The Grumpy Firefighter: A Next-Door Neighbor Small Town Romance by Echo James is a sweet second chance for single mother Harper Greene and a first chance for firefighter Cooper Hayes. Neither character is looking for love—Harper because her first marriage ended in a failed dream, and Cooper because he thinks he wants peace and quiet in his life, not the chaos of a ready-made family. With the slow build of an abiding love, the strong emotion catches both unaware. Harper does not trust the feelings that Cooper instills in her, and Cooper realizes that she is his home, everything he has never wanted. The story is filled with passion, friendships, and small-town life. It’s interesting how these two strong characters accept each other for who they are—no pushing, no judgment, no advice. Their relationship could even be a teachable moment for many who are considering a partner. This is a first-time author for me, and I will read more of her work.

My favorite part is Cooper mourning the beheading of his strawberries.

I found myself smiling at times at the way Cooper and Harper interacted with each other. When Cooper calls Harpers two rambunctious boys feral I laughed out loud. This romance book is sooooo amazing to read due to it being ROMANTIC, HILARIOUS, and has some tension and chemistry between Cooper and Harper that you can't put this book down. I do suggest a few Kleenexes because when Chase reads who his hero is my eyes teared up and my heart swelled with happiness. This romance read is AWESOME.

Neighborly Grump

He just wants peace, quiet and to work in his garden. She is pure chaos with two rowdy boys and a hellhound. Wonderful town, endearing people and a great book. It touched my heart and I’m still smiling.
