The stunning conclusion to the incredible story of Proxy!
Brian Yi has lived his whole life for other people. First his parents, who treated him as a trophy to impress their friends, and later his bosses at the factory. Right up until the day he became something much more than he'd ever dreamed of. A monster. A hero. Or if the nightly news can be trusted something that combines a little of both.
Infected, with powers and liabilities that no one else in the entire world has ever had. The ability to travel to the location of a person about to die, and take their place...
A hero, except that things aren't totally as they seem, and his greatest enemy in the whole world has had far more control over creating Proxy, the superhero, than anyone ever would have guessed.
Now he must face the most painful of truths. The world is in the balance, and if he can't find a way to beat a person from another world that doesn't play by any rules other than her own, the fate of all humanity is sealed. For all time.
P.S. Power works in fiction, mainly focusing on Fantasy, Science Fiction and Horror genres, with brief forays into other things just to keep life interesting. He averages 1 to 2 books monthly and has several series going. He lives in an isolated cabin in the middle of nowhere, as a recluse, yet still manages to find time to talk to people online, in a positive and delightful manner. Not one of those creepy hermit types though, you understand. It's more of an isolated farm style thing. Or ranch really. He's also interested in three dimensional photography, and long moonlit walks on the beach, sometimes with vampires. When he can find time he also does writing and voice work for scripted online programs. Anyway, feel free to drop him a line. Or visit his forum: http://pspowerbooks.com/phpBBF/index.php
In chatting with Dale over the past few weeks, it was decided that he was interested in blogging to you, his readers. The blog he had within the main site was not going to be a viable solution and there were thoughts of just creating a Forum where only he could post and everyone else could reply. This MOD is a nice meeting of the two for what will hopefully be a highly successful blog!
Hoping this first (and only) post by me will kick off a nice method of interaction with Dale's readers!

I'm done. Finally. 9 books, about 300 pages on average I believe? If you plan to read this series, try to read it in one go like I did, or make a glossary and plot sheet or something. Even if you read it without putting down the series, be aware that some characters might seem like new characters to you until more information is added shortly after. (*hust* Who the f* was Mickey? Oh, the guy that NEVER did anything for the plot? I see! Well, obviously I never forgot his name at all! *hust*) Overall, it was a solid series. Recommended if you like reading about superpowers, flawed people and don't mind repition and a long reading time about the same world.
First off, well done finale. I liked that bit about Braid, that I was both correct and incorrect with my theory. Stuff I believed to be odd made sense overall now, too, to a degree. Why we needed a whole book with nearly zero plot progression with Tobin I still don't know though. (Jup, I'm still salty over that one, I loved that character before I read his POV.)
There were some sad & dramatic things, but let's be honest here. In not a single book was there a character who died. The one dead character, a ghost, is still around as well. I mean, of course people died, but they weren't important. I, as the reader, couldn't care less about them. Sorry Ink, who got maybe 5 pages screentime. And the one character who might die in this last book of it all - MC Brian - well. He is the one who always goes on and on about not living long, living on borrowed time. So even if he were to kick the bucket, it's just not unexpected. (No spoilers here how it ends!) The problem now with this finale is that there's no tension. We want to see how everything unravels, how everything works out (and it does, really good, too), but there's no flood of emotion. I wanted to see how it ends, but more because I was interested in the plot, not because I wanted to know whether the characters (who I should probably love a lot more than I do) survive or not. If half of the cast died, I probably wouldn't have been that sad, overall. Unless you killed Denis. How that bastard of book 1 got to be my most favourite character (Bridgie a close second) I'm not sure.
Overall, recommended for a long reading trip. Would give 3 stars for the series as a whole, with the books deserving two to four stars. Not one book was horrible, but not one was that awesome either.
Good Yarn But (a review of the entire "Infected" series)
Powers is a good story teller; good enugh to keep me going through 9 volumes. Hemmingway or even Eando Binder she isn't. Unless was being tongue in cheek her liberal/progressive ideology really got on my nerves at times. Powers paints all conservatives as haters and incurable bigots. She even calls (what is clearly, though not explicitly named) Fox the "hate network". Then she turns around and paints CNN as a veritable font of truth and responsible journalism. My experience as regards either network is "somewhat" divergent. She is also SORELY in need of an editor/proof reader. While her writing goofs are minor they are very annoying to one who knows which form of "to" (to, too, or two) belongs in a given sentence. It was these annoying flaws plus a highly contrived ending which caused me to rate the series as I did.
On the plus side she does flesh out her main characters reasonably well although some of her other characters are really more like caricatures or cardboard cutouts. You truly do come to care for these characters.
As with the rest of the books in the series, I devoured this one. It wasn't my favorite by far, but did a decent job of completing the story. I think it felt a little disjointed, and left some of the story untold, not that it was integral to the narrative. All in all it was worth the read.
Great ending for the first part of the series, I liked how Brian got to develope his powers altough he kind of lost that unique characterist of his, he gained so much more. I have to hand it to the author in making a great 'enemy' of Braid to think she had already won befor things even started. The thing with Mary hurt a little but thats life I guess. Great story though.
Spool ma.y people I've seen in the characters. Love the development and each having a real roll. Sad and glad for Brian. Great series. Look forward to more of your books. Need hard copies n oh w :)
The author has written a great ending to this story line. I have enjoyed the series and know I will enjoy reading the other series Power has been writing. Who knows, Brian might show up in other realities sometime.
