Pastor Constance Victor has come to terms with many things- the debilitating loneliness from losing her father, and the fact that Polycystic Ovary Syndrome has stopped her and husband, Reggie from having children. Nonetheless, barrenness isn’t the only issue in her union with Reginald Anderson, whose last name she refuses to take. Pastor Connie pays the cost to be the boss and she wears the pants in every area of her marriage. Yet, she has no remorse for Reggie because he knew what he signed up for when marrying Thomas Victor’s daughter, the heir of Victorious Light Ministries, the globe’s largest megachurch in Atlanta, Georgia.
Married for fourteen years, he knew the program; Connie was never going to change. But three months before her 40th birthday, she becomes entangled with a sexy, yet very dangerous man, who’s racy and sketchy influence seeps into every crevice of Connie’s being, taking her to heights of freedom, liberation and ecstasy she’s never experienced before in life. While it feels so good, Connie knows it’s wrong, but that doesn’t stop her or does it? Will Pastor Connie defend her salvation and fight for her marriage or will she risk everything her father built and squander her legacy and integrity?

Whew! The messiness in this story gave me whiplash! This was a wild ride with Pastor Connie, Reggie, Des & Chase! I enjoyed the drama that unfolded as these chapters continued. Loved the dual POVs from all 4 of the main characters, I felt it was necessary to see everyone’s thoughts in first person. This book was a good time & and an enjoyable read! Overall would recommend!
4.5⭐️ When I tell you this book is messy please believe me…it’s MESSYYYY! The mess started from the very beginning and took me on a wild ride throughout. I loved the multiple POVs and all the characters left me shaking my head. All that church drama made for a great read. Lol. This is definitely one that I highly recommend!
Thank you to the author and PrettyGirlsDoRead for the advanced copy 🤎
ARC REVIEW If Greenleaf had a baby with Tyler Perry’s Divorced Sistas, this book would be it. Messy, dramatic, chaotic—and absolutely entertaining! I devoured every page like it was the last slice of sweet potato pie at the family reunion.
From the jump, I wanted to feel bad for Connie. But babyyyy, the way the drama unfolded? She lost me. Every chapter revealed a little more and had me side-eyeing her harder than the last.
Now Reggie? Let’s talk about Reggie. A sorry excuse for a man. Point blank. Period. I kept hoping he’d redeem himself, but no—he just kept digging that hole deeper.
The real MVP here? Desiree. Flawed? Yes. But focused? Absolutely. She had one mission and one mission only: take care of her girls. She was the eye in the middle of the storm, and honestly, the only one I could root for without hesitation.
And Chase! He just wanted to provide for his family and have financial freedom. Having your ability to provide for your family will surely drive you to great lengths!
If you're into messy relationships, secret pasts, betrayal, and jaw-dropping twists, this book is your next guilty pleasure. It’s the kind of story that’ll have you yelling at the pages, texting your friends, and reading “just one more chapter” until 2 AM.
Final Verdict: Drama-packed and deliciously messy. Five stars for pure entertainment!
Thank you Pretty Girls Do Read & Penny Blacwrite for the ARC copy.
This book was definitely a messy good time! The way that all of the POV’s were needed to get the full scope of the drama. I don’t think I’ve yelled at a book as much as I yelled at this one because *sigh* if one character wasn’t stressing me out or pissing me off it was always another one. Literally everybody deserved what they got. EVERY SINGLE PERSON!
Chiiiiiiiilllllleeeeee!!! When I say this book was knee deep messy!! I’m talking can’t get the filth off bc everywhere you look it’s even more messy!! This thang HERE was a ride. This was my first read from the author and I will absolutely be returning for another dose. I enjoyed the flow of the story and how multiple POVs brought it all together. 4.5⭐️
Whew, This Book Was a Holy Mess… and I LOVED Every Minute of It.
Listen. I was not prepared for the unholy amount of chaos tucked between these church pews. I cracked this open thinking I was walking into Sunday service and ended up smack in the middle of a soap opera baptized in lies, lust, and generational dysfunction. Yeah. That’s this book & this review is my own messy little testimony!
Let’s get this out the way: Connie Victor—Pastor, First Lady, and Certified Menace—ma’am, what are we doing?! She’s judgmental, impulsive, and going through a full blown identity crisis masked as “self-discovery.” Sis woke up and chose violence... and adultery. Every time she popped off in that pulpit, I rolled my eyes like, you got some NERVE. But even though I hated half her choices, I couldn’t stop reading about her. She’s the definition of "not a role model, but definitely a main character." Got me wondering if stuff like this goes down in my community. *Pulls glasses up & squints*
Reggie? Whew… bless his little embarrassed heart. If “weak in the knees” was a person, it would be him. Just once I wanted him to stand on business, but alas-he just got stomped on instead. Connie ran him ragged and even Desiree hit him with verbal uppercuts like it was nothing. I almost felt bad… almost. In my head I kept thinking "You soft, you soooooft,so freaking soft!"
Desiree, though? Top tier. Did she make some terrible decisions? Absolutely. Was she the only one who seemed to move with any real loyalty? Also yes. She rode for her man and her girls even when they didn’t deserve it. I cheered, I cringed, I wanted better for her.
Now Chase… sigh. I get it, ego hits different when life humbles you, but this man needed a reality check and a W-2. You got kids, dawg. You can’t be out here playing tortured artist and expect applause.
I’m not gonna lie...the pacing in the first half had me wondering if we were just going to ride the petty train forever with no destination. But babyyyyy when that plot twist finally hit? I almost threw the kindle across the room. Didn’t see it coming. Mouth wide open. Drama DELIVERED.
Penny Blacwrite served betrayal, conspiracy, forbidden love, embezzlement, and the kind of backstabbing that would make Judas take notes. The multi POV layout gave it all the flavor, and each messy, grown, reckless character brought a different kind of chaos.
This book is not for the judgmental or faint of heart but if you like your drama seasoned and sanctified, go ahead and grab this. You’re in for a holy hot mess you won’t forget.
I know yall said Church drama was messy, but if its anything like THIS? I want no parts 🤣 When I say this book was MESSSY, it was insane lmao From the beginning, its giving Tyler Perry, its giving Greenleaf
I DONT LIKE CONNIE IDC IDC IDC and I will die on that hill! Her & Chase were my least favorite out of the cast. She’s entitled and having a midlife crisis because her dad died & Connie realized she hates her life….okay? Pivot like the rest of us. Not talk down and cheat on your HUSBAND. Like maam wasnt you raised in the church?? And Chase….babe grow theeeeee FUCK up. You have a whole ass family and you still wont get a regular job? TUH.
Desiree was 100% my favorite character here. She didn’t make the best choices, but she was the only loyal one. Everything she did was for her girls and her man, even though he didn’t reciprocate.
Oh Reggie…..STAND UPPP! Mans was weak in the knees the ENTIRE book 🤦🏽♀️ it started with Connie walking all over him, and then even Desiree was talking to him crazy. Sir, you are A MAN. SAY IT WITH YOUR CHEST!!
I enjoyed this book, it just took 70% of the book to get to the plot twist/main drama. I feel like it took me longer than usual to finish this cus I wasnt itching to find out what happened. HOWEVER, WHEN THAT PLOT TWISTED BABYYYY IT MF TWISTED! The ending was pretty entertaining.
Omfg 😳😲. I was not expecting this type of ending. I’m appalled.
As the chapters go by, so does the mess. This was messy, and for these people to be the ages that they were, they were childish and impulsive asf. They stressed me out with their bad decision-making.
Connie Victor, aka Pastor. I did not agree with some of her decisions and how she went about some things, but she was no punk. Don’t let the sermon and church clothes confuse you. She was really about that.
Reggie was just an embarrassment. At times, I felt bad for him, but then I’m like “Man, tf up and let your nuts hang” lol. He was just hardheaded in my opinion.
Chase. Chase. Chase. Not for nothing, I get his frustration. From having it to not, can put a lot on your ego as a man. But there’s always a way to go about things.
As a woman and a mom, I’m more so disappointed in Desiree the most. I just wanna 👊🏾.
Listen, I did not expect this to be that good. This was not my first rodeo with reading from Penny. You can always expect some mess and drama.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ – A wild ride of secrets, sermons, and scandal
Church Girls Love Thugs by Penny Blacwrite felt like watching an entire BET+ drama unfold in book form—with way better writing and way more chaos. I wasn’t ready for that opening, and I stayed unready the whole ride. 😂
Connie was such a layered character—flawed but grounded—and watching her try to hold it together as secrets unraveled was a lot. And then you have Reggie, Desiree, and Chase, who each brought their own brand of drama to the mix. Let’s just say nobody in this story is as innocent as they pretend to be, and everyone’s playing some kind of game.
I loved how Penny made these characters feel so real—I could picture every single one like they were cast in a movie. The writing had me side-eyeing characters, cracking up, and trying to figure out who was really for who.
I lowkey wanted the ending to go a different direction, but it still delivered and made me want to pick up more by this author. If you love messy women, church drama, and twists you don’t see coming? Go ahead and add this to your TBR.
You will finish this in one reading if you have the time. You can’t take your eyes off how juicy this story is. You get multiple POV’s and you want them all.
Spoilers after this . . . . . . . . . . .
The way I needed Reggie to step up and actually do something! Everytime he was mentioned I’m yelling get your women!!! I was disappointed by him. Then comes along Chase (which gave me an ick my kids name is that so he got an automatic name change), was I in the River in the River of denial too long too long absolutely. Because 1 + 1 equals 2 and he’s always gonna go back. Now did I see that ending how it ended… no.
I should have known from the jump that this was gonna be messy as hell when it opened with a bang! It was so juicy - full of drama.
I was rooting for everybody to win at one point because I was so stressed out. Pastor Connie wanted to be free to be herself, Reggie wanted to be seen and loved, while Desiree and Chase wanted financial freedom. But none of them thought of the consequences of their actions! I laughed, screamed and kicked my feet at the foolishness that commenced, very entertained the whole time I was reading it, trying to fight sleep to get to the end. This was definitely a good read for those who like messy drama and an ending that will leave your jaw sitting on your chest!
Thank you PGDR for th opportunity to read a free eARC in exchange for an honest review.
Whew!! This book had me on the edge of my seat!! It was so many twist and turns in this book!! Especially the last few chapters! Let me tell you every character in this book was something else!! It was times when I was on their side and other times when I wasn’t at all!! That pastor Connie is something else!! I didn’t really know what to expect from this book but I was throughly surprised and entertained.
I really enjoyed the multiple POVs. They were key to making this story whole. Getting into the mind of what each character was thinking and what each character motive was great!! It made you sympathlize with each character and look at them sideways. Y’all should for sure check this book out!!
Okay👀 miss Penny, come to the front pls!! How did your sweet brain think of this?!
1) thank you to PrettyGirlsdoRead for gifting me this book 2) you want a wild ride? This book is for you!
The plot was crazy. We’re talking about a Pastor that could be involved in some devious acts. * Growing up in a religious household, this book drove me back into its potential toxic culture.* I’m not mad at it tho. This book had me yelling a few times because Pastor Connie what were you thinking?!!
• this story is MESSSSY but all the more intriguing. Pastor Connie is in a not so great marriage that depends solely on her & her family’s fortune. • I, thoroughly, enjoyed having multiple POV’s. I feel like it truly captured the essence of messiness. • I truly didn’t see that ending coming.
Whew! This book was everything and then some. Pastor Connie is not your average first lady—she was really about that life, both in and out of the pulpit. Her strength, secrets, and boldness had me hooked from the jump. And then there’s Reggie… whew, Reggie! He came with his own agenda, and after being betrayed by a thug, he decided he wanted his own slice of the chaos too.
The story was a wild ride full of jaw-dropping plot twists that kept me turning the pages. Just when I thought I had things figured out—BOOM—the ending hit hard and left me speechless. Penny Blacwrite really did her thing with this one. If you like messy drama, loyalty tested, and church folks with a street side, you need to read this!
General thoughts: New to me author, wasn't expecting this rollercoaster of a story. Very engaging and intriguing Every character had their own issues and needs but no one thought about the consequences. This isn't a Christian novel rather an urban romance. Would definitely recommend to the drama lovers!
Book overview: Pastor Connie is in a shambolic marriage that depends solely on her & her family's fortune. Pastor Connie wanted to be herself, Reggie wanted to be seen and loved, while Desiree and Chase wanted financial freedom.
I didn't expect this story to be this good, it will have you on edge. If you love drama and messiness then you would love this book. The ending was so unexpected.
Thank you to Pretty Girls Read for the ARC. This book started off with a bang and as the chapters built onto each other I was locked in. I usually can't manage more than two POVs but with the labeling and story development I was able to keep up. The title and story weren't what I expecting but I also went into blind. I was prepared for the typical church banter and fighting but certainly wasn't the case for this book. This ending was not my bingo card at all. Thanks to the author for proving closure in the epilogue to let us know how the FMC truly made out in the end.
Wow 🤯 This book literally had so many plot twists and turns!!! Sooo first thing is first! Just because they go to church doesn’t mean they always have the best intentions! Also no one is without sin! Author Penny Blacwrite takes us down a rollercoaster of greed, lust, envy, infidelity and MORE!!! Even when you think that the story will move in a certain direction it doesn’t! The story is told from several characters point of view! Just know that what’s done in the dark will come to light! There’s no space for secrets so buckle and prepare to take a ride because Church Girls Love Thugs!!!!
Thank you to the author and PrettyGirlsDoRead for an advanced reader copy!
I loved this book!! The book has forbidden romance, conspiracy, and a revenge arch. The book is very thrilling it will have you on the edge of your seat. The plot twists had my mouth agape because I wasn't expecting them. I would definitely recommend this book if you are in a reading slump or need a palette cleanser after an emotionally heavy book. Penny Blacwrite did a phenomenal job writing this book. Read it because it is such a fun thrilling ride!!
This book was a Holy mess. Money really is the root of all evil. The betrayal from both couples was entertaining. Connie was a freak and Reggie was not satisfying her need physically, mentally, or emotionally. She met Chase and became a new woman. This story shows different types of betrayal, embezzlement , backstabbing and also how greed can take over. I loved everyone’s point of view to bring the story full circle.
4.5 WHEEEWWW THE MESSSINESS!! the drama that goes on in this book will have you sitting on the edge of your seat. The author did a great job using the multiple povs so that you could see the scope of the mess from all angles. The book was a little slow to progress to the main drama but when it did …. THAT PLOT… SHE TWISTED!!
Thank you to PGDR and Penny for the copy of this book! All thoughts and opinions are my own💜💜
Not a romance novel. Does not contain a HEA with any of the male characters. The reviews did not hint at the ending. I almost stopped reading at 20 percent because I didn’t like where it was headed. The entanglement with pastor, Desiree, Reggie and chase was…flat. It was never explained how or why the pastor was forced to marry Reggie, or her father’s street connections. The pastor sitting in prison for 16 years was another let down.

This book was totally not what I had in mind when I saw the cover! I was recommended this book by someone in my book club and all i can say is that I was GAGGED. I think I bit off every finger nail I had while reading this!! I didn’t know whose side I was on for most of this story! The multiple POVs and the Suspense from one chapter to the next kept me hooked throughout the story! If there were 10 stars Ms. Penny Blacwrite could have them all!
This book was crazy in the best way. If you love a messy, urban romance this is definitely the perfect read. Every time I thought I knew where the story was going, I was thrown for a loop. I never would have guessed the way the story finally unfolded. My jaw was on the floor! This is a story of infidelity, greed, secrets, and mayhem. I really enjoyed this one.
Church Girls Love Thugs gave faith, fire, and forbidden love!
Connie’s struggle between the pulpit and the streets was raw, emotional, and oh-so-real. Penny Blacwrite delivered messy characters, bold choices, and a story that had me hooked! If you love a good girl meets bad boy story with depth, grab this one
Looking for a downright messy church story?? Look no further! This book was MESSY from the beginning to the end and I loved every second of it!! I loved the different POVs from the characters. It helped see how they fit in to the story. I know some churches have drama but baby this took the cake! A 5 star read for me!
This was so good I couldn’t put it down the thing that happen in this book was mind blowing I felt bad for Reggie thought it was not his fault that his wife didn’t really love him. Then she sleeping with the man that was in a program her father started was mine blowing 10/10
I could tell by the title I wasn’t going to enjoy this but the author actually has decent penmanship. I literally only read because I got out voted in my book club but I’m interested in seeing whether or not the author has something better. The plot was typical and it was easy to guess what was coming next. Oftentimes, things were repeated over and over. Funny moments but very predictable
My my my, I don’t want to spoil the book for anyone, but the twists and turns in this book is crazy!!! Definitely worth reading and brace yourself for the ride!
Oh, Penny, this ish was straight fire. I didn't even want it to end. I knew some bodies would drop, but at the end, who dropped and who was left standing got me clutching my pearls.
Big church, small world! This book was a messy good time. The romance, the plots, sneaking around. Each chapter gives you something to look forward to in the next.
