RUBY -

I’m the club princess. I’m Daddy’s little girl. I’m not scared of anything. Or I wasn’t. I used to be those things. Now I’m just here. Waiting. Not sure for what or who, but I don’t even care enough to go find whatever it is I’m supposed to be looking for. My dad was my whole life, till he wasn’t. And now that he’s awake, it’s worse than when he was dead. Who am I if I don’t even know myself?

KOOPER -

I see her. I didn’t want to at first. She was a job. A means to get something I wanted. But things change, as they often do. I expected aspects of this. I understood there were risks involved when I took the job and signed up for this. But the reward outweighs it all. Till the goal line wasn’t what I wanted anymore. Till I realized that not only did the rules change, but I did too.

I told her dad I would protect her. And I have. She’s still breathing, even if she’s just a shell of herself. I should be okay with that. I was okay with it. But that was before. Before she got under my skin and showed me what waking up with her in my arms could be like. What fighting with her can do to my heart compared to the silence of her never talking to me. She might not like it. I don’t think I like it. But one thing is clear: Ruby is my girl, and I’ll make her see that even if she comes at me kicking and screaming.

Ruby gets her HEA but I think the author really hates her and just wrote this book since she'd accidentally built up the Kooper and Ruby storyline through other books to be totally honest.

This poor girl loses her mother, is treated like absolute shit by the club (I'm not actually convinced they like her even though they claim she's like a sister), KOOPER also treats her like shit for a long time, and her father acts like she's a burden

Honestly, if I was her I would have let Kooper quit the club and left the area. It's not like she had anything to stay for. It's quite obvious that the club doesn't really care if she stays or goes with the way she is treated throughout.

Kooper and Ruby

Kooper and Ruby have been dancing around each other for years but now Kooper needs to protect Ruby. Ruby is a club princess who really doesn’t fit with the club. There is plenty of family drama and suspense that kept me turning pages just to see what would happen next.

REVIEW:
Kooper is the ninth book in S.J. Rowe's Hound of the Reaper MC series. Ruby Hofstadter has been the club princess and daddy's little girl that wasn't scared of anything or she thought she wasn't. Her dad was her whole life until he wasn't and when he finally wakes from his coma it's worse than when he was dead. Dixon "Kooper" Hobbs initially thought of Ruby as a job but as the time went on she became more though he didn't want to admit it. Ruby has become his girl and he'll make her see that even if she comes at him kicking and screaming. When Ruby visits her dad in the hospital after he wakes up from his coma was an emotional moment that had me in tears while I was reading how Ruby finds out that Law had amnesia and couldn't remember his own daughter and wife. Ruby going to visit her dad again in the hospital but finds the nurse she saw flirting with Law was an emotional moment that had me in tears again while she ranted at her about how her dad had loved her mom so much that he never looked at another woman no matter what but now that he doesn't remember her or her mother she was done caring about him.

When Jack blames the Hounds of the Reaper MC for letting Rue die just to protect their own even after they got him medical attention was a heartbreaking moment that had me in tears especially when King finds out she was pregnant with his baby and didn't know it until after her death which he could have done something about if he had taken time to get her medical attention instead of leaving her all alone to bleed out even when the threat had already gone. S.J. Rowe delivered an emotional and action filled enemies to lovers age gap slow burn motorcycle club romance that had me on a roller coaster of emotions from start to end. Ruby had gone through so much in her life that I didn't know how she was able to go on with her life as she dealt with so much pain and disappointment from the MC that she thought of as her family. Kooper finally claiming Ruby as his old lady and her accepting him as her old man especially when they find out that they were going to be parents was the best HEA for them both as they really deserve it. I was a bit shocked when he left the MC for Ruby but I knew that she wouldn't allow him to do that. I'm anxious to find out what will happen next in Law's book coming out in May 2026 especially after that ending with Natalie and Psy from the enemy MC.

2 & 2/3 stars.

Kooper and Ruby’s long awaited romance was a dud for me. Dedicating a third of the story to events that had already happened with constant bickering, a cruel hero, and an infantile heroine having a temper tantrum was both frustrating and so very disappointing. Throughout the entire series Ruby is filled with feisty confidence, a give no sh$ts attitude, and a steadfast dedication to the club she claims as family. Suddenly she’s portrayed as an insecure little girl who can’t get out of her own way and her betrayal at the hands of those she perceives as family is a bridge too far. Kooper is no hero when he purposely denigrates Ruby time and again rather than accept his duty to act as her protector. For a man totally dedicated to his club who desires the presidency someday he proves that he’s no successor to Law who would kill him for the way his daughter has been treated. By the end of the book I was totally turned off by this couple and the games they played despite the premise that their hormones could overlook their reprehensible behavior. The story does begin to redeem itself with Ruby’s capture and the horrendous psychological terror she and Natalie face and which this author is known for but Kooper’s misogynistic brain washing of someone he supposedly has feelings for ensures he can never redeem his cruel behavior in my eyes.

I've been looking forward to this book for a long time. I wanted to see how Ruby would be as an old lady. Would she mellow out ? or stir it up more? I have to say that I was a bit disappointed with the book. The book had many side stories that were mentioned but never really explored. I imagine that those are books coming in the future but by doing that it made me feel like this was a preview book instead of an actual story telling of Kooper and Ruby. I was beginning to get tired of Ruby's self pity party especially since it never explored her anger issue. I still gave it a 4 star because the writing is still good and the plot was good. I am excited to read Law's and definitely King's book

Ruby’s Turn

I could not wait for this book! I have always loved Ruby’s sass and wanted to see her get her happily ever after. This book had so many twists and turns. I actually gasped after one major plot twist. How much more can she take and survive? Little did I know there was still so much more drama to come. This book was another great read and left multiple cliffhangers. Now we need to convince the author to give us some novellas to give us updates on the other characters until Law comes out next spring. Highly recommend!

Took awhile but it got there

This book was way too long. It partially covers scenes from other books which makes reading frustrating. Makes it seem like the book is out of sync. The inclusion of past scenes makes story seem a bit discombobulated, the story doesn't flow from one scene to another.
I give it 4 stars because once the story focuses on just Ruby and Kooper it gets way better. You just have to wade through the unnecessary parts.

And I really dont like Ruby but she and Koop do manage a HEA.

Interesting development with Nat, King, Rue and someone named Ava.

An other great story by S.J Rowe! I love the flash back scenes and how great the build up was for Ruby and Kooper. Their chemistry is fire! Highly recommend reading this and can't wait for the next book

Wild Ride

SJ hit it out of the park with this one. Kooper and Ruby was an amazing and wild ride. You get the back story of what happened at the warehouse and Ruby in school. You see how far Kooper will go to protect Ruby. Their love is great. It has angst, action and a surprise.

Emotional roller coaster.

Be prepared to revisit the whole series through Ruby and Killer's relationship. True enemies to lovers and many twists and turns. I had a hard time putting it down.

I was a bit surprised when I opened this one and saw that it was almost 500 pages long. Then as I read it, realized that the first third or so took place in the same time period of previous book, just with Ruby and Kooper's point of views. I will say that it got old fast the animosity between the two of them, both seemed to have chips on their shoulders for different reasons and managed to push each others buttons without even trying.

I did feel sorry for Ruby. I felt like a lot of her anger and issues were all due to the club and how she was treated. When she went off on Casper for so much of what happened, I was cheering her on, it was a long time coming. It sucked what happened after for many reasons, including what happened with the Crazy 8's.

I find now that I'm done reading the book, I'm left with more questions than answers. Like I want more with Natalie and her background, more with the Crazy 8's and what is going on there and of course more with Ava. You know that bit with Ava is going to bring nothing but trouble.

Finally Ruby's story! She's been in the background of most (if not all) of the other books and we've seen her back and forth arguing/flirting with Kooper for years. I needed to see inside of her head, especially since she grew up in the club instead of being an outside like the other women.

The first half or so is a recap of how their relationship began years before when Kooper first started protecting her. I know that it gives the full picture, but I was waiting to catch up to the present so I kind of sped through it. Once things were current, I was so frustrated on Ruby's behalf and almost wanted her to leave the club. If they're going to treat her like an outside after everything, forget them.

There's a lot of action and the end was interesting. I'm curious about the next book and need more of Natalie please!

I voluntarily read and reviewed this book. All opinions are my own. Thank you to the author and Hidden Gems for the copy.

If you have followed the series, you will not want to miss Ruby's story. Although this book starts as a recap of other books, it can be read as a standalone as it is seen from Kooper and Ruby's POV. Theirs is a slow burn romance that starts out with Kooper being a distant bodyguard to Ruby. As time passes, he sees beneath the surface of what she presents to everyone as club princess. There is plenty of animosity between the two, as Ruby doesn't fit in with the club or as a regular citizen. Throughout the book, there is family drama, betrayal, lies and definitely suspense that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Because it does cover a few years, the author did a fantastic job of making the story flow seamlessly and keeps your interest.

The early part to this story is a big recap of how Ruby and Kooper’s relationship started, which felt a bit slow, I would’ve preferred more focus on the actual story but once it caught up to the present it was more interesting.

The action was solid and the ending has made me curious for the next book.

This was a decent book with interesting characters. I was frustrated with Kooper at times-- for example, on one hand, he doesn't want Ruby to get a job because it would increase his workload; on the other, he criticizes her for being financially dependent on her father. He doesn't see that he's part of the problem.

I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
