From the queen of clean romantic suspense—one terrified witness, one unsuspecting Broadway playwright, and a killer who won’t stop until the final curtain falls.
When Tessa Seidel delivers costumes to a Manhattan television studio late at night, she expects an empty set—not a murder scene. After stumbling upon a woman’s body and nearly being attacked by a man fleeing the scene, Tessa escapes with no idea who to trust—and a fear that the killer knows who she is.
Desperate, she runs to a friend’s beach house in the Hamptons, where Broadway playwright Parker Sawyer is retreating to finish his next script. But he knows danger when he sees it and offers to shelter Tessa, even when they find out she is being accused of committing the murder.
Back in Manhattan, CIA operatives Kimber Seidel and Brandon Hale realize Tessa is being framed. But with a powerful suspect manipulating the investigation, clearing Tessa’s name won’t be easy.
If they can’t unravel the truth in time, Tessa won’t just be the prime suspect—she’ll be the next victim.

You know that moment when you walk into a room & instantly wish you hadn’t? Now imagine that room is a crime scene… and suddenly YOU are the prime suspect. Yeah. Buckle up.
Staged Evidence delivers the kind of high-stakes, heart-pounding suspense that makes “just one more chapter” a full-blown lie you tell yourself at midnight… and again at 1:00 AM… and again at 2:00. 🫠
Think: wrong place, wrong time… a murder you didn’t commit… & nowhere safe to run. The tension? Immediate. The stakes? Sky high.
WHAT I LOVED:
✨ Nonstop, edge-of-your-seat pacing 🎭 Unique theater + publishing world backdrop 🕵️♀️ “Wrong place, wrong time” done RIGHT 💥 Twists that actually surprised me 🏃♀️ On-the-run tension that never lets up 💞 Sweet, clean, slow-burn romance (zero spice 🙌) 🧠 Smart, capable characters working the puzzle 🔁 Familiar faces woven in seamlessly
TOP MOMENTS TO LOOK FOR (without spoilers):
👀 That opening scene… instant adrenaline 🏖️ The “safe house” that doesn’t feel so safe 📞 Clever, unexpected communication moments 🧩 The pieces starting to click… then shifting again 😳 The reveal you THINK you’ve figured out (you haven’t) 💔 The moment everything feels lost 🔥 The final unraveling—chef’s kiss tension
FINAL THOUGHTS:
This is romantic suspense at its finest—clean, clever, & completely addictive. Traci Abramson has this magic trick where she gives you just enough clues to feel brilliant… right before she flips the entire board. 😏
The balance of danger & heart? Spot on. The romance? Sweet without stealing the spotlight. The suspense? Relentless in the best way. If you love stories where ordinary people get pulled into extraordinary danger, this one will have you glued to the pages.
🟡 𝙑𝙞𝙤𝙡𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚: Moderate. Includes murder, attempted attacks, being pursued, use of guns, & physical confrontations. Some references to blood, but not graphic.
⚠️ 𝙏𝙧𝙞𝙜𝙜𝙚𝙧𝙨/𝙎𝙚𝙣𝙨𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝙏𝙝𝙚𝙢𝙚𝙨: Being framed for murder & falsely accused, ongoing fear for personal safety while being hunted, manipulation or corruption within authority figures, high-stress life-threatening situations, & underlying themes of trust, betrayal, & survival.
🎬 𝙏𝙑/𝙁𝙞𝙡𝙢 𝙀𝙦𝙪𝙞𝙫𝙖𝙡𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙮: PG-13 (intense suspense & action, but no language or sexual content)
STAR RATING
📖 𝗕𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗥𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴: 𝟰/𝟱 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘀. Fast-paced, engaging, & full of twists that kept me turning pages late into the night. I loved the clean romance & high-stakes suspense. There were a few moments that felt a bit streamlined, & the ending came together a little quicker than I expected.
I really enjoyed this gripping romantic suspense by the incredible Traci Hunter Abramson.
From the first page, I was enthralled and had to find out what happened.
Kimber and Brandon from the first book in the series, Novel Threat, play big roles in this book. Tessa, Kimber’s sister, is the story’s main focus and is put in a crazy situation after discovering a murder victim.
We get a fun forced proximity romance going on with Tessa, but I would say read it for the plot and the suspense more than the romance.
The multiple POVs keep the story moving and have you guessing who did it along with the characters. The second half flew by for me and I couldn’t put it down until the end.
~When a late-night delivery turns into a murder scene, Tessa finds herself on the run-framed for a crime she didn’t commit and hunted by a killer who knows exactly who she is.
-My friends, if you are a fan of murder mysteries, closed-door romance, and high-stakes suspense, I have just the right book for you to pick up next and add to your TBRs. STAGED EVIDENCE delivers! It is filled precisely and cleverly filled with all the things! From a smooth well-paced suspense, multiple POVs, forced proximity, humor, endearing characters, clever twists and turns, a protective hero, leveled up tension, and just the perfect amount of swoonyness layered amid all the danger! This thrilling story had my attention first thing, with its opening scene and slowly built to the need to know more and figure out the mystery before too long, which led to pages flying and me sitting on the edge of my seat, with a few out loud gasped ah-ha moments coming from my mouth. Funny thing, my husband leaned over when he walked into the room with 50 pages remaining, and said m, “Yep, I knew it, another Traci book.” In true fashion, Traci has the ability with every book I’ve read of hers to put me in the same thrilling position. I love how she never fails to take me on a such thrilling roller coaster of feels, high stakes, and the need to figure it all out in my head, and within minutes deliver me to a screeching yet satisfying ending, and the great need of more thrilling books. This thrilling read, is indeed worth the read!🙌🏻📚‼️
•Content: mild violence-murder, attempted attacks, being pursued, use of guns and knife, physical confrontations, blood, framed for murder & falsely accused, ongoing fear for personal safety, betrayal, corruption, high suspense action, no language, kisses only.
-I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.
Novel Threat (Book 1 in the Pen & Dagger series) is about Kimber and Brandon and now Book 2 is all about Kimber’s sister, Tessa. I love having a romantic suspense series set in the performing arts.
Tessa is a prime suspect in a death and the race is on to find out who really did it. I love the way the first half of this book sets things up and delivers a wild ride in the second half. While there is mild romance, it’s the suspense and mystery solving that takes the front and center stage, and I really enjoyed it all.
There are clever ways for clues to appear and a strong, yet hollow, cast of characters that allowed me to cast my suspicions on many of them. It was so much fun to piece this one together a bit at a time.
This romance suspense set in Manhattan is another book well done.
Content: mild moments of peril/danger; mild romance
*I received a complimentary copy. All thoughts and opinions expressed are my own and were voluntarily given.*
This is a really good no spice romantic suspense. The second book in this series, we continue with the romance of Kimber and Brandon from book 1 (who are dating) and then we also get a new forced proximity romance between Tessa and Patrick. Tessa walks in on a murder and when she sees her attacker cozying up with the cops, she runs.
I enjoyed the way this book blended contemporary romance with suspense. It was fun to have the FBI aspect and a cop’s perspective. I enjoyed trying to figure out the web (I did for some of it!) and watching our characters grow closer together.
I’m enjoying this series and books by this author. I’m excited to read more. The romance is just kisses, intimacy level 1. 4.5 stars rounded up to 5.
TW: Murder, Blood
I received an ARC of this book from the publisher and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
Yes!!!! Another Pen & Dagger book!!! I was soooo excited when the author announced this one! And devoured it when I read it! I know I can always count on Traci Hunter Abramson to deliver a heart-pounding, page-turning, deliciously suspenseful book!!! I will always pick up her books and know that I'm going to be one very happy reader as I'm pulled into whatever world she has created and whatever suspense plot is happening. I love feeling like I'm right there with the characters trying to unravel all of the mystery of what is happening and figuring out the whodunnit and hoping these characters can get out of any scrapes they find themselves in while hunting out truth and justice!
I love that we still got to see a lot of Kimber and Brandon from the first book! And that Kimber's sister Tessa was the main heroine in this book! The behind the scenes look at the television studio and the writing of a screenplay by our intrepid hero, Parker, flowed so smoothly! And these characters were very clever in keeping Tessa protected as she was the suspect in a murder case! Loved it!!! Way to go to the author for her creativity!
I kept guessing and got pretty close but didn't fully figure it out until really close to the big reveal of it all. I love when authors can keep me guessing! It keeps the read even more fun and engaging!
Grab a copy, schedule your reading time and be swept away by the mystery and suspense! And get ready for several secondary characters who might have some grudges! *Not a hint because there are several and several who aren't connected to the murder.*
Content: Clean. Some talk of the death of characters, some suspense but nothing overly graphic. No language and only some kisses and nothing further.
I received a copy from the publisher, Shadow Mountain Publishing, via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions in the review are my own.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
This is book two in the Pen & Dagger series, and I loved the way we got to spend so much time with the characters from book one. From the first chapter I thought I knew where this book was heading, but I am happy to report that I was very wrong. It’s no fun if a story is that predictable. This kept me entertained, but I didn’t feel as interested in the plot as I did in Novel Threat. It was a little drawn out and the insta-love aspect was a bit of a turn off for me. I felt like we didn’t get to know the main characters very well to have been rooting for any type of relationship. I wish I had been buddy reading this with someone because there were a lot of plot points that I would have loved to have discussions over. I can’t really mention those specifics here as they’d be spoilers, however. I highly recommend a buddy read though!
Tessa Seidel works in the television industry and has a late-night request to deliver costumes to a studio that she expected to be empty. What she stumbles on while making her delivery is a murder victim. She flees the scene of the dead woman and doesn’t know who she can now trust. Some are trying to pin the murder on Tessa, so she runs away and hides out at a beach house in the Hamptons with playwright Parker Sawyer. This entire situation felt awkward to me – them having just met, living together at the beach house and then just a couple of days later falling for each other without much substance or depth to the root of their budding relationship.
Tessa’s sister works with the CIA and in my opinion, she should have known better than to flee the scene and try to hide out. To me that made her look even more guilty when we know as a reader that she’s innocent.
The book was ok overall, and I did enjoy spending more time with Tessa’s sister who was a main character in the first novel.

I could not read Staged Evidence fast enough! I was so excited to see Tessa get her own story in Book 2, and let me tell you—it did not disappoint. Traci has this incredible way of keeping you on the edge of your seat, second-guessing every clue until the big reveal.
What I loved most: ✨The fast-paced suspense and multiple POVs. ✨Opening scene 🤯 ✨Parker and Tessa! His immediate need to protect her was everything. ✨How Tessa handled the pressure of being a suspect. ✨Forced proximity 🫠 ✨The nail-biting ending!
If you’re a fan of murder mysteries, closed-door romance, and high-stakes suspense, this is a must-read!
I was lucky enough to receive a complimentary copy of this book, but I loved the story so much that I actually bought both the physical and audio versions for my personal collection! As always, all thoughts and opinions are entirely my own.
Content: Murder (non descriptive), suspense, no language, kisses only Staged Evidence is Book 2 in the series, and I recommend reading the books in order to not have any of book 1 spoilers revealed. Available Formats: ebook, paperback, hardcover, and audio
This one started off with a bang and never let up! It was fast-paced, clever, mysterious, and kept me on the edge of my seat. I thoroughly enjoyed the multi POVs and how well the author described all the law enforcement details.
Parker and Tessa were adorable and the forced proximity really worked for their relationship. I loved watching their relationship build throughout the book. I loved Parker's protectiveness and trust in Tessa. And Tessa had a sweet heart. They were the sweetest and had this super cute instant connection. I also really enjoyed seeing Kimber and Brandon's relationship grow from the first book.
This one was an absolute page turner. The multi POVs kept the book fast-paced and mysterious. And all the POVs slowly built the story and suspense. The author really knows her stuff! I really enjoyed reading about all the interesting ways they communicated, hid, and investigated. It was super fascinating. And the twist and surprises, whew, those really kept my on my toes! I loved the fast paced nature of the story!
This book was so intriguing, I did not want to put it down!
Another brilliant, edge-of-your-seat romantic thriller from Traci Hunter Abramson! Staged Evidence, the second novel in the Pen and Dagger series, starts with a bang & doesn’t let go. Falsely accused of murder & fearing for her life, Tessa Seidel goes on the run, enlisting the help of a handsome playwright & her CIA operative sister. This nail-biting sequel had me turning pages late into the night!
Tessa is delivering costumes to a Manhattan television studio late one night when she stumbles onto a dead body, & the killer is still there. She escapes, but leaves behind her phone. When she heads to the police station, she spots the killer again & flees to a Hamptons beach house to find her undercover CIA operative sister…only to find Broadway playwright Parker Sawyer instead.
Desperate for inspiration, Parker is drawn in by Tessa’s mind-blowing story & by her. His protective instincts kick in as a frisson of attraction builds between them, & together they race to stay one step ahead of both the authorities & the killer.
I loved this fast-paced story! The first book blew me away, & this one picks up right where it left off. It was great to see Kimber & her partner Brandon again, both CIA agents undercover in the publishing world with ties to Tessa’s employer. Tessa & Parker’s instant attraction sizzles, & I loved watching them fall for each other while on the run.
The mystery is intense, with twists that make it hard to know who to trust. The evidence against Tessa feels insurmountable, & the cops aren’t buying her story. It’s a true cat-and-mouse game, with Parker, her sister, & Brandon walking a tightrope between helping an accused murderer & uncovering the truth. I especially loved the New York entertainment angle & how Parker cleverly feeds clues to his uncle & Kimber through his play.
Loved this exciting addition to the series & can’t wait for more! Definitely recommend for romantic suspense fans. It works as a standalone, but is even more enjoyable if you’ve read book one. I received an advanced copy with no expectation of a positive review. All opinions are completely my own & voluntarily provided.
Kimber and Brandon are back, though they are not the main focus of this one. Now we switch to Kimber’s fashionista sister Tessa. She accidentally comes across a murder victim while delivering clothing to Ian Sawyer’s television set late at night and ends up as a prime suspect in the murder. Panicked, she runs to Ian’s house in the Hamptons, which Kimber had just left hours before. She finds Ian’s nephew Parker there instead.
Kimber and Brandon make the difficult decision to protect Tessa by disclaiming any knowledge of her whereabouts. Parker, struggling with writers block, decides to help Tessa by hiding her in a friend’s cabin in the woods. Without being able to call, he instead writes Tessa’s story as his new play, sending it to Ian as their means of communication about what’s happening. Ian and Kimber share what they have learned by “cowriting” scenes in the play.
Parker and Tessa are attracted to each other immediately. At first, they question the attraction as being born of the situation, but they move past that pretty quickly. Maybe a little too quickly, but it’s not outrageous.
The unraveling of the crime falls mainly to Kimber and Brandon, though Tessa and Parker do play a part. I liked the communicating-via-play script device. The reveal of who the murderer was and the reason behind it was believable. I did find that Abramson relies way too much in this book on people getting goosebumps. A minor quibble, to be sure. We do get to see side characters from the first book, which is something Abramson always does well at and which I appreciate.
Possible Objectionable Material: Blood and death. Threatening situations. Kissing. Kimber and Brandon don’t exactly lie to the police, but they aren’t forthcoming either.
Who Might Like This Book: Those who like suspense, especially series, and who like some romance with their suspense. Thank you to Shadow Mountain and NetGalley for the advanced reader copy in exchange for my honest opinion.
Tessa Seidel stumbles onto a murder at a TV studio and narrowly escapes, only to be framed for the crime. Hiding at a Hampton's beach house with playwright Parker Sawyer, she becomes the target of a dangerous conspiracy. But as CIA operatives race to uncover the truth, Tessa must survive long enough to prove her innocence...
What you'll love: on the run/hiding out multiple pov framed for a crime forced proximity hidden truths protective MMC character cameos super sweet romance!!!
AHHH!! Traci has done it again! This romantic suspense delivered on ALL FRONTS, and I could not put it down. It’s a fantastic blend of humor and wit, compelling characters, an unsolvable mystery, heart-pounding suspense, and a super sweet romance. Add in the fact that we still get POV from my two favorite characters from the first book, and is it any wonder I’m calling this one a must-read?!
There were so many clever twists and turns, and the way Traci wove Parker’s playwright career into the plot was pure genius. I absolutely loved the romance between Parker and Tessa. It was super sweet and not insta-love, but more of an insta-connection that grew naturally from there. Parker was so protective of Tessa, but I loved that she was just as protective of him right back!
The mystery kept me guessing until the very end (dang Traci and all those red herrings!), and I loved every minute of trying to figure out whodunit. And seriously, those suspense scenes had me turning pages long past my bedtime. But honestly…when have I ever been able to put a Traci book down??
If romantic suspense with twists, tension, and swoony moments is your thing, you don’t want to miss this one!!
I received a complimentary copy but a positive review was not required.
Staged Evidence Pen and Dagger #2 By Traci Hunter Abramson
Tessa Seidel has a late-night delivery to make when she happens upon a crime. She stumbles into a murder and is on the run from the killer. With no way to contact anyone, she lost her phone at the crime scene and travels to the Hamptons in hopes of meeting her sister, Kimber Frost. She doesn't find Kimber, who had already returned to Manhattan, but she does meet Parker Sawyer, who agrees to offer her a place to hide out.
But as the evidence piles up against Tessa, she and Parker decide to disappear, while Kimber, along with Brandon, works with her contacts to help clear Tessa's name. But the police seem focused on Tessa and Tessa alone. Kimber trusts her sister, and given the police's recent track record, especially the officer in charge of the investigation, she doesn't trust them to discover the truth. But would someone frame Tessa, or is it just convenient that everything is pointing to her?
As time to clear Tessa slips away, the danger continues to escalate. Who committed the murder, and why does everything point to Tessa? And how long can she put her life on hold and be able to reclaim it when the truth comes out?
Staged Evidence was a suspenseful read that kept me guessing who the murderer was. I suspected a couple of people, but I'll admit I was wrong. I love that this was a clean read in the romance department, and the suspense portion was well-written without delving into details that would offer up nightmares. I loved getting better acquainted with Kimber's sister, Tessa, and would happily revisit this series if a new book comes out. Highly recommend if you love clean-reading suspense and romance within the covers of one book.
I was provided a complimentary copy of this book. All thoughts expressed are my own.
No one does suspense/thrillers like Traci Abramson. I'm not typically a thriller reader, but her mystery and suspense books get me EVERY TIME. Added bonus is that they are always intense- but not gory, sweet- but not sappy, mysterious- but not ridiculous. And clean- they are always spice free.
There were characters that we kind of got to know in the first book of the series as well as new ones. I loved the tie-ins but you could really enjoy it without having read the other. We have CIA operatives, authors, editors, actors, personal assistants, play writes, and policeman. There truly is something for everyone to enjoy. The way she pulls them all together in an intense and action packed story is always amazing.
Mistakenly accused of murder from being in the wrong place at the wrong time, sends Tessa running. Mostly, because she fears for her safety- but she isn't very excited to spend time in prison either- especially for something she did not do. Luckily, she has friends and family that know her well enough to have her back and do some of their own investigating. In the meantime, police are not open to finding the actual killer- they just want the case wrapped up. If her name cannot be cleared quickly, she may become the next victim- not just a witness.
She is not on her own, however. She meets a nephew of a friend who is helping her- which could end out getting him in trouble as well as damaging his new success as a play writer as well. Should she turn herself in, stay hiding, or run away?
Nonstop action, impossible to predict twists, a slow burn attraction blooming in a forced proximity setting, tension for pages, and an unputdownable story will keep you up too late- and you'll be happy about it.
I received an early copy of the book to read and review.
"He was serious about Tessa. In fact, he couldn't imagine wanting to be with anyone else."
Staged Evidence by Traci Hunter Abramson
I don't know how she does it, but Staged Evidence is another romantic suspense masterpiece! Heart-pounding, unputdownable, edge-of-your-seat chaos, mystery, and suspense with sweet tender romance.
I loved the chemistry between Parker and Tessa. How he was so willing to help her no matter what. The soft moments between them at the cabin (yes, the forced proximity in this one was my favorite!). Working on his play. Keeping her safe. They are so brave throughout, but I felt like Tessa grew a lot in her bravery and fortitude.
Kimber and Brandon from Novel Threat make a reappearance and play a key part in this one. I loved seeing them again. Kimber's unwavering loyalty and love toward her sister is admirable and beautiful.
I thought Traci did a fantastic job at tying things together at the end. But she kept me guessing until the plot reveals at the end. I never saw that coming!
Another riveting story from the queen of clean contemporary romantic suspense. I think this one may be my favorite of hers so far! I definitely recommend this one to anyone needing a clean suspense book you can hand to your teenager or a friend or even yourself!

When Tessa makes a late-evening costume delivery at a film studio, she doesn't expect to find a dead body. Still less does she expect to have the police come looking for her as the murderer! Fortunately, the events of the evening shook her up badly enough that she heads for the country house where her sister Kimber has been holding a writing retreat - only to find that she left earlier that day, leaving only the owner's nephew at home. Parker is far from eager to get involved in a murder case, but he can't help wanting to protect Tessa, whatever the cost. Behind the scenes, Kimber and Brandon are hard at work trying to discover the murderer before the police find Tessa and decide they need look no further - but when evidence of foul play begins to appear, will they succeed before it's too late?
A great read with a good mix of romance and mystery/suspense. I enjoyed watching Tessa and Parker get to know each other in their difficult situation, and it was also nice to see some more of Kimber and Brandon, not to mention Ian and others. (Though while there are shared characters from book 1, this is a complete standalone story.) And the mystery side of things did a good job of complementing without overshadowing the romance - it throws them together and gives them reason to work for a common goal, but still gives them plenty of relaxed time to develop a meaningful relationship. I had mixed feelings about the main detective - he seemed alternately to want to pin the crime on whoever was easiest, guilty or not, and to want to find the truth - which don't feel compatible to me. However, it successfully kept me guessing while ultimately presenting a complete and coherent picture at the end. All in all, a great read and I look forward to more by the author.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
If you love romantic suspense with high stakes and smart twists, this latest one by Traci Hunter Abramson absolutely delivers. I’m already all-in on this Pen and Dagger series—two CIA operatives undercover in the book publishing world? Say less. I’m there. And this installment ups the stakes.
The suspense kicks off immediately. No slow build, no easing you in. Tessa hears a scream and walks into the scene of a murder. Instant tension. From that moment on, the story doesn’t let up. I genuinely felt that edge-of-your-seat energy as Tessa escaped, especially knowing the killer might know exactly who she is.
One of the cleverest elements was how Tessa and Parker communicated with Kimber and Ian through the play Parker was writing. That was such a smart, innovative way to pass information without tipping off the wrong people. It added this extra meta level to the story that fit perfectly with Parker and Ian's characters.
The twists were so well done. I kept trying to piece everything together and was completely wrong. I never figured out who was behind it all or why, and I loved that. I was correct about a certain aspect but not who the bad guy was.
I loved the multiple POVs. Getting inside different characters’ heads deepened the emotional investment. The forced proximity with Tessa and Parker is SO good. Parker stepping up to protect Tessa—even when she’s being accused of murder—made for a compelling dynamic. Protective hero, high stakes danger, isolated setting… yes, please.
Traci Hunter Abramson continues to prove why she’s my go-to for clean, intelligent romantic suspense. This book is fast-paced, twisty, and packed with tension from the first page to the final curtain. If you’re not reading this series yet, you’re missing out.
I received a complimentary copy from the author/publisher and NetGalley. All opinions in this review are my own.
Traci Hunter Abramson has done it again! I’ve been absolutely loving the direction she’s taken with her writing over the last few years, and Staged Evidence, the second installment in her A Pen & Dagger series, hits the mark.
The murder mystery is packed with twists, especially as we catch up with Kimber and Brandon from book one (Novel Threat). The stakes are personal this time: Kimber’s sister, Tessa, has been framed for murder. Forced to go on the run, she finds shelter in the Hamptons with Parker Sawyer, a Broadway playwright who happens to be the nephew of Kimber’s boss.
I absolutely loved the forced proximity of their situation. Being tucked away in a beach house created this cozy, high-stakes environment where their connection could really breathe. It wasn't just "insta-love"; it felt like a natural insta-connection that grew as they learned to trust one another. Parker is incredibly protective, but I loved that Tessa was just as fiercely protective of him. One of the most creative parts was seeing how Parker used his playwriting skills to help solve the case, weaving his career directly into the plot to communicate with those on the outside.
The plot moves at a breakneck pace, and I felt so much secondary anxiety as the detectives closed in. Traci expertly scatters clues and red herrings throughout, keeping the suspense at a fever pitch until the very last act. I ended up staying up way too late just to see how it all unraveled!
While you could read this as a standalone, I’d highly recommend starting with book one to get the full experience. Traci Abramson always leaves me wanting more, and now I’m just anxiously waiting for the next release. #stagedevidence #tracihunterabramson #penanddaggernovel #shadowmountain #sheilasbookreviewer
‘“I’m starting to think the killer might have really committed the perfect crime.”
“Trust me…there is no such thing as a perfect crime.”’
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
When a late-night delivery turns into a murder scene, Tessa finds herself on the run—framed for a crime she didn’t commit and hunted by a killer who knows exactly who she is.
Okay…while there may be no such thing as a perfect crime, I’m starting to think Traci Hunter Abramson may have just written the perfect thriller🤗
I cannot even tell you what an EXPERIENCE this book was.
I was constantly guessing—switching suspects every chapter, going back to previous theories, convincing myself I had it figured out…only to be completely wrong and start all over again. I genuinely challenge anyone to read this and figure it out before the end.
The pacing is fast, the stakes are high, and the multiple points of view make this absolutely unputdownable.
And can we talk about the romance for a second?? Because it is PERFECT. For my romance readers who are ready to dip their toes into a thriller—THIS is your book. Protective hero, high tension, and just the right amount of swoon woven into all the danger.
I also loved seeing familiar characters woven into this story—it added so much depth and made this feel like a full, immersive experience.
From start to finish, this book had me hooked. Intriguing, fast-paced, and completely addictive.
This one is available TODAY—go grab it!!
Happy Reading 📚
Content/Trigger: murder, blood, mild violence/suspense/peril, mention of infidelity (not main characters), romance—kisses only
This was such an amazing read! From the very beginning, Traci pulls us right into the scene, and from there, you are left trying to unravel who is to blame while also experiencing a forced proximity romance unfolding at the same time. This is definitely a page turner, with a great balance between suspense, mystery, and romance!
Tessa has been framed for a murder, and her future is uncertain. All she knows for sure is that she needs to lay low, hide, and give her sister Kimber and Brandon time to figure out who is really responsible. Laying low while everything points to her as the culprit is stressful, but having Parker around softens the blow. When he first meets Tessa, he is instantly attracted to her, but the more he learns about her, the more he wants to keep her safe while they wait for the truth to come out. However, the time they spend together makes them more and more invested in each other, which is risky, given that she is wanted for murder and jail seems like her only possible future right now.
Kimber and Brandon need to work discreetly and quickly before Tessa and Parker are discovered and their chance to prove her innocence runs out!
This was so good, and I did not guess who was behind it all. I found myself completely annoyed with the lead detective and his rush to pin everything on someone, but I loved getting a sneak peek into Kimber and Brandon’s life. And Tessa and Parker, those two and their romance were my favorite part of the story!
I received a complimentary copy. This review reflects my honest opinion.
Abramson returns for the second book in her Pen and Dagger series. This romantic suspense novel can be read on its own but when there are series I try to read in order. I enjoyed the first book, Novel Threat (April 2025), which introduced Kimber Seidel and Brandon Hale. Kimber and Brandon are both still connected to the CIA. Brandon is working undercover at the publishing house that will be publishing Kimber’s novels. In this story Kimber's sister Tessa is part of the focus. While delivering costumes late at night to a theater she stumbles onto a murder. Thinking she is fleeing the killer she goes to the Hampton's where she thinks her sister is staying. Instead she finds playwright Parker Sawyer. When Tessa seems to be the main focus of the police for the crime, Kimber suggests Parker and Tessa find a place to hide out while she and Brandon essentially keep an eye on the police as they investigate the crime.
I always enjoy the author and liked this book. I appreciate she writes books clean for language and graphicness. There is danger, shootings, physical fighting and of course murder. I enjoyed Brandon and Kimber working together through unexpected twists. The new romance with Tessa and Parker comes a bit fast but I choose to accept that as part of the formula of these types of books. I like this series, as I enjoy procedural type novels. And I recommend this book but encourage others to read in order for better enjoyment. Thank you to NetGalley and Shadow Mountain Publishing for the eARC and I am leaving an honest review.
Staged Evidence by Traci Hunter Abramson A Pen and Dagger Novel, book 2
Woah. I tell you what, woah! Traci sure knows how to write stories that captivate and capture my heart. Her wholesome character interactions overpower the wrongs done and the villains evil deeds. I can always count on a story that is unputdownable, suspenseful, heartfelt, realistic, genuine, and keeps you invested in the mystery.
Tessa Seidel. She was thrown into a horrible situation and does all the right things. everything is still stacked against her. Suspected of murder, There is no easy way forward. with the help of a new friend and many others, the puzzle pieces slowly start to fit.
Parker Sawyer has some worries weighing him down after becoming a Broadway Playwrite. Without hesitating he volunteers to help Tessa. Retreating to his friend’s cabin seemed like a good option until it may be the determining factor between life and death.
Get ready for a clean romantic suspense. Leaning more on the suspense and mystery it’ll keep you wondering at every twist. Surprise around every corner. And the need to be like Sherlock Holmes and solve the murders. The slow burn romance is perfect, honest, caring, emotional, and in no way sappy. I love how the connections formed are realistic and genuine.
You’ll find: Multiple POV Murders Slow Burn Romance Well paced suspense “The perfect crime” Forced Proximity Mystery High stakes And an unputdownable read.
STAGED EVIDENCE is fast-paced and clever, especially for anyone who loves a mysterious murder.
It must be my joy of theater that comes into play for this one. (Oh, my goodness—an unexpected pun.) All the comings and goings at the production studio, the hustle of New York, and quiet get-away spots.
The characters are so fun to follow. People loosely link together from one novel to the next, but it is not absolutely essential to read them in order if you don't mind spoilers. And seriously, you're going to want to read them all anyhow.
I COULD NOT figure out who was guilty of murder! Love it when that happens.
The tale twists as one sister is in hiding (kind of on the run), and the other is behind the scenes with a playwright, her boyfriend (who is FBI), and a famous person. But how to communicate with the sister who is squirreled away in a hide-y-hole? Sorry, I'm not going to reveal the method because it was so brilliant. I love me a clever book.
I expect this book to go up for awards and win in the near future. I could not read it fast enough.
A scream. Stranger on the ground. Blood. Enter Tessa. Man grabbing Tessa. Tessa runs for her life.
The Debrief: Falsely accused of murder, Tessa desperately finds shelter with Parker, a playwright, and hides until the bad guy is found. @traciabramson always writes a story that holds me absolutely captive until the very last page. Wonderful supporting characters and Traci’s trademark edge of seat vibes made this a big win for me. I couldn’t read fast enough! Although there was an immediate connection between Tessa and Parker, it felt natural and believable. I mean I’ve never had to run for my life before, but he was easy to like, so naturally a great choice. I’m a believer. 😉 What grabbed me:
🎬sweet slow burn 🎬Ian 🎬multiple POV 🎬Kimber and Brandon 🎬using the play to decipher clues 🎬annoying cops to yell at (loudly) 🎬a great closing act
The Rhyme: Parker is determined to clear Tessa’s name and maybe find love along the way. But it will take the CIA, writing a play, and self defence to survive the day.
Highly recommend. Part of a series, but fully stands alone. The first couple is a big part of this book so knowing their story made it extra awesome.
Thanks to @traciabramson and @shadowmountainpub for a beautiful complimentary copy. My own thoughts.
Language: G (0 swears, 0 “f”); Mature Content: PG; Violence: PG13 Just running a late-night errand for her boss, Tessa (25yo) doesn’t expect to end up finding a murdered woman and fleeing from the scene. Parker (28yo) gets inspiration for his new mystery play from the woman who shows up on his uncle’s doorstep in the middle of the night. And Detective Murray is determined to apprehend Tessa quickly to clear away all the negative publicity from his last case. With the first book being about Tessa’s sister and love interest, I expected this sequel to focus on Tessa and Parker in the same way, but Kimber and Brandon have large roles to play in this second book. I enjoyed being part of the action on all sides as the points of view switched between the sisters, those trying to help prove Tessa’s innocence, and those trying to prove Tessa’s guilt. Nothing about the case is straightforward, which puts readers right where they want to be, searching through the clues with everyone else before it’s too late. The majority of characters are implied White. The mature content rating is for kissing and illegal activity. The violence rating is for assault, gun use, blood and gore, mentions of bombs, and murder. Reviewed for https://kissthebook.blogspot.com/
Wow! This book took me completely by surprise. I didn’t know what was going to happen or who the culprit was. Staged Evidence is the second book in Traci Hunter Abramson’s Pen and Dagger series. This time the main character is Tessa, Kimber’s sister. The suspense was on point as always. I was on the edge of my seat as I tried to figure out who committed the crime. I love the hints given throughout the book and yet I was still surprised by the end. The story was engaging and it was cool to see Kimber and Brandon again. I loved seeing their perspectives. The way that the characters considered the murder mystery was intriguing and it was fun to follow along on their journey. The romance was also perfect. Parker and Tessa were forced together by their circumstances. I loved the progression of their relationship as they learned to trust each other and work together. They had an easy chemistry and it was sweet to read about them falling for each other. I really enjoyed this book and I would totally recommend it! I loved getting to know the characters and seeing some of the old characters. I am excited to see what will come next in this series. Staged Evidence is a clean romantic suspense.
Staged Evidence by Traci Hunter Abramson was a delightful read! When the main character, Tessa, comes across a murder scene, she ends up running from danger. She becomes the prime suspect, and all the evidence just “happens” to point to her. She can’t trust the police and must rely on her sister, a CIA operative, to uncover the truth before it is too late. Unlike many mystery books where the main character is in the wrong place at the wrong time but just happens to solve a mystery, this book was a lot more realistic, which I really appreciated. The book was fast paced and not predictable, which I loved.
The content is clean, kisses only, and no swearing. It is harder to find a good heart-pounding thriller that is still a clean read. I will definitely be reading more from Abramson.
This is the second book in Abramson’s Pen and Dagger Series, but it stands alone so you can read it first and not feel lost (although I recommend the first as well!).
Thank you to NetGalley and Shadow Mountain Publishing for an ARC and for the opportunity to leave a review. These opinions are my own. That said, I loved the book so much that I purchased it as a gift for a friend.
Traci Abramson's books are always so good! They keep me wanting to know what happens next from the very beginning. This one definitely kept me intrigued from the start.
This book is about Tessa. One day she stumbles upon a murder. And the next thing she knows, she's the one being investigated as if she's the criminal. I loved the way Tessa gets herself hidden before things can escalate. She's able to keep herself one step ahead of the bad guys for most of the story.
I love that she runs into Parker and the two of them are able to work together. Parker is a great guy and he figures out a creative way to communicate with Tessa's sister and his uncle who are trying to help them from afar.
I really love that this one has points of view from Kimber (Tessa's sister) and her boyfriend, Brandon, as well as Tessa and Parker. These four work so well together as they try to figure things out.
It was really fun for me as a reader to not have any idea who the bad guys were. I figured things out along with the characters.
This book is so great! I can't wait for Traci Hunter Abramson's next book!
