Rate this book
A couple of crazed chickens, a mischievous dog, and a dead body. What more could a covert operations agent ask for when she returns to her hometown after an unexpected leave from the army?

Recently recovering from an injury sustained during her last high-stakes mission, Sydney is desperate for peace. Yet tranquility evades her as she’s dragged into investigating a mysterious death at a local senior living home, all while maintaining the guise of a nurse.

To make matters worse she must deal with an aggravating local detective with a sexy smile. But between Blake trying to keep her out of the investigation and bizarre happenings at the morgue, Sydney quickly finds she has her hands full.

Armed with her reliable firearm and combat boots, Sydney once again teams up with her pyromaniac aunt. Can Sydney bring another killer to justice before her true identity is revealed or worse, before another innocent victim ends up on the autopsy table?

Sydney goes undercover as a nurse, slipping into a senior living home where an unsettling pattern has emerged, residents are inexplicably dying, leaving behind a cloud of mystery.
Amid her investigation, a skeleton is unearthed in Gina's backyard. As if the weight of these two cases isn’t enough, the sheriff has returned to town, and his instant animosity towards Sydney makes it clear that he views her with suspicion.
As if navigating the treacherous waters of her investigation wasn't challenging enough, Sydney finds herself constantly crossing paths with the handsome detective Blake.
Sydney and Gina must unravel both mysteries while sidestepping the sheriff and Blake. The stakes have never been higher, and the clock is ticking.

I'm rounding up from 3.5 . The book is very easy to read, and it reminds me of something like Mary Higgins Clark books: a contained story within the one book, but if you read the other books, you'll recognize familiar faces. It feels like a "beach book" if I were someone who liked the beach. I would be curious to pick up the 1st book in the series since I did not realize it was the 2nd.
