I both loved and disliked various aspects of this novel. Over all it was an awesome story, but it didn't feel like a polished diamond. I'd describe this novel as a diamond in the rough.

I'm not usually a grammar freak, but this novel pushed me to the cliffs edge. When I look back on my notes on my iPad it feels like I was editing the book instead of just reading it. In my personal opinion, I think this would have gone over better as a duology instead of a full length book. At one point in the story I felt a whole other massive storyline be introduced and before it became interesting I had to fight myself to not give up on this book.

I loved certain things about Hunter. He was caring, loyal to a fault, loved his personal space and his privacy. I didn't like the all around hot and cold relationship he and Colette had going on, but I persevered trough it. Story wise, I was not disappointed.

Colette was a really nice character to get to know. She's the tortured turned strong heroine that I love so much. It was really amazing to see her progress from victim to strong almost alpha female. The story starts off very dark while she's in captivity. She forms a bond with Griffin and it only gets more complicated as the story progresses.

Conclusion: This story was amazing, but it needs a few more rounds of editing. I'd love to re-read this if it ever gets re-edited. I usually am not a fan of re-reading, but I think this book is worth it.

P.S. Those bonus chapter's in Hunter's point of view were amazing! I'd definitely be interested in a novella in his point of view after the happily ever after.

Favorite Quotes:

"Now my spontaneous self needs to go be spontaneous elsewhere."

"He had me heart, body, soul, and wolf."

"[...] if I don't come out in the next five minutes, the dress ate me."

This book blew me away! I'm not a huge fan of the whole Romeo and Juliet concept, but this story was stellar! The plot was more complex than many of the shifter books. The characters are complex and have their own personalities. The romance is a fresh change of pace. The evolution of feelings in this book were more natural and less you Jane, me Tarzan, we mate now. Anyway, five glittery stars!

Collette spent most of her childhood being abused. As a half wolf- half witch hybrid, she never quite fit in anywhere. After being captured and tortured by a warlock, Collette meets Griff, a werewolf who she bonds with. Griff's pack rescues them and Collette finally finds a home with Griff's pack. However, as Collette turns 21, everything is about to change. Thanks to a curse placed upon the werewolves by witches centuries ago, a werewolf will know their true mate by scent when they are both 21. Collette quickly learns that her true mate is not Griff, but a wolf named Hunter from a southern pack. Collette hates to leave her family, but is determined to make things work with Hunter no matter how difficult it may seem. Complications arise when Collette learns that Hunter's pack are witch hunters and does everything she can to hide that part of herself as she gets to know Hunter. Just as Collette is feeling ready to complete the mating ritual with Hunter, she is captured by a witch who has plans to use Collette in order to control the werewolves and bring herself to power.

Hexed Hearts is a new-adult paranormal romance with star crossed lovers, witches and werewolves. I was captured in the very beginning as Collette is held hostage and Griff helps her survive. I do wish we could have seen a little more of Collette and Griff growing up together to cement their bond. They were obviously shared more than surviving being captured together. I was very interested in the curse and why witches would curse the wolves to know their true mate, since this didn't exactly seem like a bad thing to me. We do find out more about the curse later on when the witches enter the scene, but I still feel like I was missing some backstory. Things heated up when Hunter and Collette found one another and Collette had to leave her pack. There was a lot of tension as Collette was taken away by a pack and mate that she didn't know and could potentially be a threat to her as a half-witch. I'm glad Collette and Hunter got to know one another and eventually trust one another, and this is the bulk of the story; however, nothing exciting happens until almost the end as Collette is captured. In Collette's confinement, we finally learn a lot about the witch and werewolf feud and Collette learns to harness her powers together. The ending wrapped up quickly and I was a little confused by Collette's actions, but I'm glad for where she ended up.

3 stars for the story, but the author definitely could have used a spell checker! Missing commas, incomplete sentences... I those un likable!

And what was up with the plot after halfway through? What are you doing? No...

It's been 24 hours and I already forgot the main character's name. I liked her making her own choices, but at the same time I think she did not use what she had and like a cliche character, was suddenly given super-über-powers that she defeated the enemy with... not with skill, really, or brains. I would have liked that.

Hunter was a nice hero and I could sympathize with him, but I felt like he was missing depth and that his past was mostly either left out or "force fed" to the reader.

Nah.

Werewolf, Witches and Warlocks oh my!

Wow another epic read from Becca Vincenza. Her words create a movie in your head and you can't wait to see what happens how it ends.
Rescued from hunters at a young and pack bonded to Griffin, Collette didn't know what to expect the night of her 21st birthday. Find out her mate wasn't part of her pack was just the beginning, learning she was part witch would change everything.
Can Collette find love with Hunter the person she is dated or will her magic tear them apart?

My Thoughts

As many of you know, paranormal is my favorite genre. As you can imagine, when it comes to my favorite genre, it takes a whole lot to impress me. In a genre where absolutely anything is possible, it takes a lot for me to get that wow factor when it comes to a paranormal read. Tie that in with my passion for the New Adult genre and you've got to have one fantastic read to impress this kid. I have to say that every time I think of New Adult Paranormal, one author comes to mind, Miss Becca Vincenza. And why's that? Well because she's the best, of course. Over the course of four novels now, Becca has continues to wow me to no end. Why should her newest novel, Hexed Hearts be any exception? It shouldn't. In fact, it's my new favorite Becca Vincenza read!

Folks this tome is massive. Over 300 pages of Becca Vincenza paranormal awesomeness. I couldn't hardly put it down. When it comes to the plot of this one, you've better hold on to your hats. Twists, turns, surprise after surprise, and enough mystery, suspense, and emotion to satisfy even the most difficult-to-please readers. Hunted by two faces for her hidden gifts, Colette is more than a little misunderstood. Having been raised by wolves her entire life, she never imagine she was actually half-witch, a paranormal anomaly. With a monumental birthday on the horizon, Colette must gather her courage for what, or who, is to come! Action packed sequences mixed with heartwarming romance, Hexed Hearts is sure to please!

I'd be lying if I said I didn't fall hard for the characters in this novel. From Colette to Hunter and Griffin, each character is written with such depth and understanding that you can't help but empathize with each of their complex issues. With each passing page we get deeper into the psyche of each character and find that we can not only feel for them, but relate to them as well. Being a New Adult isn't easy, especially when you're afflicted with a paranormal stamp on your forehead. Becca wrote her characters to be perfect representations of New Adults, but they reflect so much more than that. they're all mature beyond their years, their intelligent beyond compare, they're loyal, compassionate, and more human than we can ever hope to be. It's perfectly written characters like this that keep me begging for more. This novel had a huge cast so I can't begin to mention them all, but the secondary characters in this one were among the best I have ever seen. Each was well written with a purpose that helped to shape the incredible world Becca created.

Form the forests of Michigan to the American South to the wild Montana west, Hexed Hearts takes the readers on quite the journey. The geographic location of the novel isn't really, but after finishing the novel it was intriguing to me to notice how each setting reflected something new in Becca's story. Safety, family, isolation. I found so many metaphorical correlations between the settings of the novel and the plot line that makes me 100% sure that Vincenza knew what she was doing when she wrote this masterpiece. My inner literary nerd was beyond pleased!

So as the synopsis mentions, this is a romance. I have to say that even though I'm not one for romance, I loved the romance aspect of this book. It does have a type of love-triangle in it, but nothing like you're thinking. It's deep seeded and emotional to a fault. I really cared deeply for all of the characters involved and sincerely wished for a happy ending for all three. I very seldom find my opinions on which couple I do/don't like changing, but this novel did a completely 180 on me. By the end, I had completely changed my mind on who I wanted to be together and I loved Becca for changing my mind. It's phenomenal. There are only a few sex-sceneish moments and they were written to perfection. Nothing too much, nothing 'trashy', just love. Plain and simple. I really appreciated that.

When if comes to the paranormal element of the novel, Becca seriously killed it. I will be honest, of all the paranormal tropes, werewolves are my least favorite. I just don't really get into them as much, but after this read, they're making their way to the top of my list. It was incredible how Becca was able to tell their story to completion without having to tell me ten thousand years of lore and backstory. That gets old, quick. Becca took her own spin on the legends and ran with it, giving the genre a side I really enjoyed. As per the witch side, I enjoyed that as well. I wish there had been a bit more on the witch end, but at the same time, I loved the werewolf parts so much that the witch stuff could just disappear and I'd be just fine! In true Becca Vincenza fashion, she'd definitely reminded me how awesome paranormal can be.

Becca Vincenza has worked hard on every novel she's written and it's very obvious in the passion we see in her published novels. Over the course of four novels, Becca has secured herself a spot on my auto-buy bookshelf. I will forever hold a special place for Becca Vincenza in my bookish heart. Every time I think something can't be done, she proves me otherwise. From dragons, to sirens, to wraiths, and now werewolves, Becca Vincenza has quickly become one of my favorite names in paranormal fiction!

As you guys can see, Hexed Hearts was definitely a read that was right up my alley. I cannot say enough great things about it. With that being said, it should come as no surprise that I am granting Hexed Hearts by Becca Vincenza a near-perfect 5-star review. My favorite book of hers so far! I cannot wait to see what she does with these characters and this world in the future! A perfect read for all new adult, paranormal, and romance fans. Add this to your TBR today!

We meet Colette in one of the hardest times of her life. Beaten and caged, she was certain she would die. But even in the darkest moments, she was able to make a friend. She met Griffin in those cages and they created a bond that was almost as strong as any mate bond. Time passes and they grow up and it is time for her 21st birthday. She hoped that she would find her friend as her mate, not just her best friend. But fate had something else in store for Colette and it is in the name of Hunter. A were who was more wolf than man for the half-breed who was more woman than wolf.

Hunter and Colette weren’t looking for one another, but what they found was more than either could ever imagine. And honestly, I sat on the fence in the beginning on this one. I REALLY liked Griffin. I REALLY wanted it to be him. Even at the end of the book, I STILL really liked him. I agree with many others who have asked for a story about Griffin. I can’t say that I disliked Hunter, but he really did feel like a usurper. But the more than Colette learned about him, we learned about him too. So we were able to fall in love with him like she was. Then dastardly things happened. UGH! Dastardly things! But you need to read it to know what they are.

Ms. Vincenza delivered the book we were waiting on. I know this book was stressful at times for her. But it was worth the wait. She has this ability to sink us deep and fast into the culture of her characters and it doesn’t feel artificial or foreign. I know I haven’t finished her other series, and I do promise that I will. I am working through my TBR pile for the blog. But this book, it’s different and it’s beautiful and it makes even wounded souls beautiful. So would I recommend this book? Oh yes! Shoot YES! This book is steamier than some, but not nearly as bad as others. So take that what you will.

*YAWN*

The premise for this one was a good one. I started out in the edge of seat and fully intrigued. It comes down to a very loosely built world, full of holes and desperately lacking in details. The emotions conveyed were great in the first few chapters but after that everything fell flat. Frankly I'm surprised I finished it.

If I didn't already love Becca Vincenza's writing, Hexed Hearts would make me fall head over heels. Becca has a way of bringing her characters to life, making you feel every tear, every kiss, every irrational moment of jealousy and anger. The beginning is heartbreaking!!! Remove yourself from breakables and have extra tissues. Out of something horrible, Lettie and Griff form a bond that can't be broken. Lettie is half wolf, unable to shift. Griff is the son of the Alpha, the next in line to rule the pack. When Lettie turns 21, the unimaginable happens and has the potential to crush them both. Hunter is the unknown, searching for a warlock to distroy. Everyone knows the Lowe pack has a hatred for anything magic. While driving by, he catches the scent of him mate, Lettie. Everything works against this young couple, even their own mistrust and fear. How much does someone have to give up, in order to have a HEA? How far will other people go to keep them apart?

Becca brings the right amount of drama and heat to keep you interested and wanting more! Several times I found myself wanting to reach into the book to help, to hug, to throat punch someone.

Loved this story! Hunter is quite the alpha. Very sexy and demanding and I loved how his story was built up and not just told at once and let's face it he should've had a man bun the whole story ;) We got to see some of the horrors that Colette had to face as a child and out of that the wonderful pack that took her in. I really enjoyed Griffin and the things he did for her and I'm glad that their strong bond didn't turn into a love triangle! I really hope he gets a story of his own because I would love to see him with his own mate. At the end of this story we get a preview of hunters pov and I can't wait! There were a lot of gaps left and though they didn't effect this story at all I can't wait to see what happened in those times. Hunter has moved his way to the top of my alpha list and I can't wait of the next book!!!

Hexed Hearts by Becca Vincenza is a NA paranormal romance with witches and werewolves.
The story focuses on Colette, a half werewolf who discovers on her 21st birthday that she isn't half human, instead she is half witch. This is a big issue since the witches and werewolves are enemies. She also discovers that she has a werewolf soul mate, one who hunts witches. Colette and Hunter have to learn to trust each other and let their love grow.
The story was amazing. It was unique and it drew me right in. Ms. Vincenza created wonderfully relatable characters and I loved reading about their lives.
I definitely recommend this book to fans of paranormal romance.

So the MH is supposed to be 21. The other main characters in her life are the same age or older. However they acted like High Schoolers as far as maturity goes. I had to keep reminding myself that they were older. Poor communication skills, immature decisions, and insta-love. It was ok if you like that stuff.

Can I get a round of applause please? I finished this long-ass-winded book! Weehoo, I feel so accomplished. Basically, all the important action happens in the last 30%, and the first 70? Colette is deliberating over her fucking exhausting feelings. Get. Your. Shit. Together. Woman. You are a grown ass woman, aren't you, and not some angsty thirteen-year old?

Fucking. Shit.

Becca has this way of creating characters that you connect with in this gravitational pull kind of intensity, this book is no exception. I adored the characters and the story draws you in from the very beginning. Then the story morphs from what you thought it was going to be into so much more!

I love paranormal romance. And to see the mating stuff through first person POV was a awesome sight. To see how she caught his scent when he rode past was awesome. To see the trials and errors she had to endure just to be with the man she loved, was like watching a action romance movie. I loved it

Decent read

This book was decent. The plot was interesting but was missing substance to me. Collete got on my nerves and was quite immature. Hunter was just too unemotional for me. I'm unsure if I would recommend this one.

*This book was given to me by the author in exchange for an honest review*

Collette’s life up until 10 has not been good. Her mother isn’t in her life, her father was abusive towards her, and she gets kidnapped by these scary men that put her in a cage, and want to try to use her abilities. The problem is, she has no idea the abilities they are talking about. They keep telling her to transform but she doesn’t understand what they mean. In the next cage is a boy a little bit older than her, named Griffin. He promises to take care of her no matter what. When the men try to get to Collette again, Griffin transforms into a werewolf to protect her, and Griffin’s pack come to rescue them. After the pack take care of the men, they plan to only take Griffin back, but he explains that he needs Collette in his life because he pack bonded with her, and it would cause a lot of issues if they are away from each other for too long. Collette learns that the reason the men wanted her is because she’s half human half werewolf also. She has heightened senses like a wolf but for some reason she can’t transform. When she turns 21, her mating ritual starts and she wants her mate to be Griffin since she’s the closest to him, but it turns out she’s not mated to anyone in her own pack. She also learns that she is not part human, but part witch and that may be why she could never fully transform. She’s scared to let her pack mates know because witches and warlocks are the number 1 enemy to werewolves. She’s upset with everything going on so she goes out for a walk where she runs into a different werewolf pack who are on the search for some warlocks who have been killing werewolves. It’s then that she meets Hunter who starts off being rude, annoyed with seemingly everything, and is super jealous of Collette’s and Griffin’s close friendship. He also happens to be Collette’s mate. Collette thinks that it’s ironic that they are mates because Hunter seems more wolf than man whereas Collette seems to be more human than wolf. Collette does not like Hunter at first but decides that she has to at least give him a try. She gives herself 6 months to go with him and his pack, and to see if she wants to make their mating official. Hunter and Collette bond and start getting to know one another more, however more warlocks show up and seem to be very interested in Collette and seem to know a lot more about her then she knows about herself.
While I enjoyed reading the werewolf aspects of the story, I did not really care for the witch parts. Honestly I think the whole witch aspect made the story drag a bit. If it was just a story about her finding out she has a mate from a different pack, and them learning to trust and care for one another it would have been a stronger story. The witch story line does add a little but I think that if it was reworked or taken out it would have been better. There were also a few sections that phrasing was repeated over and over and things got just a little too repetitive at times but otherwise it’s a decent paranormal romance. I would be interested to see Hunters POV because he is more wolf than man and that may be an interesting story line with his animal instincts taking over and helping understand why he makes some of the decisions that he makes.

Erratic

If you have ever read Blood Destiny series by Helen Harper, this book is like that, but not as well thought through. Honestly, save yourself the trouble and find Bloodfire. If you have already read it, you'll be disappointed here. Too many inconsistencies and too many afterthought make me want to just stop reading and never pick it up again. I only gave an extra star because I wanted to trudge through to see what the conclusion is. Colette is a horrible character. Immature, stupid, weak, and way too selfish. "oh, Griff would be better off without me," yet yearns for him through half the book. Nonsense conversations give her something to think about, no real resolution. We get it, she's half were. You can't make her a superhero in the last 10% after being a pathetic nitwit through the rest....... rant over, I'm not going to recommend it to anyone, but so you understand, if you want to read it, go for it. Trudge forward with this one warning. You'll never get your reading time back.

While it was able to hold my interest it also ended a bit disappointing in my opinion.
I was thrown from one situation to the next without even knowing where to end where to start.
It seemed like all of it should have been a bit more detailed and maybe would have been better as more then one book.

Grabbed me from the start

Colette is a half werewolf and is taken in by a local pack. On her 21st birthday everything she has ever known changes. She discovers she has a mate and more about her other half. The story follows Hunter and Colette through their courtship, then takes a sudden turn when she is kidnapped. It is a stand alone HEA. The companion novel is Hunter's Heart.
