Belle Lockhart is on the run from a biker after seducing him and stealing his cash. She hides in what appears to be an abandoned house in the woods. When the occupant of the house shows himself, he claims he’s a beast and that Belle should stay far away from him.
But Belle doesn’t always do what people tell her to.
between 3 1/2 or 4 stars, I had some issues with the first book in this series but The idea of who the hero was in this book(the "villain" from book 1) had me interested. Right away I liked this book a lot more, though I have to admit Ms. Levin does a great job in both books in this series drawing you into the male character who isn't the hero and she has both times made me really like him. This books writing style flowed so well and though I didn't like some of the things the heroine did I couldn't help but like her and if I'm honest I liked all three of the main characters in this book so I am especially happy that book three will be about the biker in this book who was taken advantage of.
In book one we met The Brute and I liked him I felt bad for him, yes what he did was wrong but so much of the book was spent with him that I connected with him. Now in book two we see what his life has become when The heroine Belle comes crashing into his life with no fear and bosses him around.
Sleeping with men to take their cash Belle picks someone who isn't her usual con, a biker. When she tries to leave with his cash and his bike(to borrow) he wakes and chases her. Running Belle finds an abandoned house but she knows right away it's not what it seems. With no other place to hide Belle stays the night. the next morning Nick the owner of the house shows himself and demands she leaves. After all Nick has done for a woman he thought he loved he has secluded himself to keep others safe believing he is a danger.
But Belle isn't scared at all and refuses to leave and quickly breaks down all of Nicks walls while hers quickly begin to come down as well. But the Biker and his friends want his money back and for Belle to pay, now she and Nick will have to find a way to make it out alive.
I really liked this one. The heroine was strong and did everything she had to to protect the one person she loved even if it was something most wouldn't do she was also a lot more likable to me than the heroine from book one. The hero Nick or the Brute from book one was a great hero we see a whole different side to him that we didn't in book one and it was easy to see why I liked him right away. Another thing I liked in this book was that we didn't spend so much time with the man left behind(the biker) that I didn't wish he was the hero though I want him to be a hero in another book just not with this heroine. This series is very different from most I read and in this case it paid off.
Belle Lockhart is turning tricks and robbing her dates. Colt is a biker and she ties him up to a wall lamp when he wakes up before she escapes. She has sex with him again, and takes his 3 grand, his jacket and his keys to his motorcycle. Belle promises Colt she will leave it where he can find it. Belle puts the money she took into a pre-addressed and stamped envelope, but pulls two hundred out, so she can get the bus home. Colt is after her faster than she thought, but she was smart enough to turn a GPS tracking app on his phone so she knew when he left the seedy motel. She was going to leave his bike at the mailbox, and go home to her son. Things don't work out as planned and she ends up hiding in what appears to be an abandoned house. After a nap she makes plenty of noise so the person she knows is upstairs will come down. Nick is the owner and he comes down and tells her to leave that he is a beast and it isn't safe for her. Belle takes her chances with Nick over her lack of chances with the bikers, but still gets shot by one of them when she tries to sneak away. Nick saves her life and dresses her shoulder wound. She kisses him and he carries her to his bed and handcuffs her good hand to the bed, ravishing her with kisses until she begs for release. He makes love to her, and she feels different than she ever felt just having sex. Nick keeps her cuffed and opens his safe and pulls out 3 grand to pay back Colt, belle sees the combo and memorizes it. Nick didn't lock the door and she hears someone in the hall, in comes Colt. He wants the combo to the safe or he will hurt her, she says in trade she wants the cuff keys. She gets dressed and loads the gun in the safe and robs the money back from Colt. she pays him some more and wants to know where Nick is. She has to look for him and finds him shot through the leg. They are in the woods, he is so heavy and her arm is aching, will she be able to save his life? will she take all his money and run? Will the bikers come back and kill them both for the 34 grand she has in her backpack?
