family secrets and plenty of twists to keep you guessing.

Thanks Net Galley and Bookouture for this advance copy in return for my honest feedback.

The baby on my doorstep by Miranda Smith.

Emily’s sister Erin has been missing for almost a year, and Emily assumes that she is no longer alive when someone rings her doorbell on a given evening. On the sidewalk, there’s a cradle with a baby in it. It turns out to be a girl from around 5 months old. Out of routine, the police takes cheek swabs from Emily and the baby. The news hits hard the next day that the baby proves to be her niece! Could Erin still be alive?

The baby on my doorstep is a highly addictive thriller full of mystery, secrets and deceit combined with well build and believable characters. I could easily empathize with them and I even started to love one in particular, without spoiling the name of course.

The suspect list is small and it kept me guessing till around 75% in. But I still kept eagerly turning those pages to find out all of the details and I can tell wholeheartedly it was fascinating from start to finish.

If you love mysterious, unputdownable thrillers you should definitely pick this one up. Pub date is Oct 7 so mark that date in your calendar.

Thank you so much Netgalley and Bookouture for providing me a copy of the baby on my doorstep in advance. I’m glad I discovered this new (at least for me) author and I will def check out her other books.

Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC of The Baby on My Doorstep in exchange for my honest review.

What a ride … this one grabbed me from the first knock at the door and never let go. The premise is deliciously twisted: a woman convinced her sister was murdered finds a baby on her doorstep, and DNA says the child is hers. The author leans into atmosphere the quiet house, the aching loneliness, the small panic of new responsibility then flips it into full-throttle suspense. My heart was racing for the last few chapters!! I could feel the tension through the pages!

It is tense, propulsive, and layered with smart misdirection. The writing from Emily’s POV felt honest and raw, which made the stakes feel personal even to me as the reader!! The little sprinkles of the other POV made for a suspenseful buildup.

If you like domestic thrillers with moral messiness, and a twisty centerpiece, pick this up. It’s a good quick read and can easily pull you from a slump!

Release Day Review!!

This was my second read from Miranda Smith, and while Smile for the Cameras still holds a place in my heart for those killer slasher vibes, this one comes so close! I tore through it needing to know what was happening. I hate to be that person who says it was a little predictable—but not everything was! That final twist got me good. Fast-paced, emotional, and totally bingeable.

When a lonely evening is interrupted by a knock at the door, a woman finds a baby left on her doorstep—alone, cold, and crying. But when the DNA results come back, the shock is unimaginable: the baby is her sister’s child. The same sister who was murdered a year ago… or so she thought. What really happened that night, and who can she trust when the truth starts unraveling?

If you’re in the mood for a quick, twisty thriller filled with family secrets, heartbreak, and suspense, this one will keep you flipping the pages.

OMG!!!!! That ending!!!!! I would have never guessed. From the very beginning I was hooked. Who wouldn’t be intrigued if you find your missing sister baby on your doorstep. I know I would have so many questions that I wanted answers to. I raced through this one like there was no tomorrow. I had to find out what happened and fast. As each chapter went by I thought I knew what was coming at the end but I did not. My mind was blown once all the pieces to puzzle came together and was solved. It left me speechless and also sad that the book was ending. I really couldn’t get enough of it. Between the characters, plot and that awesome ending. I couldn’t ask for a better read. It had everything I look for in a great psychological thriller. I also want to say that this author does it again. I’ve read many books by her and she never disappoints. She just keeps getting better and better. I can’t wait for the next one. Thank you for such a brilliant read.

Title: The Baby on My Doorstep
Author: Miranda Smith
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Publication Date: October 7, 2025

This book started just the way a thriller should start... an exciting event that grabs the reader's attention!! When a baby shows up on your doorstep in the middle of the night, what do you do?

This book is told from two different points of view; Emily and Erin. I really wanted to like Emily, but her character was just soooo unlikable. Demanding, negative, accusatory, and wishy-washy are a few words to describe her. Byron, on the other hand, was a gem!!

This was a quick, easy read that obviously held my attention. I honestly didn't figure out what happened to Erin until the author revealed the truth.

Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to read this ARC in exchange for my honest opinion/review.

The story is emotional, gripping, and full of unexpected twists that kept me guessing the whole way through. I loved how the characters felt so real and layered I found myself rooting for them, hurting with them, and celebrating their victories.

This book had the perfect balance of heart, drama, and suspense, and it left me thinking about the story long after I finished. If you enjoy books that pull you in emotionally and keep you hooked until the very last page, this one is a must read.

This book had me hooked from the first chapter! Thank you to #NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC of The Baby on my Doorstep.
I really felt for the fmc, Emily, after losing her sister.
The book takes place when it has almost been a year since her sister, Erin, has been gone.
Once a baby is left on her doorstep, and DNA evidence connects her to the baby, she is now left wondering if after all this time, Erin is out there somewhere, and not dead like she thought.
This book kept me guessing all the way! All of the twists and turns were surprising to say the least! Such a good story!
I have now become a fan of this author, Miranda Smith, and will be looking for all of her books!

Addictive and full of twists!

Thanks to NetGalley and Miranda Smith for the ARC!

I was completely hooked from the very first page! The pacing is excellent — fast enough to keep you turning pages, yet perfectly balanced to build tension. Erin’s point of view added an intense layer of suspense, and Emily’s determination to find her sister felt so real and emotional.

The twists totally got me, and I loved every minute of it.

I can't wait to read more from Miranda Smith!

Highly recommend for readers who enjoy fast-paced, character-driven thrillers! 🙌

This was an addictive read! I couldn’t put it down and stayed up late just to find out how this saga ended! The level of suspense was next level and the red herrings were brilliantly placed throughout. The plot and subplots blended and blurred deepening the mystery surrounding the missing woman and her baby. Emily is a strong main character with a fierce sense of loyalty although some of her actions had me either rolling my eyes or gasping!

I really enjoyed this book!
It was a quick paced, short chapter thriller book. I constantly wanted to pick it up to read more and more.
Loved the twists! I had a moment of thinking I had it worked out then it did a full 360. Then I was clueless! It constantly has you doubting what you think which is why when the twist happened it was more of a shock!
Book wasn’t overloaded with characters which is again another favourite quality of mine!

If you’re a thriller reader - this one is definitely for you & I highly recommend.

The evidence is all there. The case should be solved. But nearly a year later, everything changes and nothing makes sense anymore.
At first I thought the reader would be simply unfolding the details of a bigger picture. I almost lost interest because of predictability (or so I thought). The second half picked up with shocking twist after twist, revealing a series of events and an ending I couldnt have guessed. This was a quick read for me because I couldnt wait to find out how it all fell into place.
This book is the perfect mystery to keep you guessing on the edge of your seat. My first from this author and I will definitely be reading the others! Thank you the publisher and NetGalley for the ARC!

Title: The Baby on my Doorstep
Author: Miranda Smith
Publisher: Bookouture
Genre: Mystery/ Thriller
Pub Date: October 7, 2025
My Rating: .4.7 ounded up

Story starts with Emily at home alone drinking a glass of wine thinking about her how very lonely her life has become.
She and her husband Bryon are getting divorced – Although the reason is another woman – it isn’t what you think as it is Emily’s younger sister Erin. Erin went missing a year ago and presumed to be dead. Emily has been overwhelmed with grief as well as feeling guilty about losing her sister. They went out to dinner that night and were having a great time when Erin’s alcohol ex Adam shows up – not a surprise as Erin told him to meet her after dinner. Emily is upset that Erin is meeting him and tells her so and then goes home. Emily regrets leaving her with Adam as she believes he is guilty of her disappearance,

Bryon does understand Emily’s grief but she is so obsessed and just not getting past it- she isn’t getting better. Plus he would like to start a family, however Emily is not ready.

As the evening goes on she suddenly hears a knock at her door- since it is dark and she lives at the end of the street so doesn’t want to open the door. She looks through the little window near the door and cannot see anyone nor can she see a car in the driveway. The know stops and hears footsteps walk away. Next she hears a sound like crying- is it an animal she finally gets brave enough and opens the door.
What a shock to find a baby on her doorstep.
She notified authorities and the police as well as paramedics show up. The baby appears to be four or five months old and is healthy. They require a DNA test to identify the baby.
The results come later and indicated Emily is biologically related and it appears it is Erin’s baby.
Emily is willing to take on the responsibility of the baby.
Bryon is willing to help and is so natural and comfortable with the baby.

Emily is still determine to find out what happen to Erin.
Things then get very interesting!!

Whodunit sure had me fooled.

This is my fifth Miranda Smith. I loved the recent thrillers I read however the earlier ones were only okay.
Stories were bad so I knew I needed to give Ms. Smith another chance.

Miranda Smith delivers a tense, emotional, and brilliantly twisted psychological thriller in The Baby on My Doorstep. From the very first chapter, this story grips you with its shocking premise and refuses to let go. What begins as a mysterious and unsettling situation quickly unravels into a complex web of secrets, lies, and betrayals that only get darker the deeper you read.

Smith’s storytelling is sharp and compelling—each chapter ends with just enough suspense to make it impossible to stop turning the pages. The pacing is perfectly balanced, with tension building steadily as the mystery surrounding the baby deepens. Every time you think you’ve figured out what’s happening, Smith hits you with another unexpected twist that makes you question everything you thought you knew. It’s the kind of book that keeps your heart racing and your mind guessing until the very end.

The writing itself is crisp, vivid, and emotionally charged. Smith does an exceptional job of pulling readers right into her characters’ lives, making you feel their confusion, fear, and desperation as the truth begins to surface. The sense of paranoia and unease grows with every chapter, creating an atmosphere that’s both chilling and addictive. It’s one of those thrillers where you tell yourself you’ll read just one more page—and suddenly it’s two in the morning and you still can’t put it down.

What makes The Baby on My Doorstep stand out among domestic thrillers is how human it feels. Beneath all the tension and chaos, there’s a real emotional core—one that explores trust, motherhood, and the lengths people will go to protect those they love. Smith balances the psychological suspense with just enough vulnerability and heart to keep the story grounded, making the twists hit even harder when they come.

By the time the final pages arrive, you’re left both shocked and impressed by how seamlessly everything comes together. Miranda Smith’s ability to blend emotional storytelling with relentless suspense makes this a must-read for fans of twisty domestic thrillers.

The Baby on My Doorstep is gripping, fast-paced, and chillingly unpredictable—a standout addition to the genre. Miranda Smith has proven once again that she knows exactly how to keep readers awake long into the night, and I’ll definitely be picking up more of her books after this one.
