This Wasn't the Plan

Rate this book
When Stevie Jones flees the loneliness of New York for a new life in London, she’s searching for something more than just a job or change of scenery. She’s searching for herself. Her purpose.

Stevie doesn’t expect to fall into the arms of her high school sweetheart. She definitely doesn’t expect it to be okay that he's married.

Despite every warning from her conscience, Stevie becomes the other woman. Trapped in a love story that was never truly hers. As her dreams of baking, belonging, and building something real begin to unravel, so does her sense of identity.

Ashamed and emotionally drained, Stevie knows she will have to walk away from the life she thought she wanted. But heartbreak, it turns out, might be the catalyst for something much greater. Stevie might just find purpose, found family, and the courage to start again.

Empowering, emotionally raw, and laced with hope, This Wasn't the Plan is a soulful tale of what we lose in love, and what we discover when we finally choose ourselves...

Key Tropes:
1. The Other Woman / Forbidden Love

Stevie falls for a married man, crossing moral boundaries she never imagined she would.

This is a mature, morally complex romance—ideal for readers who love grey areas and emotional stakes.

2. Big City to Small Town ResetFrom New York to London, and later to the countryside—join Stevie as she starts afresh.

Ties into themes of burnout, identity crisis, and finding peace in unexpected places.

3. Coming-of-Age (in your 30s)Stevie’s tale is very much about self-discovery.

Great for readers who loved books like One True Loves, Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine, or Maybe In Another Life.

4. Found FamilyNew friends become surrogate family and business partners.

A new world offers a safe, grounded love that contrasts with the chaos.

5. Second Chance at LifeAfter betrayal, shame, and burnout, Stevie builds something new—not because of love, but because of purpose.

The perfect empowerment story for readers who’ve had to rebuild after falling apart.

6. Workplace / Passion Project RomanceBaking becomes central—it's not just a hobby, it’s a lifeline.

Stevie's story brings in foodie vibes, creative healing, and the way purpose grounds people.

LM Morgan writes books that bite.

From dark fantasy kingdoms ruled by devils to doomed love affairs that linger like ghosts, her stories explore the twisted, the tender, and the beautifully unhinged.

A genre-hopping word witch with a taste for the occult, LM weaves tales of magic, madness, and morally grey hearts across fantasy, romance, thrillers, and the just-plain-wicked.

She lives for characters you’ll fall for and lore that’ll haunt your dreams. When she’s not plotting the next heartbreak, you’ll find her at comic cons, brewing creative chaos, or talking all things bookish over tea and tarot.

Omgosh what a come back from LM Morgan..
The plot twisting this book comes out of left field.
You don't expect your 2nd chance at love to woo you, fall in love again,to end up leaving everything and everyone you know. Coercive controlling behaviour alert...
This is a story of a woman's heartache, of leaving everything not just once but twice to start again... to leave everything she knew, and dare she take the high stakes risk offered to her......

The Characters are very well developed, the difficult subjects are dealt with gentle grace and care. Everything flowed well together, all the plot points made sense.

My only issue was that Stevie did have some whiny moments. But I fully understood her fragile characteristic and in turn it all made her a stronger character, I very much enjoyed watching her grow throughout the story and finding herself on the farm.

Thanks to L M Morgan and her team for allowing me to have the opportunity to be a Beta reader. I appreciate it.
