Retrieve the Relic

Rate this book
You are Tilda Snubbs, and this was supposed to be a simple treasure hunt.

Find the relic. Get your reward. Maybe flirt with your hot elven guide along the way. Easy.

Except the forest is cursed, your animal companion is the only one keeping you grounded, and the closer you get to the prize, the more it starts feeling like you’re what’s being hunted. Your guide is asking too many questions. I think the relic wants you too.

Sure, you could walk away. But you’ve come this far. And your prize at the heart of a ruin is calling.

This isn’t just a treasure hunt anymore. But if you’re lucky, it might just be love that leads you to something priceless.

Retrieve the Relic is a cozy sapphic LitRPG novella within the Love & Loot universe about cursed treasure, dangerous longing, and the slow, terrifying magic of letting yourself be loved. With turn-based combat, flirty banter, and one very emotionally supportive pig, it’s perfect for fans of Baldur’s Gate 3 romances, Legends & Lattes, She-Ra, and queer fantasy. In this adventure, the loot talks, the pigs tank, and the love is optional… but likely.

A narrator who seems to enjoy the task a little too much and probably has an agenda of their own? Check. Attributes that have far too many opinions of their own, and are more than happy to voice them? Check. Plenty of sass, wit, highly humorous dialogue and a multitude of great lines? Check. And a wacky and amusing cast and storyline that doesn't go where you'd expect? Well, of course.

If you've read the previous two entries to the series (which you should, both because they're a lot of fun, and because this book takes place after them and also references them), then you'll know what you're in for. And if not? Well, it's all of the above, told in a rather unique second person style. It's a fun witty ride that builds upon what's come before, with even more romance, healing for our adorable mc, and quite a few twists along the way. And absolutely wonderful storytelling, the narrator adding energy to every single line.

I think that this one is definitely my favourite to date, and I'm curious to see where else Jaz goes with the series. An easy recommendation.

Once again, Jaz has written a lovely novella that is both quirky, wholesome and humorous.

As a dnd player, I love the nod to dnd; there is a background narrator (almost like the DM) alongside the two main characters (and pig!) who help move the story along in a fast paced, comedic way. Featuring a Druid and her pig, and a rogue, who are on an adventure to retrieve a relic, it has all the classics of a traditional fantasy journey. Add in the cute banter, sweet romantic sapphic moments, and you have the perfect story that can be read in one or two sittings.

Overall, the story is sweet, with the characters dealing with previous trauma that affects their ability to love, ending with a happy ever after.

Please note: you don’t have to understand dnd to enjoy this book, it’s just quite nostalgic and whimsical for dnd players who will recognise certain aspects.

Thank you for arc read, I’ve been a big fan of Jaz’s works so was super excited to read this one

Retrieve the Relic I absolutely adored the most out of the Love & Loot series. This one pulled at my heartstrings a bit, but it's just as cozy, sapphic, and, well, there's a pig (enough said).

**ARC READ**

Starring in the role as Tilda Snubbs, readers are taken on an adventure full of magic and loveable characters in order to retrieve an ancient relic. As you get closer to the relic, you worry that your plans will be foiled, and by the end, will you truly feel worthy?

This year has been full of fun reads. This one had me hooked immediately after the first paragraph. I wasnt sure how I would feel about an RPG style book and I loved it - I'm glad this one in particular was my first! It very much has a DnD-esque feel to it. Im also a sucker for a sapphic romance that displays clever and occasionally clumsy flirting (the best type truly).

I can’t say much about this one without spoiling it, I will say this author has a a very unique writing style in my opinion, kind of like a fairytale being told mixed with something else.

It was a nice book, very short but I like that for this type of book, even though it was short it didn’t feel rushed or that too much was pushed into a short amount of time.

Overall an enjoyable cosy sapphic read

*full disclosure I was given this book by the author, Jaz Pate, in exchange for an honest review*

*ARC Review*

This is such a unique book style for me. It felt like I really was in a DnD story and I loved the little charisma and intelligence checks throughout the book. It felt like a story and a game at the same time!

As for the story itself, it was perfectly short and meaningful. The ending had a little twist that kept me entertained and the characters were very lovable from the first moment.

Don't want to say more because I genuinely think you should read it if you love DnD and fantasy and don't want to spoil. 5 stars!

One fact about me is that I'm a huge nerd, so I don't know why it took me so long to pick up a LitRPG book but I am so glad that this was my first foray. Something about the present tense and Jaz's writing paired together made this way more swoony romantic feeling to me than I think it was even trying to be but I was so into it. I think if you also are a DND fan you'll love this more, but it's not necessary for enjoyment. A cozy DND inspired sweet sapphic tale.

Nice story

Again, Jaz Pate wrote a very good novella. It was so fun to read it with its witty banter and entertaining narration. The quest itself was different from the previous ones described in two other stories in the series. It seemed even more interesting and meaningful. I think this one was the best of those three novellas.

This was my first litRPG, and I found it an easy read. Tilly is the main MC, but Darlene was definitely my favorite—her attitude came through every scene, even when defending Tilly. If you haven’t tried a litRPG yet, this one’s worth a shot!

Probably my favorite of the Love & Loot Series. Cozy LitRPG as usual. But the animal companion cute stubborn piggy Darlene and a Druid demon? With a love wins message? Couldn’t wait to keep reading. Such a fun read!
