The author of A Vampire's Guide to Gardening and Obsidian Queen brings you a lighthearted fantasy full of humor and romance, set in a cozy contemporary fae town. Welcome to Moss Hollow.

There are three things you need to know about my great aunt—she’s eccentric, she’s rich, and she’s dead. No, make that four things. She also named me as the sole beneficiary of her fortune. There are, however, a few stipulations.

1. I must move into her cottage in Moss Hollow, Vermont—a magical community that values tradition and tourists.

2. I must keep her beloved tea shop open and running for at least three years.

3. I must take care of her tiny owl, a prickly creature by the name of Rowan. He’s moody, opinionated, and he used to be a mage.

He doesn’t like me, he doesn’t like my dog, and he really doesn’t like the handsome fae councilman who starts hanging around as soon as I arrive in town.

But for a small fortune, Rowan and I are going to learn to coexist long enough for me to figure out how to turn him back into his normal self with my “cute and worthless” pixie magic—preferably before he ruins my dating life or drives me insane.

Owls, Tea Shops, and Other Magical Nuisances is a rom-com style contemporary fantasy. The perfect lighthearted escape, this story is sure to delight readers who enjoy cozy magic and humor.

The books in this series feature smoldering-but-sweet, closed-door romance. (Passionate kisses and some innuendo, but no spicy scenes.)

I absolutely adore Shari Tapscott's cozy paranormal romances. They're books I struggle to put down. It's like the vibe of a contemporary romance, except with supernatural elements, which is something I'm obsessed with right now.

The little town this takes place in is so quaint and charming with so many fun characters I'm looking forward to seeing more of! And, of course, I'm greatly looking forward to where the romance is going.

Honest review... Loved it!
I was so intrigued with the story when Mrs tapscott announced this series
(I was a little put off with the love triangle -book one and I already know who I prefer but I'll wait and see)
Kit (Kathleen) is so cute of a character I was super happy with the pixie idea it was so fresh and new cause as much as I like Fae and Elves there are a LOT of books with the same theme (don't hate me but they just blend and after a while well I stop reading)
Kit is a summer pixie (the book will go into the differences between the pixie seasons)
And I must say I loved the idea of the weather being affected with her emotions.
Oh and sparkling... Hilarious, embarrassing and that end on book one (slapping hand down on table ... Then contemplating it's not too soon to do a re-read!!)

Story is: The lovely Kit inherits her aunt's tea shop but it comes with stipulations - Enter Rowan the mage- turned owl (a serious cutie with a grumpy personality) she will need to run the tea shop for 3 years then she's allowed sell up and move on if she wishes. We also a have Ash -the somewhat prickly Fae that is straight away rather interested in kit...
There are an array of characters and I honestly can't wait for more (please give me more!)now patiently waiting for the second book... patiently

Oh, how I absolutely adored this book. It was so dreamy and cosy. Set in a lush, beautiful world full of friendships, chemistry, and magic.

Kit is a cute summer pixie new in town to run her aunts tea shop . Ash is a winter fae and local councilman. Together, they have some sizzling chemistry. I love how Kit shimmers when she's attracted to someone (although quite inconvenient at times 😅). And the way her emotions can affect the weather.

Rowan is a very cute owl that was left to Kit along with the tea shop. I loved their banter and the way their bond grew over time.

I'm also a big tea lover, so all the tea descriptions felt like the perfect touch.

The whole book felt like a warm cosy hug perfect for autumn.

I really need the next book, like tomorrow. How am I going to wait until January!

I was a little nervous when I signed up for this ARC because I haven’t loved the cozy fantasy I’ve read in the past but my faith in Tapscott convinced me to try it. And y’all. I LOVED it!! I was fully submerged into this world and would absolutely love to visit Miss Hollow one day lol. The town was enchanting, the characters were wonderful, and the storyline kept me entertained the entire time. This was the first book in weeks I’ve finished because I was excited to read it and not because I just wanted to finish something. I truly can’t wait to see what book 2 holds and I was so disappointed I didn’t have it already in my hands- but I know the wait will be worth it! Honestly nothing but fantastic things to say about this book. You should go read it now!!

I did that thing and started reading an unfinished series. 🤣 But it was a Shari Tapscott book so… how could I refuse? *cue Preminger*

My stars, this was adorable! Moss Hollow is charming. Like if Stars Hollow was a town of magical beings with a no-car in town limits policy. Such a fun cast of characters & plenty of laugh out loud moments!

The hardest thing for me was not being able to get a handle on which guy was going to be the love interest, haha. I’m sensing a love triangle ahead, but let the record state I have my preference. 😉

Just the bit of fun and lightness I needed to pull me out of reading slump! But I’m so not ready to have to wait till January for the next book… 😭🤣

Content: mild innuendo; kissing only

This was a cute read, the romance seemed a little milder than this author usually does, but it is also book 1 and we all know who the real love interest is. 😉 I’m giving this four stars because I felt like not very much happened in this book, with that being said, I’ll definitely be reading book 2 when it comes out.

A cozy fantasy rom-com with hot tea? Count me in!

Of Owls and Oolong was such a fun and cozy read! Although it’s lighthearted easy reading, there’s plenty going on to keep you hooked.

While I have a lot of theories about things that might happen in the next two books, I am excited to see what surprises Shari has in store. I can’t wait for the rest of this series!

good start to a new series

Rating: 3.5⭐️

Of Owls and Oolong, the first in the Owls, Tea Shops, and Other Magical Nuisances series by Shari L. Tapscott, is an enjoyable fantasy tale. Tapscott’s story encapsulates everything from cozy mysteries, fantastical creatures and mythical places, to slow burn romances with elements of magic and darkness.

I be honest, I don’t understand book descriptions that I feel misrepresent the story. Nothing about this story reads “rom-com”. Sad, poignant, hopeful, and new beginnings. But rom-com? I don’t see it.

Kit is a summer Pixie who inherited her great aunt’s old cottage and tea shop in a magical tourist town across the country from her home and family in Washington state.

Moss Hollow, Vermont caters to the human tourist industry while hiding the fact that it’s a paranormal community that exists along side them. No cars inside the township, just carriages and buggies pulled by animals. Part of the charm during the many festivals.

The author builds a believable small town dynamic with all the various kinds of shops and shopkeepers of differing species, each with their own backstories.

It’s Kit, Rowan the Owl who’s not an owl she inherits along with the house and shop, along with Ash, her reserved neighbor and Council member, that’s the most of the main focus here.

I appreciate the world building, and the way Tapscott wove some of the darker elements of Kit’s background into the story. But that also works against it as well, because it’s so tragic and threatening that to have that aspect of the story be a part of the bigger plot at this point feels like it doesn’t have any foundation laid out for it.

The relationships between Kit and Ash, or Kit and Rowen aren’t really there yet. It’s a beginning but not established. So the ending feels rushed.

I’m looking forward to seeing more of the characters and series to see how the author develops them.

No spice, mystery, and fantasy.
Entertaining and very enjoyable.

Love that cover!

Good

When Summer Pixie Kathleen (Kit) inherits her aunt’s tea shop business, she’s not quite sure what to do with it, because she knows nothing about tea. The inheritance comes with a three year trial period stipulation, and her aunt’s owl Rowan… who just so happens to be a mage in disguise.

With a handsome fae councilman helping her out, Kit is determined to make a success of the tea shop, and find a way to help out her owl.

This cosy fantasy drops us into a little bit of drama from the get-go, as Kit struggles to help Rowan. She’s a sweet, and kindhearted woman, and has some interesting summer pixie traits that make her character an enjoyable one to read about.

There is the veriest hint of a love triangle, which is my least favourite trope in any kind of romance sense, but it’s just a small hint. For the most part this is a small town fantasy, tea-shop included, and features a cast of very interesting people, with some very interesting magic.

I admit, I love the cosy genre and the feel good vibes they usually have; but this is slightly edgier than many cosy stories, as there are some high stakes situations which may have a lot of value for certain characters (not to mention the potential love triangle).

That isn’t to say it is not a cosy read, it is; the small town feel, quirky characters, and cosy tea-shop setting all contribute to that. It’s also an enjoyable fantasy, with a fascinating magical system that I look forward to learning more about.

This is a fun, cosy-ish fantasy, for lovers of magical small towns, talking owls, and tea-shop shenanigans.

Shari L. Tapscott uses the 'FMC inherits a shop and animal and must run the business before receiving any money' trope in her cosy contemporary fantasy, so that's not new but what she's written here is absolutely delicious! I fell into the story quickly and did not want to leave Moss Hollow.

The characters were all quirky in their own ways, fun to spend time with and their interactions ranged from hilarious to 'hide the knives'! I was captivated by Kit, our pixie FMC. Her magic was wonderful while occassionally being embarrassingly awkward and her nascent connections to her new friends were heartwarming. They're all colourful magical types, with unique backstories and challenges, adding energy and interest in spades to each page.

The slow burn romance with Ash (neighbour, town councillor and handsome high fae) had me on tenterhooks with will they/won't they tension. Their relationship progressed in a lovely way from spontaneous yet perplexed attraction through the full sprectrum of tentative to fierce caring, with dashes of humour. The ending of the book though......wow. Where is the author going with that??? And how long do I have to wait to find out??

The path to turn Rowan back into his human form was full of emotion. Ms Tapscott pulled out all the stops and practically bled loneliness, heartbreak, grief and worry onto the pages. It was mesmerising. If the next book deals with the consequences of his 'return' to his family and community then I'm sure I'll need tissues.

This really was a delightful story. If you need a respite from high stakes actions and consequences, I wholeheartedly recommend this book.

* * * Awarding this the Cutest and Coziest Book Award 2025 * * *

I am normally a little hesitant of cozy fantasies but this book was absolutely everything I could have wanted and more! A quaint little eccentric town, magical beings, a bit of a conundrum that needs solving, and lots of tea. The townsfolk are all interesting and I look forward to meeting more of them in future books, they all have little quirks that will be fun to see how it plays out! I like how the author had each magic divided into a season and some of the fae and pixies have specific magic based on that season. For pixies, their magic is passive and part of them but when their emotions take over, their magic affects others around them.

The main character is a summer pixie named Kit and I love her magic. She inherits a tea shop from her great aunt but there are stipulations which she must fulfil in order to gain the full inheritance. The journey of learning the teas to reopen the shop is almost as cute as the rest of the story.

I love that when a pixie is attracted to someone and gets the butterflies they shimmer! It is even better than a blush. However, the relationship with Ash is sweet but I am not completely sold on it. It is sweet but I don't feel the chemistry there, I see it elsewhere and I am super excited to see that get explored!

I could not put down this book. It is an excellent start to a new series and the author writes in a way that pulls you all the way in! If you need a good, quick read I highly recommend!

Super soft

It's... high school drama for the majority of the read.
This took me forever to finish.

It's fine if you don't look deep.

The magic system doesn't really do anything for me. Pixie magic is tied to emotions. And Kit is always crying. So it rains a lot.

The romance was sad. Ash is always condescending. I didn't like him. And Kit ignored his horrible traits. He knew about his cousin and she was angry for all of two seconds. And then he told her he didn't try very hard and she was okay with that because at least he made half an attempt. Then he says he looked into it for years. Yeah... wishy washy writing.

This could have actually been really cute. She could have gotten to know Rowan really well and slowly fallen in love. But it's trying too hard to have Pick Me vibes. Everyone, and I mean everyone, just loves Kit. And she can - and does - spend half the book correcting everyone on her name.
Also, her magic is addictive. So the romance just falls so flat with me.

If you love tea and want to know all about it, this book is for you. Otherwise, there's nothing else really going on in here.

It was just missing an experience.

Of Owls and Oolong is just one of those stories that makes me content and cozy. Let me start by saying that I want so badly to live in Moss Hollow. It’s such a magical little town and I can’t wait to see more of it. The story itself is a mix of humor, sweet moments, and romance. The banter in this book is one of my absolute favorite aspects. It had me giggling more often than not. And who doesn’t love tea?

Kit is such a fun main character. She’s sweet, sunshiny, and seems to get along with virtually everyone. Her pixie magic is interesting. It’s not a power that you normally see when reading fantasy and it results in some really cute scenes. Rowan is a very cantankerous owl with secrets. The banter between him and Kit was THE BEST! There are some really cute side characters that I would love to learn more about.

There is a love triangle in Of Owls and Oolong. Normally, I would see that and very possibly turn the other way. There are a couple of authors I trust to do the triangles well and Tapscott is one of them. After Owls & Oolong I’m still clueless as to what will happen but I have my hopes set on one specific man. Here’s to hoping (on my knees begging)!

I can tell that this trilogy is going to be an all-time favorite. Honestly, the only thing that makes me sad is not knowing what happens next. I’m excited to learn more about the characters, the magic system, and Moss Hollow!

From the very first page, you enter an atmosphere of comfort and fun amongst magical creatures.
Kit, a summer pixie, has her world changed when she inherits her aunt's tea shop in a quaint town where the shop owners are magical, the tourists human and they have no idea there's magic. It's described like a small town that we would all want to visit. Then there's Rowan the "owl"- you need to meet him like I did. Another favorite of mine is Kit's dog, Chester, a pomsky- please put him on your next book cover, Shari! There's fun, lots of tea facts, a budding romance, lots of unique characters and a magical problem to solve. The final chapter sets up the next book, which just might confirm my prediction! This is a great read for all ages, the fun, cozy, throwback to simpler times and cute sitcoms that we all need and can enjoy!

This was the perfect cozy fantasy read! I loved the little town of Moss Hollow so much. Shari never disappoints with the worlds she creates, and this one might be my favorite yet. The setting and all of the characters were so charming, I couldn't get enough.

Kit is a super fun character. Her pixie magic and big heart made her a heroin who was easy to root for. I also loved her banter with Rowan. His current form as an owl didn't take away from the massive chemistry between the two of them. There were a lot of fun side stories as well. Think: a supernatural town hall meeting between the fae, shifters, pixies, and sorcerers. It was delightful!

You know how it feels in the spring when the weather is just perfect and everything is starting to bloom so you’ve got the windows up and you are dancing around the house to playlist you titled “happy music”?

Thats how this book feels.

There’s just so many things to enjoy about it. I don’t want to spoil anything about it so you can discover all the fun things on your own. So much sweetness and some surprisingly intense moments as well. And it’s completely clean so you don’t have to think twice about handing it to one of your teenage daughters to read which is always a huge plus.

I will say though that I’m so excited for the next one because I feel like it was just getting really good when it ended. It didn’t really end on a cliff hanger but at a moment where you know things are going to be really interesting in the next one.

There was a lot of talking and not much at all happening until everything suddenly happens around 80% (i think). The FMC makes loads of assumptions about people, becomes defensive when others try to correct them, and persists in thinking of people based on their looks even when provided with proof that they are different. She also constantly thinks that because a being is male, they must be attracted to her sexually/romantically (beyond just interest in her magic, and it's not just the one "knee-jerk reaction caused by shock" that she mentions on one scene but many times). The story tried to be cute and warm but only managed to be shallow in every way. FMC is also obsessed with everyone else's love interests but doesn't try to get to know more than that about people. Everyone assumes everyone else is heterosexual.

I don't think I'll continue with the series.

Full disclosure: I don't drink tea. Did I learn things about tea that I will probably never use in my life and forget until the next book comes around? Yes. Did I enjoy this book anyway? Also yes.
The premise of the Moss Hollow world is fun, and Kit being a pixie just adds to that. Affecting the weather when you're sad and sparkling if you like a guy? Yeah, creates some fun moments.
This is the beginning of a series but is also a contained story of its own, with the exception of the romance. There isn't quite a love triangle, but there is the set up for one.
This is a clean read and the editing is good. I received an ARC from the author. I was not required to write a review but chose to do so and the opinions stated are my own.

Omg. Just another excellent cozy read from Shari L Tapscott. I had been in a bit of a rut, not truly enjoying much of what I was reading so this was incredibly refreshing!

Kit is a pixie who just inherited her aunt’s tea shop in an exclusively fae town with human tourists. Upon arriving she meets and falls for her high fae neighbor, Ash. And then unexpectedly discovers the owl she inherited along with the house and tea shop is more than he appears.

I love the summer pixie magic and how the weather responds to Kit’s moods. The tea shop and all of the Main Street business owners make for such a cozy story. I’m excited to get to know them more in the next books. I also greatly enjoy a good love triangle and I am super excited to see where book 2 takes Kit!

I liked this book FAR more than I thought I would! At first, Kit seemed like she'd be a more timid, unsure character, but she ended up being rather bold, which I appreciated — particularly when she interacted with Ash.

Speaking of Ash,

The only thing I dislike about this book is that I picked it up without looking to see if the sequel was already out (spoiler: it's not). I hope the wait isn't too long, and I look forward to reading what happens next!

"The quaint town feels magical and oh-so-impossibly perfect because it is."

Another fun new story from Shari Tapscott! I liked the cozy feel to this little enchanted town and the people, or I should say fae, who live there! Kit gets to move to Moss Hollow when she inherits her aunts tea shop. She didn't know that it came with an enchanted owl though. Rowan the mage who got himself stuck as an owl that is. Then there is Ash, the councilman with high expectations for their little town. And to top it off. Kits magic has a mind of its own, showong off whatever emotions she is feeling.

This book was an enjoyable clean read and I'm excited to see what happens in the next one!

Oh my gosh, Tapscott wrote a perfect cozy novel! I never expected her to break into cozy fantasy but I'm so glad she did. You also get to learn a little about tea through this story while you're at it! Of course there is the famed love triangle that Tapscott is known for but I don't even hate the characters for it, even if I have some mixed feelings about said characters and on the matter.
I absolutely adored the community created in this book and thought it was fun that it was a throw-back tourist destination even if I'm not sure I'd actually want to live in said town, but that's what books are for, to live vicariously!
Definitely loved and recommend this story to any and all who enjoy cozy fantasy!

Perfect Cozy Clean Romantasy

Clean: Kissing Only
Ends on Cliffhanger

This book was amazing. I couldn’t put it down and stayed up way too late to finish it. However it ends on a cliffhanger!! ARGH! So if you’re like me and can’t stand not knowing the ending, you might wanna wait till the next book comes out. However, definitely mark your calendar and read this series because you won’t wanna miss it.

The pacing was perfect. Great cozy town with plenty of fun side characters. Sweet romantic moments with plenty of chemistry while keeping it clean. Loved this book and highly recommend it.

When is the next one?

Well. Talk about a cliffhanger. This is one that ends in a good spot but also has me gasping and tugging at my hair because HOW am I going to wait to find out where this goes???? I loved the supporting characters, I loved the small town feel (um, can I go there please? Can I have magical abilities and live there?). But the excitement and tension there at the end, that one is going to drive me nuts until this series is finished. Another five star from Shari.

Delightful!

Kit has several men interested in her. As a summer pixie, when she is happy, she makes everyone around her happy. She sparkles for Ash, but Ryder wants her to sparkle for him. She inherited a tea shop which comes with stipulations as well as an owl. Only Rowan is not a normal owl. The banter is hilarious as are Kits mood swings. Cozy, clean and such a pleasure to read. Looking forward to the next book, especially with the way this ended! Not a cliffhanger, but definitely something to look forward to.
