He was her reckless. She was his calm. An unlikely pair, but their hearts echoed an undeniable shared rhythm. Until doubt tore them apart. Now they have a second chance to get it right, but their love isn't the only thing on the line.
Rowan Ives
She was the golden girl cheerleader. He was the drummer with reckless charm. They couldn’t stay away from each other, sharing stolen moments of a love that could never last.
Eight years ago, she followed her dreams away from her small hometown in Ohio. Desperate to see if there was more out there.
But when tragedy brings her back, she finds herself standing across from the only man who ever had her heart.
Axel Wolfe
He’s no longer the wild-hearted bad boy he once was. He’s a man now—steady, grounded, and running his family farm to take the weight off his parent’s shoulders.
Numb with the recent loss of his best friend and guilt weighing on his conscience, he feels lost. Until Rowan returns, breathing life back into his lungs.
The spark between them reignites instantly.
One look brings back everything Rowan tried to forget… and everything Axel never could.
When Rowan stumbles onto whispers of corruption beneath their town’s cozy charm, she’s drawn into a battle for the truth—and into Axel’s arms all over again.
Old flames. Small-town secrets. And another shot at the kind of love that never really let go.
I liked the story and the MMC was truly wonderful. Didn't like the FMC especially as a teenager with no mind of her own. The story had some loose ends I didn't like. So I still have questions about their friend and how he died. But it was overall a fun read.

With Every Echo is the debut novel for author MJ Deck. I had the pleasure of reading this ARC by Luna Literary. When I say this is a smash hit debut, I am serious. This book literally had EVERYTHING and all the feels from page one! It does have some heavy topics right from beginning though. I would say that if you are healing from fresh grief this may be a trigger. If you have sat in grief for a while, then I know that you will be able to understand and relate to this story. I loved the dual perspective and the transition from the present to the past was pretty seamless.
I knew from the middle of chapter one that this book was going to rip my heart out and was hopeful that by the end it would be pieced back together, a little tattered and bruised of course. By chapter two I was crying, and my heart was broken for Axel. I could feel his grief woven into the pages of this story. This second chance romance was more relatable than the stereotypical second chance trope we have come to know and love. I think it will resonate with readers because of all the layers and emotions from the start. As a reader you know this is going to be messy and hurt but also make you laugh and love all the same.
Rowan and Axel center each other and bring a calming breath to the tough situations that cannot be achieved by anyone else other than the person you love unconditionally. I do wish we had some burning questions answered though. I also wish we got to experience a little more of Baxter’s story. I hope that all of those things will come to light in the future.
I want to read more of their story and was sad to see it come to an end! I hope that this is not the end of the road for Ax and Roe. I hope to see their story continue and that we get some answers regarding Bax and the good ole’ doctor. I can see other storylines and couples peak through as well. I hope my predictions for those couples are correct. I am so glad I was given the opportunity to read this book, and I can’t wait to see what else Awena Falls has to offer us. I am a fan and will be following the series. I can already sense this series could become a reread for me.
You’re telling me this was a debut?! What an absolute smash hit! From the very first chapters, I knew this story was going to wreck me in the best way possible. It tore me apart and then slowly, beautifully stitched me back together again.
The dual POV and flashbacks were done so well. I’m usually not a huge fan of flashbacks, but here they felt essential. Each one adding depth and emotion, helping the story unfold exactly how it needed to. Getting those small glimpses into Rowan and Axel’s past made me feel every ounce of their connection. Their first kiss at band camp? So raw, so real and don’t even get me started on the spice!
Rowan and Axel’s story is a heart tugging, second chance romance between slightly forbidden lovers turned high school sweethearts. When Rowan leaves their small town, she shatters Axel’s world, and it’s a tragedy, a friend’s funeral, that brings them face to face again. From there, they have to decide if love can survive the years apart and the pain that followed. Spoiler: it’s emotional, messy, and so worth it.
MJ Deck crafted a story where grief and heartbreak feel tangible! You can practically touch the emotion pouring off the page. And the fact that this is a debut? Mind blowing. The writing is heartfelt, the characters feel real, and the ending left me clutching my chest (and smiling through tears) with that perfect HEA.
This book has all the small-town charm and emotional punch I love. MJ Deck set up such a nice world, and I can already see the potential for a full series. I’ll definitely be first in line to see where these side characters go next!
Thanks to the author and luna literary for the arc! :)
I was lucky enough to read this as an eARC from Luna Literary Management and enjoyed it. Rowan and Axel first meet at summer camp and are an opposites attract high school love story that sadly parts ways to follow separate dreams. Eight years later they are reunited to mourn the loss of a close friend. Brought together in grief can Rowan and Axel overcome their past and dive head first into the love that was always meant to be.
With Every Echo is written in dual POV with flashbacks to the past helping us build a picture of Rowan and Axels friendship and love story. The flashbacks peeter out and we then follow them as they work through their grief and feelings as well as deal with the repercussions of everybodys actions. This book beautifully blends some real world issues, such as the opioid crisis, mental health and addiction struggles and the importance of local government, with a heartfelt second chance romance. These topics add depth to the story but I almost wish we had more time to dive deeper into them, but as always there's only so many words.
If you enjoy a spicy second chance romance with a small town setting and lovable main characters give this one a try. It's emotional and heartfelt and I enjoyed the journey these characters go on. This is book 1 in the Awena Falls series and I'm interested to head back there and see how the other characters we were introduced to find love as well. 3.75⭐️
With Every Echo is a second chance small-town romance told in two timelines and the first book in the Awena Falls series.
All in all, this was a cute story. Awena Falls offers all the small-town charm you could wish for including lovely (and not-so-lovely) side characters. Rowan and Axel were high school sweethearts who meet again at the funeral of one of their friends from this time. The book continues in two timelines, one telling us about their relationship in high school and one telling us about the present. It‘s a story about growing up, the pressure of being popular, and becoming who you‘re meant to be. It‘s about grief and friendship and small-town politics.
There were so many intriguing elements, but in my opinion, in the end, the story didn‘t deliver. Instead of going deep with one problem, there was always something new around the corner waiting. I‘m a bit confused about some of the storylines left open; they were made so big and then just left with a shrug and a “ not the right time.” I‘m sure they will come up in book two again, but the way this was done just lacked finesse.
Overall this book kept the balance between the parts I enjoyed and the parts where I felt things were a bit inconsistent and confusing. It was an entertaining story, but I won‘t shout about it from the rooftops.
Thank you to the author and Luna Literary for the gifted ARC. All opinions are my own.
One of my favorite things about this book was the dual POV, it really allowed us into the heads and thought processes of the MMC and the FMC and their painful pasts and what lead complicated history.
This second chance romance really did destroy me in the best way possible. I loved the glimpses into their pasts and seeing what brought them together as well as all of the trials and tribulations that come with high school first loves. These two really went through the ringer in their early years and it allows you to experience it alongside each one of them.
MJ Deck took difficult topics like grief, heartbreak, and substance abuse and weaved them together so effortlessly. She also gave us two characters that you cannot help but love. My heart ached for Axel and his pain radiated off of the page. His love for Rowan was something fierce and so beautiful to watch – and the angst and tension was top notch. That barn scene was delicious. I love our Rowan; you couldn’t help but root for her – she loves so fiercely and really had been through so much.
I really loved how this story showed two people that fight for one another even in the worst of circumstances and continue to show up for each other. I loved watching the Rowan and Axel fight for their happiness as well as to find their way back to one another despite the odds.
What to Expect: 🥁 Second Chance Romance 🤍 Dual Timeline 🥁 Forbidden Love 🤍 Small Town Romance 🥁 Drummer MMC 🤍 Lawyer FMC
Thank you to Luna Literary Management and MJ for providing me with an advanced copy of With Every Echo. As always, my opinions are my own!
What to Expect: 🌼 Second Chance 🖤 Duel Timeline 🌼 Forbidden Love 🖤 Bad Boy x Cheerleader 🌼 Small Ohio Town 🖤 Drummer MMC x Lawyer FMC 🌼 Hurt/Comfort
This book ripped out my heart, stomped on it, patched it up and put it back in my chest all within the first couple of chapters. While this book is a romance, and it is VERY good.. it is not messing around and definitely covers heavy topics involving grief, guilt and loss. I found myself crying one chapter and smiling ear to ear the next like I had emotional whiplash. (in a good way)
I’ve read that authors can also be referred to as manipulators. They can influence and manipulate people’s feelings and emotions with their words and their stories and I’ve never felt this to be true until I read this book. I will be reading more from MJ and I hope that I get to read more from the Awena Falls series.
This is my first book that I have read by MJ Deck and I really enjoyed this book.

They couldn’t stay away from each other, sharing stolen moments of a love that could never last. But eight years ago, she followed her dreams away from her small hometown in Ohio. Desperate to see if there was more out there. Then tragedy sticks and brings her back, she finds herself standing across from the only man who ever had her heart.

Thank you MJ Deck & Luna Literally for allowing me to read this book before it was released.
Book one in a new small-town, spicy romance interconnected series.
The chemistry between the two MCs right from the beginning is beautifully written. We all have that one person that got away, and this story brings that to light. And you get to see it from both sides with the duel POV and timeline. It truly grabs you from the beginning and has you hooked to know if they will finally come back together.
There is one unanswered question still left by the end of the book that I just wish had a clearer answer to. But this could also be the best hook for an interconnected series to continue off of. So I say well done to the author.
My final thoughts on this new series, when does the next one come out? If you're looking for a new romance series that's going to make you smile, laugh, and cry, add this to your TBR.
I really have to hand it to MJ Deck here; the dual timeline allows you the POV of both the MMC and the FMC from when they fucked up to now, where they are working through what they are facing.
We all have been through our own high school break ups and make ups, but what not a lot of people talk about is coming back to your hometown to grieve a friend. It’s something nobody ever wants to do, yet we all do it more than we realize.
She truly did a phenomenal job talking about substance abuse, and how it not only affects the person doing it but everyone around them.
“Because this moment isn’t just about wanting her. Not right now. This is about all the words we never said and all the pieces we left scattered in the past. This is about a love that never had the time or space to grow into what it could have been. A life we might’ve had if we’d both been a little braver.”

I am going to be completely honest here…it usually takes me a minute to get into books but not this one. I was hooked immediately. Rowen comes back to her small town after 8 years to attend the wake of her close high school friend. Add in the tension of the one person she does not want to see but does and then she ends up leaving with him! I needed to know it all….why she left, what happened between her and the high love interest Alex and everything in between. It’s small town romance, second chances, rocker guy/cheerleader girl told in dual timelines. This one had all the feels…heartbreak, grief, regret but also love and finding yourself. Thanks to Luna Literary for this ARC in return for my honest review!
I don’t even know how to describe what this book has done to me. I’ve never felt so many emotions in the space of a book before. The beginning is so sad and the descriptions of each scene and how the main characters were feeling was heartbreaking. The fact that you learn the story of Rowan and Axel from their high school years aswell as their adult life makes everything so much more emotional. It makes you understand just what situation they were both in and how things happened the way they did. I laughed, cried, got angry and certain characters and shocked at parts. I even felt nervous at one point for Rowan towards the end of the book. I would 100% recommend this book if you love a small town romance romance.
I really liked this book. Rowan felt layered, sometimes broken but still strong, and Axel gave all that mix of charm, tension, and quiet care that made him stand out. The chemistry between them was strong from the start, and even when things got heavy, the spark stayed alive. The writing had those flashbacks that added depth and sometimes made me nostalgic. The small town vibe gave the right cozy feeling. By the end I felt touched and curious for the rest of the series. Thank you so much to the author and Luna Literary PR for giving me the opportunity to read the book in advance, I received this for free and I'm leaving an honest review.
Axel and Rowan’s chemistry in With Every Echo was magnetic. From the very start, their connection had that perfect mix of tension, passion, and raw emotion that kept me glued to the pages. I felt everything right along with them—the highs, the heartbreak, the quiet moments, and the ones that completely stole my breath.
MJ Deck’s writing delivers an emotional punch while still giving us swoony, heartfelt romance. This book put me through every emotion possible, and I loved every second of it.
I’m already obsessed with this new series, and I seriously cannot wait for the next book. If the rest of the series is anything like this one, it’s going to be an instant favorite.
This book is very touching. All the feels come out while reading this book. Rowan left her small town 9 years ago and returned after finding out a good friend, Bax, passed away. She had also left her job after losing a big case causing her to question what she was doing. Axel was Bax’s best friend and Rowan’s first love. But Rowan left without a word when Bax and Axel went on tour. The book is about grief, two lovers trying to find their way back to each other and Rowan trying to figure out what she is going to do with her life. Make sure you read the trigger warnings.
This is a small town, second chance romance. From the very beginning you can feel the tension and pull, between Rowan and Axel, but because of their complicated past and the complicated issues talked about in the book, this isn't an insta love story, but rather a slow burn, focused on healing one.
The way the heavier parts were discussed was really well done, but somehow between the flash backs and how annoyed I felt by the FMC, I never really connected with this book.
thank you to Luna Literary Management for the eARC
Worth Every Echo was such a heartfelt and emotional story that pulled me in right from the start.
The characters felt so real and raw, and I loved the way their connection grew through all the ups and downs. The emotions in this one were intense but beautiful, and the way healing and love were woven together made it such a powerful read.
I adored the chemistry, the heartfelt moments, and the journey these two went on. Everything about their story made me feel deeply and kept me hooked until the very last page.
It’s surrender. To her. To us. To every year I spent aching for something I thought I’d lost for good.
Uhgg this one ripped me apart, love a second chance romance. Dual timeline, Rowan and Axel meet one summer and are complete opposites but have that amazing high school first love romance. Sadly they go separate ways and Perdue their wons dreams. But tragedy brings them back together 8 years later. The real life stuff in the book while so fantastic they’re also heart breaking! So many emotions while ready and lovely to see how it works out in the end for both of them. 🖤💕🖤
If second chance romances that has all the emotions, the heartbreak, grief and regret…then this one is one you will want to read. Rowan comes back to her small town in Ohio. She is reunited with Axel, her high school love and the only man to hold her heart. He has changed since the last time she saw him and he can’t forget the feelings that they shared. The attraction between them is electric and I loved the way they came back together.
This was such a beautiful story, Rowan and Axel are characters that I loved from the very first moment. This book got me giggling, crying, hoping and I'm so happy I got to read this. Congratulations to the author for creating an amazing story about grief, friendship, love and giving second chances to the people we love and to ourselves ✨🤍
I appreciate being part of the ARC team of this book, happy release day🩷
I'm always here for a second chance romance, and I LOVE the dual timeline aspect of it. Rowan came back to her town after eight years and ran into the one person who she didn't expect, that being her ex Axel. I love love love the small town vibes of this book, and I can't wait for the next one!
o What you will find inside this book: Second Chance Duel Timeline Forbidden Love Bad Boy & Cheerleader Small Ohio Town Drummer MMC Lawyer FMC
I had the pleasure of reading this early on in the process and I’m so excited that the world will get to see it too. It’s definitely spicy and an absolutely sweet small town romance. If you love second chances, high school sweethearts, and small town politics then this is the book for you! I can’t wait to read the next one!
This book had me crying from the beginning! It was emotional and raw and it pulled me in. The dual POV and timeline really enhanced the depth of the characters and their story. My heart really broke for Axel and I could feel his guilt and sadness. There were a couple things I feel weren’t completely explained but I am still excited for the next one!
This is a great small town spicy second chance romance. It does have some heavy topics so please make sure you are comfortable with them. It’s an emotional read but very good.
Tropes: Bad Boy x Cheerleader Forbidden Love Second Chance Small Ohio Town Duel Timeline
I loved this book, it covered some topics of loss, grief and guilt. I had moments of crying and happiest throughout this book. This book was so well written.
Thank you Luna Literary Management for giving me an advanced copy of this book.
I enjoyed the premise of the story. I think the heavy topics surrounding the two main characters were written well. It was sad and layered and I loved the yearning between the two. I also enjoyed the flash backs. I think this was done very well to integrate the relationship dynamics and background character building.
I think the book started off strong and continued to keep me engaged but the end got lost for me. Being there was really not much for conflict/climax between Rowan and Axel (I was good with that, don’t love a miscommunication trope), I expected more of a climax from some really big (non relationship) plot points. But unfortunately they were just left open with no afterthought or resolution which was very confusing and dissatisfying.
Thank you to the author and Luna Literary Management for the opportunity to read this ARC.
I think rockstar romances are just not for me. I can't connect with seeing song lyrics on the page. This book had potential, but went in a completely different direction than I thought. I thought the corruption in the town mentioned in the blurb would connect very heavily to the incidence that brings the main characters back together after so many years, but I don't even know what the corruption was really about at the end. The book was written well, but dragged in a lot of places, and wasn't as "romantic suspense" as I imagined.
Thank you to M.J. Deck and Luna Literary Management for the arc!!
