The "rivals-to-lovers" trope is a staple in romantic suspense, but rarely is it executed with as much tension and chemistry as in Fearless Pursuit. Ms. Wheatley has pitted traditional law enforcement against the world of private security, all in the backdrop of a chilling murder spree in a town that has barely recovered from the last one.

Chief Dani Miller is a no-nonsense small-town cop who values procedure, community trust, and the weight of the badge. The town of Maxwell has been through it, and they’re looking to her to lead the police department with a firm hand. She does, until she’s faced with countless murders that make no sense. It doesn’t help that she’s constantly butting heads with the owner of Reed Protective Services, a private security firm founded by her father’s rival and passed down through the generations. While Dani was taught that all Reeds were rivals, Von Reed would prefer just the opposite were true. That’s a secret he needs to keep close to the vest until their forced proximity is over. Unfortunately, or fortunately, depending on how you look at it, Reed Protective Services is being targeted with these murders as well, so working together is their only option.
The heart of this book isn't just the mystery but the combustible chemistry always simmering between Dani and Von. When that chemistry ignites, they have to decide if they can work together to save the town of Maxwell from another serial killer and put any budding relationship on the back burner.

Fearless Pursuit is a masterclass in balancing genre elements. It offers the adrenaline of a police procedural with the emotional depth of a contemporary romance. If you enjoy strong female leads who don't compromise their authority for a relationship, and a hero who knows when to lead and when to follow, you’ll love reading Fearless Pursuit.

I loved Dani and Vons story. The feud between the two and the Maxwell police dept. and Vons Security firm adds to the suspense. There is a serial killer loose and it a race to find the killer before there is another victim. I gave it a 5 star because it held my attention and the suspense keeps you on edge. I was surprised at the end who the killer was.
