Great guide for beginners
I came to this book as someone who has always been curious about Mah Jongg but honestly felt too intimidated to pull up a chair. The tiles looked confusing, the card felt like a secret code, and everyone else always seemed three steps ahead. This guide changed that for me in a single weekend.
What I love most is how friendly and reassuring the tone is. The author clearly remembers what it feels like to be the new person at the table and writes with so much empathy. Instead of drowning you in jargon, the book starts by debunking the biggest myths that make beginners want to quit and replaces that anxiety with a sense of “you really can do this.”
The full-color visual tile guide is worth the price on its own. Being able to quickly recognize each tile without constantly apologizing or slowing down the game took away so much of my stress. The step-by-step walkthrough of setup, dealing, and especially the Charleston finally made those parts click for me. And the explanations of how to read the National Mah Jongg League card are clear, patient, and practical, with real play-by-play examples that show you how the strategy works in an actual hand.

This Mah Jongg guide is fantastic! As a beginner, I finally understood the rules, the 2025 card, and how to actually enjoy the game without feeling lost. It’s colorful, clear, and even fun to read. The tips are super helpful, and the included sample card is a great bonus.
